  1. Sadh Sangat ji, what is the update on this petition, on the site it says only 11,539 signatures. daas's uncle wants to sign the petition, is this still important? Waheguru ji ka khalsa, Waheguru ji ki fateh!
  2. One important quality of Satguru is the authority to give Naam. Only Satguru can give/activate naam. Bhagat Kabir ji recieved naam through charun-pahul amrit from Guru Nanak Dev ji. We can only attach the word Satguru to 10 Guru sahiban and Guru Granth Sahib ji. Guru has a distinct status within Gurmat. We need to remember that it was Guru Nanak Dev ji who had the great and distinct honour of receiving Naam directly from Sachkhand. Also they bought dhur ki bani to the world. It was only through Satguru (Guru Nanak Dev ji) that bhagat Kabir ji uttered Gurbani. Gursikhs have upmost satkar for all bhagats whose bani is in Guru Granth Sahib ji. The vadiaee (greatness) of bhagat Kabir ji is beyond comprehension. They are the bhagat who have most bani in Guru Granth Sahib ji. Dhan Dhan bhagat Kabir ji!
  3. "Products these days are tampered quite a bit with why not use it as an incentive to make as many stuff up from scratch...much healthier to mind and body." Great advice GoKesh jeeo. The only problem with vitalite could be the e471 used in it. Anchor spreadable does not seem to contain any E-numbers and might be meat free but not 100% sure. It would be great if there was a panel of Gursikhs who could contact manufacturer's and do investigation into this. Again does the veg society logo guarantee that the e numbers have been derived from plant sources and not animal sources? Daas Onkar Singh
  4. Another problem I have found is that the E numbers used in margarine and other foods could also contain meat. Does the "suitable for vegetarians" sign guarantee that the the E numbers used in the food have not been derived from animal sources? So many foods seem to contain E numbers. http://www.vegsoc.org/page.aspx?pid=728 e471 is used in margarine although the box says "suitable for vegetarians"? Again the best way to ensure that we have a meat free diet is to cook our own food. Cooking our food is much healthier because we do not have to add preservatives, E numbers, additives e.t.c. Also I think it would be good if some Gursikhs could contact food companies to find out if the E numbers are derived from animal sources or not. Rabb Rakhe
  5. I have been doing research into margarines to see if they are vegetarian. Just found out that flora light contains pork http://www.florahear...Living/FAQ/Home: "The lower fat content of Flora Extra Light (18% fat) makes this “slow melt” more difficult to achieve – but we've found that using a small amount of pork gelatine allows us to get that result." Does the box say "suitable for vegetarians"? I guess the only way to stay clear of meat in our food is to maintain dietary bibek. It is a difficult and frustrating process to find which products contains meat and which are vegetarian. Does the logo "suitable for vegetarians" guarantee the product is meat free? Also doing research on cheddar cheese which may contains Rennet which is a form of meat although there is a Rennet that is apparentely vegetarian and sold by Tesco: http://realfood.tesc...egan-Diets.html It would be great if we could do some research on certain products that we eat daily to ascertain whether they are meat free. This would greatly help those Gursikhs who maintain a meat free diet. (please no arguments on whether maas is allowed or not in Sikhi, just suggestions and advice for those who don't consume maas) Daas Onkar Singh
  6. If you are taking amrit in a few days then definitely do not go to the ball. I have no idea of how a Gursikh can "have a dance and a good time enjoy yourself." A Gursikh does not derive pleasure from dancing, looking at the opposite sex or intoxicants. A Gursikh should live a spirtual life and derive pleasure from Gurbani paath, kirtan and Naam, once you chakk amrit you will finally be able to japp naam, the highest action and most rewarding. The more paath and kirtan you engage in before amrit sanchar the more rewarding it will be. Remember you have to look at things from a Gurmat perspective and not a worldy (manmukh) perspective. May Guru Sahib bless you with amrit and chardi kala! Waheguru ji ka khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh!
