  2. Yes they are in the UK as they did kirtan in Gurdwara Karamsar, Ilford last night. They said they were still here for 5 more weeks. No idea where else they are going to be doing kirtan.
  3. This is really devastating news. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family.
  4. Just got back from this evening's programme. Kirtan was just anand!!!! :WW:
  5. Kirtan all day today! Oh no missed it... Anyone know the schedule for tomorrow?
  6. Green simrana on the left is Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji's. Think the blue one on the right is Mata Ganga Ji's. These are in the possession of Sain Makhdoom Syed Chan Pir Qadri, the 19th descendant of Sain Hazrat Mian Mir Ji who laid the foundation stone of Sri Harmandar Sahib.
  7. The views you encountered paaji are compete utter rubbish and shows a lack of knowledge about Sikhi. When my son was born, a few days after birth we invited the local giani from the gurdwara to give him a mini amrit (if you can call it that) which just entailled the reading of japji sahib and giving him 5 splashes. Kind of a new born baptism which I believe is quite common. I definately wouldn't class that as being Amritdhari.

  10. Was surprised to find the following article in The Sun, a daily UK tabloid, this morning. SIKH TERROR CELL Britain has been warned of a new terror threat from Sikh extremists linked with al-Qaeda. Experts in the US and India have told authorities they are watching a handful of British-based Sikhs who they say have trained at terror camps in Pakistan which have connections to Islamic extremists. They tell tonight's File on Four on Radio Four that they fear the radicals may be planning terrorist acts in their fight for an independent Sikh homeland. FYI: BBC Radio 4 is a UK national radio station. BBC Radio 4 Sikh extremism: Tuesday 26 February 2008, 2000 GMT, repeated Sunday 2 March 2008, 1700 GMT. With attention focussed on Islamist extremism, Armadeep Bassey asks whether the authorities are doing enough to counter the activities of UK-based Sikh groups supporting the violent campaign for an independent homeland in the Punjab. Producer: David Lewis. Editor: David Ross.
  11. 23 year old Sikh guy stabbed :umm: :<Edited>: A MANHUNT has been launched after a fatal stabbing in the early hours of this morning (Sat). The victim, a man believed to be in his 20s and of Asian origin, was involved in a row at a bus stop in Chapel Road with a black man. He had been waiting for a bus with a friend when the argument took place. Det Chief Insp John MacDonald said: "We would very much like to speak to the victim's friend who we believe was with him at the time of the murder. He hasn't yet come forward. "They both got off the 123 bus outside Greggs the bakers in Ilford town centre and then walked to get the 369 bus in Chapel Road. It was at this bus stop that the murder occurred. We believe there were people at the bus stop who witnessed the altercation who then got on the 369 bus at around 1am. We need these people to come forward." The attacker, also believed to be in his 20s, around 5ft 8in and of slim build, ran off into Clements Road and then into Winston Way. Police are keen to speak to a young couple who bumped into him as he made his escape. The woman was light skinned, with long dark hair and wore a blue dress and dark knee-high boots. The man had short dark hair and wore a white long-sleeved top and blue jeans. The victim was taken to King George Hospital, Barley Lane, Goodmayes, where he later died. A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said: "We were called to Winston Way at 1.10am and sent two fast response cars and two ambulances to the scene. "One patient had sustained stab wounds and was taken to hospital." Witnesses should call 020 8345 3985 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 11. I heard on the radio that his name was Jaspreet Singh aged 23. Very sad news indeed...

  13. Added some photos from the way up to Vali Khandhari's hut at the top of the mountain.. Easy to do for us youngersters but elders really struggle because the it is quite a steep climb. Some even stated it was harder than walking up to Hemkunt Sahib.
  14. so you saw the movie too? which singh with the mega long dhara? what scene was he in? Yes I've seen the movie. Me and my friend went to watch it one evening. We were the only two in the theatre which I found rather surprising. My friend got bored of the movie and walked out half way through. The Singh I was referring to is one of the two gursikhs who come to Amritsar and discover what has happened and only one (with long white flowing dhara) returns to inform Baba Deep Singh about what has happened whilst the other remains to take on some of the soliders.
  15. I agree someone gursikh should have played Baba Deep Singh's role. Why does everything have to be left to the imagination? I don't see it as disrespecting Baba Deep Singh's memory/life but more honoring his life and serving as an inspiration for us today. We Sikhs need to stop being so backward in our views. Showing an artists impression is exactly the same as someone playing his part. The Singh with the mega long dhara would have been perfect for the role. I give the film 5/10 for effort but it could have been a lot better.
  16. Final photos added of Nankana Sahib, Bhai Laloo's residence and more.. Enjoy I can't recommend going to Pakistan enough. The muslims there are so friendly and welcoming. They show so much respect and satkar to Sardars you will be amazed. They are the ones serving the langar to the sangat whilst japping Satnaam Waheguru. You won't believe it until you see it with your own eyes. :TH:
  17. Here are some pictures I took during my visit to the gurdwaras in Pakistan. Gurdwara Bhai Joga Singh This is gurdwara where Bhai Joga Singh took his laava. Upon reading the note from Guru Gobind Singh ji after his second laam he tied the palla to his kirpan and got up and started his journey towards Guru ji. His wife took the remaining two laava with his kirpan. Gurdwara Panja Sahib (Eimenabad) Walk to Vali Khadhari's House & Smaadh Poor Mardana had to walk up and down 3 times. Still long way to go.. Made it to the top Wish I had a photo from the top. Defies logic how Vali Khandhari managed to roll down the rock to where it is situated today. If they tell you to leave you cameras behind and that you can't take photos up there when you go don't listen to them. Wish I had taken mine. :sady: Gurdwara Sachcha Sauda This is the gurdwara where Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji served langar to the starving jogis at a very young age with the 20 rupees his father gave him to start a business. The tree under which the jogis were sitting when guru ji served them langar. Langar at Gurdwara Sachcha Sauda Gurdwara Darbar Sahib (Kartarpur) This is where Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji spent the final years of his life farming. The well from which Guru ji used to collect water. Spot where the muslims burried half of Guru ji's remaining shawl and flowers. No body was ever found. Spot where the Sikhs cremated the other half of the shawl and flowers. Gurdwara Rorri Sahib When the armies of Babar entered Punjab, Guru Nanak Dev Ji was present in Eimenabad. At the time of catpure of Eimenabad, many locals were arrested, among whom was Guru Nanak Dev Ji also. At the time of the arrest, he was sitting on the pebbles and was busy in his prayers. The Gurdwara stands at the place of the pebbles. Gurdwara Chakki Sahib When Baber captured Guru Nanak Dev Ji he was put to hard labour in a millstone. With Guru ji's nadar the Chakkis started turning on their own. Spot where Guru Nanak Dev Ji was sitting. Room in which the Chakkis started turning on their own. Gurdwara Bhai Laloo-De-Khooi The spot where Guru ji was sitting when he drew milk from Bhai Laloo's food and blood from Malik Bhagu's. Gurdwara Nankana Sahib Gurdwara Mal Ji Sahib (Nankana Sahib) This is location where the Cobra used its hood to shade Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji from the Sun. The tree still stands today. Gurdwara 6th Pathshahi Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji came to Lahore in 1619 with Chandu. It was here that he met Bibi Mata Kaulan. Steps that used to lead down to the River Ravi where Guru ji had his final ishnaan. Thara Sahib was built by Guru Hargobind Sahib at the site of the martyrdom during his visit to Lahore Gur Asthans. Samadh (Cremation ground of) Maharaja Ranjit Singh Sai Mian Mir Ji's Tomb Sai Mian Mir laid the foundation stone of Harmandar Sahib
  18. The answer to my own question is Bhai Satinderpal Singh (AKJ Ludhiana). Managed to pick up the VCD at my local gurdwara. Will convert the tracks to MP3 and try to upload somewhere.
  19. The reasoning behind asking the sangat to recite banis for 40 days is to get a person into the routine of doing paath/jaap. After 40 days you will have become so used to it and will start reliasing the benefits that it is hoped you will carry on in the practise daily.... I don't see anything wrong in setting oneself a goal of trying to do something good, positive for x number of days. The mind looks for any excuse not to partake in the rememberance of Waheguru. It is exactly the same concept when your asked to do a certain number of malas of mool mantar or waheguru jaap. For those who haven't started, it is a method of getting a person used to sitting for a period of time. Over time kirpa will come automatically. Your legs will get used to sitting, your mind will begin to focus and concentrate more. These are just small jugtiya to help people...... :TH:
  20. On Channel Punjab they show a video of a jatha singing the shabad "Sun Wadhbhagia Har Amrit Bani Ram". Anyone know who that is?
