  1. I have to say that we cant group all people leaving Sikhi into one group. I do not have an answer or know much about those who leave Sikhi for another faith. Now I have some experience with those that have become atheists. It all boils down to the existence of God, or any other All-Powerful force. They don't care much about the semantics of Gurmat's different concept of Akaal Purakh. They will in all sincerity ask for proof of the existence of Akaal Purakh Vaheguru. This is where it all ends. I have three friends that were amritdharis and are now atheists. So this entire "they haven't read guru granth sahib and they haven't read sikh history" is false. The ones that become atheists are actually more inclined to make attempts at reading bani to find answers. The real issue is that the present day is a very bad time for religion in general. People in general are far less inclined to belief in God and want tangible proof for existence. This is an era of disbelief where there is a huge causal relationship between education and atheism. Atheism is only going to increase because of people forsaking all religious belief in general and Sikhism is no exception. Remember, Guru Granth Sahib ji starts with Ik Oangkar. Herein lies the problem that many people leaving Sikhi have. They consider this to be an unsubstantiated assumption of the existence of God.
  2. We need to realize that Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwala is just s young man at the end of the day. I was a little disappointed in the timing and they whiny nature of his interview. I thought Sants are always suppose to be in Chardikala? I think his situation is very simple. He does have dard for the panth. It would be ludicrous to suggest otherwise. We need to remember that he was one of the first few people to stand up against the beadbi. But I am very disappointed with him crying for one hour in an interview and not giving much substance at all. To sum up the video, all he said is "people are being mean to me." :'-( It should be clear to anyone in a leadership position that CRITICISM IS PART OF THE GAME. Don't expect to have a role at the forefront without critics. My personal opinion on the situation is that Ranjit singh is trying to keep himself in both boats. Not trying to upset the Establishment (Badal) too much and not trying to offend the Panth. This way he can cozy up with whoever eventually comes out on top. I dont consider him a Sarkari banda but someone that is interested in self preservation.
  3. To my knowledge, most pagh wearing officers are monas. They wear paghs because it is a part of their uniform. I have met a few officers that cut their hair but still wear paghs when on duty. I'm not sure if this is the case for all officers, but I;m assuming that this is the case with most.
  4. For the mongols, I would say that one of the big factors was the breed of horses they used. I do not have the particulars of the breed of horses, but these were fairly small horses that the mongols were able to steer with their thighs. This allowed them to shoot arrows without the extra work of steering with their hands. I believe the breed of horse was over-utilized and is now extinct. The mongols were also fairly organized and had an effective chain of command. The Mongols were also a purely mounted army giving them the ability to traverse long distances. Now before we begin comparing the Sikh Kingdom with the Mongols, we have to understand that the two were in very different situations. The Mongols come from the Steppes. A fairly unpopulated region. Ghenghis Khan consolidated his power before before the expansion began. Sardar Ranjit Singh did not have the same luxury. He was unable to consolidate all the Punjab States because of the immediate presence of the British who the Malwa States had approached for protection.States like Patiala. (the boyz that invented our modern day pagh) There really wasnt much that Ranjit Singh could do. Everything East was blocked and the only option was going West. (conquering Aghanistan) Ranjit Singh died at a fairly early age as well. The Sikh State was created in a heavily populated part of the world with very powerful neighboring States interfering. The Mongols' biggest threat would be polar bear invasion from the north.
  5. about tarmala. i know a singh who was in jail with this tarmala. he told us the entire story of this character. apparently tarmala practiced ridh sidh. he would look at peoples' forehead and proclaim to read their future. not only did he do these weird things, he also slandered many shaheed singhs. but the sings didn't allow such slandering and silenced his nindya.
  6. i spirituality terms, i dont see a difference between damalla and pointy pagg. but pointy pagg is promoted by sgpc, as if you want to do kirtan at harimandir sahib you have to wear a pointy pagg (chardikala jatha is the only exceptiion. nobody else can as demonstrated when some Akhand Kirtani Jatha singhs from australia and california wanted to do kirtan but were required to wear ponty pagg). THe SGPC claims that pointy pagg is more formal or proper which is why they require it. they don't want anyone to do kirtan at harmandir sahib, but want them to look respectable. which is why i think they have made white kurtas and pointy pagg (black or blue) the standard. when this all came into play, i have no clue. i think the real question posed here is what is bana? damalla chola? (i am an agyani so don't know the answer) concerning the original post. the concept of a pagg and what it represents has entirely changed. it doesn't hold the respectabliity that it once did.
  7. i agree with cheema_nz. i went to ganganagar in rajistan which has a sikh majority. in my one month there, i saw 3 amritdhari youth. went to malwa. nothin surprising, nihangs always high with local people fighting all the time. the amritdhari family who's house i went to, there son cut his hair and didnt know anything about sikhi. went to another families house who had pictures of sant jarnail singh, yet their son also cut his hair. visited the granthi of the pind, talked to him and he said that sikhi was dieing in malwa. this was said by the granthi of a pind near malout. we talked to him and he told us how the gurudwara is a small shack because people dont want to donate. the people were too busy making huge mansions that outshined the gurudwara (hut). i'm not sure about delhi, but amritsar is the only place where i saw sikhi. even there, i went to my uncles house and there children went to christian school. both my uncles shaved their beards. didnt know <banned word filter activated> bout sikhi to my knowledge. didnt get drunk because me and my family were there.
  8. bijay singh by bhai vir singh all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
  9. these sadhs are worse than people like ram rahim
  10. don't try to win anybodies love. not every gursikh is a true gursikh. don't care what most of those peope think. all you need to care about is what guru ji thinks. don't become a sikh if you're unsure. if you want to take amrit, there should be no doubt in your mind. a true sikh wouldn't turn his back on anybody. you need to know one thing and that is that even if you take amrit, you don't just become a sant. taking amrit is just the start. you need to do some self searching. you need to sit down and ask yourself the question "am i a sikh"
  11. anyone have the link from where i can download shri dasam granth, shri guru granth sahib, sarbloh granth, and suraj prakash
  12. anyone have the link from where i can download shri dasam granth, shri guru granth sahib, sarbloh granth, and suraj prakash
  13. if you listen to classical kirtan or some old school ragis, there's a huge difference between that style of kirtan and the new era of AKJ kirtan and bollywood tunes kirtan. was there any specific way that guru meant for kirtan to be done. does anybody today do kirtan the way guru arjan dev ji did kirtan? or have we gotten rid of the old ways? all i know is that when i listen to bhai balbir singh (ex hazoori ragi) kirtan it sounds way betyter than when i hear some ragis doing bollywood tunes
  14. what does gurbani say about the creation of the world. any bani in particular
