  2. First of all what country are you in?

Secondly, from first hand experience I know how disheartening it can be when you discover a sibling may have problems in learning. Has she been statemented or has she been diagnosed? My younger brother also has problems namely dyspraxia, moderate learning difficulties and sensory motor co-ordination problems. He was also very reserved, had no confidence, didn’t make friends quickly and in terms of mile stones he was behind his age group when in nursery and still is.

His teachers recommended we place him in a different school where they have a wider resource base in regards to helping children with such problems. Looking back, I think if he stayed on in nursery an extra year it might have been better for him, but on the other hand, his problems are on-going so there is no quick fix solution to them.

If you feel that school is best for your sister then you can refute the opinion of your doctor. Schools are clued up on this sort of stuff and can give children loads of support. If need be she can have extra help outside the mainstream classroom for a couple of hours a day and also go for occupational therapy if it is needed. If the school is not supportive then perhaps you can get in touch with a social worker or someone from the local education authority at the council (depending on the laws of your country) and seek advice. Alternatively, you can look at other schools where they support pupils with learning problems.

If any of the above has caused you offence, I apologise, I know this is a sensitive issue.

Also I want you to know that you are not alone, and your encouragement, love & Ardaas will all help her immensely.

    All the best.

  7. Chocolate brownies…

    • 60 g all-purpose flour (plain)

    • 355 ml water

    • 170 g butter

    • 85 g unsweetened cocoa powder

    • 600 g caster sugar

    • 8 ml vanilla extract

    • 375 g all-purpose flour (plain)

    • 15 g baking powder

    • 5 g salt

    • 100 g chopped walnuts or choc chips ( I usually use the white ones – makes a nice contrast

with the darkness of the brownies) or sultanas etc this ingredient is optional and you can mix and match as well

first off pre heat your oven to 175 degrees C and grease a 9x13 inch baking tray, make sure it’s a deep baking pan because the brownies will rise

place the 60g of flour in a saucepan, add the 355mls of water and stir on a medium heat. Keep mixing until it has formed a smooth thick paste…remove from heat and place to the side to cool down and pour into a big mixing bowl

in another saucepan melt the 170g of butter remove from heat and add the 85g of cocoa, mix it until it’s all smooth

then add the sugar and vanilla essence into the cooled mixture of flour and water that you prepared 1st

then add the cocoa and butter mixture

then add the 375g of flour, baking powder and salt

mix all the ingredients together well, and add any optional ingredients such as choc chips

pour mixture into baking tray, spread evenly, note mixture is quite thick but it’s all good, should not be runny

place in oven and should be ready in about 20-25 mins (do the tooth pick test – i.e. insert tooth pick into middle if it comes out clean then brownies are made)

remove from oven and allow to cool

when cooled you can pour melted chocolate on top and spread or use a chocolate icing - again optional

cut the brownies into squares and enjoy!!

*it is ideal to sift all the flour, cocoa powder sugar etc as to avoid lumps!

** also it is ideal to convert the 5g of salt and 15g of baking powder to teaspoons as it’s easier to measure out

***note brownies can be kept in fridge for about a week or so

****also if you think they’re a bit “chewy” it’s normal, brownies are not like traditional softer sponge cakes

I baked these the other week for AkaalSeva-EL when he blessed me at home with his darshan d_oh.gif , so you can ask him if they were any good! :D

    Peach Cobbler

Another easy pudding thing to make is peach cobbler, if you’re not a fan of peaches you can substitute them for another fruit! You can use fresh or tinned fruit…

    Ingredients

    • 1 stick (4 ounces) butter, melted

    • 1 cup plus 3 tablespoons granulated sugar, divided

    • 1 cup all-purpose flour (plain)

    • 2 teaspoons baking powder

    • 1/4 teaspoon salt

    • 1 cup milk

    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    • 3 to 4 ripe peaches, peeled, pitted, thinly sliced

    • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

    Heat oven to 375°.

    Melt the butter

Pour melted butter into 11x7 or 8-inch square baking dish - deep clay one is the best

In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of the sugar, 1 cup flour, baking powder, and salt; mix to blend.

Stir in 1cup milk and vanilla until blended.

Pour the batter over the melted butter.

Toss the peaches with the remaining 3 tablespoons of sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon.

