  1. I never knew that only an amritdhari Sikh is allowed to do chaur sahib. I'm not amritdhari I have done chaur sahib a few times.
  2. Thats what it seemed like to me I watched it like 5 times
  3. I didn't say anything bad about him all I said was that is what I have heard about him.
  4. I heard he had protested against the movement in 1984 and stated that Punjab should keep peace with India? Maybe I am wrong but that is what I have heard.
  5. There are MANY things I disagree with on you post. For example I strongly disagree with your statement about 1984. However that is not what I am going to address. But this portion that you wrote about really struck me. You say you have learned a lot about Sikh History, well then you must have heard about Mai Bhago or Mai Bhag Kaur. I suggest you look her up on google, and realize that she was a woman who fought. And that there are several women like her.
  6. Just a question, what about non Sikhs who have utmost respect for Guru Granth Sahib, they read bani do path and know the basics but get married to a Sikh? What does it mean to accept Sikhi then partake in anand karaj? I know of a non Sikh girl who got married to a Sikh Guy in a Gurdwara and now she does a lot of seva at the Gurdwara does path and reads bani. So where do we define if someone is doing anand karaj without any respect and understanding vs respect and understanding? I personally do not agree with two people partaking in Anand Karaj Ceremony who do not believe in Guru Sahib or Gurbani. If they do not accept Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj as their Guru then what is the point of partaking in Anand Karaj?
  7. Allah is a name for Akal Purakh Waheguru Ji. Bābā alhu agam apār. O Baba, the Lord Allah is Inaccessible and Infinite. Alāhu alakẖ agamm kāḏar karanhār karīm. He is Allah, the Unknowable, the Inaccessible, All-powerful and Merciful Creator. Alhu gaib sagal gẖat bẖīṯar hirḏai leho bicẖārī. Allah is hidden in every heart; reflect upon this in your mind. Ko▫ī sevai gus▫ī▫ā ko▫ī alāhi. ||1|| Some serve Him as 'Gusain', others as 'Allah'. Ėko alhu pārbarahm. ||5||34||45|| The Muslim God Allah and the Hindu God Paarbrahm are one and the same. ||5||34||45|| Ang 897 Therefore that is quite an ignorant thing to say. Allah and Waheguru are the same. You may disagree with Islam and Muhammad but Allah is another name for Waheguru. Muslims may use Allah for different purposes. But for a Sikh, Allah is another word for Waheguru like God, Ram etc. So its disrespectful to say anything towards the name Allah.
  8. Well you do realize that the menstruation blood comes from the Uterus, not the bladder. And everyone including you stayed in that uterus for 9 months.
  9. Only five ji, the points you made earlier were very interesting. When I had read this tuk I had a lot of confusion because according to the rest of the shabad, this tuk did not seem like it can be implied to manmat. The rest of the shabad is about Akal Purakh Waheguru Ji Sacheh patshah ji is Ajooni therefore that is why I thought maybe the translation is incorrect. But this Gurbani Tuk can be interpreted to represent the pyaar one may have for Waheguru Ji. For example Guru Gobind Singh Ji's shabad, Yararrae Dha Sanoon Sathhar Changa Bhath Khaerria Dha Rehina || Guru Sahib Ji uses the story of Ranjha and Heer as a metaphor to exemplify the love and quest for Waheguru Ji. Maybe Guru Sahib Ji is trying to say that, that is how much pyaar he has for Akal Purakh Ji the love being represented as the love between a preetam and preetam's pyaareh how a preetam's pyaareh would rather die before the preetam dies. That love between the preetam and preetam's pyaareh is like how one loves Satguru Ji. I may be COMPLETELY wrong about all of this but its just a way of interpreting Gurbani.
  10. Wow veerjii thank you so much for sharing this story with me it really clears up the definition behind this Gurbani Tuk. I never knew about Gurmukh Singh Ji. Waheguru Waheguru Waheguru :waheguru: :waheguru: :waheguru: :waheguru:
  11. I don't listen to much rap or any music matter of fact but there is this one rapper that I have recently been exposed to his name is Lupe Fiasco. He always raps about corruption, respect for women, government, corruption, rights etc. So I suppose not all rap is bad. This kind of rap music etc will help us realize the corruption and what is going on in this world we live in. For example, by listening to some of this guy's songs I have learned about so many things that go on in American politics etc etc. However, Kirtan is what will help us grow in Sikhi and be closer to Akal Purakh like ghatak ji mentioned.
  12. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Sangat Ji as I was doing path from Maharaj, I came across a tuk on ang 83. Jis Piaarae Sio Naehu This Aagai Mar Chaleeai || Die before the one whom you love; Dhhrig Jeevan Sansaar Thaa Kai Paashhai Jeevanaa ||2|| To live after he dies is to live a worthless life in this world. ||2|| Can someone please explain the context of this tuk? Bhul Chuk Maaf
  13. Thank you sangat ji but I also wanted to say that I do speak and understand punjabi very well but a lot of the kathas I tried to listen to were very deep and went above my comprehension due to my lack of gian.
  14. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh I'm pretty sure this topic may have been discussed elsewhere but I could not find it. Recently I have really been striving to listen to some katha for inspiration and I started listening to a few of Giani Sant Singh Maskeen Ji's kathas however it all went above my comprehension. I was wondering if Sangat Ji could list some sadhi, simple katha which is easy to comprehend for someone like me who does not have much gian. Bhul Chuk Maaf Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh
  15. I think its mostly because the bride is decked up wearing a long lehnga and all so just to help her and make sure she doesn't fall.
