  4. Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale's Shaheedi Samagam is most likely to be held at mehta Chowk as talks have progressed since it last being mentioned. Nevertheless, Sant Ji Shaheedi Samagam will be held in the UK if Mehta Chowk cannot be finalised as an alternative option. Only with wahegurus will shall the Samagam not take place for there is no man made reason on this planet that could stop Sikhs from showering their tributes upon such a Gursikh as Shaheed Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale. 7. Sikh TV has offered full exposure to Mata Sahib Kaur Academy's financial situation and even put the account details on their scroll so sangat can donate directly to the academy. What about Sikh Channel and Sangat TV? Which Channel really acts on issues that affect the Sikh Community, especially the Youth? - Lets not kid ourselves!
  8. WOULD THE POLICE AND INDIAN MEDIA HAVE STILL BEEN AS QUITE IF HE WASN'T A SIKH?! The aggrieved parents of 5 year old child Khushpreet Singh alias Khushi, who was killed by his kidnappers, have relented and agreed to cremate the child. Khushi is likely to be creamated today at Burail. His post post-mortem has been conducted at Sector 16 Government Hospital and the body is about to arrive at his house in Burail. This is the place where his body had been lying, since it was found on Wednesday. Seeing the anger of the relatives and sympathizers the Police had imposed section 144 within a radius of 100 meters of the Hospital. The family has been assured of justice by the Inspector General of Police, who talked to the parents in his Office for about an hour. The Inspector General is understood to have assured the family that the department will pay the amount of Rs. 4 lacs, which the family had paid to the kidnappers to get the child free. Lakhbir Singh and Kulwinder Kaur, the unfortunate parents of the child had been demanding action against cops for their negligence and insensitivity in handling this very important and sensitive case of kidnapping. They were seeking registration of a case of murder against the officials. The family gave-in because besides police, it has been advised even by near and dear ones that cremation of the child should not be delayed any further. The residents of Burail, where the family lives, are in a state of utter shock and the markets in Burail remained closed even today. Police, meanwhile remained on a strict vigil, because of the anger that prevailed against it, in the local masses. It may be recalled that body of Khushi, who was kidnapped on 21st of December, was found at Mohali Border near a garbage heap. The news of child having been killed had sent shock waves and people had come out in streets to protest against the police. It’s however, still a question why the Senior Police officials are hesitant to take action against the police officers who didn’t come up to the situation and have been proved negligent in handling such a case. The point, that disturbs one in this case is, that the kidnappers came and collected Rs. 4 lacs as ransom in presence of almost 20 police personnel but the police were unable to apprehend the culprits and remained clueless till the body was found on Wednesday. The killing of Khushi, even after taking ransom, is an indication that the child might have known the kidnappers well and subsequently had to pay the price of this, with his life. PLEASE MAKE STICKY
  9. Please do attend the Parliament programme on Thursday 27th January from 2pm till 4pm to attend our next event and meet members of the Student Federation. The National Sikh Council has delayed its Parliamentary lobby till late February to support this Student Initiative. We hope you can do the same.
  10. Over 100 MP's have been sent letters by Sikhs and non-sikhs alike requesting them to attend at this National Lobby on Wednesday 27th January 2011. Make the support continue!
  11. All factions of the Sikh Students Federation will support the Punjab Bandh. Confirmed by SSF (Gazi) and SSF (Mehta) Sikh Youth of Punjab will also be supporting the Bandh call by Khalsa Action Committee. Sikh TV will also be covering the Bandh call.
