  1. Excellent news that our elder Gurdwara leaders are finally taking pro-active steps on these issues. First Sikh Council UK intervened in Sunderland and now midlands prabhandaks. If everyone plays their part, the disease of Gurdwara party halls will get eradicated very quickly.
  2. I guess the above guidance also applies to UK Sikhs in the same or similar contexts. First paragraph, for example, places like Ek Niwas which I understand in the past had Parkaash of Guroo Jee. Are there any more places like this? Second paragraph, for example, people continuing to print Bani on wedding cards, etc.
  3. The disappointing thing about Sikh Channel is that it is not guided by Gurmat as to what is right or wrong. It just follows those that make the loudest noise, with the typical Punjabi herd mentality. These people that are making incorrect Maryada statements are very scheming and try to get involved in all Panthic institutions. We can only counter them by the silent majority not staying silent, waking up and taking a stand. Everyone call Sikh Channel to complain.
  4. Completely agree. It was an excellent show. Well done Sangat TV! Sometimes, our elders/Sikh media are scared to discuss these issues as they know they are controversial and will offend people. Sorry, but burying our head in the sand only makes the issues worse. These are real issues which our Panth is facing TODAY. There's no point crying when things go wrong. Better to address these issues first. This can only happen through awareness.
  5. Completely agree with Singhstah. This will not damage Sikhs. It will only damage those that are weakening our Dharmic institutions by invoking caste.
  6. Same here - my sky plus messed up too. I think it might be because it was originally a 1 hr show, but then last minute pendoo changes meant it was a 1 hr 30 mins show. I caught the last few minutes of the live part, and they said it would be repeated at some point. Don't know when.
  7. They've got a scroll along the bottom of Sikh Channel which seems to confirm the above letter. I heard Ranjit Singh Rana has left Sikh Channel to join Sangat TV. This is very petty by Sikh Channel. Rather than complaining about the competition, they should make themselves stronger.
  8. I requested Admin to delete numerous posts last night, which they duly did, as they could lead to rumour and speculation as to motives as to why what happened as it did. There are numerous stories flying out there. Sarpanch has hinted at one of them in his post. I would request Admin to moderate such post so as to not get into details. Speculating until the truth fully comes out in the trial is not helpful for anyone. What we should reflect on at this stage is that 4 lives have been ruined, with all 4 families extremely badly affected. Our Veer Gagandip Singh, an extremely well-intentioned Panthic naujawaan has lost his life, and with that, the immense Sevaa he would have no doubt done for the Panth in the coming years. A lesson coming out of this for us youth: we need to beg Guroo Jee to bless with even more Bhagtee so as to protect us from the 5 Chor and to save us from this dark pit of Kaljug.
  9. On the one hand you say that we should wait for the trial, yet on the other you condemn those charged as guilty. Their guilt will be established as part of the legal process. The 3 accused cannot be classed as "murderers" just yet. That is for the jury to decide (unless any of the 3 plead guilty beforehand). Let justice take it's course. Completely agree.
  10. The issue is that legally, we have used Sikhs being an ethnic minority (like the Jews) to assert our legal rights, for example, in relation to the Dastaar, Kirpaan, Kara, etc, and the highest English court accepted this argument back in 1983 in Mandla vs. Dowell Lee. There has been much commentary on this case, that this was a fudge by the Law Lords to accommodate the Dastaar under the Race Relations Act (i.e., on ethnicity grounds), since English law doesn't fully protect (in my opinion) religious rights. Ideally, all religions should be treated with equal rights, but this is something that English law currently fails to do. Given that Sikhs are a recognised ethnic minority under law, we should use this to our advantage to fully claim the funding that other religions are claiming due to other political reasons (e.g., Muslims receiving funding to "de-radicalise" them).
  11. Southall Gursikh naujawaan need to step up NOW, create a Panthic platform, build a team and public awareness, to kick out all politicians with anti-Sikh, pro-Indian govt links. Your TWO years of work before the next election start NOW. Southall GurSikh youth should never let this kind of thing happen again to the biggest Gurdwara in the western hemisphere. Take inspiration from the naujawaan of Surrey BC.
