  7. Hi Yoga Flame, Thanks for the warm welcome. The principles sound interesting and appear to have a good cause. I noticed some sikh men wear a turban around their heads. Can you advise what is the wisdom behind the turban? I think it is related to the purity of hair. As a sikh, are you allowed to cut your hair (both females and males)? Many thanks. BusinessLady You are right also the turban represents respectability, and was a sign of nobility. The symbolisms of wearing a turban are many from it being regarded as a symbol of sovereignty, dedication, self-respect, courage and piety but the reason all practicing Sikhs wear the turban is just one - out of love and obedience of the wishes of the founders of their faith. Sikhs men are women are not allowed to cut hair but you prob will see that most cut hair but this could be down to outside pressures. Society and/or family are affecting them. They have forgotten, or perhaps never understood in the first place, their identity as Sikhs. www.sikhnet.com is a site made by white american Sikhs which you might find use full
  8. Welcome to the forum Well.... Sikhism originated from Punjab India so most Sikhs are of Indian decent, but they are also a lot of White American Sikhs and they seem to be growing in my opinion. As for Sikhism in a nutshell would be that Sikhs believe in 1 Universal God, Naam Japna ( Meditating) Kirat Karni (Earning a honest living) Wand Chakana ( Sharing, Giving to Charity) Seva ( Serving Humanity ) If you have any questions im sure people can help answer your queries.
  9. Far as i am aware there is no Gurdwara within walking distance, there is Ramgaria Gurdwara close by which is prob 30 -40 min walk away (maybe longer)
  10. Guru Nanak Sahib made a prediction in Babar bani about the Mughals ਤਿਲੰਗ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ Tilang, First Mehl: ਜੈਸੀ ਮੈ ਆਵੈ ਖਸਮ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਤੈਸੜਾ ਕਰੀ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਵੇ ਲਾਲੋ ॥ As the Word of the Forgiving Lord comes to me, so do I express it, O Lalo. ਪਾਪ ਕੀ ਜੰਞ ਲੈ ਕਾਬਲਹੁ ਧਾਇਆ ਜੋਰੀ ਮੰਗੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਵੇ ਲਾਲੋ ॥ Bringing the marriage party of sin, Babar has invaded from Kaabul, demanding our land as his wedding gift, O Lalo. ਸਰਮੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਦੁਇ ਛਪਿ ਖਲੋਏ ਕੂੜੁ ਫਿਰੈ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ਵੇ ਲਾਲੋ ॥ Modesty and righteousness both have vanished, and falsehood struts around like a leader, O Lalo. ਕਾਜੀਆ ਬਾਮਣਾ ਕੀ ਗਲ ਥਕੀ ਅਗਦੁ ਪੜੈ ਸੈਤਾਨੁ ਵੇ ਲਾਲੋ ॥ The Qazis and the Brahmins have lost their roles, and Satan now conducts the marriage rites, O Lalo. ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨੀਆ ਪੜਹਿ ਕਤੇਬਾ ਕਸਟ ਮਹਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਖੁਦਾਇ ਵੇ ਲਾਲੋ ॥ The Muslim women read the Koran, and in their misery, they call upon God, O Lalo. ਜਾਤਿ ਸਨਾਤੀ ਹੋਰਿ ਹਿਦਵਾਣੀਆ ਏਹਿ ਭੀ ਲੇਖੈ ਲਾਇ ਵੇ ਲਾਲੋ ॥ The Hindu women of high social status, and others of lowly status as well, are put into the same category, O Lalo. ਖੂਨ ਕੇ ਸੋਹਿਲੇ ਗਾਵੀਅਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਤੁ ਕਾ ਕੁੰਗੂ ਪਾਇ ਵੇ ਲਾਲੋ ॥੧॥ The wedding songs of murder are sung, O Nanak, and blood is sprinkled instead of saffron, O Lalo. ||1|| ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਮਾਸ ਪੁਰੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਆਖੁ ਮਸੋਲਾ ॥ Nanak sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord and Master in the city of corpses, and voices this account. ਜਿਨਿ ਉਪਾਈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਵਾਈ ਬੈਠਾ ਵੇਖੈ ਵਖਿ ਇਕੇਲਾ ॥ The One who created, and attached the mortals to pleasures, sits alone, and watches this. ਸਚਾ ਸੋ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚੁ ਤਪਾਵਸੁ ਸਚੜਾ ਨਿਆਉ ਕਰੇਗੁ ਮਸੋਲਾ ॥ The Lord and Master is True, and True is His justice. He issues His Commands according to His judgment. ਕਾਇਆ ਕਪੜੁ ਟੁਕੁ ਟੁਕੁ ਹੋਸੀ ਹਿਦੁਸਤਾਨੁ ਸਮਾਲਸੀ ਬੋਲਾ ॥ The body-fabric will be torn apart into shreds, and then India will remember these words. ਆਵਨਿ ਅਠਤਰੈ ਜਾਨਿ ਸਤਾਨਵੈ ਹੋਰੁ ਭੀ ਉਠਸੀ ਮਰਦ ਕਾ ਚੇਲਾ ॥ Coming in seventy-eight (1521 A.D.), they will depart in ninety-seven (1540 A.D.), and then another disciple of man will rise up. ਸਚ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਖੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਣਾਇਸੀ ਸਚ ਕੀ ਬੇਲਾ ॥੨॥੩॥੫॥ Nanak speaks the Word of Truth; he proclaims the Truth at this, the right time. ||2||3||5||
  11. Facilities is a starter and secondly a nice atmosphere with nice people for them to take up such activities. The main problem is know one will support such initiatives in the community because lets face it Punjabi parents at most want their children to be academically smart and secondly committees want to keep the money for themselves, its an uphill struggle thats for sure.

    Cobra Dream

    The snake is from your last life and coming back for revenge, be sure to see it in your bed some time soon But seriously snakes usually represent hidden fears that you have. Are you scared of the snake in your dream? it could represent the fear of sex, intimacy or even commitment or it could be referring to a person around you who cannot be trusted.
  13. I have to agree with mskcan. Think more positive about yourself, i haven't had problem with girls not liking me because of a dastaar and dari. If you have a personality that stinks and are always negative about yourself, then of course a girl wont like you.
  14. I believe the 5 states that your talking about are A minds that is disturbed or always wandering. A mind that is dull or feeling sluggish. A mind that is distracted which has a certain lack of focus. A mind that is focused in one pointed concentration. A mind that you have control over and is perfectly still and in a state or sat chit anand.
  15. Well he apparently when to melas etc... and listened to music at those meleh. Apprently he fell for a women and had asked to marry her. And when confronted about with by Akali Phoola Singh about him going to such melas he replied " This is what us kings do" I think Akali Phoola Singh had stopped Maharaja Ranjit singh from doing some type of seva (not sure what) but eventually Maharaja Ranjit Singh Asked for maafi and was lashed 10 times i believe. The women had then said to Maharaja Ranjit Singh "you asked to marry me... i thought Sikhs dont go back on there word" To which Maharaja Ranjit Singh replied " your right a Sikh never goes back on his word, but i was never a Sikh when i had asked you to marry me... its only now after the lashes have i become a Sikh. My explanation might not be accurate or correct and might had missed things out but I had just heard this in katha from Baba Hardev Singh Lulo wale just last Sunday.
  16. Death is only the end of the physical body, the soul leaves and awaits for the next joon. Just like a person takes of his clothes and puts on new ones that is the same way the soul goes through different life forms. A person who has reached enlightenment will abandon his body at will and attain mahasamadhi.