  12. British Sikh Student Federation would like to invite you to this National Lobby on Genocide and Human Rights in South Asia at the British Parliament for Thursday 27th January 2011 between 2pm to 4pm. The Lobby is being supported by Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front UK, World Nepalese Student Organisation UK, British Tamil Forum, and Naga’s based in the UK, who are being supported by the wider Christian Community. The British Sikh Student Federation calls on the Sikh Federation UK, British Sikh Council, Council of Khalistan (UK), Dal Khalsa (UK), SAD (Amritsar UK) and SAD (Panch Pardhani UK) to extend their support to this Lobby. It will be interesting to see who actually comes forward to support this Student Initiative! It is again for the First time that such an initiative has been taken by the British Sikh Student Federation where a number of different communities have been invited to jointly highlight the atrocities that are being committed upon Minority communities in South Asia. Issues that will be raised at the lobby are as follows – · Demand a more stringent Deportation policy towards South Asia. · Highlight violent oppression against Minorities by the Indian Establishment. · Highlight the abuse of Draconian Laws to suppress the Peaceful Voice of Minorities. · Expose means used to Defame and discredit Genuine Autonomous and Freedom movements. · Highlight the allegations and evidence against Politicians who are accused of having the blood of Innocent people “on their hands” and seek for a ban on such people from visiting or landing in the UK. We would like to give a special thanks to MP Adam Holloway of Gravesham (Conservative) who booked the meeting room and approved the lobby for us. Below is a template letter which has been organised for you to send direct to your Member of Parliament. Find your MP by going to http://www.writetothem.com/ Please insert the name of your MP at the top of the letter and your Full name and Full address at the bottom of the Letter before sending it to your MP. Also, please reply back to info@britishsikhstudentfederation.com upon sending this letter to your respective MP so that we can keep a record of which MP’s have been lobbied to and which MP’s still have not been informed about the lobby by their Constituents. Dear RT Hon' MP [Name] As your constituent I would like to request for your support and attendance at this South Asia Genocide & Human Rights Lobby in Parliament on Thursday 27th January 2011 between 2pm and 4pm. People from a number of different communities will be attending including - Sikhs, Tamils, Kashmiri’s, Nepalese, Assamee’s, Christians as well as Various Human Rights Organisations. Since 1947, when India was divided and gained Independence the entire region has been in strife following dissatisfied minorities whose voice has been suppressed for decades leading to bloodshed, mass killings and Civil war like situations being created throughout the region. A number of British nationals have been arrested and harassed in South Asia for supporting minority rights campaigns abroad as well as having their family members tortured and in many instances, killed! Furthermore, when seeking to peacefully demonstration their support for a cause, most Organisations and Institutions have been falsely defamed under the pretext of being extremist or militant, allegations which are based upon false evidence, confessional statements under blackmail or torture and Smear Campaigns though State directed Media directly leading to the voices of the minorities by drained and supressed! On the day of the lobby we would like to discuss the following issues - · Demand a more stringent Deportation policy towards South Asia. · Highlight violent oppression against Minorities by the Indian Establishment. · Highlight the abuse of Draconian Laws to suppress the Peaceful Voice of Minorities. · Expose means used to Defame and discredit Genuine Autonomous and Freedom movements. · Highlight the allegations and evidence against Politicians who are accused of have the blood of Innocent people “on their hands” and seek for a ban on such people from visiting or landing in the UK. The event is likely to attract over 300 people who would have lobbied their respective MP's in advance notifying them of their attendance and invitation request furthermore I hope that you could also join us on this very important and sensitive day. I look forward to receiving your reply. Regards (Your full name & Full address) Lobby guidelines.docx
  13. LOL LOL AND SUPER LOL 1. Talwinder Singh was the one that brought Sant Bhindranwale and Bibi Amarjit Kaur back to talking terms after Bibi ji accused of Sant ji of backing out of the Nirankari Massacre March in which 13 Sikhs were killed. 2. Talwinder Singh worked in a saw mill in British Columbia were he earned a over $25 per hour as that was the going rate then for the 12 hour shifts they use to work there. There are a number of people today who will testify to Talwinder Singh's conmittment to his work and responsibilties. 3. Talwinder Singh went on strike in a German Jail to protest against for the basic Human Rights for Prisioners and demanded Sarbloh Bebik be allowed to be practiced by Amritdhari Singhs in Jail. 4. Talwinder Singh was a founding member of the Babbar Khalsa International. 5. So if someone is falsely accused of something you run away and dont defend them? Do come to the Akhand Patth Sahib today or tomorrow if you wish to discuss further.
