  1. I'll tell you a true personal story.

When I was in third grade (give or take a year) I woke up and looked outside my window (my window and room is towards the street) and I saw flashing lights and heard sirens. I woke up in the morning and asked my mom on the way to class what had happened, but she nor my dad later told me. After some time they finally said what happened. It turned out that my neighbor's daughter had hung herself. My dad was on good terms with the family and the girl was a step daughter and I guess she had been bullied in the high school that I would come to attend as I went to 9th grade. Anyways, just like our neighbors, we were the first owners of the house and moved in right when they were built (some 20 years ago). They talked to my dad a little after this happened, but not too much and next we heard they were moving to another state because they couldn't take to live in the house where she commit suicide.

After they moved in another gore family moved in, very nice and educated couple with one young baby and a golden retriever. They stayed for around two and a half years and were very nice to have as neighbors. After two and a half years, they suddenly moved away and another family came in, this time it was a guy who I kid you not I still think looks exactly like the police officer from heroes (I could be crazy but I think it was him lol or a twin brother). This guy and my dad didn't get along because he didn't take care of the trees or something like that. They stayed for a year or so and then moved to some town house and I still see him driving around today and still think he's the guy from heroes haha. Anyways they moved after a year or so and then another family came in, but they didn't live there, they bought the house and redid it and hoped that the prices would go up again because house prices fell quite a bit and they counted it to jump again, little did they know the plunge wasn't even close to being over. They were Italian or Armenian or something like that, but they moved away again after a year or so. We'd see them occasionally remodeling the place and then they sold it, but this time to a Hmong family moved in. This is a couple years ago from today. Anyways we hadn't really got introduced to them, but one day my dad was out in the yard and the new neighbor lady was in the yard as well and came up to my dad and they talked for a bit discussing general things you do when you meet someone new and a new neighbor.

After they were almost done talking, the lady asked my dad weird question. She said, "Has anyone ever died in this house?". My dad at first instinctively just said no and then said, "Wait, actually some years ago the first owner's daughter had committed suicide".

Upon hearing this, the lady kind of was set back and explained why she had asked. She said her son sees a woman in a white dress at night time and she talks to him. They said at first they didn't believe him, but after hearing that someone actually died in the house and it being a girl, it freaked them out. The lady said they weren't religious but they started to put crosses up and after this my dad never really talked to them. It was the first and only time to my knowledge.

We'd notice at night time they always had relatives over and had their lights on. This went on for almost two years and now a new gore family are there who seem cool.

Okay, now the point of typing this whole story is that my room is right next to the side where their house is lol and nothing has happened to me.

If you're honest and you love our Gurus, you have nothing to worry about. Keep doing path and you don't even have to think about these things. Stick to nitnem and do it out of love bro!

Wow gripping story veer! But erm i think the poster veer asked for help lol not to be freaked out even more with new horror stories!! :s LOL

  2. Bina Khan 'Bio hair oil'. i believe its only available from her salons or welljuice.com. i can vouch for this product, it works pretty well. apply it and leave on for 1-2hours and then wash out. within two weeks, you'll notice tiny little hairs come out. it doesnt work on say your knuckles or places where hair has never grown.

  3. Wow all this for a brother who came to ask a few questions. Whats with the hatred guys? Bringing Islam into every topic of discussion asthough Auzur somehow represents the Islamic nation?.

His points are valid on the quotes some of the sites give supposably from the Qur'an. Why support the Christian missionaries by using their BS to justify yourself?

Did our Guru Sahibaan ever quote the Qur'an to find faults or contradictions? And they are our Guru Sahib!! What knowledge or understanding have we that we dare to quote or question another faith?

"shaj ta bole, shaanani ki bole jis vich shati-soh shake ne?"

If you think his intentions are wrong, report him. Ignore him, get on with your life. Be the bigger better person. But dont stoop to such a level at which you find yourself questioning anothers faith.

    Pul chuk maaf ji

  4. If its a non religious college, why serve halal meat? Why fulfill the needs of one group yet ignore those of the rest?

The majority of practicing Sikhs practice lacto-vegetarianism. So they will most likely bring packed lunches anyway. But for those Sikhs who do not fully practice their religion and therefore may choose to eat meat, will not eat halal meat as not only is it a religious food as it is prayed upon in the name of Allah by Muslims, but it is also killed in a manner which most consider inhumane or less painful than standard means by stunning and then killing. http://www.newscientist.com/mobile/article/dn17972-animals-feel-the-pain-of-religious-slaughter.html

Any person of any faith other than Islam will be discriminated against by the introduction of halal meat to the college. Strongly advise against it.

  5. Veer u wil trim ur beard and then u will find theres something else that isnt perfect or neat or is messy. Then ul trim that. But what if your nose is too big? Or ur eyes too small? Will you cut and trim them too? Your kes are a part of your body. They too are your body parts.

In my opinion, my perception, a full flowing dhara looks amazing! Looks neat and beautiful just how our Dasam Pita would want us to look. Veer it all comes down to opinion and perception. The difference between us and people who cut their kes is, we are the Lions, the Singhs, the Leaders, and those who trim and cut their kes are sheep. They cut their kes so they can fit in, look like others. Seriously, what a sad sad life!

Can you imagine asking those same questions to Dasam Pita? Could you imagine Guru Maharaajs response?

Veerji Ardas kar that Maharaaj gives you strength to cut away these urges you are having.

    Pul chuk maaf ji

  6. The yogis do tapasiya for years on end high up in the mountains leaving behind all that they have just so that they can attain a level of peace, control over their minds, to purify their hearts. Guruji gave us Bani and Bana and Amrit. When Guruji requested Amrit from the Panj Piaray, he did Ardas that i will give you my whole family in return for 5bhuk of Amrit. All this so we today could live with our heads held high, attain mukhti by taking Amrit and living life according to our Gurujis Hukum.

If you think its possible to attain mukhti without, go ahead try it. If you can clear your mind, have control over it, attain peace without Amrit, without Gurujis humuk, without Naam, CONGRATULATIONS! You've just found the shortcut to what the yogis and sadhus have been working towards for years on end.

It disgusts me that you would rather Sikhs "cut [their] hair", give up their Sikhi, be a traitor to their Guru Sahib who gave his whole family so we today could live in peace, just so it would be "much easier to get up and get ready" in the mornings?!

You may know "sikhs" who are superstitious, it doesnt make the whole 30odd million Sikhs superstitious. What a daft thing to say!

You think theres no need for Sikhi saroop? Are you in Sikhi saroop? How can you say theres no need for something you have not tried or experienced? There is very much a need for Sikhi saroop today perhaps more than ever before. But i wouldnt expect a sheep to understand this. This is a concept known only to the Singhs. The Singhs who have and will continue to save the ars* of people like yourself.

You ask if Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj tells us anything about keeping Sikhi saroop? I do not have enough knowledge to give you a quote, perhaps my more knowledgable brothers and sisters can help you with that. But, Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaaj created the Khalsa with Amrit. Guruji is our tenth Master, our father. His word is as true, meaningful and relevant as the word of our Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj. So whether or not Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj tells us to keep Sikhi saroop or not, our Dasam Pita does!!

Secondly to that question, Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj is not a book, it is not a collection of rules, dos and donts unlike the Holy Books of say Islam, Christianity, Judaism. Guru ji is Dhur Ki Bani. The literal word of Akal Purkh Maharaaj!

    Pul chuk maaf ji

Mars bars get veggie status back

    _42921065_mars203pa.jpg

The move affected Masterfoods' chocolate and ice cream bars

Mars has abandoned plans to use animal products in its chocolate, and has apologised to "upset" vegetarians.

The firm had said it would change the whey used in some of its products from a vegetarian source to one with traces of the animal enzyme, rennet.

The Vegetarian Society organised a campaign against the move, asking members to voice their concerns to parent company Masterfoods.

Mars said it became "very clear, very quickly" that it had made a mistake.

In just one week, more than 6,000 people bombarded the company, which produces the Mars, Snickers, Maltesers and Galaxy brands, with phone and e-mail complaints.

Forty MPs also signed a petition to voice their opposition.

Fiona Dawson, managing director of Mars UK, said the company had listened to customers and decided to reverse its decision.

"The consumer is our boss and we had lots of feedback from consumers who were unhappy about the change," Ms Dawson said.

"It became very clear, very quickly that we had made a mistake, for which I am sorry.

"There are three million vegetarians in the UK and not only did we disappoint them, but we upset a lot of the consumers."

    'Principled decision'

The Vegetarian Society had called the move by Mars "incomprehensible" and "a backward step" at a time when consumers were increasingly concerned about "the provenance of their food".

Mars replied that, by admitting its products were no longer suitable for "extremely strict vegetarians", it was making a "principled decision".

Now it insists it will begin changing its recipes back immediately.

Dr Annette Pinner, chief executive of the Vegetarian Society, said she was pleased Mars had been "honest enough" to admit it had "made a mistake".

"A Masterfoods representative has made contact with us and we are very pleased that they now recognise the importance of integrity to all their customers, especially vegetarians," she added.

Rennet is extracted from calves' stomachs and was to have been used in the ice cream versions of all Masterfoods' bars too.

oh man pheeewww!! i can get back to eating my minstrels! yay

    Mars starts using animal products

    _42921065_mars203pa.jpg

    Masterfoods' brands are household names

Some of the UK's best-selling chocolate bars, such as Mars and Twix, will no longer be suitable for vegetarians.http://www.sikhsangat.com/Index.php?app=forums&module=post&section=post&do=new_post&f=2

Also affecting brands such as Snickers and Maltesers, owner Masterfoods said it had started to use animal product rennet to make its chocolate products.

Masterfoods said the change was due to it switching the sourcing of its ingredients and the admission was a "principled decision" on its part.

The Vegetarian Society said the company's move was "incomprehensible".

    'Extremely disappointed'

Masterfoods said it had started using rennet from 1 May and non-affected products had a "best before date" up to 1 October.

    Vegetarian Society

Rennet, a chemical sourced from calves' stomachs, is used in the production of whey.

It will now also be found in Bounty, Minstrels and Milky Way products, and the ice cream versions of all Masterfoods' bars.

"If the customer is an extremely strict vegetarian, then we are sorry the products are no longer suitable, but a less strict vegetarian should enjoy our chocolate," said Paul Goalby, corporate affairs manager for Masterfoods.

The Vegetarian Society said it was "extremely disappointed".

"At a time when more and more consumers are concerned about the provenance of their food, Masterfoods' decision to use non-vegetarian whey is a backward step," it said in a statement.

"Mars products are very popular with young people and many will be shocked to discover that their manufacture now relies on the extraction of rennet from the stomach lining of young calves," it added.

  9. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh ji

where can the Karninama be found?

and could someone please clear this up for me- i have googled and people are saying the Karninama is not gurmat, not Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaaj's bani as if it was, it would be recorded in Sri Adi Granth Sahib by Sri Guru Arjun Dev Ji Maharaaj. Also there is no mention from Bhai Gurdas ji. and the anti-islamic'ness.

Pul chuk maaf ji. I dont mean to offend and nor am i anyone to question.

  10. although you will hardly take my advice here i go anyway;

    1. Its your duty to respect your fathers wishes

    2. This is hardly a serious issue as compared to say say violence/alcoholism

    3. If your wearing a simple nok dastar stops fighting in your home then just wear a simple nok dastar, a dumalla or a nok dastar are both acceptable

    4. Wear your siri sahib under your clothes hence it is not visible

    5. If your father doesnt want you staying up all night at rehnasbhai just go for a littlw while say till 9pm the come home - there are usually divaans every day at the Gurdwara, nobody will go to them but emphasis is placed on the annual international mega rehansabahi with the attendance of "great musicians"

The bottom line is that you are young and hence your parents tend to be more over powering wait till your say 23/24 they will chillout, in the mean time accept your fathers wishes and do ardas and kamai before Satguru Siri Guru Gobind Sahib Ji that he may give your parents higher thinking.

SSingh96, the above is possibly the best advice anyone can give you. Your young, 16, your parents want to control your every action for what they see as your own sake. been there, worn the t-shirt.

Dumalla or nok dastar, a dastar is a dastar veer. If your parents want you wearing a 'tradtional punjabi' dastar then go with that. its not about looks veer. Keep your parents happy and slowly they'll 'back off'. and dont worry, im sure your parents wont throw you out of the house...heard this threat as a youth many times haha...

As for your sri sahib and rehnsbhai, PAL 07 gives you the best advice.

  11. I don't think Vedanti said it's not Gurbani, he disputed it with Maan over the context to which it was said. Vadanti at the time was under Badal's control and had to raise his voice against any independence slogans of the Sikhs. I could be wrong, but I think this Tukh is from Gyan Prabodh Bani. Maybe someone knowledgeable in Dasam Bani can comment.

" “Raj bina nahi dharm chale hai...,” which, Mann said, was part of Gurbani. Vedanti contradicted it, accusing Mann of misleading the Sikh community by relating it to Gurbani. "
