I have a question for the sangat.

I have been asked to go to our head office in France to complete some work but i am concious about travelling due to the dastar issues at airports etc.

I was wondering how the Singhs travelled to France for the smagam end of last year and did they encounter any problems?

My options are to travel by plane, eurostar or via car using the channel tunnel and i want to know which is the most hassle free and will allow me the freedom to travel without issues of kirpan and dastar.

Hopefully someone will be able to reply.

Its a bit late to start a petition? I mean, we had 7yrs... To petition less then 10days wont achieve anything.

You will be better of doing ardaas to maharaj india are not able to repair the problems with the village and then most countries will pull out anyway - Watch the news, UK and Scotland give more concern to their athletes residence then to the state or political affairs of the country.

    To: British Government

26 Years on, when over 20,000 Sikhs were massacred on the street of India's national Capital, New Delhi. We as citizens of United Kingdom stand hurt and dismayed at how the English and Scottish teams can be allowed to participate in the Commonwealth games in a city where thousands of innocent people were killed and those responsible have still not been brought to Justice.

Furthermore, the last time the Asian games where held in India in 1982, Sikhs were categorically banned from entering the city of New Delhi, simply to stop Sikhs from democratically voicing their concerns to the world about how they are being mistreated in India and to stop the world from knowing about the Human rights abuses being carried out by the Indian Establishment.

We call on the British Government to official withdraw all National teams from the Commonwealth games and refuse to support any such International event from being awarded to India until it changes its attitude in Human Rights and protects the minority communities within India.

    Sincerely,

  3. Literally just wrap it around your head, that's why a keski is really easy.it doesn't matter whether it's 'neat' or not as you are only going to sleep. The tricky bit, sort of, is starting it. I personally put the start of the keski vertically over my joora so that the rest of it is infront of my face, then just wrap it around.

It may take some practice, and look a bit 'different' but it feels so much better sleeping knowing that you are 'tidy' lol.

Its the same as tying a dastar except its generally alot smaller - maybe 3 - 5 lars and you keep your ears out.

There used to be a video on "Sikhnet" titled "tying a House turban" or something along those lines... They used to have a few videos on tying different dastars.

    If it helps...

    Gurfateh Ji,

Any clue on the time it will go live? also what is the channel number? I couldnt see this information on the website.

    Thanks.

  5. Look Gursikh Pyaria, Dont you think we all know that??

Veer ji, You don't seem to know much about what the youth have tried/are trying to do to get rid of meat and sharaab from the external hall which is 1/4 mile away from the Gurdwara. Your above opinion means nothing to me. Come to the Gurdwara and speak to the Sevadaars and you will see what they have tried already to get rid of the problem and YOU can maybe suggest other ways of trying to remove the problem.

I will let the sevadaars know that another Gursikh Pyarah has got worked up about the problem ( the same problem we have been fighting to get rid of ever since we knew it was happening again) but has also pushed reponsibility onto someone else and wants nothing to do with helping the sangat with the issue

Shame you cant come to the camp Bhaaji, I would liked to have discussed this with you in person as these internet forums don't solve much

BTW the mahaan kirtan darbar has Jack all to do with the sevadaars/sangat at the Gurdwara. It was a family programme organised by one person

Vaheguru ji Ka Khalsaaaa Vaheguru Guru je Ke Fat-Hehhh

Gaj ki Jakaaraa bolaaveh Nihaaal ho Javeh ...Sat Sri Akaaaaaaluh

This is the same crap given by camp organisers all the time.

Why cant you organise camps in places that do not own halls that run ANTI-GURMAT practices?

When i went to Khalsa Camp for the First and LAST time, we confronted organisers about the onsite bar. We were told we should look at our own jeevans before commenting.

Sorry, but the sandesh and previous hukham from akaal takht says Gurdwara premises should not include or support any NON GURMAT maryada.

By holding your camp at this gurdwara indirectly supports it.

I have been putting off for the last 3yrs travelling to my company head office in France due to the ban of the Dastar in schools etc.

