Understand the purpose behind the "Bow". In Sikhi, we put our matha to the floor and submit ourselves to Guru Ji, simply saying, heres my head, its urs, heres my body, its urs! Do with it as you will!!! Im am yours, i am not one just a puppet in your control! You arnt really bowing to Guru Ji are you when you think it of that? "Bowing" is a general custom in both japanese and chinese culture, in india, alot of people touch feet of elders to show respect, or giv a hug. In their culture, bowing to the elder is a sign of respect. Notice the bow to, for example, when bowing to the emporer, they lower their head and eyes to, similar to how we would infront of Maharaj, but when in kombat (may it be training or jang) they never hide sight of the opponent, whether it be the teacher or the dhushan. Heres the science bit you could say. In martial arts, you generally, (this is from my experience from a wide variety or styles), generally bring your left hand which is open to your right hand which is closed. Notice the nature, the hand dont actually meet in the centre when done properlly, the open hand (left) goes to the closed (right) and then both come together to the middle. Why? Well, heres the clever bit!! Its all significant. The open hand shows u come in peace - hence its open!! and the closed hand says you are ready to fight if so need be but you come in peace as this is the first motion - left to right. Notice when done, you SHOULD always be lookin at your opponent. Now take Gatkha or Shastar vidiya, we always do Namaskar to both the Akhara and the Shastar, the principle is the same, out of respect we Namaskar. HERES WHERE THE CONCLUSION LIES!!! We bow or submit to maharaj, they bow or submit to the ruling authority. BUT they namaskar as a sign of respect to each other just as we do when entering the Akhara and before handling Shastar. I disagree Its not our faults as we are not the stupid ones. How much education can we provide to the people who should be educating us? If the SCHOOL teach the CURRICULAM set by the government, then there should be no difficulties in the matter. On my fist case of handling a Kara not being allowed to be worn as its was "jewelry", i asked the dep head, due you teach Religious Studies in schoo. To which he replied yes. I suggested he speak to the RE teacher and maybe join the class to learn about faiths. A teacher is meant to know about all walks of the community. Believe it or not, its actually a standard requirment. My mum used to work in a school, for FAIRNESS when doing her qualifications, in diagram drawn books, they would include, brown faces, for indians and kalay, a patkha kid for a sikh, and would represent white and chinese faiths to. Now seriously, if there are getting all this teaching on the route to the profession, are you sure they arnt geting enough education? I speak DAILY to my work colleagues telling them the importance of kesh and stuff and why wear a dastar, they agree. Couple of days later, ask the same question. Iv given them links to sikhi websites and yet they still dont get the point half the time. Education is there, it works the same way, do we educate ourselves in EVERYTHING of their community? Its a good achievment. But shud have asked, does everychild who has nits in the class get told to take there scalp of? or remove their hair? Simply coz they hav an itch? If you have an itchy back, would the teacher tell you take your clothes of? Or even if your cold and so tuck ur shirt in or hot so pull it out? No! so its the same for a dastar!! handeled good tho!!! teacher is just stupid.

I think the SIKH FEDERATION should issue the documents or articles which they have as requested my myself personally 8months ago when i helped a student with her issue of not being allowed to wear a kara in school. From there, she is know amritdhari and wears a dastar, and is a chardi kala gursikh! point being, if they have the documents, please provide them to us, the youth who can activley take time out to help students in need if they are busy with their own agenda they work for, (8 point agenda?) sorry i dont know it off by heart but all im saying is, we have these organisations, lets use them to our advantage now. Yeh there is that too.. i cudnt remember what the moon represented hence didnt put it!! But like the khanda in the middle, sword of justice yeh, hence it is also included. There are different chands, therefore like the khanda (the one on nishaan sahib) its different sometimes, since most groups have made ammendments. Pratan singhs didnt show tora either, it was well hidden as it purpose was to protect and also keep dhumala on ur head!! they also used another one as like another shastar! its only a show now!! chand represented which misl u were from in effect...

Do ardaas and chaupi sahib for Bhai Sahib and his family that he gets released and charges dropped as he is not on trial but Sikhi's PRINCIPLES is on trial! Maharaj will do the rest! Maybe even establish a campaign to let him go? From reading the papers and the news of the local city! dont look like anyone is willing to help but what suprise is that? none! APPRECIATE WHAT A SIKH IS FIRST THEN MAYBE YOU WILL GET YOUR STATEMENT CORRECT. I think you mean, "The PUNJABI community has no room for these people". Tatchbrooke Centre has Khanda emblems on the signs. IF they are to continue to drink in this hall, which clearly they will for the next 2 years, the sign needs be changed aswel as the name on the deeds therefore having no Sikhi Association. It needs to be pushed too. I know it is not a permanant solution, but it is something which needs to implemented in the partial time until they have got the new hall under seperate funding. I also agree that the drinking HAS to stop and meat to! NOW! BUT unfortunatly, in the eyes of the British law, this isnt actually attached to the Gurdwara therefore we can only use the sangat to keep requesting a change! Still brilliant news!! Keep doing Ardaas and we will Succeed! Im in no favour of the centre being used, but one step at a time i gues... :lol:
