  1. How were the Guru's bodies disposed? cremation. How did the Sikh Shaheeds have their body disposed? cremation. How did many Sikh saints for the last 500 years dispose of their body? cremation. hmmm sounds like a tradition to me. and tradition is defined as: tra·di·tionNoun/trəˈdiSHən/ 1. The transmission of customs or beliefs from generation to generation, or the fact of being passed on in this way. 2. A long-established custom or belief that has been passed on in this way. So yes, cremation is a Sikh tradition.
  2. We need to stop being tree huggers for minute and just follow our traditions which is cremation. one body being burnt isn't going to cause an environmental catastrophe. There are other things going on the in the world which are a 1000 times more damaging for the environment. For starters, stop using your cars. Go to work on a bike or bus. Stop eating meat(factory farmed animals are not good for the environment). Women, stop wearing makeup since most of these products are animal tested.
  3. We can't blame the non Sikhs for having this perception of us. Sikhs worldwide are known for being heavy drinkers and it is not entirely untrue either. Just go to any Punjabi party or better yet next time you're in a plane going to India just watch the jaloos Apne do when they start drinking.
  4. Thanks for the book. It's excellent. But I am getting help from a person who knows kirtan. I thought if I could also study from an online guide, then I could get ahead and learn faster. Just as learning kirtan is a must for a Sikh, similarly to learn kirtan an Ustad/Teacher is a must.
  5. On the following site: http://www.gurmatsangeetproject.com/Pages/BasicSyllabus.asp They have a Gurmat Sangeet Study Guide. I'm trying to learn Kirtan from that site, but I can't seem to find where the notes are located on the Harmonium. I know where notes are located if it was written in Punjabi, but they have their study guide in English(click the Notations). So can someone please help in finding out where their notes are located on the Harmonium. Or the very least can someone help me find their Harmonium notation diagram. I can't seem to find it on their site.
  6. Some people here are real weird in their hatred. Sometimes I doubt they have met a real live Hindu in their lifetime.
  7. UP has the highest population in India. It also has the largest population of Muslims in India. This is also the place where Deobandi Muslim center is located. On the other hand, Hindu fundamentalists are also increasing their influence in the state. When Ram Mandir is created at Ayodya, you can expect tensions between the Hindus and Sullahs. Maybe a future civil war type senario. Sikhs of UP should be prepared. Many Sikhs live in UP. Sikhs in UP should start to buy fire arms because when the $hit hits the fan, Sikhs don't want to be unprepared.
  8. he has done katha. check out www.gurmatveechar.com
  9. That's just the thing. America is responsible for so much suffering. Yes, it's a tragedy that 3000 people died on 9/11 but what about the hundreds of thousands of people in Iraq and Afghanistan that also died? Are only the lives of white anglo saxon people important and other lives don't matter? WASP should realize the suffering they are causing.
  10. It's very easy for the government to buy people by showing the money or offering career advancement then asking them to appear in a propaganda videos. Have you forgotten how this party had successfully bought Sikh leaders since 1947? This is the congress party he is fighting with, the same party which unfairly divided Punjab, attacked Darbar Sahib, killed Sikhs in the streets of Delhi and killed many more Sikhs after 84. Tell me one thing, what will Hazare gain by fighting against corruption? The only people that will gain will be the people of India. Another question is, who do you think will lose the most by Hazare's fight against corruption? the government of India, corrupt politicians.
  11. Inqlabi bro, congress is obviously more corrupt. We have a propaganda video made by Hazare's opponents (most probably congress), on one hand we have a man who is fighting against corruption which is a common threat to all the people of India. Forget that he is a Hindu for second and and pretend he is a Sikh/Buddhist/Christian/Muslim would you still be against him? just because the man happens to be a Hindu does not automatically make him a bad person. People in India regardless of religion are supporting his fight against corruption because it has absolutely NOTHING to do with Hinduism. If you lived in India you would probably know what a HUGE problem corruption is. Corruption affects everyone and everything in India. You cannot do anything in India without indulging in some form of corruption.