Now, i need to go as i must work with a colleague on a big project and working my phone / email and video conference is not sufficient.

I am waiting for approval of my travel but wanted to know if anyone has travelled recently and had any problems with dastar at the airport etc.

If you could reply asap, it would be much apprecaited.

    Thanks.

I have heard that you need special pass to do sewa inside Harimandir sahib in morning from 1am to 3am.

Is it possible for nor mal person to do that sewa

or how can i make the pass

    WJKK WJKF

If you mean the seva of washing darbar sahib, normally starts around 12.30 i think from memory and you dont need a pass.

    The only requirement is:

    Your Amritdhari male

    You have a dhari

    You do not wear pajama

I think the same rules apply to Akaal Takht Sahib to but with Akaal Takht Sahib, Bibia and non amritdharis are still able to pass water to the doors while the Singhs wash / dry the floor / walls.

The Pakarma is washed around 2.30 (again from memory) and everyone is able to do this seva.

Ask a sevadar at darbar sahib for the timings. If in doubt about whether you will be able to do the seva, just sit outside with the rest of the singhs and wait your turn. Your checked before you can go in - ie if your amritdhari, no pajama etc

  8. WJKK WJKF

How much do coaches cost, to rent from 9am to 6pm?

from birmingham to coventry? for 1 day

    WJKK WJKF

Try ringing a few places for quotes. Might want to try Thandi Coach as they do private hire and might be cheaper then a gora company.

You will need to know what size coach you want, ie 30odd, 40odd 50odd, double decker etc.

  9. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

Yesterday i received numerous texts informing me the BBC are doing an article on the Kirpan and the chances are it would be negative. I did not get a chance to view yesterday so thought i would catch up today in my lunch break.

I seached good news for "Sikh Kirpan" and the following appears as the top hit.

"Mightier then the Kirpan" - http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/belief/2010/feb/09/dagger-dilemma-sikhism-kirpan-schools

Upon reading the title and description, i assumed being on the guardian page, it would be written by a gora. Then i opened the link and saw it was Hardeep Kohli.

I have never been a fan of this muppet as in my opinion he makes Sikhs look like fools but once i read this article, this moorakh needs to be spoken with. After the Sonia Deol interview i would have hoped this twat would maybe show a better stance on Sikhi but this article says the opposite.

He questions the need to wear the kirpan in todays world disregarding Hukham of Guru Gobind Singh.

I know he is not a "Practising Sikh" but having so called Sikhs like this in the media simply defeats the work done by Sikh Federation and Unites Sikhs etc.

  10. "forget buying it, how about a link to download it???"

This is the exact cheapskate Punjabi attitude which is responsible for Sikhs being behind every other faith in the world in terms of organisation, administration, promotion and education.

If we supported those that make a tremendous effort in Kirtan, Dhadhi, Kathaa, Media etc - the Panth would be flourishing, instead we have 'demand' led bollywood kirtani and kathaakar/Babai and 1 Sikh Channel.

Be responsible and intelligent, don't buy one copy, buy several and distribute them to your young nieces and nephews etc. More sales will equal more productions.

Please lets stop cutting our own throats - support real Raagis/Dhadis as well, buy their albums, so that they produce more quality work and secure the heritage for future generations.

    lol

also, does anybody know where to download sundri from? or any of the other vismaad movies??

Vismaad Productions made a HUGE loss on Sundri from people making copies.

They are not asking for much - we were all quick to bang out a £4 direct debit for the sikh channel because we think its our seva and all the other crap but we cant make a £10 purchase once a yr for a dvd? Instead download it?

Shameful. I was looking forward to BUYING this dvd as i have always bought them. I was not able to see the viewing in my city and wont be able to make it to the other ones either therefore knowing the dvd is not available for purchase, is a shame. The dvds are eductational and also very good to see.

  11. Should amritdharis carry with them at all times the 'Metropolitan Police guidelines' for wearing kirpan?

    Fateh Ji

I think this is a good idea however the moorakh standing infront questioning it still wont believe you.

Maybe its worth creating "licesnes" as such - similar to those Nihang Singhs have in the Dal. This would determine you are Amritdhari and this would be approved by the stupid government and police force. This would then have to be relayed down to all security firms to ensure these things done happen in the future.

At the moment, the Kirpan is an exception to the weapons act however those who need to know, dont know this. I had a policemen tell me it was a weapon and i had to remove it. Shows how their training goes - a race who carry in their eyes a dagger... didnt even know it was accepted.

I think the license would be a good idea, provided after an amrit sanchar only and to be carried at all times when leaving the house if you wish to know you be ok when going to public places.

I know this is not the ideal solution but it would help prove to idiots its accepted under the law as it would have a government seal or some crap on it. Maybe linked to a register similar to the gun laws...

At least we know a check can be done on a central database to prove that individual is supposed to be wearing a kirpan.

  12. Waheguru Waheguru Waheguru,

Aren't you lot ashamed? Arguing with each others, are you lot not brothers / sisters?

When we have the right to argue with someone, we don't...

When we have the right not to argue with a Sikh, we do?

    Aren't you lot ashamed?

Just do this, people who think Sikh channel are frauds, don't give them £4 a month. Fullstop.

Waheguru has done kirpa on us, and will help us in the future...

Two words for the people who say sikh channel are frauds : SHUT UP!

    Please think.

We blame RSS/Indian Government, for making divisions in our KAUM, look at yourselves...

    Waheguru Waheguru...

Waheguru Ji Ka KHalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

Firstly, i apologise if this offends anyone.

    Secondly, Singh#

Please yourself SHUT UP because you are really starting to get on my nerves and probably the majority of other users.

For the rest of you forceful individuals,

No one is obligated to pay anything to the Sikh Channel. If they want to donate, they can. They do not require to set up a direct debit.

So what if they did not receive the requested 10,000 direct debits. Whats your point? They wanted 10,000 direct debits of £4. That equates to £40,000 correct?

Now i saw a thank you to a Gurdwara in Italy pledging £400 odd to the channel monthly. Now this equates to a 400 direct debits. Now again, is the sikh channel requesting direct debits or monies from sangat to run the channel. I can guarentee people who have set up direct debits also, have not just set up £4 but some will have donated the higher amounts because they have money to do so.

Thirdly, before anyone else dictates we can give money to Zee Tv etc, lets correct ourselves. Those of you following a Gursikhi Jeevan, do you contribute to the extra cost of the Zee network? Probably not seeing as (or i hope) your not interested in the Gandh the network produce. Therefore, by stating if we can give money to Zee why not the Sikh Channel is a pretty crap reason to TELL people to donate.

Maharaj runs the channel through the sangat. When will you people get that into your heads? We bang on about the importance of a Sikh channel and the education etc it provides but have forgotten all of the basic fundamentals Guru Nanak Dev Ji taught us.

I was under the impression after the 31st the channel would cease. This was not the case. Not because the sangat didnt reach the target or your precious Mr Bal is funding the extra cash. Its because its the WILL OF AKAAL PURAKH to keep the channel open.

For those who believe people like myself who have not set up a direct debit are here to put doubts in peoples mind, get a damn life. We are ALL humans with a brain and can think for ourselves. Just as its easy for you to say we encourage bad thoughts of the channel, are you not in turn through your "sweet" words brainwashing people to accept the channel has no flaws and is perfect? The answer is Yes.

    Let people decide for themselves.

So you know. I have no problem setting up a direct debit to a SIKHI Cause. I do however have a problem putting money into something i do not see running according to Gurmat principles but claim to be for the panth, e.g. Bibia with Dastars and wearing makeup (BIG NO). Before anyone says i have all the knowledge to set up a channel so why dont i or go on the show and do something. No, i dont have the knowledge and no i do not wish to go on the Show. I have no need because im not a defensive loner who needs to behave childish in my actions of " why dont you do it then. " I do however feel it is important to ensure the opinions of EVERYONE can be said freely and not be told to SHUT UP because you cant handle it that there are a few people out there who do not always allow wool to be pulled over their eyes just because there is something new for the panth.