  14. Coach from Slough which was bound for the Youth Conference has been diverted to the Grays Demonstration. 30 to 40 in number
  15. A Sikh Student who fled persecution from Afghanistan has been deported back to Afghanistan. It comes as a great shock that this issue was not highlighted or taken up by any Sikh Organisation. The British Sikh Student Federation also feels that it let Mit Singh down by not coming to his aid. A campaign has now been launched to bring Mit Singh back to the UK. This seems to be a difficult task but one in which we must keep hope. We must look at ways in which Sikh media can pickup these issues quickly by becoming more accessible and aware of such events. See below for a news article on the issue - Source: http://www.westendextra.com/news/2010/oct/call-halt-sikh-student-mit-singh-chopra%E2%80%99s-deportation Teenager at Westminster college fears a ‘death sentence’ on his return to Afghanistan Published: 1 October, 2010 by JOSH LOEB A TEENAGE Westminster college student who fled violent persecution by the Taliban fears he faces “a death sentence” if he is deported to Afghanistan. Mit Singh Chopra, 19, a student from Westminster Kingsway College, came to the UK after being kidnapped and beaten up in Afghanistan because of his Sikh religion. He said he was taken by extremists from a village in that country and held for eight days and they tried to force him to convert to Islam but he managed to escape. Sikhs, along with other minority religions, were once able to live relatively peacefully in Afghanistan but over the past three decades there have been reports of violence against them. Mr Chopra is currently being held at the immigration removal centre in Harmondsworth, near Heathrow , and is expected to be deported in five days’ time. Pupils and teachers at WKC – which has bases in Victoria, Regent’s Park, Soho and St James’s Park – have mounted an urgent campaign that has included a protest outside the Home Office in Marsham Street near Victoria on Wednesday, attended by about 40 people. On Tuesday Mr Chopra, who has been praised by his teachers as “gentle, polite and caring”, said he would rather die than be sent back to Afghanistan. Speaking from his room in Harmondsworth, he said: “Afghanistan is not safe for Sikh people. Why does immigration not understand? Afghanistan is not a Sikh country it is a Muslim country. I came here to save my life. If immigration does not let me stay, just kill me and give my body to my family.” The UK Border Agency said Sikhs, including Mr Chopra, who came to the UK in December 2007, face no danger in Afghanistan, though it acknowledges reports of discrimination. In an emotional phone conversation with the West End Extra on Tuesday, Mr Chopra, who suffers from post traumatic stress disorder, said the detention centre was “like a prison”. He said: “It’s too much for me. I just sit in my room and cry.” Despite arriving in the UK almost three years ago, Mr Chopra’s asylum claim was not heard until last year, when a tribunal judge ruled that he was ineligible to remain in the country. An appeal against this decision was unsuccessful. Two of Mr Chopra’s brothers are British citizens and a third has indefinite leave to remain in the UK. The whereabouts of his parents is unknown but he has no known family left in Afghanistan. WKC access support officer Karen Doyle said Mr Chopra, a student of English, was “the nicest person you could imagine meeting”. A spokeswoman for the college said: “We recognise that a lot of our students feel strongly about this case and that they want to support one of their fellow students. Unfortunately, it would be inappropriate for the college to get involved directly. “However, Mit Singh Chopra was a good student with us last year and we are extremely sorry that his studies have been interrupted in this way.” A UK Border Agency spokesman said: “In this case both the UK Border Agency and the courts have found the applicant is not in need of protection.” For more details visit www.movementforjustice.org.uk
  16. Jathedar Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara’s death sentence has been communed to “life imprisonment” which has come as a sense of relief but also grief as Bhai Hawara must now remain in prison for the rest of his life on no declared grounds. Bhai Hawara has been in prison for over 13 years now and the charge that was put up against him only served a maximum of 10 years in Prison but he has out served his term. It is a matter of principal and Human right that a prisoner be released upon serving his sentence but the Indian establishment has neither as the world is slowly but steadily coming to know. No matter what the future may hold we should all stand united in our right to defend ourselves and our Nation at by any means necessary, especially when the rest of the world turns a blind eye to the gross Human rights violations being committed upon a Minority by its own Government. Jathedar Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara Zindabad!
