  1. we call ours machi.. lol its clever, it knows when its dinner time to! comes to the tank each day at 5 for feeding!
  2. Is there no learned Gursikh who can help?? I would recommend sukhmani sahib.. dont know why.. just first Bani which came to my mind.. Hope helps.. WJKK WJKF
  3. Just to point out.. This was originally posted last week... Not many people signed it.. Please sangat ji, sign up, it will have an affect on the Sri Sahib we wear to more then likely and if you are like me, collect shastars, it will screw up trying to get puratan shastars from people who probably dnt respect what they have and looking after them properlly ourselves. Admin, maybe a sticky..??
  4. Taskal is a puraatan Jatha, its fine for them to go there and they give a good rehitnama. No offence, but why question when you have the Taksaal Logo?
  5. You say uk is messed up? bro have u seen the image you canadian sikhs have given to Sikhs worldwide? The amount of Sikhs in indo-canadian gangs, the air india saga, the whole fighting in gurdwara over whether one should sit on floor or chairs and tables, the fights in gurdwara over jatha's, the numerous shootings of rival commitee members, the amount of pendu punjabis committing so called honour killings, etc. And you say uk is messed up? lol Before some of non-UK Sikhs start to point fingers at us here in UK, its best you look and sort out your own backyard first! :TH: UK appears to be mashed, thats because we bring reality to attention, we dont live in the stars and over look problems brushing them under the carpet.
  6. Cov Sikh Soc this yr is not yet set up formally as said, singhs are not at the uni to do the seva. Not many people opted to do the seva due to the sanatan influence in previous years. Talks are underway with the uni to resolve and re establish the society for the coming new academic yr. THe numbers above are direct to the students union, they have a responsibilty to now investigate. The above was only discovered today, AFTER the event had taken place. What attempts do you suggest, awareness needs to be made, hence the need for the prevention of this happening again in other unis.
  7. Basically the islam society held an event to downgrade sikhi. They had someone from a sikh punjabi background, claim to embrace islam. More details are on the way. another email address to contact is suexec@coventryac.uk
  8. URGENT 2DAY @ COV UNI, THE ISLAMIC SOCIETY CAUSED RACIAL HATRED BY ORGANISING AN EVENT WHERE BY THE GUESTS DEGRADED SIKHI. Please complain to the student union for why they (an academic body) let an event which is in direct breach of UK Law by causing racial hatred. In the meeting, an "Aman Daliwal" the former Sikh, announced he was never a Sikh before he embraced islam. Leaflets were handed out to let people know. Coventry Singhs no longer attend the uni therefore we were unable to intervene before but it has not come to attention. Please lobby and complain to the student union and pass the message on for others to do the same so the uni can now pay for their incompetence. contact: Jo Thompson, manager 024 76 795205 suz056@coventry.ac.uk we CAN NOT allow to this to happen again! Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh
  9. when the words are written in gurmukhi, u will see the difference, they are 2 seperate words with 2 seperate meanings. Gurbani = words of the Guru Kurbani = pretty much means sacrifice Akhar is Gurbani is so important, one slip in pronounciation will change the meaning. They are two different words with seperate meanings! I get why you are confused, when i learnt of the word (kurbani) i didnt know it was a different one either
  10. Khalsa mere roop hai khas - maharaj gave us so much kirpa that if we cnt see cnt get to see the saroop of guru ji we can see panj singh, if we cnt see panj singh, another gursikh can be seen, failing that, we have the last resort to look in the mirror after an ardaas n being amritdhari, we have once again the image of guru ji or, a gutkha, bani guru guru hai bani wjkk wjkf (me, id go gurdwara n stay up an extra 20min..)
  11. Bani Guru, Guru Hai Bani End of story. Ask the library to remove both saroops, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, and Sri Guru Dasam Granth Sahib Ji from the premises
  12. Its a re occuring problem. Local Gurdwaras will be trying to intervene next yr to stop the nagar keertan, well not stop it, but put a ban on nanaksar having the seva. Instead another gurdwara will run the nagar keertan as per correct maryada as is the Vasakhi Nagar keertan. Do ardaas the council permit this, failing that, maharaj stops them holding it and doing beadbi again!
