  1. Wow, just wow. Name calling? I thought this was Sikh forum not some trashy Desi/Asian forum. There's nothing in SGGS ji that supports either side. This is why I said this issue has nothing to do with spiritual, but more to do with cultural. It's obvious majority of Sikhs coming from Punjabi/Indian background where homosexuality is looked down on wouldn't support Gay marriages or Gay Sikh in general. This is why homosexuality wouldn't be accepted in Sikh community not because it's wrong in spiritual/religious context. I personally don't care enough if homosexuality is right or wrong in Sikh context, but you and anyone else on here can't stop others forming their own groups that will support homosexuality in the long term. So why bother fighting it? Why not worry on more pressing issues in our community than this issue which is turning into another "table and chairs in Gurdwara" issue?
  2. This issue more cultural than spiritual, but since majority of Sikhs in this world are from Punjab, chances of seeing gay Anand Karaj ceremony actually happening is slim. However, if Sikh demographic change (or Punjabis stop caring about Sikhi), then I could see shift to where we will see enough support for Gay Sikh community and their "right" to get married in Gurdwara.
  3. Problem is there's different version Rehat Maryada (and it interpretation ) out there. So I understand why there are Sikhs who don't follow Rehat strictly. It's just man made document (which there have been adjustments made to document) created in the last century while other Sikh groups ( like AKJ, Damdami Taksal etc) created their own version of Rehat since they reject SGPC rehat. If there's new sect formed in our community, they will just create their own Rehat to justify their beliefs.
  4. It's eventually going to happen where we will see more "sects" or "jatha" forming in Sikh community. All "major" religions go through it, so I wouldn't be surprised same happen to Sikhi. Eventually there will be a Sikh sect that support Homosexuality if we like it or not. End of the day, I think we should focus on more important issues (fighting against corruption in our community to educating world about Sikhi).
  5. Sikhs in Canada are very active while American Sikhs are engaged in some extent, so it's hard to understand why Sikhs in UK aren't engaged or united to vote fellow Sikh over non-Sikh MP.
  6. These Sikhs (they represent very small minority of Canadian Sikh community) are bunch of idiots. I agree that we shouldn't be fighting other community's battles for them especially when these communities don't return a favour to help us with our issues.
  7. Sorry, I don't understand point of posting this video? Just bunch of stupid kids thinking they're cool to be on video at nightclub.
  8. Admin can create a private section that only registered users of this forum can view. This will force spy agents to register on this site if they want to read our comments on private section. If they do end up registering, then Admin then can track their IP address and we can sort of get an idea which user on this site is a spy or not.
  9. No surprises since India has become pro-Capitalist since 90's while India buys military equipment from Americans now. Of course now all American companies outsourcing jobs to India, ties between USA & India is stronger than ever before. I think UK is jealous of this relationship and now they're going out their way to please Indians to win them back. Anyway, point is that if you want support from the west, then you have sell out to them. As of right now, there's no reason why the West will support Sikh issues that will negatively affect India.
  10. This is correct. USA "support" Sikhs not because they liked us, but because Sikhs were against USSR and anyone who supported them (like India). However, I am surprised that Brits, Israel and even Pakistan helped India to fight against Sikhs.
  11. These gurdwaras in the west make tons of money from marriages, so this is why they keep doing it. I am sure deep down they all know it's wrong, but they need money to run Gurdwara. Nothing is free in the west if you're foreigner.
  12. I think small Sikh population is root cause of this issue. It's tough out there to find right person to get married with. It's even harder for Keshdhari since a lot of our girls (both in the west and Punjab) don't want marry a sardar. So I personally understand why Sikh men end up marrying non-Sikh women especially in the west.
  13. This day and age, it's hard to find right partner as it is then add the fact finding a partner of Sikh background, it's almost impossible. I think low Sikh population will mean we will see more Sikh men marrying non-Sikh women. Let's hope in your case, Muslim woman is keen to embrace Sikhi and teach her children Sikh values.
  14. This is result of lack of leadership from our leaders in Canada to connect with today's Sikh youth and make them feel part of community. Due to this lack of leadership, we find Canadian Sikh youth just adopting Punjabi/Canadian culture as their only identity. But good news is there are Sikh youth groups in Canada promoting Sikhi and its value, but it will take more than that to get current Canadian Sikh youth to take Sikhi more seriously though.
  15. This is why we shouldn't be too quick to judge and assume on these things. There's always two sides to a story! I had a feeling this Singh wasn't exactly some innocent kid who run into bunch thug wannabes, but obviously this doesn't mean it was right to rob the kid and kick his turban though.
  16. Fair enough. I apologize for overreaction on one of comments made about Canadian Sikh community.
  17. To be fair, "Indo-Canadian" term is only used by Sikhs and others living in BC and Alberta. This term isn't used at all in rest of Canada where Sikhs are simply refer as "South Asian" or "Brown". American Sikhs are biggest sellout in Sikh community who will end up converting to Christianity to get a better job while wanted to fell accepted by American people so they wouldn't be viewed as terrorists. I rather have "white" name than convert to another religion to feel accepted by fellow countryman.. If you want proof, then look at Nikki Haley aka Nimrata Randhawa who converted to Christianity so she can win seat in the White House. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikki_Haley
  18. I am Canadian from Toronto area. :cool2: Brampton is becoming drug capital in Southern Ontario region to a point that American border guards inspect every truck coming from Brampton to see if there's any drugs (This can be confirm by anyone working in transportation industry) these days. Most of these drug dealers and traffickers from Brampton are coming from own community. It isn't BC level, but there's definitely criminal activity that exists in Ontario Sikh community. You're right about Sikh demographic is different than UK Sikh. Most of Punjabis in Toronto are from Malwa region who immigrated to Canada in large numbers during 80's as well.
  19. Hopefully World Sikh Organization file a complain against Weyers and CBC who obviously something against Sikhs (based on their history).
  20. You describe Canadian Sikh community perfectly. There's no middle ground when comes to Canadian Sikh men (Most Canadian Sikh women are most part loyal and semi-religious at least) when comes to Sikhi and politics. You either get hardcore pro-Khalistani type or non-religious gangster/drug dealer type. Only thing these two groups have in common is that they both easily resort to violence when dealing with conflict. Who was this guy? What's his name?
  21. Their twitter is still active though. RED KING SINGH TV @REDKINGSINGH · Mar 3 Real Talk: The main purpose of the headline was meant to convey Singh's Fighting Singh's does not make us Kings! #realkingsgive RED KING SINGH TV @REDKINGSINGH · Mar 3 Don't get it twisted Singh will always be King! Look past the distasteful headline and focus on the prime issue at hand. #Brampton https://twitter.com/redkingsingh
  22. You rarely see "race vs race" fights in Toronto (especially now), it's usually people in their own community fighting each other (Sikh vs Sikh, Black vs Black, Italian vs Italian, Tamil vs Tamil, Asian vs Asian etc.). But that being said, Sikh kids have stepped up in the past when they get attacked by outsiders. Being from Brampton, I have seen Sikh kids clash with Black and White kids before which lead to community leaders to step in.
  23. If you guys read comment section from the link, one of posters there said this happened in Malton. Singh in the video who got beat up is from Brampton. So he got beat up because he's from Brampton! Anyone from Toronto can tell you that Sikhs/Punjabi kids fight each other out of town pride (Brampton vs Malton vs Rexdale) than anything else. This is main reason why most of these incidents happen. This "beef" has been going on for decades. But fortunately, all these kids will grow out of it once they go to college and forget about this turf war.
