  1. And shouldn't the admins remove this post? Pointless and has no room on the sikhsangat forums.
  2. To those who didn't know about this video, they do now. We don't know what happened exactly and neither is it our business, but she has been further shamed publicly by us here... good job! (Sarcasm btw)
  3. GOD doesnt want anyone to starve, especially on purpose.
  4. Yes Tattoos are a grey area. However if we bring this debate to its basics, without beating around the bush.... It doesn’t matter where or how Gurbani is written, it should be given the utmost respect. I'm not pointing the finger at Bajwa, but I guess she is representing Sikhs when she is on screen, and especially now that she has Bani on her arm. Again, this applies to everyone who has Bani tattooed to them. If you can give it the utmost respect then fine, otherwise leave well alone. Just a note on how much satkaar is given to not just Gurbani, but Gurmukhi. In some katha I heard, Sant Gurbachan Singh Ji along with some other Singh’s heard another Gursikh meditating and reciting the Gurmukhi alphabet in the early hours of the morning. When the Singhs asked Sant Ji why, he replied "Gurmukhi, is just that.... It is from the mouth of the Guru, and some people have that much respect for it, they obtain raas just by repeating Gurmukhi".
  5. Has anyone seen the film Wild Bill? To my amazement the starting of the film begins with that muppet comedian Hardeep Kohli in bed, no top, giving some money to a women for 'her services'. Seriously man, what was this guy thinking when filming this. She later mentions to someone how she has sorted out the turban?!?!?!?!?!? Kind of goes against all the hard work going into promoting the Sikh image and for us to be taken seriously. Messed up!!!!

The uproar has created a serious challenge for the Badal Government,’’ states the secret US Embassy Cable leaked by Wikileaks. In May 2007 the Dera Sacha Sauda chief had hurt religious feelings of the Sikh community, when he appeared in an advertisement wearing an attire that Sikhs claimed resembled that of Guru Gobind Singh. While terror experts had said that some groups wanted to utilise the controversy to re-ignite the separatist movement, the Sikh groups had asked for an unconditional apology from the religious leader. The May 22, 2007 dispatch states that the resurgence of rhetoric calling for the creation of a separate Sikh state (Khalistan) was perhaps the most disturbing trend developing from the communal tensions in Punjab. “Since the violent suppression of the Khalistan movement in the turbulent 80s and 90s, pro-Khalistani elements have been relegated to the fringes of society,” it states, adding that some Punjab watchers expressed fear that the separatists may re-emerge. “The uproar has created a serious challenge for the (Parkash Singh) Badal government. He cannot allow the controversy to continue unabated, but also cannot afford to alienate his Sikh political base or the Hindu support base of his coalition partners, the BJP. Should Rahim formally submit an 'acceptable' apology to the Sikh community, the crisis could quickly die down and pull the Badal government back from the brink.” The cable goes on talk about the dilemma that the chief minister faced in the ensuing crisis. “Badal remains in a tight bind, performing a complicated dance, appealing to his Sikh base — supporting their demand for an apology, while trying to maintain law and order... Badal’s political coalition partner, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is also throwing strong rhetoric… to keep its Hindu base happy, stating "if anything goes wrong...the government headed by Badal shall be solely responsible. The BJP will not hesitate in taking hard decisions in the larger interests of the people of Punjab,” the cable states. It goes on to say that while Hindus might not support the Sacha Sauda religious sect, the Sikh protests are hurting business, and traders, the traditional BJP vote bank, are losing money. “Congress also has a vested interest in the dispute, since Dera Sacha Sauda supported it in the 2007 elections,’’ the cable further stated. Rampant drug abuse finds mention Another dispatch of October 31, 2008, mentions that several contacts had raised the issue of rampant drug use in the state. The then Director General of Police NPS Aulak had mentioned that the problem has worsened in the last 10 years and affects people from all income brackets across the state. The cable also blames unemployment as one of the major reasons behind rising cases of drug abuse. “With a stagnant agricultural sector, and limited employment opportunities in private companies, many young Punjabis have turned to the drug trade to make a living,” the cable reads, adding that drug use is on the rise in rural Punjab where farmers use drugs to "dull the pain" of debt and to deal with the isolation of rural life.