  12. The congress part of India seems to be trying very hard to discredit this man.
  13. Who ever takes care of the parents deserve the lion's share of the estate. But the daughter in this case should take some points under consideration before she proceeded. -Firstly, in traditional Punjabi and Indian families the daughter and her husband & InLaws get a lot during the wedding which is one of the main reasons why daughters do not get equal inheritance as the sons. -Secondly, as per tradition what the daughter earns she keeps. The father and brother never ask her to contribute within the family expenses while the son is expected to start contributing to the family expenses(included sister's wedding!) and house hold bills. So taking these two points into consideration it seems unfair for a daughter to then demand an equal share. But I have seen cases where the daughter takes care of the parents because lousy sons do not feel it is their duty to take care of their parents at old age, and in that case in my opinion she deserves not just equal but more than all the brothers who did not take care of the parents.
  14. Yes, the so called "tiger" Jatha should also be exposed. They are also Kala Afghanis and they have a huge youtube presence. That guy who is the host of the so called tiger Jatha videos mocks Naam Simran like it is something very funny.
  15. Welcome back brother. If you feel the urge to take Amrit, then do is as soon as possible. Don't wait.
  16. amazing katha. worth listening to. Where can I download this Katha. Please provide a link.
  17. One of the most annoying things about Missionary college professors is that they are not even real professors. Most of them are only 10 grade pass and they do a missionary course and voilà! they become professors! Same way, Darshan Lal and Ghagha isn't even a real professors. They are only 10 grade pass. They have never seen the gates of a real college or university yet they call each other professor. Dhundha needs to stop calling himself a professor. If he wants he can call himself a Giani of missionary collage, but not professor.
  18. True. The traffic is only going one way. Our people are taking this clean shaven business way too lightly and nothing is being done about this. We are already a minority within the Sikhs and this all just happened since the mid 90s. Long ago when a Sikh boy cut his hair, it was a big deal within the family. Many times Sikh boys did not have the guts to cut their hair simply out of fear of his parents. But now even the parents do not care, and largely because Sikhi has taken the back seat in people's lives. Sikh mothers actually prefer their sons to be clean shaven because they think the boy will look more like her favourite bollywood hero and not to mention the fact that many of those same mothers preferred to marry a clean shaven man. Before this trend of Sikh girls wanting to marry clean shaven boys was only in the west. But now this manmukh trend has caught up in India which is the heartland of Sikhi. A friend of mine who was educated and born and brought up in the west went to India to marry and HE was rejected by a girl in India because she wanted a clean shaven boy and the girl wasn't even from the cities. She was from a Pend in Amritsar(Guru Ki Nagri!!!). This is an extremely serious problem and the Panth does not even realise it. Sikh jathabandis need to temporarily put every other issue on the back seat because right now more than ever MASSIVE Parchar is needed in Punjab to bring people back to Sikhi. If it is not going to happen now the damage will be irreversible for many decades. Right now the damage can still be undone. If Sikhs in India will not do the job maybe Sikhs in the west should go to India and do their part in doing parchar. I myself am planning to do this in a few years time. If not now, do it for your future generation because when your son grows up, who will be left to marry him? or would you rather see him cut his hair out of frustration just to get married? Singho! do something. So many parcharaks come here on tours in the west to do Katha. They need to do it in India, not here. Punjab is the mecca of Sikhi. If SIkhi is lost there, what hope will be left for Sikhi in the rest of the world? before many people used to feel bad seeing so many hair cutting Sikhs in the west, but at least we had hope for Punjab. But can we still feel that hope now seeing so many Sikh boys becoming hair cutters in Punjab? Something seriously needs to be done.Right now the situation of Punjab is such that you will hardly find a Sabat soorat Gursikh boy in Punjab's village. When you do find one, it turns out the boy is a kirtaniya so that is why he has a untrimmed beard. I myself whenever I go do any pend in Punjab, the first thing people think is that I must be some kirtaniya or giani because full Sikhi sroop has become so uncommon amongst young Sikh boys.
  19. A Gurdwara and it's affairs are religious matters reserved or religious minded Sikhs. Why would people who are not religious want to get their hands on the matters of the Gurdwaras when they are not even religious? does it make sense to you? do you not see the dangerous consequences of allowing non religious people to make decisions on Gurdwara matters? we have already made the mistake of following the election system instead of the selection system because of which the most deserving people are not in control of the SGPC. But once monas are allowed to make decisions for SGPC then all is lost. What will stop Hindus, Muslims, Christians from voting in SGPC elections? If you want control of Gurdwaras, then become religious. Simple as that. You cannot have your cake and eat it too. Problem is, people like you who are demanding for monas to be allowed to vote in SGPC elections are in a dilemma. On one hand you want to keep following the manmukh ways of this world where you can cut your hair, eat meat, drink sharaab, but at the same time you want control of religious functions of the Gurdwaras as well. You want to enjoy the best of both worlds without giving up anything. That is not how it works my friend. If you want to follow the Manmat lifestyle then you have to give up Gurmat. But if you want to follow the Gurmat lifestyle then you have to give up Manmat. Manmat and Gurmat are two opposites. You cannot have it both ways.
  20. I think you have it mixed up on the subject of ishq. A rehetvaan Sikh keeps Kesh itself out of the ishq he has for his Guru. Rehet itself is kept out of Ishq for Guru. Rehet is the rope that binds us directly with Guru Gobind Singh Jee. The more rehet one keeps, the more pyara you become of Dasam Patshah. Only a Hukmi Sikh can claim to be a true son of Guru Gobind Singh Jee. If you truly love Guru Gobind Singh Jee, then what is stoping you from following his simple hukam of taking Amrit? It is all a matter of love. People take Amrit for various reasons, but a hukmi Sikh who is an Ashik of Guru Gobind Singh jee will take Amrit simply because he is following the hukam of his beloved Guru. My family who were originally the typical manmukh Punjabi family realised this simple truth and decided to become Guruvalay by taking Amrit. Brother, during Islamic rule Sikhs were in the hiding and as you claim many sehejdharis cut hair out of fear for their lives, which is understandable. But brother, what is your majboori now? we are not facing any life threatening reason because of which you still cut your hair. Can you as a proud Sikh not keep your hair out of love for Guru Gobind Singh Jee?
  21. Genie Jee, the recent uproar of the sehejdhari right to vote is because the Congress government at the center (Delhi) without giving any reason all of a sudden dropped the bomb shell stating that Sehejdharis will be able to vote days before election. This is suspicious, why all of a sudden? All the Panthic jathabandis are against it. Only center(congress), Punjabi congress, the so called "Panthic Morcha" of Sarna who is a congress stooge is supporting the Sahejdharis to vote. All religious minded Sikh bodies are against it. Then tell me, how can you as a self respecting Sikh(whether mona or not) support this dicision of the Congress party of India being imposed on the Sikhs? I have family members who are monas, but even they say that they are against this decision of the congress government being imposed on the Panth because even they recognise that fact that a person who does not practice Sikhi has no right to make decisions on the Panthic level for the Sikh Panth. Amrinder himself trims his beard, drinks alcohal, keeps extra marital affair with a Muslim woman, what credibility does he or his bosses at Delhi have to meddle in the affairs of the Sikhs? If Sahejdharis(monas) will be voting what will stop Hindus (who practically look the same) from also voting in SGPC elections?
  22. Which SGPC member openly admits they are freemasons? Jews jews jew? I can see anti semitic Christians and even Sullahs going against them, but what reason does a Sikh have to be against them? And also tell me which prominent doctor of the city, principle of the government medical colleges, senior lawyers, business tycoons in Punjab are freemasons. Please name some, I'm really curious to know. The biggest tragedy of the SGPC was that they adopted the election system instead of the selection system. In the election system even the most corrupt and least religious individuals can get elected because they got the most votes and that is what we are seeing with the SGPC today. When the sehejdharis will start voting we can expect the SGPC to really go down the toilet after that because then Monas will start electing Monas after that.. Selection system needs to be adopted and only through this system can the most worthy and rehetvaan individual can be put in the right place. When Gurdev Singh Kaunke was made Jathadar of the Akal Takht is because because at the time the Singhs themselves were rehetvaan and they selected a pious rehetvaan Gursikh like Jathadar Gurdev Singh Kaunke. After him we have not been able to get such a Chardikala Jathadar.