  13. CORNERED IN BY THE POLICE - A fight almost broke out 2yrs ago, police presense is VERY heavy, the baba had cctv police vans outside his house he stays at until he left on tuesday as some local singhs have informed. This is due to his personal safety, or some crap like that being in jepordy n the police have to take care of him. Coventry Singhs WERE there, as per normal to stop as much beadbi as they could, but questions is not where they are, where are the canadian singhs that can deal with the root of the problem?? Local singhs turned up to prevent beadbi, police were tipped well in advance and the singhs were set up to be arrested. No good commenting if you were not present at the day. Its a re occuring problem, contact those twats in the nanaksar lot to sort this issue out. Maybe someone can find them a good katha vajak who can explain what maharaj says, or EVEN what the originator, Baba Nand Singh was like!! How much satkar he had for Guru Ji that he would take him for walks on hot summer days with an umbrella thing keeping Guru Ji in shade, and now, his followers, dance like monkeys around that same Shabad Guru.
  14. By actually caring which person goes to which program means blatently your not interested in going to listening to keertan but maybe to see some friends? There is a saturday divaan in EVERY gurdwara in the uk, therefore should they all stopy because AKJ have a rhensbai??? Petty nonesene, seriously, sound like my old goray friends when we were deciding which club to go to! ITS THE LAHA YOU TAKE FROM THE PROGRAM, not the location, or the people. The trial is stupid, you have to do a trial to see if SIKHS can do keertan together?? THAT is just stupid. Like said, goto which one you believe you will get laha from. (that includes the saturday diwaan in your local gurdwara to) WJKK WJKF.
  15. Its 3" in terms of school and work place, i remember when i told work i was wearing kirpan after i took amrit, they said i cud wear a 9inch because i told em i cudnt take it of as i took amrit with it. They didnt know anything better, just what the law advised. They carried out a Health and Safety analysis to check if it was safe (to see if it poked me while sitting down!?!???) The law doesnt say much, just wear on a short gathra for work etc. In terms of public, do try to keep as much as u can covered up, ie wear a jacket that dnt restrict u getin to the kirpan like wearing it under ur tshirt.. I used to wear 3ft with bana to tesco n stuf, no1 said nething, not even copys (i was in bana so cud get away with it but dnt take stupid risks with todays climate.. with english clothes)
  16. The RELIGION was started by the british, a way to explain what another believe of god (other then what they think is theres, foolishly not knowing god is only the same with a different name). Guru Gobind Singh created the Khalsa, they purest of the pure a strict way of life.
  17. Why burn a human body when it dies? Why not just throw it away? After all, doesnt it just decompose to? No need to burn it? maybe what the muslims and christians believe is true? Bury it? Put it pack into the earth? Who knows? After all, just a dead body, maybe you could provide details on the scientific name for the corpse? No1 uses the stories of shaheeds to suit their needs. The story informs the importance of Kesh. Kesh doest not belong to us, its a gift from Akaal Purakh, therefore we should be sure to treat it with utmost respect in all conditions. Point about the dead still stands, we burn the body in sikhi. Can you explain the reason for this to please, or is bhamin mentality to.
  18. True. Some 2 rupee preacher makes up a story and tells these brahman loving anti jhatka meat brigade a story and they start to treat dead. Keratin is a protein, paneer is a protein. Lets stop eating paneer and instead start worshipping it. These taliban pseudo Sikhs make a mockery out of everything. If your refering to me as a p rupee preacher, please continue. Report me also, all good. Bottom line, Kesh is Kesh. You dont like it, so what. You belive your crap and let gurmukhs believe their inherited traditions. Who ever is incorrect will face the consequences in the court of the law. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh
  19. To throw it away jus shows how little respect we have for kesh. Mite aswel cut it ourselves. Should be burnt or if cant then just put in river. if you dont have time, store it in a bag and burn when you do. If you dont respect kesh, then you dont respect Guru Ji enough. Bhai Taru Singh gave his SCALP for his kesh. It might be dead to you, but its still the Kesh Maharaj left us. Its the same as just throwing a saroop away if its worn out. If its worn out, ang are ripped, then that in some peoples mentality is jus a page, and then if multiple pages are missing then maharaj is a book then we can throw away because we dont have the time to follow simple respectful practices. People might say thats goin over the top, but so what, end of the day we still must respect kesh whether its attached to our head or not. Guru Ji Took of his shoes to walk over the battlefield to avoid steping on kesh. Shows how much respect we have if we have to say we dont have time for sikhi.
  20. We are blessed in this life with the opportunity to embrace Sikhi. If you feel you are ready then take the steps, and let maharaj deal with the rest. A person who comes between a Gursikh and their Guru is not a good person.. She can like it or lump it, the worst she can do is stop talkin to him or move out, but then she wouldnt due to what would people say. If the kid asked, she cant say, i moved out because daddy was keeping his kesh as per the Gurus Hukham. It makes HER look like the dumb one. Either way, what ever happens, keep kesh and build the relationship with Maharaj. As said, HE takes care of everything.
  21. Hunger doesn't make u greedy. Hunger is a natural call or signal that ur body need something to survive. Lust is a natural cause of the body which the body craves. Yet we can overcome it with Bani. The same applies to Hunger. Hunger is just your mind telling you to eat, you dont need to. The body can survive 40days average without food. WE need to eat as WE are self willed manmukhs. Maharaj tells us Gursikhs are to eat little, sleep little and talk little. Therefore if you are hungry you can overcome it by reciting naam or reading gurbani. Guru Nanak Dev Ji did this, and i have read / heard a sakhi of sant ji doing the same, not eating for lengthy periods. A body can be trained not to eat, we just think of food as the only thing which makes the body survive, the body only needs small amounts of food, not alot. Gurbani takes care of the rest.
  22. I am also trying same, I have been advised for say minimum 2-3 weeks sleep early and have a very light Dinner. When you less your body will try to wake you up due to hunger. :TH: But if your hungry then how are u meant to concentate on paath and simran? I've heard u are not meant to eat after your nitnem You can eat after, but not before!!!! If you are amritdhari, you shouldnt eat before completing your nitnem, if you do, rehitnamas vary.. but the basics are your a greedy something.. the same applies in the evening with rehras, you shouldnt eat until rehras is completed. Just take time with nitnem, like you can use a cd for a while but try reading them to in the day if you are not busy, japji sahib is easy after a couple of time, and so is chaupi sahib, anand sahib again isnt to complicated!! Only jaap sahib and svaiya that will give you trouble but the cd will sort that out!!!! One other thing.. try to read it in Gurmukhi NOW only and not romanized!!! You will notice the difference if you try romanized then gurmukhi!!
  23. In my travels in india, i saw a few bibia who DIDNT wear a pajama so its not a must, its more down to whether or not you want to (if you a bibi) i gues. And if u have the courage to. Bear in mind, her bana was down to jus above her ancles and she was one militant bibi, see attached pic!! As for is it maryada, yes, in Budda Dal gutkha, it clearly informs you in the Khalsa Rehit Maryada that a pajama is not to be worn. Times have changed, so its up to you, if you want to preserve maryada, then dont wear, if you dont mind losing it, then do wear. But when you do seva in the Guru Ghar, be sure NOT to be wearing, ie on maharaj tabiya, deg seva etc. Even in Darbar Sahib where the maryada is slacking now days with the overall orange bana.. when the ishnaan of Darbar sahib is being done, no pajama is allowed to be worn. now days, its down to personal choice but i dont think should.. people mock leg warmers, but they do the same thing!!! keep u warm!!
  24. I would have assumed thats what the suit was for.. As for the hoody, me personally, i dont like wearing it over my dastar but on occasions i have, ie when its raining heavy, n im wearing a coat with a hood on it, i hate umbrellas so to keep my self dry, i need to cover it up. I dnt have the nimerta to wear the plastinc shoping bag just yet!! lol, The same questions can be posed to the wearing of a shawl over ones dastar, in india and here in UK it happens alot. A hoody, if you look in the old english days was really, just a piece of kapra which covered a persons head, also used in disgusies, the shawl in india, serverd the same purpose. its just so happens since the clothing has changed, its now attached to your clothing as opposed toa seperate piece
  25. Some BEAUTIFUL shastaars
