Why are there two Bhattra Gurdwaras now in Leeds? Was there a rift between two factions? It must be difficult for both Gurughars as there are only a finite number of sangat to give support.

Just off topic, have you noticed the Radhaswamies have aquired a new building. Used to be a car showroom. Very large premesis and they are very organised, always at least four stewards helping the congregation direct and park their cars in the carpark. The board outside the building reads - Science of the Soul (?)

the reason there is a rift is because the ones in question wanted to build a party hall and have done though it is not finished and hopefully never will be. The others who have a gurudwara in the park did not want a party hall.

There is due to be a party hall but as far as i know they have not got enough money to finish the building work on it which is all Guru Jee's Kirpa.

Also, I would not mind giving the money, however its the rules they try to impose on you i.e who you can talk to oh and the 101 pounds you have to give if you have a baby boy.....what gets me is the non gurmat activities going on under the title gurudwara.

That's really bad. It's trying to coerce all of the regular sangat to pay a monthly fee, by trying to shame them on the notice board. If it had been a list of members fair enough, but a list of non-members is out of order.

I mean a gurughar is open to all so if someone from another town visited would they be added to the list? Or is it just a list of locals who attend but don't give a monthly fee? If that is the case then the commitee should consider changing its policy or the alternative is to change the name from Gurdwara Kalgidhar Sahib Leeds to Leeds Sikh Membership Club, (well so called Sikh)!

It is a list of locals who attend but do not give a monthly fee . These locals are also classified by their caste system. Gurudwara Kalgidhar Sahib in Leeds has put a list of names on their notice board, claiming that the people on the list are non members of the gurudwara and furthermore have claimed that the named people have excluded themselves from the sangat. Some of the people on this list were members whereas some of the people on the list were never members and their names simply put on the list because they are the same caste as the people who run the gurudwara.

Moreover this is all being done under the name Gurudwara, a Guru Jee's house, is this really what happens is Guru Jee's house, only people who pay a monthly fee are considered to be not excluding themselves from the sangat, I'm just so disgusted I don't no what to say.

I was watching punjabi news this morning and i'm sure that they said the rules have been changed and women can now do kirtan in Darbar Sahib. I think I may have made a misunderstanding though because no body else seems to know anything about this, has anybody also heard this news??

I was talking to my cousin about sikhi and equality of women within sikhi...then he asked me this question

if men and woman are equals why does the man take parkarma around Guru Jee during the laavan?

i was not sure of the answer so i said that this may be cultural...does anybody know why??

Have you tried talking to your parents?

Is there Neway you could remember Waheguru whilst studying like Guru Nanak Dev Jee did when he was working, everytime he counted to thirteen (tera) he would remember guru jee?

I know this gurdwara well, they do not serve meat in the langar hall. However I agree that the party hall should not be opened and it seems that Maharaaj is not letting this happen anyway since they are short of funds.

This other issue about mixing with people who are not members of the gurdwara is nothing to do with sikhi and the people whom this is being forced upon should stand up and be lions - sikhs should stand up to intimidation not just let it happen. Thats what I would do anyway.

basically i lied to get a job, i did not mean to it just happened - i couldnt make the interview and so i knew i needed a good excuse for them to reschedule it so i told them i was going to volunteer in India.