  7. Guru is right, period. The Rehit that Guru Gobind Singh ji gave to the panj piare when they created the Khalsa in 1699 is right/correct. Guru Sahib would not create multiple Rehits. It is not wrong to have a debate/discussion on Rehit. When debating, Gursikhs keep their emotions intact and do get angry or slander the other side. The SGPC was able to create a Rehit Maryada for the entire Panth by gathering the prominent Gursikhs, Jathebandis and Samprada's of that time to form a Rehit. In reality, most of the Rehits from different Jathebandis/Samaprada's are mostly the same. There are only a few differences here and their i.e. keski/kesh which is a non-issue because majority of the Panth agrees that both kesh and keski are mandatory. We should not be arguing about Rehit at the current time, more important issues face the panth.
  8. News from indianexpress: Will Badals act against DGP Saini now, asks Dal Khalsa A day after The Indian Express reported that a high powered committee has found that Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini and five other senior officers own parts of the village common land (shamlat/ mushtarkan malkan), the Dal Khalsa asked the state to clear its stand on the top cop. “Both Chief Minister PS Badal and his son and deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal should explain to the masses weather they will take action against the DGP or still feel that Saini is the best officer for top post,” the party asked. In a statement, party spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh said there never was a doubt about the tainted and controversial past of the Punjab DGP. “Saini never operated within the ambit of law while dealing with militants or the common man. Him violating the law of the land was never a secret, but the Badals didn’t want to see it,” Kanwar Pal alleged. Quoting the reported findings of high-powered committee set-up by the state government, he said not only the illegally occupied properties of these people should be vacated but they should also be prosecuted for making a mockery of the law. Pal said that such people had no right to remain in high offices. He also said that fair and proper action would not be possible so long as these people continue to hold offices. 9. daas agrees with Khalistaan-Zindabaad ji, We should not cancel subscriptions to Sikh Channel. There are positives and negatives from both channels, however they are all we have in terms of sikh television channels. Look at the role of the media in bhai balwant singh ji rajoana's case as well as news from ludhiana incident. We got direct footage from sri Akal Takht when they issued hukkamnama fro bhai Balwant Singh ji, the whole Sikh panth could watch proceedings from their living rooms. Now we need some good Gursikhs with good grasp of Gurmat and good Gursikhi jeevan to come on the shows and do parchar of Gurmat. Banning certain parcharaks will mot work, lets go on these talk shows and debate them. We can defeat anti-panthic forces.
  10. So can anyone confirm if this letter authentic or not?
  11. This is a very important issue, Thanks for GSingh ji for creating this post. Since the first pothis were written of Gurbani to the formation of the Aad Granth (Kirtarpuri Bir likhari was bhai sahib bhai gurdas ji and dictated by Guru Arjan Dev ji) to the Damdami Saroop (Guru Granth Sahib ji that was given Guruship by Guru Gobin Singh ji and likhari was shaheed bhai mani Singh ji), bani was in Larivaar format ie all words were joined up. Then for at least 200 years all the handwritten saroop of Guru Granth Sahib ji were in Lareevar format, you will not find 1 saroop that was handwritten that had separated words (pad ched). Then in the early 1900s, I think it was the SGPC had the audacity to seprate the words of Gurbani and create the pad ched saroop that is now installed in nearly every Gurdwara worldwide bar ithihaasak Gurdwara's such as sri Darbar Sahib that still to this day does parkash of only lareevar saroop and this ia also a hand written one.) Our Guru Sahibaan could have easily created a pad ched saroop if they wanted, this would have been no problem. But our Guru Sahibaan chose not to seperate the words and write on only in Lareevar (joined up format). I think it is ok to have pad ched gutka of Gurbani for beginners however a saroop of Guru Granth Sahib should be lareevar only. Bhai Randhir Singh ji and I have read that Sant Samaj of that time urged the panth to print/write only lareevar Guru Granth Sahib's.
