  1. Ok so I looked up the videos on youtube about halal and jhatka tradition and I'm totally grossed out. I have seen the jhatka tradition at our house in Punjab when we had paath and the Nihangs came and did that to the bakra. Never understood why but anyways. I was watching this one video and the guy said Guru ji said Jhatka is jayaz meaning right over the haalal tradition. What the heck? I thought it was in Sikhi not to eat meat, now i don't even know. Maybe I misunderstood the video. I dnt know if I'm allowed to put that on here or no?
  2. I did not mean to offend anyone but I just thought it would be nice to see katha for a change and see sangat enjoying it with the same devotion. Just because something has been going on for a certain way that it has to stay like that. I personally feel that by listening to katha you become closer to Guru ji at a different level and same with Kirtan. And I did not mean to put everyone in the same category by making that statement but I've seen a lot of that there. I'm from there and live real closeby and went everyday and was stating what I have seen. And yes I have seen very devotional beings there also that when you look at them you want to become like them. And yes I did mention that there is Katha going on outside by the Akal Takhat Sahib but why can't it be done inside where the Kirtan takes place? I guess that's really my question. It should be given the same attention. And why does it have to be one over the other? Both revolve around Sikhi so I really don't see why it can't be done more often and that too inside by the Guru Granth Sahib ji. Yes there is a lot to do at the Gurdwara Sahib for those who understands Sikhi I never made that as an argument.
  3. I do agree with you that most of them are very opinionated but I'm sure there are some that purely do katha on gurbani. We used to have couple of them here at our Gurdwara Sahib and man you know u just want to sit still and keep listening to It. It would be nice if they did something different realted to Gurbani.
  4. So I was watching Gurbani from Harmandir Sahib and was thinking how come there is always only kirtan being done 24 hours? I personally believe that there should be some kaatha or lecture about Sikhi that will go into the listeners ears. I sometimes feel that people just come to take maatha, take parshaad, and eat laangar. And then they go home. People come from all over the world to Harmandar Sahib but really dont experience Sikhi, they just leave after doing those three things. From my understanding during Guru Arjun Ji's time kaatha was being done why is that not happening now? Only place I've seen it is like by Akal Takht Sahib where there are only few people listening. Is there a way to contact The commitee at Harmandar Sahib for this change?
  5. I guess I will try that after looking up all these terms as I have no idea what that is. Thanks
  6. Oh thank you so much for clarifying that. Your right its nanaksar sahib. I did mistake baba isher singh ji. Shows how much I remember! Quick question what if I dont remember which paath I said I would do so how would I go about finishing it? I woul want to finish it now so i dont forget it again! Thank you so much for the insight i appreciate it.
  7. So I was just looking up Baba Isher Singh Ji Rara Sahib wale and i remembered that the first time we went to the Gurdwara Sahib there was like the taap aasthan but you could only go if you do certain amount paaths in a certain amount of time(there was a board there). Since we were curious we did ardaas that we would do it so we could see what was down there. It was anazing down there. So my question is that since I didnt actually finish those paaths would I be punished by the Guru Ji? What can I do now since stupid as it may sound that I just remembered now after like 6 years? Thanks
  8. I agree with you on this. If the girl has bern around a lot of turban wearing men and guys she will have a different perspective than a girl who hasnt been around them. I will give u my example. For 10 years of my life i lived in a only white community and the only sardars there were my dad who wore a turban and my younger brother who wore a patka. I was about 16 till we were there and I had told myself I would only marry a mona because I was exposed to guys my age wearing paghs. Dad doesnt count! So we moved to Seattle which has a good amount of Punjabi community. And i would have thought there would be some guys my age wearings turbans but no. Most actually probably like 80% were monay and the others were either young and wore patkas or wore turbans like a maniac. So still i thought no way i will only marry a mona. So we went back to India for the first time in India at the age of 18 and I was so suprised at the guys wearing turbans. I know its more like a fashion trend but still they are wearing turbans. I was amazed how good a guy can look in a turban if its tied properly. And from then on my mind slowly started changing about marrying a mona over a turban guy. As we went back home in the next couple yrs i got even more determined that i would only marry a guy that wears a turban and thats what i did. A guy looks totally different in a turban than one as a mOna. So basically it all depends on how much and what kind exposure one experienced in that particular category.
  9. Can you explain the three gunns? I really dont know anything about them. And your right whatever we are doing in this life is due to our past life. So quick question if a person eats meat mow in this life what does that say about his past life? I talked to my parents about it today how I can make him stop but their answer was the same either he does it by himself or Guru jo will do kirpa on him and hopefully he will stop. I guess im just a very impatient person and just want it to stop now. Thanks for the advice!
  10. Well its hard especially at this apartment being smaller than a house with all the smells and live cooking. I tried to ignore it but our kitchen is open to the living room and when i see it i cant stop myself to pass a comment. I will try that. Hopefully it might work for him but i feeling it wont. Thanks
  11. Well as far as my buwa jis case its true. Most everyone that knows her know this. They call it Shaheeda da pahera lagna. My mum and others have seen it with their own eyes and its so strong that for couple hours shes not able to get up from bed. Its interesting in a way and scary.
  12. Well its everyday but as I an told wednesday and Sunday are like Shaheeda da din(Baba Deep Singh ji da). Ive always have heard this my entire life so thats what i go by. When i was lil and in India some of my uncles used to drink and eat meat but not on wednesday or sunday because of Baba Deep Singh ji. I hope im correct on this
  13. Haha funny about make baba ji to come to him. You know my buwa ji is a heavy believer in Baba ji and when someone does something bad to her or really really make her mad Baba ji comes inside of her. Its kind of scary. She loses all control. One time i was telling her about the way he and his mum were treating me and the next mInute i hear really heavy breathing and a masculine voice. I dropped the phone and wad shaking so bad. That was the scariest thing. I just feel like Guru ji isnt on my side. Ive prayed so much for him to stop but no results yet.
  14. So i knew that my husband eats meat before I got married to him but i did not really care at the time. I just assumed that it was out in restaurants. So after i got married to him and i was staying in india they were going to have a small party at home and decided to make meat at home. Me and my mother in law are the only ones that dont eat it. It was very hard for me to see that because i have never really been that close in proximity of meat eating individuals both male and female. I was very umcomfortable and they were insisting i try it. I was determined and refused and went into my room. So here we are two years later living on our own and he started making at home. We are living in an apartment and the kitchen is pretty tiny. He makes it in the dishes that I make sabzi in. I cannot bear seeing that so i grab my car and leave to cool off. I've reasoned with hom so many times not to make it at home and to give up eating it but he refuses to listen to me. My question to you Sangat Ji is: is there a way I can make him stop? What can I do? Has anyone been in a similar situation(not necesarily husband wife relationship) and was able to help that person stray away from meat? My family Baba Deep Singh Ji nu manday a and therefore having meat in a or around us on Wednesday and Sundays is a big No No but these couple times he has made it has been on Wednesdays and thats the other reason it makes me mad. Is this a minor or major issue in your eyes? I feel like im going crazy. But he thinks im making a big issue out of nothing. To adm:i know we are not allowed to talk about meat but i really need opinions and suggestions because this forum had become like a second home where i am able to adk questions related to Sikhi which take place around me. Thanks
  15. Well u know once you get married ur life starts in a whole new way. There is a different excitement and adventure. Dont think that you cant have any fun after you settle down. Its however u make of ur life. U can make it exciting or make it boring its up to u. U can still go out with ur partner and have fun. And no ur not getting old!! I have been through that also. Now im 24 and married, working, going to college, and taking care of the house and sometimes i feel like ive kind of accomplished wht my parents want so im just old and done with everything but then you realize theres so much more left in life yet to explore and discover.
  16. I just read the article about Sant Isher Singh ji and Suleman. I had chills while reading this. Its wierd i never came across this as our family is a huge follower of Sant ji. I Would love to listen to the actual recording somehow. So my question still lies: at Dera Baba Vadbhag Singh Ji the sevadaars recite bani to talk to the possessed and at get rid of them. How come the Dera isnt regarded as part of Sikhi? When Sant ji did the same thing? Im just asking this from what i have seen. People obviously go there because it works right? And they do baani to accomplish that. I wish someone can clarify this so i dont go crazy thinking about this. Sorry if j offended anyone. Thanks for telling me to read that article. Was an amazing find!
  17. These fake nihangs are the ones that are making Sikhi look bad and creating a bad reputation for us.
  18. Well this certainly is. Maybe you an kindly explain? Thanks. I dont mean to offend anyone i just like to be clarified about certain things
  19. Thanks for clarifying that. I had to go there because of in laws. You know one thing i dont understand is that in Sikhi we dont believe in spirits and exorcism because it doesnt exist? But it does right? I mean i saw it with my own eyes. I never used to believe that but i saw people possesed with spirits right in front of my eyes and the sevadaars were doing paath and talking to the spirits. I was totally shocked by that and curious and just sat watched what was going on. I wished it was written somewhere about all of this to make everything clear. Just so many unexplained things in Sikhi.
  20. Wow what a great step. I have never seen Sardars with turban in any magazines(well in non-indian magazines). I would love to see when or if the pictures come out!
  21. Well i guess thats an option but the only problem is Seattle is not a huge Sikh community and my dad knows the panj pyare so its kind of wierd position. I wouldnt want my parents to be embarrassed because of me.
  22. He's dead now and people should think about the positives in a persons life instead of always looking for negativity. I dont understand why we Sikhs are so quick to judge others just over the 1984 attacks and not by other things they have done in life? Im confused that the picture with him standing next to Indira just didnt come out yesterday? How come noone reacts when this originally happened and taken action at that time? If we have done that so many people would not have been suprised at this kind of picture and would have given him so much respect and attention.
  23. One thing amazing about Chrisitianity is the way thy spread word about religion. Here where I live they(christian volunteers) have i guess some sort of a list like ok in this street there is a Sikh or Hindu and when they come to your door they are(usually its women) dressed in a salwar kameez and have books and phamplets in Punjabi which tells the message about Jesus. Even though we refuse them everytime it amazes me that how much effort they put into spreading the word about Chrisitianity. I really dont see all tht in Sikhi.
  24. Thats a great idea! More ways we can spread the message about Sikhi tge better. Some people are so naive that they get Sikhi and Hinduism mixed up. Great idea!
