  1. I feel that this kind of topic gets really out of hand when it becomes religion vs science. On one side upu have people saying its ones bad deeds in past life that they are this way in this life. Meanwhile on the other hand you have those that believe when a mother is pregnant their were something wrong with the chromosomes. I think its really ill to thibk or judge a little child with disabilities by saying they have done something bad in their previous lIfe and therefore they are disabled now. As sikhs i thought we are not suppose to be quick to judge? I rather like to think of it as it is what it is. Every person is unique whether he or she is so called normal or is disabled.
  2. I believe that if he didn't intentionally do something then the power of Ardaas should not be underestimated. My dad was caught up in a lawsuit like 20 some years ago but he was innocent because my dad is a simple humble man some gorays trying to get money out of him. He had a strong faith in Guru ji and so did my mom. She did a lot of paath and ardaas for him and my dad was proven not guilty. They(they witnesses) admitted that it wasn't him but some other guy. I personally believe that ardaas to Guru ji is very powerful but for the right reasons. If it was unintenionally done and did not mean to harm anyone. Remember that Guru ji is always watching and punishes those that try to play Him. And if he is cleared from the case make sure he should be thankful of Guru ji! P.S If he committed a tax fraud that obviously he knew what he was doing so he should have seen that coming.
  3. I think people just find only the youth to blame and I'm serious tired of this. Stop blaming the youth, yes they are partially to be blamed for their actions but not entirely. Part of it is the parents, gurdwara committies, media, and western culture. Some parents are too busy working that they don't teach their kids the simple well known facts about Sikhi. I'm always so suprised that I've seen other Punjabis(Sikhs) that have been brought up in India and have come to U.S in their late teens don't know much about Sikhi even though they are more exposed to it in India than the youth that was brought up here. I was about 7 when I came to the U.S but I know how to do the paath and I know the basic facts of Sikhi because my parents made sure we knew about Sikhi about my culture. Some parents don't put restrictions on their kids early on in life and when those teenage years hit they are not going to listen to the parents. And it's at that time when they try to divert their kids back to Sikhi which will not happen after they have been so exposed to other things in life. The other thing that is to blame is some gurdwaras who care more about politics than about teaching the youth about Sikhi. Our Gurdwara has had its ups and downs. Politics is still huge here, no one on the committe is young and therefore they are not able to understand the youth. Luckily they have couple of Great Sikhs here that know spreading the message to the youth is very important so they give lectures in English, they have classes in english, activities for the youth(such as dastaar contest). They have screens in the darbar hall which translates the kirtan in english and they have tvs in the langar hall so sangat still is connected to Guru ji. Those are some good aspects of it but I feel a lot of them come to the langar hall to gossip which is mostly done by the elder ladies. They are the ones that need to set a good example that Gurdwara Sahib is pavitaar and we come their to come closer to Guru ji to learn about Guru ji and not to gossip. But I guess our community doesn't really have a lot of events outside of the Gurdwara Sahib where all the Sikhs can get together and chat and leave the Gurdwara solely for connecting with Guru ji. People should stop blaming the youths because they just didn't decide one day "Oh I'm not gonna follow Sikhi." Elder generation needs to take a iniative to help them steer this way by coming up with unique fresh solutions that would appeal to the youth. Especially the Gurdwara Sahib committe that doesn't really seem to be concerned about the youth.

  11. Yea Guru Ji wouldn't want you to move out like that. You need to stand up for what you believe in. Just take Amrit and continue to live with your family. The power of Amrit is so strong that your father won't be able to stay mad at you. Just stay positive and think thoroughly threw that your ready to take Amrit. I'm confident that your family will also change their view towards you and towards the Power of Amrit.
  12. My parents are the opposite they want me to take amrit but I'm just not fully ready. I think you don't need to take his permission from anyone. Your not out to do anything bad. This is a great step. Maybe your dad feels guilty because he's not amritdhari? (sorry i don't mean to be rude). He probably doesn't want others to think that the son is amritdhari and the dad isn't. Just don't worry dad might be mad in the beginning but as he sees you in that roop he will be proud of you. Just go for it. You should consider yourself lucky that Guru ji gave that courage to take amrit. Just stay strong and proud. Good luck to you.
  13. WJKK WJKF So I wanted to start a new topic about healthy yet simple recipies. But I wanted to take a poll if people would agree and like to have this topic? Thanks
  14. My brother got it done about two years ago. Very successful in his case. No more glasses and contacts. Of course there are precautions which depends on your age and health. My dad got it done this past 6 months ago even though i did not want him to due to his age and him being a diabetic but still successful. Better to consult a doctor than to go by others experiences. Defintely thoroughly think threw it first
  15. I agree with the above member there's no point of dwelling over what already happened. Rather focus on the present and the future. Sometimes we have to go through bad deeds and time for good ones to develop. A lot of people have had bad incidents in their life but the point is to rise above it. Which you are obviously doing. I think it's very courageous of you to do paath by yourself at the gurdwara just keep doing that and don't think what others think of you. Because then there would be no point of doing paath if you are caught up in what others think. Just keep your head up and keep doing paath and seva and Guru ji will definetly give you peace of mind.
  16. "Any knowledge of dangerous Amritdhari's who are pledged to commit murders, arson and acts of terrorism, should immediately be brought to the notice of the authorities. These people might appear harmless from outside but they are basically commited to terrorism. In the interest of all of us their identity and whereabouts must always be disclosed." This was what Indira Gandhi said before Operation Woodrose to the magazine http://gurmatbibek.com/forum/read.php?3,14301,14336
  17. For me personally its more about how I feel about it. I do paath, agarbaati, jot jagani and i personally cant wrap my head around having meat in around those pavitaar places. Once again i would like to state its my personal opinion whether or nOt to eat it because thats what I was taught and it doesnt matter. if its written or not but its a personal choice and i was asking for opinion about how to have him stop not to have an argument whether or not Sikhs can have eat it or not. Bhul chukh muaaf
  18. So basically if I originally said i will do mala but i want to do japji sahib it should be fine? Thanks
  19. Well I had asked the adm in my first comment not to close this because I'm not asking why or why arent we allowed to eat meat but how can I stop my husband. I just mentioned the statement u quoted becuz someone said to look up halal and jhatka and thats where the question arose. There is no doubt in my mind that whether Sikhs should eat or not meat i know my opiniom and my answer to that which is NO. Anyways if the admin wants to close this thread they can because i've gotten some hopefully good solutions that might work for my husband. Thanks to everyone who responded
  20. Alright thanks...i'm just going to end this topic here lolz..thanks to everyone for the insight!
  21. Can someone look at this video. It's very disturbing. The guy says Guru ji ate meat also. I don't know how I go on to report this?...I feel like I opened a can of worms.