  12. Good letter by bhai Balwant Singh ji, he has raised an important point: Singh Saheb Ji, if the BJP Leader Advani is proud of his party’s support in the attack on Sikhs, then another Hukamnamma should also be released to order Sikhs to refrain from any relation with the BJP as well. No Sikh should affiliate themselves with such biased parties. Only in this manner, is it possible to reveal the anger in the Sikh hearts to the attackers on the Sikh Panth and the allies and supporters. I would like to request to also instruct the current Akaali Government to remove DGP Sumedh Singh Saini from his position, who is guilty of having played ‘holi’ with the blood of hundreds of Sikh youth. The Jathedar should call for the immediate removal of Sumedh Saini and also punish the Parkash Singh Badal for making an alliance with Advani who supported the attack on the Golden Temple. However the current Jathedar only has praise for Parkash Singh Badal and even bestowed him with the pride-of-the-panth award. The Akal Takht Jathedar should not support a CM that supports advani and appoints an enemy of Sikhs (Sumedh Saini) to the head of police. Will the current Jathedar of Akal Takht take action, will they issue a hukkanama to Akali Dal Badal to break ties with Advani? Will the Akal Takht Jathedar issue hukamnama callinf for the immediate removal of Sumedh Saini? Please listen from 8:45 onwards fro info on Saini. More info on Saini - http://www.panthic.org/articles/5416
  13. This is a great post. Some may think it is only AKJ or Nihangs that keep Sarbloh Bibek, but this Rehit has been kept by many other Gursikhs. It is clear that the level of Rehit in the Sikh Panth is declining. The 2 main points that the Sikh Panth needs to focus on is dietary bibek and the parkash of lareevar Guru Granth Sahib in all gurdwaras. Satguru Mehar Karan.
  14. I respect bhai Hari Singh ji Ranhdawa and have listened to his katha when he has visited England, they possess a lot of gyaan. I am confused in respect to Sant Samaj's alliance with Parkash Singh Badal, I would like to get bhai Hari Singh ji's opinion of Badal and if he is aware of the anti-panthic activities of Badal ie appointing Sumedh Saini to DGP and visiting jootha Sauda leader. I think it would be a good idea to show picture of Badal visiting jootha sauda which is easily available on google images. Remember, Badal controls media in Punjab. Maybe Sant Samaj are unaware of his various anti-panthic activities.
  15. No doubt Taksal mahapurakhs kept dietary Bibek including Sant Kartar Singh ji and Sant Gurbachan Singh ji. Dietary bibek is practiced within Akhand Kirtani Jatha, Nihangs and Damdami Taksal. The only difference is in the level of bibek, the strictness varies ie eating only from armitdharis, eating only from sarbloh utensils and those who keep sarbloh rehit or not eating from outside i.e. resturaunts. What has happened is that slowly Gursikhs have gotten weaker in regards to Rehit, over time the level of Rehit has declined - in all Jatha's. In the times of Sant Gurbachan Singh ji and bhai Randhir Singh ji both Jatha's were much stricter in in Rehit ie dietary bibek, lareevar gurbani etc. Many Gursikhs around the world still maintain dietary rehit including Sarbloh, dhan are those Gursikhs. Quote: It usually singh sabha type mindset/mindset aligned with bhausaria mentality have allergy to word " advait vedant' just because it has hindu connations because of advait vedant spiritual order by adi shankarcharya and bharma devta receiving mahavaks of vedant at the end of vedas. This is not the case. Gursikhs have described the uniqueness of Gurmat compared to other mats ie Vedant through Gurbani. It is incorrect to say that Singh Sabha have "allergy" to Hinduism. Was it not Giani Ditt Singh ji who challenged and beat Arya Samaj leader in a debate? Also bhai Vir Singh ji has written a book on the uniqueness of Guru Nanak Dev ji compared to other avtars and prophets. Both of these great Gursikhs were from Singh Sabha and widely respected by the panth. They proved the uniqueness of Gurmat through Gurbani, they did not have an allergy or bias towards Hinduism. It is true that some have hindu-phobia which is wrong. However just because one is of the opinion that Gurmat is unique and superior to other mats does not mean that they have "allergy" or bias towards Hinduism.