Arrange the peach slices over the batter.

Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or do toothpick test

When checking in on your cobbler it might look like nothing is going to come of it but don’t worry, just put it back in the oven a bit longer.

The top should be browned and the cake will begin to pull away from the sides of the pan.

Serve warm with a little whipped topping, or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

  8. Apologies if this has been discussed before, but I could not see a previous topic

Was just wondering if anyone else had seen the 2 part documentary on BBC1 yesterday evening and Wednesday evening, If so what did you make of it?

For those of you who missed it you can see the 1st part here 1st part

and the 2nd part here 2nd part

Vaheguru, it's proper messed up, in the 1st one the father killed his 3 young children with a rounders bat and in the 2nd one the father set fire 2 his house killing his wife and 4 daughters (4 or 3) but he later also died from his injuries. Also in the 2nd one a littly 6yr old girl died because someone petrol bombed their house, her brother seemed like a right doofus!! :s watch it and you will understand! But whatever he did it's no excuse for people to behave like maniacs!! :D

Thins kind of stuff makes me sick :D also this guy was talking to me at work he is of afro/carribbean (sp?) descent and he was like this kind of thing makes us all wary of asians in general and we end up creating stero types and tarnishing everyone with the same brush

  9. lol@above replies :s

:kid: - this emoticon is so like my lil bro hehe, i knw wht u mean about the ?'s they ask! my fave 1 2 date is him askin "what colour turban does God wear?" And when you ask him "why are you so cheeky?" he's like "God made me cheeky that's why" hehe and most recently i was bugging him like pulling his cheeks and he turns around n says "ahh mein bhaji (as in my fiance) nu dasna tere naal viah na kereh emi menu staundi rehndi aa  :<Edited>:" haha i pmsl

  11. I think sometimes we read too much into stuff like this. There can sometimes be a valid reason for getting paid for example imagine someone is poor/can’t get work/has a family to support/bills (and so on…) and it might be the Gurdwara’s prerogative to give that person a paid job like you mentioned to teach keertan so they can share their knowledge and help others and at the same time earn a bit of money to help themselves!

Also I went to Punjab this summer and at our local Gurdwara in our area people are paid to carry out seva such as Parshaad Seva and cooking Langar seva simply because there is no one else to do it! So obviously here the money is an incentive to get these people (usually the poorer people) to come and do the seva else it would not get done at all.

Sikhi is about kirt kamai, and if these people are earning an honest living by teaching keertan, Gurbani Santhiya and so on through a GuruGhar it’s still classed as a job in my opinion, so it works both ways, instead of judging people and saying it’s right or wrong we should try to understand the situation.

  12. not surprised to be quite honest!! i used to work there couple months ago and all i can say is ummmmmmm :umm:

so ya i hope that sums it up!!

and yeah the guy who is like one of the heads (uk base) in deciding what is aired etc in regards to songs/music videos is a bit of a clown!!! the amount of times we yelled and stuff over issues is countless. he's the son of some high rank police dude in india and he thinks the governments actions in 84 were justified and he laughs at anyone who takes Sikhi seriously (he thinks it not neccesary in this day and age) and also anyone who supports khalistan or even sympathizes with the human right atrocities etc i think i will stop there before i end up quoting him on some of his so called beliefs!!!

    hit.gif

  13. awwww it's all good! there may be some underlying reason for your fear! don't fret, most people have phobias of some sort! just to make you feel better (whilst in the process of causing severe embarassment to myself) i'll tell you about my fear - dogs!!!

haha and the weird thing is i want one!! its 'cus when i was like about 6yrs old i got scratched up by this dog and this other huuuuuge dog jumped into our car when i was sitting in the back haha so like ya since then i've had this fear, and just the other day i was at work talking to a police officer and this dog came and i literally just grabbed him (the police officer) and linked his arm in mine and was making him spin around so the dog was on his side and not mine  rolleyes.gif i'm such a doofus!!! he must have thought i was a right plank as well lol well i hope you feel a bit better lol just think they're only mushrooms hey at least they won't attack you!! eat one, you might like it!

  14. LOL it depends on how hardcore yours sister is lol..I'm off in a few days!

lol you got your nihang singhs backin u up! LOL.gifv1.gif