  16. Maybe I am not understanding but what is the harm in this ??
  17. LOL veerji that is absolutely true! :lol2: A LOT of the time the committee stands in the way of any sort of progress. What to do about the committee members?
  18. I think the parents have a strong influence in a girl's life. A lot of parents just care about either making money, looking nice, socially acceptable etc etc. First off children of both gender should not be allowed to participate in activities that demean themselves. For example, if a mother sees her daughter walk outside wearing a tank top and mini skirt, it shouldn't be allowed it should be stopped by the parents. If a son comes home late night drunk, parents should not be ok with it. Most cases we see that parents are very lenient with children thinking that they are in a western country therefore children are just adapting. This is wrong mentality. Also I believe that sometimes parents do not do a good job in instilling Sikhi values into their children. And parents are just too lenient sometimes. However we can't blame parents for all of it though. Because sometimes parents try everything they can to raise their child right but the child turns out to do such acts. So I am not advocating that only parents are at fault but sometimes it can be the parents and how they raise their child.
  19. Well Veerji wouldn't this exclude sehajdhari Sikhs who have not yet taken Amrit but are on the path to do so or sehajdhari Sikhs who are not amritdhari but read lots of bani and naam simran?
  20. If you could find this saakhi can you share it with the sangat? I would like to know the circumstances surrounding this saakhi. Dhanvaad :biggrin2:
  21. Sant Ji says that this is the reason why 5 pyaareh seva is for men. Not because this seva is "meant for men." Its up to any bibi whether they think that they can do maharaja's seva I don't think anyone has the right to tell her if she can or not. Not to be explicit but that comment can also go towards people who have to use the bathroom while doing tabiya. They can feel the pressure to go to the bathroom at any time. So does that mean we all shouldn't do seva? I'm sorry but this point didn't really make sense to me. A woman can prepare herself if she has to do seva. She can wear proper protection before doing rol. When I am on my period I don't feel "unclean" in any way. A Bibi can do kesi ishnaan and make sure that no accident will happen before she goes for rol. I guess it all just comes down to personal sharda. I personally think that it should be a woman's decision. Not anyone else's decision. Guru Sahib did not prohibit us from doing seva therefore no one else should try to also. I do not think menstruation causes any problem to suchamta unless the woman goes unprepared. Usually women know around what time their period will come. I know that I need to be fully prepared. Especially if I am doing seva. These kind of issues shouldn't become a do or don't issue. We argue a lot of about do's and donts. Why not just go according to personal sharda?
  22. Brother I will be content if you can find any Hukumnama from Guru Sahib or any reliable GURMAT source that claims that menstruation causes a problem to suchta? I understand that touching your eyes, ears, mouth will cause problem to suchamta. But not to be explicit brother, once again there is a large difference between menstruation and touching your eyes, ears, and mouth. Brother I'm not trying to argue or debate I am just asking for a Hukumnama or any reliable GURMAT source supporting your claim.
  23. Brother there is a huge difference between a wound and a woman menstruating. No matter how many biology classes one takes etc etc only a woman would be able to understand this. Waheguru Akal Purakh created this natural system. Brother you make it sound like it is a curse to be menstruating because we cannot do path from Maharaj Ji during this time. Guru Sahib is our father yes we are to keep as much suchta as we can around maharaj, I dont believe it is right to exclude women just because its their time of the month.
  24. Just my two cents on this. Some people justify women not being able to do kirtan in Darbar Sahib due to the amount of sangat that comes to do darshan of Guru Sahib and the bibi may be subjected to lustful thoughts. However, thinking of Mai Bhago, she fought against Mughal Soldiers. Being a woman she held a sword/gun and fought against MEN. There weren't Muslim women fighting against her she was fighting against Muslim men. How come no one in those times complained and said, "Oh we shouldnt allow Mai Bhago to fight because she might be subjected to lustful thoughts yada yada?" Because Mai Bhago was a Singhnee and no one can dare look at a Singhnee with wrongful thoughts. Guru Gobind Singh Jee didnt think of veiling our women like the Muslims do. Muslim's veil their women because they do not want anyone looking at them with lustful eyes. However, Guru Sahib banned this practice for us. Why? Because if a man looks at a woman with lustful thoughts, he is harming his jeevan not hers. Then why confine women behind this "veil" of do's and dont's? I think the reason why we dont see a lot of women playing more roles at the Guru Ghar's is because of the Punjabi Mentality. As good things that may be attributed to Punjabi Culture, there are a lot of bad ones also. This is Punjabi Mentality to not let women do this and that etc etc. A woman's period should not be a reason for her to not do seva. I have heard this mentality before also. That women can't do akhand path this and that if she is on her period. That is again muslim mentality where women are not allowed to pray or fast during their period. God created this system of menstruation. Therefore, why can a woman not sing God's praises, do path from Guru Granth Sahib Ji while she is on her period? In Sikhi our goal is to jap naam with every breath we have. That doesnt mean we cant jap naam during our period etc etc... In fact we are to jap naam 24/7. If that is our Goal in Sikhi then why not allow women to sing God's praises during their menstruation? By the way I know no one on this thread mentioned this being the reason why women aren't allowed to do certain things but it is a mentality that I have heard several times before therefore I decided to address it. I am a manmukh I dont have gian therefore if I have said anything to hurt anyone I ask for forgiveness from the sangat in advance. Bhul Chuk Maaf.