  16. In the current climate, the asar (effect) of maya and panj chor is very strong. It is incorrect to believe we can reach a spiritual avastha (state)which allows us to wear expensive/flashy clothes and ignore/disregard certain Rehits. Infact it is more important than ever to strive and obey all the Bachan's (instructions) of Guru Sahib that we can. These Rehits of Guru Sahib will protect us from the Panj Chor (5 thieves) which is vitally important for spiritual progress. Wearing jewellery, make-up, expensive/flashy clothing etc could increase haume (ego) and attack from the panj chor. Why give panj chor the chance to steal your spiritual kamai (savings)? We must strive to keep our bank accounts safe and the best way to this is to maintain Rehit. Sufi mat is different from Gurmat. If some Sufi's believe that sharia ie Rehit can be discarded after certain spiritual state then that is their thinking however Gurmat does not endorse this concept. Rehit is to be kept from Amrit Chakk (initiation) until death. (Also I believe it is only the minority of Muslims, mostly Sufi's, that believe in the concept of discarding sharia after attaining certain level. The majority of Shia and Sunni Muslims believe in following Sharia strictly until death.) May Guru Sahib bless this insect with his Rehit and his Naam. Satguru Mehar Karan.
  17. Here is Taksal views on jewellery taken from damdamitaksaal.org: All the initiates are to have their beards flowing and not tied up in anyway. Their turbans are to have been tied one layer at a time (not placed on their heads like a hat). The turban is to be saffron, blue, black or white. The male initiates should not be wearing trousers/pyjama, watches or any jewellery. The female initiates are not to have any jewellery on their hands, in their ears/nose and their hair is to be in a bun/top knot and not in plaits, they should maintain this simplicity of dress and attire for the rest of their lives. Singhs/Singhni’s are not to wear rings, ear-rings and other jewellery, Satguru Jee says: Guru Jee says your jewellery is Naam, Which will be of assistance at your time of death." (SGGSJ Ang 375) In the next world only the jewellery of Naam is of assistance, worldly jewellery is of no avail. The bride is not to wear any jewellery and make-up. Bindi and the wearing of sarees is not allowed The male initiates should not be wearing trousers/pyjama, watches or any jewellery. The female initiates are not to have any jewellery on their hands, in their ears/nose As per Rehit of Damdami Taksal jewellery is strictly prohibited. I do not understand this point about Sikh Royalty. It does not matter whether you are a king or a dishwasher, Rehit is same for all. No worldy king can change Guru Sahib's Rehit. Their is only one king dhan sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. Quote: gurmat does not dictate nor it meant to dictate nitty-gritty daily kriya of an sikh things like- a) put left leg or right leg into new kachera b) putting kirpan right or left shoulder c) length of dastar d) use sand to clean yourself e) how to clean your sarbloh batta f) how to sharpen your shastar g) positioning of chand tora or khanda in dastar h) when to smile when not to smile i) specific attitudes towards monaey, other amritdharis than from your clan etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc..hopefully you will get the point. Taksal Rehit states: The Kashera is never to leave your body completely i.e. stepping out of it with both your legs. After doing Ishnaan, one half of the wet Kashera is to be removed from one leg and a dry clean Kashera is to be put on that leg, and similarly for the other leg. If the Kashera does leave the body by accident, then you are to approach "Five Singhs" who will do Ardas for you and give you a punishment. If the Kangha, Kirpan and Kara leave the body you can do an Ardas yourself, but if the Kashera leaves the body only "Five Singhs" can do the Ardas. The Kashera is never to be changed whilst your head is uncovered. There is a lot of "black and white" in Gurmat. Rehit is black and white, Rehit creates the foundation for the Gursikh, with a solid foundation a Gursikh can reach higher levels of spirituality. It is not right to right to question Rehit like this, many Gursikhs such as Sant Gurbachan Singh ji and bhai Randhir Singh ji were very strict in regards to Rehit. We cannot fully comprehend the Rehit of Guru Sahib but Rehit is essential for a Gursikh. Following Rehit to the max does not mean one comprises on thier spirituality infact if one follows Rehit to the maximum their spirituality, anand, rass etc will only increase. I am kurbaan to those that follow Guru Sahib's Rehit such as sarbloh, bana, bibek etc Dhan are those Gursikhs!