  9. http://www.indianexpress.com/news/sikh-cricket-fan-denied-entry-in-lords/821934/ Baptized Sikh cricket fan Gurdev Singh was denied access to the Lord's cricket ground on Sunday after he was found to be carrying a traditional Kirpan (dagger). On being denied entry, Singh staged a protest outside the east gate of the Lord's cricket ground, where a Test match between India and England is being played. “I was refused entry because I did not agree to take off my Kirpan as Kirpan is a body part of a Sikh. It is always on our body, we wash with it, we clothe ourselves everyday, we go everywhere with our Kirpan. That much respect we give to our Kirpan,” said Singh. “It is the same Kirpan that saved half of people and are able to live in freedom, when Sikhs went from all the villages from Punjab, from Jalandar, Phagwara, Ludhiana and came in for with these English people against the Nazis. A woe, which had nothing to do with us but yes my ancestors which I am proud of, they came from India fought here, honorably. And gave me the ability to live freely but now I am asked to take my Kirpan off and refused entry,” added Singh He said that Lord's might be a legendary cricket venue, but it is also one of the dirtiest places in London. Kirpan is a curved ceremonial dagger and is regarded as one of the key religious symbols of the Sikh community. Five articles of faith are required to wear by baptized Sikhs, the Kirpan, the Kara – a steel bracelet, the Kachhehra – a type of shorts, kes – the unshorn hairs and the Kangha – a comb, which is further covered by a turban. ... contd.

  11. ** Mod note: This was already posted. In the future, please do a search Topic closed. ** I dont know if this has been posted before but this is shocking. I feel bad for this family that amongst the millions of Sikhs they have reportedly not got any support! http://www.panthic.org/articles/5350 PREMI CULTISTS ASSAULT AMRITDHARI SIKH YOUTH SOURCE: PSN | Published on May 9, 2011 Balwinder Singh's Kes were Forcibly Cut by Cultists LEHARGAGA, PUNJAB - In yet another incident that will further enrage the sentiments of the Sikh community, residents of the southern town of Chadpura discovered that followers of Sauda cultist Ram Raheem humiliated and assaulted a young Amritdhari Sikh boy and forcibly sheared of his sacred kes (hair) . Sikhs consider kes as a gift from God, and do not remove them from their body under any circumstances. On May 6th of 2011, Sauda cult follower Tarsem Sinh forcibly took Balwinder Singh, age 12 to his nearby shop, and attacked and dishonored the young boy with the help of other cultist "premis". When the boy resisted the assault, they began to beat him, and then began to shear of his kes with a pair of sharp scissors. The boy suffered several cuts on his head due to the altercation, in which the sacred hair from his head were removed. When Balwinder Singh reached home, his mother, Charanjit Kaur fainted upon seeing her son in this condition. Neighbors soon arrived to help the family – they were all shocked to see what had just occurred. The Charanjit Kaur and her husband Makhan Singh have approached Gurdwara Sangatpur Sahib Management and other Sikh organizations for help in this matter. The Punjab police, so far, has not taken any action against the premi cultists. Mother of Amritdhari boy who was assaulted by Cultists The family stated that the Jakhal Police station initially tried to cover-up the incident, and only filed the complaint paperwork after realizing the threat of action by Sikh organizations. Jakhal Police SHO, Dilbagh Singh has hinted that the police would take action against the cultists Tarsem Singh, son of Rangi Singh and two of his accomplices. Interestingly, in 2007, Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the Supreme Temporal and Religious Authority for the Sikhs ordered all Sauda Cult Dera outlets be shutdown throughout Punjab. The ruling Akali Dal (Badal) party has yet to take action against the cult deras, despite the death of several Sikhs due to the ongoing tension between the cultists and the Sikh community.
  12. Sikh community to renovate damaged Baghdad gurdwara Yudhvir Rana, May 22, 2011, 04.12pm AMRITSAR: After restoration of Gurdwara's of Pakistan and Bangladesh, the Sikh community have now taken up the task of renovation of 15th century Gurdwara of Guru Nanak Dev which suffered damage in 2003 American invasion on Iraq. Chairman of International Sikh Council Mukhtiar Singh Assal who is also a known friend of former Iraqi president Saddam Hussain told TOI on Sunday that embassy of Iraq had invited him to visit the Gurdwara and take and take first hand account of the gurdwara condition before taking up its restoration work. He was here to pay obeisance at Golden Temple before leading a delegation of Sikhs to Baghdad. The Gurdwara was founded by Mohammad Pasha Amoot follower of Peer Bakol at the time of visit of Guru Nanak's visit to Baghdad where Guru Nanak Dev had arrived on way back from Mecca and Madina. Quoting his meeting with Saddam Hussain in Baghdad in January 1990 Assal said "Saddam had deep respect for Sikh Guru's and knew Sikh Guru's philosophy of universal peace and brotherhood". He said when he took up the issue of Baghdad Gurdwara with Saddam, he (Saddam) immediately ordered for the opening of Gurdwara . He said the invitation of Iraq government for the restoration of Gurdwaa was a matter of great significance for Sikhs. "Here in India, with our own government not a single brick could be laid for the construction of temple and we have got invitation from Iraq government which is a matter of pride for Sikhs" said he. Meanwhile Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar said the committee had also written to Iraq government and had sought appointment to discuss over the issue of renovation of damaged Gurdwara in Baghdad. He said SGPC would extend cooperation to anyone performing sewa in the Baghdad Gurdwara. Head Granthi of Golden Temple Giani Jaswinder Singh performed ardas for chardi kala (high esteem) of the delegation.
