  3. https://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/Tansukh_Lahauri TANSUKH LAHAURl, a devoted Sikh of Lahore who later lived at Ranthambore in Rajasthan. Tansukh had two of his sons living at Anandpur under the patronage of Guru Gobind Singh. They sent a copy of a translation of Hitopadesa, made by one of the Guru's poets, Lakkhan Rai, to their father at Ranthambore. The prosodic forms used by Lakkhan Rai were doha, or rhymed couplet, and soratha or couplet with centrerhyme. Tansukh decided to reversify the contents using the form chaupal or stanza of shortlined rhymed couplets with other metres interspersed. He completed the work in 1684 and named it Rajniti Granth. Its language is Hindi.

A woman got out of a taxi and was in Limmer Lane in Booker when she was approached by a man who sexually assaulted her at some point between 2.05am and 2.40am on Saturday, February 26. The attack continued onto Booker Common where the woman struggled with the attacker, who then ran away down Limmer Lane towards Cressex Road. The woman suffered minor injuries. The sex attacker is described as a black Afro-Caribbean man, very tall with a skinny build. He was wearing dark clothing, including possibly a puffa jacket. His hair was in tight braids which went into a top bun. Police launched an appeal for witnesses to come forward days after the attack, but have since released a CCTV image that they think could help the investigation along. Officers investigating the terrifying attack are trying to identify the taxi driver who dropped the woman off in Limmer Lane because he could have vital information, although police have stressed he is not being considered as a suspect. The driver was an Asian man, driving a large - possibly six-seater - dark coloured taxi. Investigating officer, Detective Sergeant James Rocks, based at High Wycombe police station, said: “This was a serious sexual assault, and we are doing everything possible to identify and apprehend the man responsible.

Gurbachan Harbans Kaur Khalsa passed away at the age of 90 on March 1 after suffering from dementia. She had more than 100 grandchildren, including great-grandchildren, who turned out in great numbers to remember her extraordinary life. Gurbachan was married to Shingara Singh Khalsa, who passed away in 2019, and founded the city’s first Sikh temple. The pair were dedicated to helping others, and were described as "massive figures" in the Sikh community. Her emotional send-off started at her home address on Glenfrome Road in Eastville. At around 11.45am, Gurbachan was transported to the Sikh Temple in Fishponds by horse and carriage, followed by a truck with a Sikh flag playing music, and a long line of funeral cars. Her grandchildren followed the horse and carriage on foot singing traditional Sikh music and holding a painting in her memory, passing the Eastville M32 roundabout as motorists stopped to allow passage. Two of her grandchildren lit colourful flares as they approached the Temple. Gurbachan's grandson Hardeep Singh said: "She was a great woman. She was very religious as a 'khalsa.'" Khalsa is a group into which committed Sikhs can be initiated to demonstrate their devotion to their faith. "But a few years ago she started deteriorating due to her age," Hardeep said. "It's going to be hard, but she's gone to a better place. "It's sad to see her go but we're here to celebrate the long life she had."

  9. I don't think many 'Panthic' types would go work for mainstream media, mostly 'liberal' types would. And even if 'Panthic' type, say fresh from Uni and limited life experience, they'd probably quickly move on once they realise they would not be able to write articles that they want to as it doesn't agree with the 'liberal' view.
  10. https://www.vice.com/en/article/93b8xy/crime-pakistan-father-kills-baby-daughter After a four-day manhunt, police in Pakistan have arrested a man who allegedly killed his own 7-day-old daughter because he wanted a son. Police caught 24-year-old Shahazib Khan on Thursday in the Bhakkar district of Punjab province, 57 miles from his home in Mianwali district where he fatally shot his baby girl Jannat, whose name means “heaven” in Urdu. “He had expressed his desire for a male child to his wife and other relatives. He didn’t even show up to see his daughter at the hospital when she was born,” Zarrar Khan, a Mianwali police spokesperson, told VICE World News. Fatima’s uncle was at the scene and tried to save Jannat, but Shazaib Khan pointed his gun at the family and threatened to kill them all before shooting the baby. Police said an autopsy revealed the baby died instantly from the bullet wounds. Shahzaib Khan fled the scene. Fatima’s uncle then filed a murder complaint against him.

Trained in the Western and Eastern classical traditions, Raaginder implements improvisation, rhythmic patterns and the sounds of Indian Classical music on a modified five-string violin. Raaginder has brought it upon his violin to experiment with different genres of music such as hip-hop, pop, and more. He studied at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) where he received his BFA in World Music Performance. Today, Raaginder performs around the world, teaches, and composes music for various projects across many genres. “My name is Raaginder. I am a violinist, composer, sneakerhead, avid basketball fan and once an immigrant. I was born into a family of musicians in Bangkok and moved to California a month before 9/11 happened. Although I had moved around in Thailand a few times, eight-year-old me had no idea what was in store once I made the move to a new continent. I knew English pretty well and knew how to play basketball so I never thought it would be a big deal. However, once the move occurred, my Thai-Indian English accent ended up being the butt of everyone’s jokes and my physical identity became subject to racist attacks on a daily basis. I desperately needed an escape. Something to connect with the kids at my school and the people in my community. They say music is a universal language and music ended up being what connected me to everyone in this new country. Luckily, I had music instilled in me since birth so I knew a thing or two about it; it’s what ended up being my saving grace.

