  1. A Monarch of long ago had twin sons. As they grew to young manhood, the king sought a fair way to designate one of them as crown prince. All who knew the young men thought them equal in intelligence, wit, personal charm, health, and physical strength. Being a keenly observant king, he thought he detected a trait in one which was not shared by the other. Calling them to his council chamber one day, he said, "My sons, the day will come when one of you must succeed me as king. The weight of sovereignty is very heavy. To find out which of you is better able to bear them cheerfully, I am sending you together to a far corner of the kingdom. One of my advisor will place equal burdens on your shoulders. My crown will one day go to the one who first returns bearing his burden like a king should." In a spirit of friendly competition, the brothers set out together. Soon they overtook an aged woman struggling under a burden that seemed far too heavy for her frail body. One of the boys suggested that they stop to help her. The other protested: "We have a saddle of our own to worry about. Let us be on our way." The objector hurried on while the other stayed behind to give aid to the aged woman. Along the road, from day to day, he found others who also needed help. A blind man took him miles out of his way, and a lame man slowed him to a cripple's walk. Eventually he did reach his father's advisor, where he secured his own yoke and started home with it safely on his shoulders. When he arrived at the palace, his brother met him at the gate, and greeted him with dismay. He said, "I don't understand. I told our father the weight was too heavy to carry. How did you do it?" The future king replied thoughtfully, "I suppose when I helped others carry their yoke, I found the strength to carry my own." How often is it that we have ignored the feelings of another person because we have been too busy with our work? The truth is that it is this very ignorance that causes us to believe that no one else in this world can ever suffer how much we are going through. Have you ever wondered that there are probably millions of people out there, who are starving? Yet we complain about the time that we get our food or the taste of it... There are countless of people out there who need help – have you been so busy thinking about your problems that you've missed the chance to lend them a helping hand? We are all part of one family – so try to help anyone who needs any form of help – sometimes its just a matter of saying some kind words. Learn to smile to everyone who you meet no matter how many problems you are going through. I can guarantee you that the response they give to you will give you enough strength to fight with anything in this world!! There is a saying in Punjabi - “Din oh nahi rahe, ta din eh vi nahi rehenge.” Meaning if the good times didn't stay forever, then these bad times will not either – just have faith in Waheguru and keep on spreading love everywhere!

  4. Once a poor man was given a book, that although didn't seem very valuable and wasn't interesting to read, but it had the secret of the 'touchstone'. This was no ordinary stone...it had the power to turn any common metal into pure gold. The writing explained that it was lying among thousands and thousands of other pebbles that looked exactly like it. But the secret was this: The real stone would feel warm, while ordinary pebbles are cold.So the man sold his few belongings, bought some simple supplies, camped on the seashore, and began testing pebbles. He knew that if he picked up ordinary pebbles and threw them down again because they were cold, he might pick up the same pebble hundreds of times. So, when he felt one that was cold, he threw it into the sea. He spent a whole day doing this but none of them was the touchstone. Yet he went on and on this way. Pick up a pebble. Cold - throw it into the sea. Pick up another. Throw it into the sea. The days stretched into weeks and the weeks into months. One day, however, about mid afternoon, he picked up a pebble and it was warm. He threw it into the sea before he realized what he had done. He had formed such a strong habit of throwing each pebble into the sea that when the one he wanted came along, he still threw it away. So it is with opportunity. Unless we are vigilant, it's easy to fail to recognize an opportunity when it is in hand and it's just as easy to throw it away. How many times have you ignored the presence of 'Waheguru' because you've wasted time thinking too much about worldly things? How many times have you failed to recognise the presence of 'Waheguru' in others because you've been blindfolded with ego or you paid too much attention to their bad qualities? How many times have you missed blessings of Waheguru because you've been too busy counting your sorrows? ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ Bilāval mėhlā 5. 6. Once a man was walking along a beach. The sun was shining and it was a beautiful day. Off in the distance he could see a person going back and forth between the surf's edge and the beach. Back and forth this person went. As the man approached, he could see that there were hundreds of starfish stranded on the sand as the result of the natural action of the tide. The man was stuck by the the apparent futility of the task. There were far too many starfish. Many of them were sure to perish. As he approached, the person continued the task of picking up starfish one by one and throwing them into the surf. As he came up to the person, he said: "You must be crazy. There are thousands of miles of beach covered with starfish. You can't possibly make a difference." The person looked at the man. He then stooped down and pick up one more starfish and threw it back into the ocean. He turned back to the man and said: "It sure made a difference to that one!" A beautiful story to remind us all the time that we all have the ability to make a difference! No matter how small or big the help but it still matters so never think twice before doing a good deed! Don't ever underestimate what you can do to make this world a better place to live in!