  13. http://www.zeenews.com/news704528.html Lahore: The Evacuee Trust Property Board, the custodian of their religious places in Pakistan, has been accused by the Sikh community permitting cooking of prohibited meat in the holy Gurdwara Panja Sahib in Hassanabdal. The Gurdwara in Hassanabdal is one of the holiest places for the Sikhs living in Pakistan and even in India. "We want a FIR lodged against the ETPB over this matter," Sikh community leader Sardar Bishan Singh told the 'Express Tribune' daily newspaper. Bishan accused the Evacuee Trust Property Board, the custodian of their religious places, of trying to ignore the issue rather than taking steps against those responsible. "We demand that an FIR be lodged and the culprits who cooked meat in our Gurdwara be penalised," he said. "Meat, eggs and tobacco are prohibited in Sikhism like pork is in Islam," he said. "The caretaker, along with local Muslim staff, cooked meat in Gurdwara Panja Sahib on Sunday," said a member of Gurdwara Panja Sahib Sewadar Society Sardar Pretam Singh. "It is unfortunate for Sikhs that custodians of their religious places, who are almost all Muslims, have been involved in violation of their faith," said Bishon Singh. Pretam Singh added that he caught one staff member red-handed with meat in the Gurdwara's kitchen. "When I complained to the caretaker of the Gurdwara, Memrooz Khan, he rebuffed my plea," he said. ETPB's additional secretary and deputy administrator then conducted an inquiry and transferred all staff from the Gurdwara. "We demanded that all employees involved in the act should at least be suspended, but ETPB refused to do so," Bishan said. Sardar Bishon Singh said that anyone who desecrates a religious place should be tried under section 295 of the Pakistan Penal Code, he added. ETPB's deputy administrator Faraz Abbas said he was not sure whether anyone cooked meat at the Gurdwara, but on complaints by the community, all staff has been transferred and new people have been appointed. 14. http://www.punjabnewsline.com/content/mass-grave-65-sikhs-burnt-alive-delhi-found-after-26-years/30265 Mass Grave of 65 Sikhs burnt alive in Delhi found after 26 years Punjab Newsline Network Tuesday, 12 April 2011 By Jaideep ManderCHANDIGARH: The All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF), National 1984 Victims Justice & Welfare Society and Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) in a startling revelation have claimed to find a mass grave of 65 Sikhs burnt alive in Delhi. This was revealed by the representatives of the three organizations in a press conference here. The mass grave of Sikhs killed in November 1984 has been discovered after 26 years at Gurudwara in 22 Block, Nagloi, No. 1, Delhi where more than sixty five (65) Sikhs alongwith the Granthi and Sri Guru Granth Sahib were burnt alive in November 1984. The site where Sikhs were burnt alive and killed is located in front of Gurudwara Udaseen Taran Asharm. The Sikh Organizations also released a list of 49 Sikhs (who were burnt alive and killed) and 9 Gurudwaras of Nangloi, Sultanpuri, Kalyanpuri and Mangolpuri areas of Delhi that were burnt and now lie in debris. Karnail Singh Peermohammad, President AISSF said that victims at Gurudwara Udaseen were targeted only because they were Sikhs. Peermohammad blamed the DSGMC for having miserably failed to protect the Gurudwaras and to prosecute the attackers during past 26 years. He also accused the Sarna brothers who head the DSGMC of not filing a complaint against Kamal Nath for leading the attack on Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib and having constantly shielding Kamal Nath and Congress (I). As a matter of fact, no one till date was ever investigated, arrested or prosecuted for attacking the place of worship. The startling discovery of mass grave of 65 Sikhs along with ruins of Gurudwaras in Delhi and ruins of Hondh-Chillar, Pataudi and Gurgaon is an irrefutable evidence that in November 1984, Sikhs were targeted and attacked in a systematic and identical manner throughout India, said Adv. Navkiran Singh, Chief Legal Counsel to SFJ. Adv. Navkiran also told that in the relief package given by the Prime Minister though focus to benefit the victims and the families in terms of money, job securities etc. but nothing was offered by the government to re-establish the ruined Gurudwaras. A documentary made by the AISSF on April 7, was projected that featured all the Gurudwaras discovered in their present state. Adv. Navkiran also told that the main purpose of the press conference was to draw the attention of the Sikhs all over the world aware of the present situation and to support the re-esatblishment of the holy places. Peermohammad demanded a resignation from that the presidents of the DGPC and the SGPC on account of the deteriorated