  18. "You may even come back online, but just remember regardless of your reasoning to come back, ultimately everyone (jaigaso/student on the path) will have to realize anything which stops one from doing naam abhyaas and remember vahiguroo at all times is a hindrance and its better to pull plug off any hindrance during our atma journey to merge back to paratma." Great advice and such a high ideal. Maya is basically anything that causes us to forget God. To remember God (yaad karna) is hukam of Guru Sahib. How to remember God - Naam Simran. Avoiding Maya, those things that cause us to forget God, is extremely hard. However it is imperative that we make an effort to remember God as much as we can, we can do this by getting baptized - amrit chakk, keeping Rehit, reading Gurbani, singing the praises of God - kirtan and doing simran (repitition/meditiation) of Naam (naam is obtained from Panj Pyare during Amrit Sanchar - Sikh Baptism). Writing and talking is easy but Sikhi is about action. The more one engages in meditation, the closer one gets to God and that person becomes a better Gursikh. Rabb Rakhe
  19. I am sure there are countless Gursikhs that have genuine pain in their legs and other disabilities but do not make a fuss and happily sit in darbar sahib for extended periods of time. There are many bazurgs (old people) that can sit in front of Guru Granth Sahib for hours on end. I guess it comes down to our personal connection with Guru Sahib. If we are listen to Gurbani Paath and Kirtan with focus and pyaar (love) we will not feel pains or aches in our bodies.
  20. The SRM (Sikh Rehit Maryada) http://sgpc.net/reha...e_chap_four.htm states: THE CODE OF SIKH CONDUCT AND CONVENTIONS Section Three CHAPTER IV Joining the congregation for understanding of and reflecting on Gurbani Article V n. Sitting on a cushion, a distinctive seat, a chair, a stool, a cot, etc. or in any distinctive position in the presence of the Guru Granth Sahib or within the congregation is contrary to Gurmat(Guru's way).
  21. Please visit todays edition of Ajit newspaper (19th April) - http://newspaper.ajitjalandhar.com/ As you can see on the front page top right hand corner Parkash Singh Badal is sitting on a chair infront of dhan sri Guru Granth Sahib ji while the Akal Takht Jathedar is doing the paath. This is the second time Badal has done this http://panthic.org/articles/5003 For me, one has to be genuinely disabled in order to sit on a chair infront of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. What is most distressing is that Akal Takht Jathedar has no problem with this. At this current time we need a Jathedar that will lead the Sikh Panth. We do not need a supporter of Parkash Singh Badal as our leader in my opinion. I can never imagine Sant Jarnail Singh ji allowing someone to sit on a chair in the presence of sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. The maryada in the Sikh Panth is getting weaker and weaker. At this current time Akal Takht Jathedar should be asking Badal about why inocent Sikh's are rotting in jail, why the Punjab police behave like thugs, why he has appointed Sumedh Saini to DGP etc. Akal Takht Jathedar should not talk again to Badal until at least shaheed bhai Jaspal Singh ji's killers are brought to justice. I do not know why our Sikh leaders are silent infront of Badal.
  22. Bhai Pal Singh ji is a chardi kala Gurmukh. What is so distressing about this story is that bhai Pal Singh is in jail yet allegedly we have a "panthic sarkar" in Punjab. Sikhs have suffered so much under the Badal regime. There should be a massive lehar (movement) for bhai Pal Singh ji and other prisoners who have been illegally detained in jail just like there was for bhai Balwant Singh ji. It is the farz (duty) of Akal Takht Jathedar to be proactive and make statements calling for the release of innocent individuals. Unfortunatley the problem is that the SGPC have great influence over the Jathedar and the SGPC is run by Akali Dal Badal. That is why we will not see strong action taken by the Akal Takht Jathedar. A Sarbat Khalsa (gathering of the entire Sikh Panth) needs to be organised in which we can reclaim the authority of Akal Takht and get justice for Sikhs. Guru Sahib Kirpa Karan! We have to realise that under Akali Dal or Congress we will never get justice. It is time for the Sikh Kaum to break all ties with these political parties and instead follow the bachans of Guru Sahib. If all Sikhs strive to follow the bachans of Guru Sahib we will get Raaj and Justice in no time. It is imperative that we chakk amrit, keep rehit, read Gurbani and also follow the bachans of Gurbani. It is just great that bhai Pal Singh ji is doing kirtan and nitnem. It is Gurbani and Simran that gives Gurmukhs the ability to overcome difficult situations with ease. Dhan Gurbani! Dhan Naam! Dhan Satguru! SOPW are doing great seva.