  8. There was no camp that was ever going to take place at Smethwick Gurdwara. It was still in the planning process, I know because my friends were the ones that were planning it. There has obviously been some misunderstanding. It is no good if people just start spreading rumours.
  9. A lesson in "heart" is about a little 10-year-old girl, who was born with a muscle missing in her foot and wears a brace all the time. She came home one beautiful spring day to tell her mother she had competed in "field day" - that's where they have lots of races and other competitive events. Because of her leg support, her mothers' mind raced as she tried to think of encouragement for her daughter, things she could say to her about not letting this get her down – but before she could get a word out, she said,“Daddy, I won two of the races! I had an advantage.” Ah. She must have been given a head start her mother thought…some kind of physical advantage. But again, before her mother could say anything, she said, “Daddy, I didn’t get a head start…My advantage was I had to try harder!” It's amazing how our perspective can really change the way we see things. Remember, never give up! We only break down when we think we are alone. Truth is the Waheguru is always with us so why fear? Tackle each problem with a smile and see how that task becomes easy! This is probably my last post for a while. I promise I will be back. It's been amazing here...I've learnt a lot from all of you! So much pyaar and gyaan...I don't have enough words to thank you all, especially PJS veerji and I Humbly Bow bhenji. Keep smiling, never lose faith and stay in Chardi Kala! Please do ardas for this moorakh that I don't fall weak aur jis karaj layi mai jaa rahi haan oh poora hove. Bye! Just a few more words from me before I go. Something for all of us to think about: - Dear God: I have a problem. Sometimes, it’s me. Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional. There is no key to happiness. The door is always open. Do the maths. Count your blessings. Faith is the ability to not panic. Laugh every day, it’s like inner jogging. If we worry, we probably didn’t pray. If we pray, we probably don’t worry. As a child of God, prayer is kind of like calling home every day. The most important things in our homes are the people. When we get tangled up in our problems, be still. God wants us to be still so He can untangle the knots for us. A grudge is a heavy thing to carry. We do not remember days, but moments. Life moves too fast, so enjoy your precious moments. Nothing is real to you until we experience it, otherwise it’s just hearsay. Surviving and living our life successfully requires courage. The goals and dreams we seek require courage and risk-taking. Learn from the turtle — it only makes progress when it sticks out its neck. Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.

  12. While at the park one day, a woman sat down next to a man on a bench near a playground. “That’s my son over there,” she said, pointing to a little boy in a red sweater who was gliding down the slide. “He’s a fine looking boy” the man said. “That’s my daughter on the bike in the white dress.” Then, looking at his watch, he called to his daughter. “What do you say we go?” “Just five more minutes, Dad. Please? Just five more minutes.” His daughter pleaded. The man nodded and she continued to ride her bike to her heart’s content. Minutes passed and the father stood and called again to his daughter. “Time to go now?” Again she pleaded, “Five more minutes, Dad. Just five more minutes.” The man smiled and said, “OK.” “My, you certainly are a patient father,” the woman responded. The man smiled and then said, “Her older brother was killed by a drunk driver last year while he was riding his bike near here. I never spent much time with him and now I’d give anything for just five more minutes with him. I’ve vowed not to make the same mistake with my daughter. She thinks she has five more minutes to ride her bike. The truth is, I get Five more minutes to watch her play.” Life is all about making priorities, what are yours? You never know when life will end. So make the most out of it! Love everyone around you and don't waste your life over maya!

  14. The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him, and every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming. Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him from the elements, and to store his few possessions. But then one day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, the smoke rolling up to the sky. The worst had happened; everything was lost. He was stunned with grief and anger. "God, how could you do this to me!" he cried. Early the next day, however, he was awakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching the island. It had come to rescue him. "How did you know I was here?" asked the weary man of his rescuers. "We saw your smoke signal," they replied. It is easy to get discouraged when things are going bad. But we shouldn't lose heart, because God is at work in our lives, even in the midst of pain and suffering. Remember, next time your little hut is burning to the ground it just may be a smoke signal that summons the grace of God. Everything happens for a purpose - when we are going through tough times, we too think "This is unfair! Why me God?" But then we soon realise the good that came out from that situation. It just takes time to understand sometimes! Raam Kavach Daas Kaa Sannahu, The Lord's protective spell is the armour of His Slave, Doot Dusat Tis Pohat Nahi, The wicked, evil demons cannot even touch him.