situation of the Gurudwaras. He also said that if nothing would be done by the Prabandhak Committes, they would start the renovation process on their own at their level with the help of Sikh sangat. Adv. Navkiran appealed the government, the DGPC and the Sikhs to come forward to protect and rebuild the ruined places of worship so as to restore the secular fabric of the nation. “We are not strictly asking to rebuild Gurudwaras, instead, any public place for common purpose of the people like public library, public school or any structure can be build that would be beneficial for people in the surrounding areas. But, if the places are left to deteriorate as they are, this would be a disrespect towards the sentiments of the people attached to these places”, said Adv. Navkiran. Babu Singh Dukhia. President “National 1984 Victims Justice & Welfare Society” urged witnesses and survivors to come forward if they know of any hidden location where Sikhs were killed during November 1984. Babu Singh’s relentless efforts have brought forth the present discovery. The 48 Sikh victims (out of 65) in Nangloi “Y” Block 1984 riots were identified as:1. 15. Who are you cheating by taking more than its worth? The Govenerment probs wont be missing out on it really will they? Just out of interest where in Amritsar is this land? Your not the one charging people more than its worth, they are willing to pay because they will most probably be making profit from it also. If this opportunity has been presented to you, take it. Sorry, I'm saying to cheat anyone or anything, thats wrong, but if that land is in demand and someone wants to pay that much, then why not? What would happen if you were caught?
  16. Yes I have to agree that things are def getting bad here as is the whole of Punjab in general. However, as this is the centre for Sikhi and tourism it really does give off the wrong message. Just seems to me the mindset of the youth over there is totally misguided. (Not all the youth though!)
  17. Or you could think about how it would be to fail?! lol Sorry. Then you might just want to study.
  18. WJKKWJKF Just out of interest, why would this be controversial? As per psot below, Bhagat Farid was known by different titles either of which would cause no disrespect.
  19. As per previous post, Waheguru does not 'do deals' or 'promises', to do so would be an insult to His infinite power. He knows exactly whats in your heart and whether you did something on purpose or not. Remember, He is ever forgiving and compassinate towards His children... you! We all make mistakes, and yes we do them over and over again. if you didnt do this, you would not remember Waheguru. Dont worry about it so much because it will eat you away. Just do ardaas and Chaupai Sahib path as described and all will be fine! Good luck with the admittance to college but if it doesnt go to plan then accept it as His hukam and not that God has cursed you for the rest of your life. It all happens for a reason and always for the best.
  20. WJKKWJKF I dont think its as clear cut as simply saying you follow all or some of the 5 virtues or fail on some of the 5 vices either. Its not an exact science to say that doing 'a certain thing' can be classed under a certain vice. Mistakes are there to be made, everyone does them..... However its more important that we learn from them. By making these mistakes and learning from them it determines the type of character we become in the future. Its scary where your mind takes you sometimes, but if your human instinct tell you its wrong, then I guess your half way there. You recognise somethings wrong, and you try to stop doing/thinking it. Its difficult for anybody in this life to be free from the panj chor, but with the strength of Bani you can certainly work towards it. Not sure if that all makes sense now reading it over lol Hope it helps. WJKWJKF
  21. You cant force people to think the same as yourself. Carry on with what you are doing, but try and be patient with others rather than telling them what is right and what is wrong. Who are we to say what’s right and what’s wrong. Maybe in their hearts they do remember God but just don’t put it on show. When you start learning about Sikhi it can all become overwhelming at first, purely because your mind and heart will be at peace and you've found answers you were looking for. Forcing or telling your family they are doing something that you feel is wrong is unfair to them. What if they cant keep up with you in the amount of simran/ nitnem etc you do... or worse still you make them start and they cant keep it up. Try talking to your family. Sometimes a simple communication problem can blow all things out of proportion. Rather than thinking everyone is against you, try acting relaxed about it. I’m sure they will be supportive of you.