It is good there is a sikh channel, i do watch it and i enjoy watching it but does not mean i have to pay for it.

So you are aware, i have no problem saying what i have said above in person, to anyone. Please, think of that before you decide i can only make comments on the internet.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh.

  13. SO if you walk 20feet away from the Gurdwara you are saying its "not so bad"? or "ok"?????????????? blink.gif

lol the singh sabha gurdwara in southall has a pub opposite it (glassy junction) less then 20 ft away. no1 says anything about that.

Unless they own the pub, its irrelevant. Most Gurdwaray in UK have a pub located only a few steps away.

The point is the Gurdwara should not be using any part of their owned / rented property (including community centres etc) for the purpose of anti-gurmat activities including, meat and alcohol. This was reiterated in the sandesh issued from Akaal Takht Sahib 2006. I think a copy can be found on the forum in another section.

  14. Yes I do realise that it seems as though I am doing the same thing but I am a non Amrit Dhari who is trying very hard to take Amrit but things like this makes it that much harder and is making me take steps backwards not closer to it..

Sikhi is about humility, does that mean we simply kiss the feet of those who slaughter our faith? I am a culprit for breaking this rule. I must beg forgiveness. Being an Amritdhari doesnt mean you have to be a wimp for the rest of your life. It means, yes you are humble and accept maharajs hukham. That is the humility maharajs talks about. Living in the charan of others. To do seva of the panth. This is humility. To hide away and not say when something is wrong, is cowardly.

There are Sakhis i remember listening to when i was finding my path to Sikhi and they stick with me to this day such as - The moghals said no one can ride a horse but them, so the Sikhs rode horses. They Said no one but a King can wear the Kalgi, So Maharaj wore the Kalgi. Singhs set up toll booths and taxed the mogals for using the road rather then paying the taxes which were forced upon them. All these Khalsa sikhs had humility - in the sense maharaj wished them to.

I can only believe according to your mentality this was incorrect of Maharaj and the Khalsa as they were not humble enough to accept the humility you speak off.

Penji, Life is full of hurdles, you get over them. If something like this puts you away from Sikhi, then you need to make it stronger in better sangat. Watching "Amritdharis" behave like regular persons on the street is whats pushes me away from Sikhi - hence now days, i avoid just about everywhere where there is a bunch of youth as those are the ones with the Hero Sikhi mentality that they believe is correct.

As to the rest of your post, the Sikh channel (presently) is not broadcasting. Yeah you've guess it, donations. We must remember, whenever we start something enormous there will be huge obstacles. By struggling and then identifying our way past these set backs will only make us stronger. In the same way this is the first ever Sikh channel in the WORLD, it's bound to get so many flaws. Patience is the key my friend.

    Bhul chul maaf

    fateh

Does sky give a free allowance to broadcast only text? If the channel is not broadcasting the regular slots one can only assume this?

  15. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

My apologies firstly for not making a post earlier in relation to the beadbi.

Yes, the committee is responsible for the disrespect by Bob Ainsworth for not telling him to cover his head and take of his shoes.

This should have been done on him simply entering the Gurdwara.

BUT this is still not a viable excuse for the fact he was not able to read the signs or even notice every individual around him was not wearing shoes and had their head covered.

He is not a new councilor, he has been on the scene for years. This is not his first enounter with sikhs, i have personally spoken with him on many occasions at the Lobby Days etc - he knows who and what sikhs are. He has been to the Gurdwara before. This was a deliberate act of ignorance. He knew what he was doing. No excuses should be made for his behaviour.

If he wants to be a community representative, firstly, he should know a few things about the community he represents and approaches.

Yesterday i received a letter through the post from him (posing to be him, just a photocopied letter sent to all coventry residents) stating how crime etc is on the rise and other crap. At the bottom, it has methods to contact him by phone, email, fax and letter.