  23. "but guys, then wat about kalki avtar or the possible return of guru gobind singh (i think) that ppl talk bowt. also when will there b 96 crore (960m) khalsa in the world? any ideas gang? Also i dont understand, so we DONT believe in the world ever ending or do we?" RebelSingh ji, Of course we believe in the end of the world. There is a pankti in Gurbani that says everything that we see with our eyes will finish/end ang 723: Banḏe cẖasam ḏīḏaʼn fanā▫e. O human being, whatever you can see with your eyes, shall perish. However the soul remains. When we expire our soul may be transferred to another kharam bhoomi and again our karams (actions) will be judged. Ultimately we want to meet Akal Purakh. Only those who have done enough kamai (work) i.e. simran of Naam, Gurbani Paath and keep Rehit will have darshan (sight) of Akal Purakh. Our dharam does not preach waiting for a messiah to save us. In fact we have to save ourselves. Nobody else can do the hard work for us. People are mentioning sri Guru Gobind Singh ji returning but do we not already have a Guru? Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji gave the gaddi of Guruship to dhan dhan sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. We already have a living Guru. We are not awaiting a messiah to deliver us, the messiah is already here, it is called Gurbani. If Guru Gobind Singh ji does return that does not mean we will automatically go to Sachkhand or get mukhti (liberation). If sri Guru Gobind Singh ji does return than we better be the best Gursikhs we can be ie tons of Gurbani paath, Naam Simran and keeping Rehit, abstaining from 4 bajjer kurehits (4 cardinal sins) and giving Daswandh (10% of earnings). With the kirpa (grace) of Akal Purakh we can meet our Preetam Pyara.
  24. Remember our dharam is different to semitic religions (Islam, Christianity and Judaism). They are more concerned with end times theories because it has a lot of importance for them. Christians and Muslims believe in a final day called the day of judgement in which the dead will be raised and judged according to their actions and then sent either heaven or hell. All three semitic religions are also waiting for a messiah or the mahdi or the return of Jesus. The return of the messiah I believe will take place in the end times I believe. However, Gurmat does not mention the end times. Gurmat believes in the reincarnation of the soul. We are not awaiting a messiah to lead us or the end times. This age is known as Kaljug (dark age). This age will be difficult especially those that for those that desire to walk on the path to God. The union between the soul and God takes place within. Our messiah is already here, dhan dhan sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. We should adopt Guru Granth Sahib ji as our Guru through which we can realise our dream of meeting Akal Purakh. If the world does end that does not mean the end of us. This is not the only world in the universe, there are countless worlds like this, they are called karam bhoomi's - areas in which the actions are judged. Our soul cannot be destroyed, it will be transferred to another life form depending on our past actions. Whether the world is going end in 5 years or 5 billion years our ultimate goal of meeting with our Dyaal Purakh Meharvaana (the Merciful all pervading Lord) remains the same. We must strive to make as much spiritual progress in this life as possible. If the world is going to end soon then we must do as much simran and Gurbani paath as possible. Ultimately, we will all have to go to the court of sri Dharam Rai. Lets fill up our bank accounts with Naam and Gurbani. Satguru Mehar Karan!

    Issue With Beard

Brother "Bul" ji, All I can say is that keeping you dhari (beard) will be the best decision you will make. When you get older you will not regret keeping your dhari. I suggest reading as much Sikh history as you can. Remember all of our Guru Sahibaan, from Guru Nanak Devi ji to Guru Gobind Singh ji kept their kes (hair). All the great Gursikhs from the Guru's time, all of them, kept kes (hair) - baba Buddha ji, baba Deep Singh and in modern times bhai Jarnail Singh ji Bhindranwale, bhai Amrik Singh ji and look at the effect of bhai Balwant Singh ji Rajoana on the Sikh Panth. This period in our youth is a test. At this age, we can be easily swayed towards maya (worldy illusion). However if you remain strong through this period and keep your kes you will reap the benefits in the future. You have no reason to feel uncomfortable with your dhari. Read our history and I can guarantee your confidence will increase. Do not listen to the world, listen to Guru Sahib, listen to shaheed bhai Taru Singh ji - http://www.sikh-hist.../tarusingh.html Satguru Mehar Karan!