  17. Link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8546661.stm Following concrete conformation that Caste based discrimination is now officially illegal in the UK. The British Sikh Student Federation would like to congratulate the National Secular Society on this endeavour. For far too long Sikh Gurdwaras have been “held to ransom” by bigots who have been spread the germs and poison of Castism into the innocent minds of the British Sikh Youth. Sikh Youth in the UK have always claimed ignorance but this can no longer be tolerated. Now that we even have the “law of the land” on our side, we call on Sikh Students to take the initiative to go to all Gurdwaras in their local areas and become members. In the event that they have been refused membership because of their Caste, please inform the British Sikh Student Federation at – Info@britishsikhstudentfederation.com Full legal means will be exercised to defend the rights of Sikhs in our places of worship and the British Sikh Student Federation pledges to rid this problem from Sikh Gurdwaras by naming any and all Gurdwaras who violate this law.
  18. JUST CONFIRMED - SIKH TV will be present at the protest to cover the protest and question the gurdwara committee. Members of the Federation will be present in assistance of the SIKH TV team.
  19. The programme cannot be rescheduled as there is an Akhand patth Sahib to start on Thursday, but members in the East London and Kent branches have been instructed to attend at Grays and only attend at the Conference once the Grays issue has been dealt with.
  20. “The British Sikh Student Federation expresses its disappointment and condemnation of the proposed cap on student visas by the Immigration Minister Damien Green. Kirat Raj Singh, General Secretary of BSSF said: “International students bring in money, innovation and good diplomatic connections, three things the UK needs right now. International students are an opportunity. They will help, not hinder, the UK’s economic recovery. We call on Damien Green, Immigration Minister to withdraw its proposal on the cap which will inevitably harm the British economy aswell the international reputation of British Universities.” The British Sikh Student Federation extends its full support to the National Union of Students campaign against the proposed cap on student visa’s and is committed to the needs of International students ensuring their voices are heard and our concerns are recognised. British Sikh Student Federation
  21. British Sikh Student Federation would like to appeal to all Sikh Students studying at Universities, Colleges and other NUS affiliated Educational Institues accross the country to come out on the 10th November 2010 at Downing Street, London and show your support for maintaining optimum levels of State funding for the Education sector. Whilst we recognise that cuts have to be made, scaling back on the Education Sector will only weaken our Economic situation as less funding will directly affect the number of Students with qualifications which are vital to Students finding work. Furthermore, we condemn any attempts to cap the number of Students that come to Study in the UK from abroad, as this has a direct negative effect on our economy as overseas students provide a large income for the county's Housing sector and this will definitely affect Sikh Students that come to study in their thousands from around the world, espically Punjab. National Union of Students appeal – "Join us as we march on the streets of central London to fight against the looming, savage education cuts. NUS and UCU are jointly organising a national demonstration – 'Fund Our Future: Stop Education Cuts' – to take place on Wednesday 10 November 2010." Please go to this link to download flyers, leaflets and other promotional materials to display at your Sikh Societies and Student Unions. http://www.demo2010....omote-the-demo/ Arrangement for Transport including Coaches and Minibus' are being arranged and if your Sikh Society or Student Union requires Transport then do contact us at – Info@britishsikhstudentfederation.com http://britishsikhst...x/?page_id=1663
  22. Now that the negative comments are out of the way here are a few positives to take from the demonstration. Factfile - - Kamal Nath was not able to hold the CII meeting at the scheduled event as he had planned. - CII meeting was forced to be cancelled at the Crown Plaza hotel and relocated. - Public and hotel stayers appeared to be very sympathic towards our demonstartion upon enquiry and supported the protest. - No Violence occurred and the demo passed peacefully. - We hope that the organisers of such events appreciate the reasons behind our demonstration and reffrain from inviting such mass murders in future. - The inital aims of raising awareness of the event & subsequent protest as well as aiming to peacefully disrupt the CII meeting were achieved successfully.
  23. There was a very poor turnout as feared. About 50 people turned out in the end. But it was only the usual expected face with the exception of a few who took time off work whilst in London and a Mother & Son duo from Just north of London. It is understandable that Universities have just reopened and getting away can be difficult at such short notice, but a few Students did attend at the expense of Uni Lectures, so what excuse for others? Transport was another big problem logistically, which needs to be addressed and many willing people would have attended if transport was avalible. Still we were successful in some way as the meeting had to be rescheduled/relocated as previously posted.