  12. As far as I know from what one of the Singhs from Satkaar told me, the Sandesh has already been sent by post to each and every Gurdwara in the UK, and the Campaign has already been covered by the Sikh Channel, Sikh TV, Punjab Times, Des Pardes, the BBC, Panjab Radio and Sunrise TV. How much more exposure of the Sandesh do these committees need before they get the message? They've already got no excuses. Anyways, it's clearly logical to children of a small age that Gurdwaras should not be promoting meat, alcohol and parties, but these committees, even though they know better, are only interested in fulfilling their manmat desires. Another thing is (though I hope I'm wrong) people seem to be getting complacent and relying on Satkaar to sort these things out. It is each and every one of our's duty, as Guru's Sikhs, to ensure Satkaar. Not a pop at any one individual, but just a general point. We got to get the Satkaar agenda out there with the general sangat. If there is enough pressure on these committees, it will never need to come to a protest.
  13. Would we give up on justice if our (blood) mother or sister were raped, or if our (blood) father or brother were killed?
  14. Why is it in the above article that the Sikhs are called "radicals" and the Jhootae Saudae-Wale called "followers"? Clearly, govt inspired propaganda against Sikhs.
  15. No need to speculate jeeo. The truth will come out in good time. There's lots of things being "said" or "heard" outside this forum about what actually happened. This will not lead us to the truth. 99.999% of it is hearsay, with masala added here and there. Time will tell.
  16. I'm going to post something along the lines of what I wrote in the previous thread, ADMIN - please only allow tributes to Gagan Singh, or links to official news sources, such as the BBC or English press. I feel the thread may again be going into speculation and rumours. At this time, it must no doubt be hurtful to the sentiments of Gagan's friends and family, as well as the friends and family of those arrested and charged, to read these rumours and speculation. An extremely tragic event has taken place, which has shocked many as a lot of UK Sikh youth know the individuals involved. The best we can do for the next few days, at least, is to let things settle, let the investigation take its course, and let's do Ardaas for the Aatmik shaantee of our Veer Gagandip Singh. One further thing to note: certain people have been charged with murder. This is extremely serious. However, it does not mean that they are guilty. There is a presumption that they are innocent till proven guilty. Thankfully, the UK has an open and transparent legal system. We will know in due course as to what exactly happened and whether those accused are in fact guilty. Let justice take its course.
  17. Agree with the comment above. ADMIN - please only allow tributes to Gagan Singh. A lot of UK youth will know the individuals involved. At this time, it must no doubt be hurtful to the sentiments of Gagan's friends and family to read all these wild rumours and speculation, and some of the comments being made are extremely distasteful given the tragic events that have taken place, which are extremely shocking to us all. The best we can do for the next few days, at least , is to let things settle, let the investigation take its course, and let's do ardaas for the Aatmik shaantee of our veer Gagandip Singh.
  18. Finally managed to get through today after trying various times. A Granthi Singh answered the phone. He said that the committee members are now refusing to answer the phone. He said that many people had been calling all day. It's positive that they have had many phone calls from Gursikhs who have love for their Guroo Jee, and are taking personal responsibility for trying to stop this Beadbi. We all need to step up and realise that this is, as Guroo Jee's Sikhs, our Faraj/duty to Guroo Jee. We should keep calling so that they realise that they will not get away with using Guroo Jee's golak to subsidise their booze and meat fuelled parties. Sangat pressure here is clearly working. The fact that they are not answering, to me, shows that they are ashamed of their actions, know what they are doing is against Gurmat, but because of their hunkaar, are willing to continue doing this. Very sad state of affairs that their ego is so big, that they can't even keep it in check on an issue so blasphemous as this.