  15. https://www.hindustantimes.com/cities/chandigarh-news/discrimination-against-sikhs-has-increased-in-us-lawmakers-told-101646767302117.html Discrimination against Sikhs has increased in US, lawmakers told Published on Mar 09, 2022 12:51 AM IST ByPress Trust of India Sikh Coalition legal director Amrith Kaur Aakre says biased interpretation of government policies and laws harms Sikhs in public and private sector jobs Washington: Religious discrimination and hate crime against the Sikh community in the United States has increased in recent years, a human rights expert told the lawmakers urging the administration and the US Congress to take steps to end this. “Congress must take action,” Amrith Kaur Aakre told members of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties during a recent Congressional hearing on discrimination and civil right. Aakre is legal director of the Sikh Coalition. “Workplace discrimination harms Sikhs in a range of public and private sector jobs, including transportation, entertainment, healthcare, the military and law enforcement by allowing for the biased interpretation and application of government policies and laws. “We’ve seen Sikhs willing to put their lives on the line in defence of their cities and country, only to be told that uniform and grooming policies prohibit their articles of faith,” she said. “We have seen Sikhs ordered to cut their hair for work-related drug testing even when alternative means are readily available. And we’ve seen Sikh first responders in the fight against Covid-19 pressured to shave their religiously mandated beards instead of being given appropriate, safe personal protective equipment that doesn’t interfere with their faith,” Aakre said. Responding to a question, Aakre said Transportation Security Administration (TSA) profiling for Sikh Americans and other minority groups has always been a problem. Bias against travellers is prevalent at every stage of the travelling process and it starts with the fact that the TSA agents do not receive adequate training on policies or cultural competencies, which is evident from the moment many stigmatized groups arrive at the airport and have to go through behavioural detection before reaching security. In response to another question from Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, she said Sikh American students experience high rate of bullying and harassment in public schools. “Sikh boys who wear turbans are called terrorists and girls are teased for having long hair. And many of these children are subjected to violence. Our research shows that the majority of Sikh children, over 50%, have endured school bullying. Over two-thirds or 67% reported that they were bullied in school and turban Sikh children experienced bullying at more than double the national rate,” Jackson Lee said. Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, who is the first and only South Asian American woman elected to the House of Representatives, said 9/11 forever changed what it means to be Muslim, Arab, or South Asian American in America.
  16. Found this part of his ‘spiel’ interesting “I'm open to any race for my ideal partner. 17. Just saw this on twitter and went to the website what do the Ladies on here think @proudkaur21 @Kau89r8 @5aaban @Jassu @Kaurr etc https://www.findjeevanawife.com/ Who am I? I'm a 31 year old British Sikh guy living in London. Originally from Indian/African background. Passion in growing businesses and music means I love what I do in life and therefore always in a state of happiness and gratitude. I'm also spiritual, into fitness and love travelling. **Disclaimer** - My favorite color is not pink! I just happen to have worn pink. What I'm looking for Since covid, it's been tough to get yourself out there. Apps are declining and I'm more interested in meeting than countless texting & swiping. So it's time to do something more creative! I'm open to any race for my ideal partner. Someone who is family orientated, humble, and wants to make the most of life. Appreciating humour and not taking life too seriously is key. Having a good personality is important, with a positive and modern mindset (I am far from a traditionalist).
  18. https://www.sikhpa.com/her-majestys-court-to-be-challenged-on-kirpan-policy/ A Sikh lawyer is leading a litigation against “a discriminatory policy” regarding the wearing of the kirpan (small sword) in court, with a hearing set for 10th March 2022 at the Royal Courts of Justice (London, UK). The hearing comes after lawyer Jaskeerat Singh Gulshan was prevented from entering Ealing Magistrates’ Court as a witness in April 2021 because of the type of kirpan he was wearing. The kirpan is an article of faith mandatorily worn by Amritdhari (initiated) Sikhs without any specific style or size, although there are more common types. Jaskeerat Singh, with support from various Sikhs in the legal professional particularly Parminder Saini of No5 Chambers, including the group Sikh Lawyers Association, is fundraising £15,000 to litigate HCMTS. Speaking about the case, Jaskeerat Singh said, “It is disheartening that Sikhs are facing immense discrimination on religious grounds in this modern era, yet, we talk about equality and diversity. Therefore, I intend to have the current discriminatory policy abolished as it only accommodates very small Kirpans and it is impractical. We need a policy which is in line with primary legislation and allows Sikhs to carry their normal sized kirpan without having to face any insulting behaviour as I had to at Ealing Magistrates’ Court, similar to the Scottish Courts‘ policy which accommodates all sized Kirpans.” For more info on the case or to donate, go to – https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/jaskeeratsingh-gulshan-2.