  15. When I was young, I once heard amazing katha by Prof. Santokh Singh Ji about the human nature of manipulation. He said an amazing poem to illustrate this which is still deep within my mind....powerful lines: Tindan Aaiyan Sakhaniya, Main Samajeya Apniya, Oh Aiyan Mai Gal Laiyan, Matlab Nikalaya, Mooh Pher Gaiyan. Oh Pher Aiyan, Mai Pher Gal Laiyan, Oh Pher Mooh Pher Gaiyan.............. Khoo diyan tindan is a water wheel. When the wheel is spun the buckets or the objects in which the water is supposed to be gathered hits the water in the well and brings out the water. This quote is from the perspective of the water where the tindan (sakhniyan meaning entirely empty) come down for water and once they are full they go back up. Notably, when they come down for the water, their face is facing the well but when they have got what they came for and go back up, they have their back towards the well. The well devotingly gives and gives and gives regardless of how many times the buckets come for the water and yet the buckets repeat the same thing over and over again. They keep taking and taking from the well and once they have the water, turn their back towards it. The same goes with us....we too use both people and Waheguru for our own selfish desires. Yet He gives and gives and gives in return for nothing......we take and take and then ignore Him. Guru Ji sacrificed everything for us and yet we can't even accept Guru Ji's most basic teachings. Imagine how Guru Ji must be feeling when he sees His children fighting amongst each other, hurting each other, using each other for personal gains? Like the well He too awaits us to come to Him. And just like the well, people who we have hurt are maybe also waiting for us to just go up to them and say sorry! Life is too short to waste and hold grudges against each other!!!
  16. Once there was a beautiful deer who spent each day prancing in the woods. Each day the deer noticed a wonderful smell. It smelt better than rain, it smelt better than flowers, in fact thought the deer, "I have never smelled anything so enchantingly wonderful! I wonder where that smell is coming from?!" She began to sniff around, "Sniff, sniff. Maybe this perfume is coming from inside the tree!" She ran over to the tree, but it just smelt like a normal tree. The deer tried everything, she chased and smelled everything she could find, "Is it coming from the butterflies?....hmmmm no not from them. I wonder if it's coming from the robin!....not there either. I doubt it but is it coming from the swamp? Oh! Noooo it's not coming from there. Hmmmm maybe it's coming from the ravine or maybe the bushes!" The scent wasn't coming from any of these things! The deer ran everywhere and started to get tired. She searched so hard but she didn't give up, "I'll find it, it's got to be coming from somewhere!" Even though she was really exhausted, she ran and ran. "My body can't keep up but I must find where that wonderful scent is coming from." Her body was slowing down but she kept trying and trying. Then finally she couldn't try anymore. Her body couldn't move anymore and she collapsed on the ground. When she fell on the ground, she wanted to search more but since her body couldn't move, she had to take a nap. Then all of a sudden she smelt something, "That's it! That's the scent! That's what I've been trying to find, It's right here! That's it for sure!" But where was it coming from? She instantly realized something very beautiful, "Oh my goodness! It's coming from within me. It's been 'right here' all along." That is how God is. People think that God is somewhere outside. They spend their whole life trying to find Him. But He is within us... never away from us... inside us.... and all around us. After searching and searching, we finally understand that the Lord of the Universe has been 'Right Here' all along. If you look carefully, you'll see Waheguru everywhere! In every leaf, corner and person......yet we ignore His beautiful creation and try to find Him outside....look within you...He's right there!!! Ik▫oaʼnkār saṯgur parsāḏ. Then all of a sudden she smelt something, "That's it! That's the scent! That's what I've been trying to find, It's right here! That's it for sure!" But where was it coming from? She instantly realized something very beautiful, "Oh my goodness! It's coming from within me. It's been 'right here' all along." That is how Waheguru is..people think He is somewhere outside and spend their whole lifetime trying to find Him....But....He is within us! Never away from us...inside us..and all around us. Ater searching and searching, we finally understand that the Lord of the Universe has been 'Right Here' all along. If you look carefully, you'll see Waheguru everywhere! In every leaf, corner and person......yet we ignore His beautiful creation and try to find Him outside......look within you.....He's right there!!!! Ik▫oaʼnkār saṯgur parsāḏ.