  19. We shouldn't be scared of libel law or be intimidated by the heavy hand of these committees trying to silence the truth. Libel law is only there to protect individuals against deliberate character assassination, malicious statements and lies written in bad faith, etc (well, this is in any case my take on the summary of libel law written on the Sahota Solicitors' website --> libel lawyers for the Dudley committee. Everyone should read it to know what their basic rights and obligations are). As long as we don't do this, and we express our freedom of expression responsibly, their libel lawyers can't do nothing, as this is a matter of legitimate concern for the wider Sikh Sangat. Also, our individual experiences are showing that the Dudley committee are lying to cover their tracks. Anyways, when I called yesterday, the person answering on the phone told me to call today as he said the President, Ajit Singh Sandhu, would be there during the day today --> note this sentence is not defamatory, as it's a FACT - this is what I was told. It's sad that some Gursikhs have told me that they won't post on this thread as they fear being sued. Khalsa Ji, as long as we tell the truth and write in good faith, I think we have every right to express our concerns against the Beadbi being perpetrated by the Dudley committee.
  20. What have our MPs got to do with it? They are elected to govern the UK. They can't be responsible for the actions of the Gurdwara Parbandhiks that "we" elect or put up with. If we don't want corrupt committees, it's up to each and every one of us, as Sikhs, to expose the Beadbi that is happening.
  21. Good post Balait. Guroo Jee says it all straight. Dhan Guroo Granth Sahib Jee. What are the Dudley committee going to do next? Take legal action against Guroo Jee for telling the truth?
  22. That's an excellent result. When I called, the channel mentioned that certain Gurdwara Presidents weren't happy with what was being said and so the show would not be repeated. It's encouraging that the sangat phoned in to the channel to show that these Gurdwara Presidents and self-appointed leaders are in a minority, and do not represent the UK sangat. It's good that the Sikh Channel listened to the sangat. It's great also that the UK sangat are waking up, recognising their responsibility to Guroo Jee and are being ACTIVE on issues of Satkaar for Guroo Jee. As individuals, we can't make a difference, but AS A COLLECTIVE SANGAT, no-one can stop us.
  23. This is ridiculous!!! Rather than changing their ways on the Beadbi they are doing, the Dudley committee are trying to silence the voices that criticise them. First it was complaining, as I understand it, against the Satkaar Campaign show on Sikh Channel, to now sending "pendoo game of lawyers letters" as my brother says above. They also told a pack of lies to the Panjab Times newspaper, in which they denied the hall had anything to do with the Gurdwara. This idea of silencing public criticism is very similar to what Hosni Mubarak, the dictator of Egypt did until the general public there finally had enough and stood up against him. I'm sure the sangat has had enough now of these corrupted committees who are more interested in pursuing their personal pleasures than promoting Gurmat. These corrupted committees should realise that the sangat has woken from their sleep, and will relentlessly challenge these committees until they get the change they want. which is that Gurdwaras are ONLY for promoting Gurmat and satkaar of Guroo Jee only - NOT meat, alcohol, egos, parties, personal rivalries, etc.
  24. I thought the show was excellent. The presenter, panel and audience all made very valid points. I disagreed with some of the points certain people made, but in the big scheme of things, this was minor compared to the bigger message conveyed. I thought the show gave the background to the Satkaar Campaign really well, i.e., the reason for having Satkaar for Guroo Jee. If we can change peoples' ideologies as to what a Gurdwara's about, they will themselves realise that meat and booze have no place in a Gurdwara. There has to be a combination of direct action/protests against corrupt committees and raising awareness/education in the general Sangat. The show did the latter very well, especially the non-amritdhari Penji that spoke with such emotion. I've been watching the youth show for the last few weeks now, and it really puts forward the youth viewpoint very well. Always very educational. There will no doubt be pressure by vested interests and corrupt committees to keep shows like this off the air. Off air, I've even heard one of the main presenters, a so-called Sikh "leader" make the comments that the youth are always divisive against elders and splitting the Panth. What a load of baloney!!! Why are these "leaders" so scared of saying the truth that Guroo Jee teaches us? Sikh Channel must continue by sticking to the truth. In the longer-term, this will be for the benefit of the channel.
  25. Seva? How is promoting the very things that are against Sikhi, Seva? Creating an environment in which there is meat and alcohol on Gurdwara premises is attacking the very core concepts of Sikhi. This is not Seva --> this is the very opposite. No matter how much else you do, you (the committee) will never be able to take the dharmic debt of being the ones that allowed and promoted meat and alcohol in a Gurdwara. The committee deserve no respect for this. This debt can be lifted if you realise your mistake and change your ways.