Sangat ji, i believe the best thing to do is to continue to lobby him with complaints of his behaviour until he formally releases an apology in the local papers for his actions.

If this was done in a mosque, believe, it would have been dealt with instantly (but then to be honest, i doubt muslims would have allowed any form of beadbi in the first place).

He came to the Gurdwara to get votes. We should stand united to demonstrate he will not get the votes of Sikhs until he formally apologises.

Again, my apologies for not posting earlier, this should have been posted before.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh.

  16. What is the purpose of posting the video on here?

These guys are jokes, amritdhari's with dhumallay and sri sahibs in clubs doing the gigs!?!

In the video one of the fools appears to be wearing dhumalla but has a trimmed up beard! i know they sometimes tie up their dharis but still, this is a joke.

    These guys should be boycotted.

They activley promote a bad name for Singhs.

On one hand, we try to convince sikhs clubbing and music is wrong as were given ears for Bani to be heard and mouths to sing it yet these guys, in the same roop - amritdhari, Guru Jis Fauj's Roop are in the face of it playing crap the majority of the time.

I have had first hand experience of their gigs, back then i was not into Sikhi but was put off by their appearance and walked out of a gig.

Admin, please delete the link, viewing Tigerstyles stuff just brings shame to the roop of Khalsa.

  17. yeah that was really wrong what they did, i mean not everyone wears bana all the time!

    neway, heres the laws,

139.—(1) Subject to subsections (4) and (5) below, any person who has an article to which this section applies with him in a public place shall be guilty of an offence.

    (2) Subject to subsection (3) below, this section applies to any article which has a blade or is sharply pointed except a folding pocketknife.

    (3) This section applies to a folding pocketknife if the cutting edge of its blade exceeds 3 inches.

    (4) It shall be a defence for a person charged with an offence under this section to prove that he had good reason or lawful authority for having the article with him in a public place.

    (5) Without prejudice to the generality of subsection (4) above, it shall be a defence for a person charged with an offence under this section to prove that he had the article with him—

    (a) for use at work;

    (b) for religious reasons; or

© as part of any national costume.

    (6) A person guilty of an offence under subsection (1) above shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding level 3 on the standard scale.

    (7) In this section "public place" includes any place to which at the material time the public have or are permitted access, whether on payment or otherwise.

    (8) This section shall not have effect in relation to anything done before it comes into force.

This is outrageous and totally unacceptable.

Have passed on the link to this item to several contacts that have legal background and deal with police. Our objective should be to:

    i) get an immediate written apology from the most senior police officer in the region;

iii) publicise this apology in the Sikh/Panjabi media; and

iii) try and make sure through ACPO that this does not happen again.

ACPO contact and a Sikh who has dealing with many police forces has come back with the following. Please ring Harmander Singh

    Need additional details,

Time, place (which police service) etc.

    Harmander Singh

    07958946868

i will give him a call in the morning! thanks sangat ji

  18. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

Saad Sangat ji, a benti, please can those with legal documents please post a message in response as i require this to make a formal complaint against the police force.

Last night a police officer spotted the end of my kirpan and requested me to remove it. I refused and he stated its classed as bladed instrument n therefore i have the option to remove it myself or be arrested. I made him radio it in to his sergant infront of me which he did. His superior stated unless a Sikh is wearing "religious clothing" (a bana or something similar rather then trackies and a tshirt) it is an illegal offence.

Due to certain circumstances and going away in a week to the states, i did my ardaas and removed my sri sahib knowing i still hand one in my kesh.

What i request from the sangat, seeing as many a time i have past police and spoken to police wearing english clothing, a document which says contarty to what he has stated. I did some googling last night but didnt find anything, i need documents which will assist. Im going to call a solicitor in the first thing monday to converse with them my rights but if the sangat can assist in providing legal documents then please do.

Its maharajs hukham and the end of the day if we believe it all happens in his will, but just thought i would share the experience and also seek advice at the same time.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh.

