  1. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh, Thanks for your suggestions. Hanji they are already memorising Sr Japji Sahib. Wrt "sakhian and history of sikhs would be a good way to start..." - Where would start? Would you cover the whole life of Guru Nanak Dev Ji including the reasons why maharaj manifest physically? Why this is the tisarpanth? What the social/religious circumstances were at the time? And then progress through Maharaj's interactions/parchar and ucharan of Dhur ki bani? The main failings at sikhi classes when I would used to attend were: 1. Too much emphasis on Sakhian 2. No exploration of morals/how to relate history to your own life 3. No discussion - interaction 4. Difficult to ask questions/share your own opinions in a large group 5. No real structure - very ad hoc and intermittent. No syllabus or spiral ladder curriculum. 6. Teacher was frequently unprepared and didn't really know what they were 'teaching' all that well. 7. No real effort to teach sikh philosophy and theology at a basic level to children. No real understanding of why we do abhiyaas/nitnem/bani. 8. No explanation of why we do what we do at the gurudwara sahib - what is so special about langar, degh, gutka/pothi sahib's, Nishan Sahib, seva, Panj Pyaare, Amrit. 9. Did not encourage children to develop debating skills, leadership skills, problem based learning. 10. No real homework or encouragement to research topics and come back to present to the class. 11. No activities to engage in as a group. Very one dimensional method of teaching/learning I.e lecture based. 12. Not provided with other resources such as books, interactive software, sikhitithemax etc I don't want the children to come in 10 years time and list the same failings so would appreciate the sangat's input on how we can address these. 2. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh, Thank you for your response. I completely agree with you. No doubt when you went to school/college/university and the teacher/lecturer/dean began to speak or ask for feedback you said, "bas pyar paida karo." We need to bring structure to anything we do. What's more is we need to have overall aims and objectives which are clearly defined otherwise how on earth will we know where we stand in 5 years time? How can we possibly gauge our progress? How will we know if we have reached our end goal? How can we grow and evolve? How will we have any accountability? We need to have a drastic change in our mentality. And this needs to occur first in our religious institutions/schools and homes and then elsewhere. When we go to work we are very professional and forward thinking and have all sorts of ideas but when it comes to things that really matter - our future generation - then we are happy to sit back and say chadoo yaar. 3. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Dib has been derived from Sanskrit word – Divya - and it means divine, secret, occult etc. Drishtee means nazar, eye, seeing power etc. Dib Drisht means powered eye or divine eye. In Mahabharata, Sanjaya is said to have Divya Drishtee and he was able to see the events of battle of Mahabharata from many miles and narrate them to Dhritraashter – father of the Kaurav brothers. It is a commonly used word in the Hindu Granths. In Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, this word has been used few times. It means to have divine eye. In Sri Anand Sahib, Sri Guru Amardaas Ji Maharaj has written as follows: KAHO NANAK, IH NETR ANDH SE, SATGUR MILIAI, DIB DRISHT HOYEE (Sri Guru Ji by using the stamp of “Nanak” says that my eyes before meeting Satguru were blind and after meeting Satguru, I have got Dib Drishtee). One with Dib Drishtee can see the unseen. One with Dib Drishtee can see the events that are not visible to normal person. 4. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh, Chardeekala Veerji. Hopefully the social media Singhs and Kaurs can share the link to as many as possible. Maharaj Kirpa Karo. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh
  5. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh, Children's Sikhi Class Syllabus If you were to design a syllabus for children (8-14) attending a weekly, 30 minute sikhi class what sort of syllabus would you have? When you were a child what did you want from your weekly Sikhi Class? What did you feel was missing? What were the main problems/failings? To address these: Where would you start? What are the key themes you would cover? How would you hope to cover sikh theology, philosophy, history, maryada, and relevance? How would you go about assessing their understanding? Are there any key resources that you would recommend? What methods could you use to further engage the children? I hope by the end of this thread we can have developed a basic syllabus - I have a group of children at the Gurudwara Sahib who would be willing volunteers for a Sikhsangat.com experiment. 6. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh This petition is to create awareness against the practice of "Agan Bhet" of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, old Gutka/Pothi Sahibs and Old Sikh Manuscripts. "Agan Bhet" is a ritual where old saroops are burnt to ensure according to some individuals that they don't deteriorate further and to uphold their sanctity. Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj is Jaagdi jot - The Living Guru. We therefore feel that the act of burning alive Sargun Saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj defeats the very purpose of upholding their sanctity and contradicts their very definition - Jaagdi jot. We ask Sikhs to consider Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj sahib as the living Guru and to ask themselves - When a human being gets old do their sons and daughters burn them alive? If the answer is no then why do we want to burn our beloved Satguruji? We also ask our Sikh leaders to create Sikh Heritage Centres where old saroops can be preserved with utmost satkar. The practise of burning saroops and destroying our own rich heritage has gone on for too long and must be stopped. Let us all come forward and be united. Let us put down our own individual differences and stand united - hand in hand - against the practice of Agan Bhet towards all Sikh Scriptures - Gutka Sahibs, Pothi Sahibs, Senchiyas, and Saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj regardless of whether it is in laridvar or padched format, regardless of whether it has Raagmala or not, and regardless of whether its old or new with unfortunate occurrences. 7. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh, There is a big difference between simplifying concepts and modifying them. Anyways this is a different discussion completely so I'm not going to say anymore on the matter. Bhai Jugraj Singh Ji is doing a great job - May Guru Sahib continue to bless him and grant him further seva. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh
  8. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh, Please visit the Gurudwara Sahib in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh where the Bhagats under Bhagat Ramanand Ji met Satguru Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj. It's a shame these days we have pacharaks who for reasons only known to themselves continue to tow the line of - Hindu and Muslim Saints instead of what they really were - Sikhs of the True Guru. 9. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh One time Sant Sundar Singh Ji Bhindranwale was taken to hospital with an illness. The Chief Khalsa Divan honorary secretary Dr. Diwan Singh Ji came to the hospital to have darshan of Mahapursh. Dr. Diwan Singh Ji had done darshan of many Brahmgyanis including Sant Baba Shaam Singh JI - the kirtani of Sachkhand Sri Darbar Sahib Ji. After exchanging Fateh with Santji he asked/did a benti to Santji to give a Bachan. Santji simply said I'm ill what Bachan can I possibly give? Santji then asked Dr. Diwan Singh Ji to examine him and begin some treatment. Dr. Diwan Singh Ji then proceeded to narrate an experience from his own life. He said to Santji that every time I switch on my car - from the engine itself I hear 'waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru Dhan Guru Nanak Dev Ji waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru'. Santji said you have a lot of bakhseesh and kirpa bestowed on you by Guru Sahib. Dr. Diwan Singh Ji then said I've told you about this kirpa now please give a Bachan. Santji smiled and said I will give Bachan but before that you are a doctor, please examine me and treat me. Hearing this Dr. Diwan Singh Ji took out his stethoscope and begin to examine Santji. Everywhere the stethoscope was placed only one thing was heard - Waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru. This is the Nishani of a Gursikh. Very loose translation from katha by Giani Ram Singh. How my ears and my stethoscope long to meet a patient like Santji. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh
  10. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh, Read/listen to katha on Sri Suraj Prakash Granth for a detailed list. Of the top of my head the list includes: Kazi, One who deals with alcohol, One who deals in falsehood, Brahmin, Kaami, One engrossed in the 5 Kalishas, Mayadhari etc Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh
  11. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh, This is not your dastaar or someone else's dastaar. This dastaar belongs to Kalgidhar Shamsher Pita Ji. Our history has shown us how the sons and daughters of Satguruji respond to such attacks. May Guruji bless us with such understanding so that we can follow in their footsteps. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh
  12. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh, Negative sangat - family or not is like poison to a Gursikh. Do ardas for them, increase your abhiyaas, place all your faith in Guru Sahib and if necessary remove yourself from such a negative environment - lest you do something you end up regretting all your life. May Guru Sahib bless you with his mat. Btw in Sri Suraj Prakash Granth, Kavi Santokh Singh Ji has written that Guru Gobind Singh Ji has advised his Khalsa to avoid 12 different type of people. If sangat of these people is done then you are likely to find yourself in narak in this world and the next. Guru Sahib Kirpa Karo Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh
  13. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh, Amazing achievement! In the back of my mind I still think why oh why could your surname not have been Singh? Singh's Layer sounds so much better than Dua's layer! Gurusahib kirpa karo Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh
  14. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh,I fully agree with you Bhai Sahib. If you read Bhai Rama Singh Ji's autobiography he has written about how certain akhandpati's who engaged in the beadbi of Maharaj would spontaneously self combust. The Sadhsangat at Sri Hazur Sahib Ji did an ardas to Guruji to make this punishment Gupt as many people were too afraid to do Maharaj's seva after witnessing/seeing this. No amount of Satkaar for Guruji is enough - but we must try. If we don't how will we ever received Guruji's kirpa. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh
  15. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh, I remember making 'chocolate' cupcakes out of mud and offering them to the neighbours children... I wasn't allowed in the kitchen after that. Maaf Karo Guru Sahib Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh
  16. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh, Has anyone read this book on Sri Zafarnama Sahib Ji? If so what did you make of it? Is it worth buying? The following is a book description on Amazon: Louis E. Fenech offers a compelling new examination of one of the only Persian compositions attributed to the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh (1666-1708): the Zafar-namah or 'Epistle of Victory.' Written as a masnavi, a Persian poem, this letter was originally sent to the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb (d. 1707) rebuking his most unbecoming conduct. Incredibly, Guru Gobind Singh's letter is included today within the Sikh canon, one of only a very small handful of Persian-language texts granted the status of Sikh scripture. As such, its contents are sung on special Sikh occasions. Perhaps equally surprising is the fact that the letter appears in the tenth Guru's book or the Dasam Granth in the standard Gurmukhi script (in which Punjabi is written) but retains its original Persian language, a vernacular few Sikhs know. Drawing out the letter's direct and subtle references to the Iranian national epic, the Shah-namah, and to Shaikh Sa'di's thirteenth-century Bustan, Fenech demonstrates how this letter served as a form of Indo-Islamic verbal warfare, ensuring the tenth Guru's moral and symbolic victory over the legendary and powerful Mughal empire. Through analysis of the Zafar-namah, Fenech resurrects an essential and intriguing component of the Sikh tradition: its Islamicate aspect. Gururakha, Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh
  17. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh, Admin - Please make this a sticky! We talk about Brahmvidiya/gyan - this is that very knowledge. Kamalpreet Singh Ji you're a gift to the panth. Keep up the beautiful seva. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh
  18. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh Recently I have seen a lot of posts talking about Sant Jarnail Singh Ji's Avastha and Jeevani. For those who want to know more about Santji's amazing spiritual jeevani - please watch the following videos Punjabi English Sant ALWAYS comes before sipahi. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh
  19. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh, Waheguruji. Reading some of the responses here it is very clear the Indian government has been very successful in destroying us not only physically but mentally as well. To those individuals such as guruvah - one time a Singh called Ajmer Singh came to Sant Jarnail Singh Ji and asked will we be victorious? Santji looked at him and said before asking me this question remove Singh from your name. How can any son of Satguru Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj ask such a question? We belong to the king of this world and the next - of course we will be victorious! The only question is when. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh
  20. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh, Thanks Neo. Any further katha, books/steeks you'd recommend? Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh
  21. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh, I'm doing some research into the Das Grahin currently. Compassion Charity Forgiveness Cleanliness Control of mind Purity Appreciation of truth Spiritually accomplished being Warrior Devotee to God and no other Does anyone know which ang in Sri Sarbloh Granth Sahib Ji Guru Sahib has written about these ten qualities/virtues? Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh
  22. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh Waheguruji, that Singh and the horse are so beautiful. Why? Because they both belong to Satguru Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj. I know a lot of us like wearing clothing with Santji's image, but Santji intended for us to wear his image both internally and externally. That means starting to tread on the path of 151 Sri Japji sahib's, the Panj Granthi and a nitnem that lasts 22 hours... Guru Sahib Kirpa Karo. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh
  23. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh One time a bibi who lived in Amritsar had a child who had contracted some long term illness. The mother took the child to hospital but despite several treatments the child failed to get better. Day and Night would be spent at her child's bedside - looking after its every need. One day she caught a glimpse of Sant Baba Shaam Singh Ji the beloved kirtani of Satguru Sri Guru Raam Das Ji Maharaj's house - Sachkhand Sri Darbar Sahib Ji. A thought came into her head as she saw him. He is a Sadhu, a Mahapursh, a Bhramgyani - if there is anyone who can make my child better its him. In this way she decided to go very early in the morning and leave her child on the street that Sant Baba Shaam Singh Ji would walk on as he made his way to Sachkhand Sri Darbar Sahib. When Mahapursh was walking to Darbar Sahib at amritwela - he saw a child had been left by the side of the road. He picked up the child and carried it with him to Sachkhand Sri Darbar Sahib. Whilst carrying the child he was singing the praises of Akaal Purakh. Santji began to see that the child he was holding was very lethargic and unwell. As a consequence he sprinkled water from the Amrit Sarovar and began to recite Sri Sukhmani Sahib Ji. Eventually Santji after spending the day at Sachkhand Sri Darbar Sahibji Santji took the child back to Dharamsala Sri Guru Nanak Devji Dasan Das Shaam Singh. All along the child's mother had followed Santji and now she entered the Gurudwara Sahib. When she saw that her child was very alert and playful she fell at the feet of Sant Baba Sham Singhji. Santji realised she was the mother of the child and immediately said why are you thanking me? I have done nothing! Go to Teerath Raaj Maharaj Sri Amritsar Sahib - and thank Satguruji the king of kings, the saint of saints and the ocean of compassion. It is the house of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, it is their bani, their very form which has bestowed this kirpa on you and your child. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh
  24. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh, Excellent questions Neo Veerji. Look forward to the recordings. Can you also ask about the composition of the 96 crore fauj? Who are the generals? What is the entrance criteria? Where is the shaheed sarovar? Whereabouts at Sachkhand Sri Hazur Sahib will they become 'visible' at the end of Kaljug? Many thanks Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh
  25. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh This is a very rare photograph of Sant Baba Shaam Singh Ji, the beautiful kirtani of Satguru Sri Guru Raam Das Ji Maharaj. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh
