  2. this topic has gone on too long, over 15 pages on a topic that has nothing to do with sikhi, there are many topics i've noticed on here where people are asking geniune good questions about how to improve their jeevan etc and there are hunderds of views and maybe 1 reply and in some cases none and yet a thread like this gets so much attention, the bottom line is we are wasting our time by watching tv, we will happily sit and watch a three hour film like scarface no problem, but when the times come to do some path or simeran we arent prepared to do it for three hours, tv is a massive waste of time, count up the hours you watch tv in a day and see how much it comes to, the average person watches 4 5 hours a day if not more, and the time wasted watching tv can be spent doing simeran or listening to katha. i dont mean to have a go beceasue I am not one to talk myself I used to watch hours of tv before but now I dont watch any but still on some occasions watch the footie when liverpool are playing. the below video is very good Bhul chuk maaf karni
  3. WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH today is the parkash diharha of dhan dhan baba Nand Singh Ji, Dhan Dhan baba Nand singh ji was a pooran Bramgiani who showed the world how to keep proper Satkar of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, below is a small glimpse of their jivan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HiuzxCV9iU Bhul chuk mark
  4. Waheguru Ji Ka khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh I have lots of Gurus photos at home mostly cut out from the des pardes paper and from calenders etc, but I don't know what to do with them, I must have at least 15-20 photos mainly of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Guru Gobind Singh Ji but I have no space for these as my house is only small, I once heard that you should burn the photos and should not throw them in the bin, can some body please advise if this is okay to do, also what is the need to print the Guru's photos on newspapers and calendars etc, Also I have one photo which has the first 6 or 7 seven pauris of Sri Japji Sahib on it and this is ripped a bit so is it okay to burn this as well, also are these pictures true repersentation's of our gurus the below link is very good. finally just to add there is a paper called mann jit weekly which some of the sangat must of heard off, this paper always has ik onkar printed in it, and I have ripped these out of the paper as well and I have loads of these is well, it is Bani at the end of the day and it is being disrespected by putting it in papers as most people throw papers in bins as well so is it okay to burn this as well. Bhul chuk marf Karni sad sangat ji
  5. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh I want to improve my punjabi speaking skills, at the moment I can speak good punjabi meaning I can have conversations with other people but I can not have in depth conversations about sikh history for example and many times I am explaning something in punjabi and I put some english in there as my vocabularly lets me down, I was watching this katha once on either sangat or sikh channel can't remeber now but there was this chardi kala bibi who was born in germany to a white family and she read up on sikhism and took amrit and she went to india and she was doing Katha in fluent punjabi, she learnt how to read and write and speak in india, I was very ashamed at this point as I come from a punjabi background and I cant speak fluent punjabi and this bibi coming from a white background has learned.another problem is some times when listening to katha at the Gurdwara most of the times I cannot understand what they are saying, I can get the jist of what they are saying but I miss the main point. What I want to do is go to damdami Taksal in India and learn how to speak punjabi fluently and be taught shud santhiya, I have been searching online but can't find any information, can you just go there and will they teach anyone, do they have set timetables etc, the reason I want to go to taksal is because all I want to do in my life is read as much bani as possible, do as much simeran as possible and learn as much as I can about our history and engage in as much bhagti as I can, and by going to taksal i will be able to conentrate without distractions soley on sikhi and nothing else, so can any sangat help me out with any details it would be very much appreciated. Thank you
  6. Waheguru Ji ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh sad sangat ji last week in belgium there was a terrible tradegy as four sikhs were murdered while at their home in belguim, the murdered were three young children and their mother, there father found them after coming back from work, they intially arrested him but they have now found out it was a bangladeshi male who they are in pursit off http://zeenews.india...der_804402.html The point of this post is we including myself have to put things in perspective, we always moan about silly things like oh my car isn't working so I had to walk , or its raining outside etc while there are people out there in africa dying of starvation and water etc, we are very lucky that be have all the basic neccesites of life that we need but are we truely grateful, how many of us wake up and thank God for everything he has given us, how many of us are in chardi kala, the answer is not very many, we waste so much time wathcing tv films, doing idle gossip and talking behind peoples back doing nindya, I once asked this Gursikh why he is so quiet as he does not speak much he told me he does not have any gyan and if he does not have anything worthwhile to say then why waste time speaking, surfing the internet for useless things, playing ps3 wii xobox, how many of us are alwasy on our iphones and andriods 24/7 when we could be doing simeran, seva or reading bani. What I mean to say now we should stop wasting time and stop moaning about stupid things and realise what we have compared to other people and start sorting our own jeevans out cuz mine at the moment is down the gutter ive acculumated so much paap, the point of life is to be one with Waheguru so lets try and achieve this I hope maharaj gives strength to Jasbir singh who was the father and husband to the deceased to get through this tough time and to bless those poor souls whose lives were lost. Bhul chuk marf karna sangat Ji I am just a fool trying to walk on the right path
  7. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Fateh Sad sangat Ji please watch this two miniute video below
  8. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh I have been meaning to post this for ages now, the thing is I don't understand gurbani, i used to be a mona and for 2 years now I have kept my kesh and dhari and with Guru Ji's Kirpa have also took amrit, but even now when I go to the Gurdwara i dont understand the shabd that is sung during the kirtian unless I check on siki to the max for example, and the katha some are easy to understand but the majority I don't understand a thing, and the hukamnama its the same as I dont understand it unless i put it into sikihi to the max. my punjabi is good in the sense that I can have a decent conversation and understand other people but with the katha it is more complex and harder to understand. my point of this post is how can you improve your understanding of Gurbani, I live in wolverhampton and I go to santhiya class every week and I can now read gurbani but without looking at the english translation I wont know what I am saying, there are many classes which teach you how to read gurmukhi but not many at all which show you what the meaning behind it is, so I thought to myself that I want to go to punjab and join a school where I can learn gurmukhi and understand it properly, for example I know there are schools such as damdami taksal and sukrit trust but how do you get in touch with them and will they let me join or not. I think this understanding of gurbani is a big probelm for western born Sikhs as speaking with other singhs they all said that they cannot understand katha and the arth (meaning) of Gurbani, and without understanding gurbani properly how can you improve your jeevan. The main reason I want to learn in punjab is because I know if I stay there for 1 year 2 years I know my understanding of Sikhi will improve massively and I will be able to understand the meanings behind Gurbani and be able to speak fluent Punjabi and understand what is being said in katha etc. Bhul Chuk Marf