  19. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

I have 2 styles of Chad Toras. One of them i know how to tie, the other i don't. The one one i know about is the one that has the Chand and the Tora together (the Tora goes through two holes on the back of the Chand)

but the other one i have is just one loooong piece of Tora and a Chand (they are not connected). My question is how to tie the one that that one? When i bring the Tora over the bottom of my Chand it holds it down, BUT the top of the Chand is not held down at all. It starts to stick out, and comes loose.

I hope someone out there understands what i am talking about exactly, and can give some advice, thank you.

Thread the tora thru the chand (so it goes the gap of the chand, onto the base of the khanda and back thru the chand Then after a couple of round head, put over the chand base as normal

im sure theres a video on youtube?

Other option, jus super glue the 2 pieces together..

  20. Does anyone know the ingredients and the process in making shardaee??

I remember drinking it once before, had nuts milk water etc added to it....

I'll have the nasha free method please rolleyes.gif

badam, mishri, milk, letchi, kali mirch (pepper - the one u grind), kuss kuss, naam simran, bani

That should make u a very nice bata full!

(apologies if i missed anything out.. been a long time since i helped make it last..)

  21. Paji, linux isnt very stable.. it just appears it.. its a good hacking tool but in terms of stability, its ok.. but not as supported as windows..

Linux is used by more advanced users hence it appears more stable, where as basic users operate windows OS's in the majority. They find its unstable as they dont make effort to maintain windows updates, service packs etc. They will probably have crappy norton etc which dnt really help as they attract more viruses then kill.. those who know how to use windows properly, they will configure it to a high level so its stability is next to none

  22. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ke Fateh

    haha windows is the worst

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ke Fateh

    WJKK WJKF

Paji this response shows ur lack of knowledge... Badly..

Windows is not the worst.. there is MUCH worse, infact windows is one of the best and user friendly OS's on the market, its only downfall is its licensing as even i agree, they do overcharge.

For those of you who flaw its security? Is this because you your selft dont know how to lock windows down? and make it secure or because you hear it and continue the rhumours? Windows is actually a very secure OS providing you use it properly. Actually take the time out to learn the features it provides. A great response will be MS have to publish service packs. The reason for them is the feedback given hence the change and additions to the product, Free of course if you have internet.

Mac is good if you wona do media work, if you are using as a basic home user, or even in offices, its not the best tool.

Linux is jus a waste of time. If you think you understand security by stating windows is not secure, your very much mistaken.. An OS which is made through Open Source, is NOT secure. If YOU write the software, you could infact bug the software, infact you know the entry to the software to cause it problems. Infact Linux is easier to hack then Windows platforms, just you dont hear about it as much due to the fact people will spend as much time as they can to bring down the dominator of the market.

In response to the original question, look at the requirments you need for your job role and college course, if your doing media and the college use mac machines, it makes more sense to use this option rather then a windows platform for the simple reason you become more familiar with the tool.

Jus a lil thing i think i will share with you.. The cash machines you use? Stop using them.. They are locked down windows xp boxes.. programed to run one application only..

Understand the software before making comments on its ability to perform a task. Until you actually know how to use it, or spend the time reading the correct articles, you wont understand the benifits of the product.

  23. Yeh i saw dis before. I think u need to calm down. They aint dragging sikhs into it. just raising a valid point which i think is fair. We should support the cause for this girl.

The girl doesnt have a valid case. There is no symbol in christianity which needs to be worn for a religious purpose. There religion states to take communion or a blessing from the priest in the church. They do not need to wear items for religious reasons.

Sikhs wear the Kara for its meaning and purpose, also a gift from Maharaj. a ring is another way of wearing jewelry in school hence the fuss is being made. Wen i was at school, i went to a church of england one.. Alot of goray argued to wear the cross (which they were alowed being the nature of the school) purely so they cud wear a chain. They wernt actually interested in the cross, jus the chain.

The girl is just using "sikh symbols" as her reason to wear her ring. If she is so desperate to wear, put on a chain or string and wear round her neck.
