The concept of avataar , as accepted in Hinduism has no relevence in Our Faith, as evident in various places in SGGS, specially at Ank 276,278,279 etc in Sukmani sahib , the word avtaar is used to mean rebirth of the Soul - like narak surag fir fir avtaar,(ank 278 ), -sant ki ninda nanka bhur bahur avtaar (ank 279) -Nanak naam bisariye narak surag avtaar (ank 298 thiti gauri) - De De lena le le dena narak surag avtar (ank 1243) So the concept of avtaars as incarnation of Almighty is not accepted as such in Gurmat, the puranic references wherever used by Guru Sahib ji , are used as examples to explain certain point of view only , without any more importance .