  23. Show us one credible practicing Gursikh who supports Sahejdharis to have the right to make decisions at the Panthic level. On the other hand I can show you how the congress party is supporting the Sahejdharis to make decisions at the Panthic level. The same congress party which broke Punjab into 4 parts(Punjab, Haryana, Himachal, Chandigarh), attacked Darbar Sahib in 84, killed thousands of Sikhs in riots in Delhi, killed thousands of SIkhs in fake encounters. You want us to follow the dictates of such an anti Sikh party? Not gonna happen! A Sikh is he who practices Gurmat. Merely being born in a Sikh family or being a descendant of Sikhs does not make you a Sikh. A white man who has no Sikh ancestors but Amrit chaks, reads nitnem, wakes up at Amritvela has more right to call himself a Sikh then a mona-ghona who is a descendant of Sikhs but cuts his hair, drinks Sharaab, goes to parties and clearly follows Manmukh lifestyle. Guru jee has said "rehet pyari mujh ko, Sikh pyara nahi". Sikhi is a spiritual path. I have mona friends who are currently making an effort to follow Sikhi by going to Gurdwara, doing seva, read Bani and eventually take Amrit. Such monas I can consider Sikhs. Sikhi is a religion that believes in importance of quality over quantity. That is why puraatans Singhs were so few but were of high quality. Not like today where we have left is only quantity but hardly any quality. Brother, my family also used to be Monas and pure Manmukhs. So I am not talking with a holier than thou attitude. My background is also the same. Before my family adopted Sikhi, we were the typical Manmukh Punjabi family who cut hair, drinks, goes to parties yet proudly claimed to be "Sikhs". But thanks to Guru Jee's blessings who brought us into the Sikh fold. I encourage you, if you really love your Guru as a Sikh is supposed to do, then stop cutting your hair, take Amrit and become Sikhs of the Guru(GurSikh). If Sikhs can become strong in their faith then watch how Guru jee will help his Panth achieve full glory in this world. We need to bring the Panth back to the basics to how the Singhs were during puraatan times. Guru jee said "Jabb lag Khalsa rahe nyara, tab lag tej diho me sara, Jab eh gahe Bipran ki reet, me na karo in ko parteet". (As long as the Khalsa remains nyara, I will support them, but when they follow the ways of the Brahmins I will not support them"). Now cutting of hairs which sehejdharis do is a Hindu customs. Cuting of hair is not a Sikh trait. Keeping of hair and wearing of Dastar is what keeps us Nyara. Now if we cut our hair(Bipran/Hindu trait) and lose our Nyarapan, how can we hope for Guru Jee to bless us? Solution: stop beadbi of Kesh, since Kesh also is the Mohar of Guru Jee and take Amrit and become Rehetvaan Khalsa.
  24. I don't know about your anti Semitic views, but how is allowing hair cutters to vote in SGPC elections going to be beneficial for the Khalsa Panth? When Sahejdharis were given the right to vote it was because at the time the vast majority of the Sikhs were Keshdaris/Amritdaris. If only the early Akalis had known about the fall of the Panth to the state it is today perhaps they would not have been so easy going. Today, due to the influence of Kalyug and Maya most Sikhs have decided to forget the traditions of their forefathers and Gurus and began to cut their hair and the ones who do care are now called "zealots" and "narrow minded" by anti Semitic people like you. And yes, you are anti Semitic because it is usually the Anti Semitic nut-jobs who talk about free masons conspiracy theories. When they say free masons they really mean Jews, but that way they don't exactly sound as anti semitic.Plus allowing hair cutters to vote is a congress party conspiracy. So you want us to follow Indira Gandhis party?
