  1. Thank you. I hate how people will pull out their "race card" on this issue. Racism isn't an issue in sports anymore. I think in the future we will see tons of Punjabi athletes since our community will be more settled in the west and more liberal minded that we will be okay with our kids playing sports instead of becoming doctors, lawyers etc... Hey, Canada is starting to produce decent apna footy players. Heck, our last U-16 national team had 5 apnay on them. One of them might end up in Glasgow Celtic academy according to his coach.
  2. Good thing you made this thread, bro. People here tend to forget that sikhs marry hindus more than they do with muslims, but yet no one really says anything about it. I personally believe sikh men and women should only marry sikhs. But if they decide to marry non-sikhs, then I hope they're aware that Sikhi doesn't support inter-faith marriages.
  3. umm I am guess you're talking about singhs here. There are Punjabi athletes out there though. oh please.
  4. Who said anything about Sikhs helping out insurgents? To be clear, I was referring to Iraqi people who are caught in middle between American/British armies and insurgents. These people are being killed by both sides. So my question is, should Sikhs help/protect these people? Cool. Brother it seems of late we can't even defend ourselves against aggressors let alone help anyone else. I think we need to concentrate on getting our own strength and numbers up before we even contemplate helping anyone. This is not being selfish but realistic. It's like the old saying goes "You can't really help anyone else until you can help yourselves" We need to good values of our culture to permeate in all of our hearts which is easier said than done because humans seem to have a natural bias towards selfishness from what I'm seeing. Word. Sikh community is too weak, spoiled, judgmental, cold-blooded and soft now. There are too many messed up lot in Sikh community who are more about money, cars and jewelery than they're when comes to helping out the weak and poor. This is why I don't like associate with too many Sikhs these days and strangely enough, I tend to relate to other communities more than Sikh community. We don't have enough "balls" in Sikh community anymore. Sikhs have become soft as butter these days. LOL
  5. Where did you get that article from? Please post your source/link. Thanks in advance.
  6. So, do you guys think Sikhs should be helping out Iraqis to fight against British and American army?
  7. wow! I thought I was only Punjabi who felt so strongly about not joining the army. Nice to see there are people in Punjabi community who feel the same way as I do. I remember 4-6 months ago that Sikhs here and in UK were happy that British army were trying to set up a Sikh regiment. Luckily, British army back down. But what <Edited> me off was how people here were angry about British army backing down. Using your logic, perhaps you need to be reminded that the "brown man's" army/police force e.g. in India freely molests your sisters. Bear in mind that there are 'white' Sikhs on this forum. Even if there weren't it doesn't matter, there was no need for a statement like that. There's more I could say but I hope you know it in your heart anyway. Don't worry bro, I don't think too highly of brown man's army/police force either. I wish nothing but death to these scumbags. And I am sorry if I offended you or anybody else in this thread with my white man's army comment. Peace.
  8. Don't do it. No need to join the white man's army and doing their dirty work for them.
  9. I don't really see the big deal is when comes to gay marriages. How come gays aren't accepted in Sikh community? How do you deal with a gay sikh? Do you force them to become straight (if that is even possible) by marrying them to opposite sex or do you just disown them? Peace.
  10. Proactive: Sikhs should settle in USA? Sikhs face a lot of racism in USA. IMO, Sikhs should either move to Canada or England if they don’t wish to live in Punjab. Sunnybondsingh: Where did you get your numbers from? source?
  11. Thanks for the answers! :s Reading some of these stories here about how much s hit some of these sikhs go through to make in the west is crazy.
  12. I listen to rap, techno, rock and bhangra.
  13. I came up across an article about Italian Sikhs and I am shocked that there is actually good amount of Sikhs living in Italy. In fact, Italy has second largest Sikh community in Europe. So I was wondering, what is their history? Why suddenly Sikhs are moving to Italy? What is so special about Italy? Isn’t racism and fascism are major issues in Italy? Here's the link of article: http://www.nriinternet.com/EUROPE/ITALY/20...604Gurdwara.htm
  14. seems like your parents beat you up...thats why this question?! :D j/k Do you think our Gurus who were spreading the message of love to the world would beat up their own kids?... :s I created this thread because there is a thread about getting beats from your parents under "fun, articles, news" section. People there are just talking about how they got beats from their parents and having a laugh about it. So I wanted to know if Sikhi says anything about this issue.
  15. Did sikh gurus said anything about beating your kids being okay? I mean, is it allowed in Sikhi? Did sikh gurus used to beat their kids?
  16. okay, i don't want to way off-topic here, but did sikh gurus said anything about beating your kids being okay? I mean, is it allowed in Sikhi? Did sikh gurus (especially Guru Nanak Ji) used to beat their kids?
  17. No, there are hardly any singhs in sports because usually they're too busy studying and their parents don't approve of them playing sports in general. Here in Canada, I know tons of Punjabi guys who are capable enough to play (ice) hockey and football (soccer) if they wanted to. It is sad our parents don't encourage us to play sports since being fit is part of sikh lifestyle.
  18. I know someone who had a hard time in school and actually dropped out. He/She put a lot of effort into school, but he/she couldn't just cut it. Also couple of my friends had dropped out school because their families weren't making enough money to pay their bills. So my friends had to get jobs help out their families.
  19. What is wrong with that? Not everybody can cut it in school. Not everybody is "book smart". Anyway, as for rest of the issues Sikhs face with, well the only way to solve it is by starting a movement (similar to Singh Sabha movement).
  20. Naw, not too many singhs play sports, but there are a lot of Punjabis playing sports though.
  21. Is it okay to have singh/kaur as your middle name instead as your last name?
  22. Great news! We need to put sikh/punjabi youths into sports. Being fit (healthy) is part of our culture. Personally speaking, I wished there was sikh men's soccer league here in Canada. :s
