  1. Could someone please clarify the maryada for conducting an akhand path in terms of time? I was under the impression that you had to complete an Akhand Path Sahib within 48 hours? Then why has the Akand Path thats been broadcast live on Sikh Channel lasted over 50 hours from Arambh to Bhog?

  2. Sikh Channel has recently “acquired” a new presenter in Balbir Singh Sandhu.

I was wondering what sort of vetting goes on by the Sikh Channel when bringing in new presenters (volunteers or employees)? This guy is as dodgy as can be and it is disturbing to see him presenting on what is the number one Sikh Channel. He should not be representing the Sikh Channel and is certainly not a Sikh in the true sense!

In case you don’t know about his history check out the links below. He is a Ex-Magistrate Fraudster who has been jailed for 18 months.

Personally whenever he has been on I have had to change the channel as I cannot bear to watch such a fraudulent and fake person represent Sikhi.

To their advantage, Sikh Channel have some excellent presenters but this guy should not be one of them.

  3. I had mine done last Friday at optical express - no problems whatsoever.

I had Lasik Wavefront (Intralase) - with this you will not get glare at night time.

I'm putting the drops in but have been told that I only need to do this for 1 week.

After the 1hr wait the actual surgery took about 5mins and within the next 5mins I was on my home. Vision was a little blurry for a couple of hours but after that no problems at all.

I had the wavefront because of my pupil size (8mm). It's more expensive but definately worth it. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

  4. Hmmm.... It was on Sikh Channel, facebook, newspapers, posters in Gurwara's etc.... not sure what else they could have done? The advertising was going on for many weeks.

I wonder how the other 10's of thousands found out about it?

  5. "In September 2011, Sikhs from all over Britain gathered in Parliament Square to protest. The focus of their concern was the turban."

Credit where credit is due, this programme has been created due to the Dastaar Day initiated and organised by Sikh Channel last year.

I remember all the haters and opposition to this (including Sangat TV) and all the noise about why it was done. Where are these people now? Do they still think it was a bad idea?

This programme will create awareness and has reached mainstream media because of the Sikh Channel, no doubt about it.

  6. Well said West London Singh!!

I'll contact my Gurdwara and ask them to 4 more photo's on the wall next to the current 10 Guru's.

On a serious note beliefs are very different. They don't believe in Rehat Maryada, Amrit, Kesh, and even have their own saluation.

Not forgetting the Nishan Sahib Flag!!

    SANGAT TV EXPLAIN YOURSELVES!

  7. Sikh's believe's in 10 Guru's and Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji as our everlasting Guru.

Now if you start showing programmes that are in conflict to this, will they also start showing Radhaswami and Naamdhari Programmes as they also believe in more than 10 Guru's?

My personal view is Sangat TV are out of order and really need to decide their position on this and not float around and confuse people as @simran345 mentioned. What is their stance on Sikhism? What do they believe in?

  8. Yes integration is a good thing however there is a distinction between mainstream Sikhs and Ravidassia Sikhs.

Sangat TV have advertised all programmes as relating to "Guru Ravidass" and not "Bhagat Ravidass". There is a difference in beliefs and you need to be one way or the other. The jakara that's been on these channels from the "Guru Ravidass Gurdwara's "is noticeablly different "Bole So Nibhai, Siri Guru Ravidass Ki Jai".

The fact of the matter is how can you integrate when you have different beliefs?

Either you believe in Bhagat Ravidass as a "Guru" or you don't. In mainstream Sikhi we don't.

  9. The event was a huge success. It did qhat it set out to do. I saw a lot if people (gore) stopping and asking what was happening and taking away the literature. There a lot of people including kids wearing their dastar with pride.

Well done sikh channel. Would be good if this was an annual event. There were also a lot if journalists about so again awareness will be created further.

We are currently on the coach on the way home and everyone us still buzzing after today's event.

  10. And don't forget Dastar Day isn't JUST about the airport issues that exist. Sikh's in the UK come across identity issues every single day and all this is due to the lack of awareness and education. They do not know the significance of our Dastaar. Whether it's an issue in the police, construction sites, buses, motorbike or just damned arrogant people who relate us to 9/11, awareness of our Dastar can NEVER be a bad thing and ANYONE who disagrees with Dastar Day obviously doesn't care about these issues and begs the question about whether THOSE people should be worthy of wearing a Dastar

Take a look at this link which is TODAY's NEWS

Turban bomber kills former Afghan president

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/afghanistan/8777646/Turban-bomber-kills-former-Afghan-president.html

How long until Sikh's start to get associated with this attack?

Awareness and education can only help.

  11. Totally agree with you AKSANTALI. We need to ensure a big attendance to this event.

However, let me have my tuppence worth too.

First I'd like to congratulate Dr Gurnam Singh in keeping his head and not reacting adversely after being invited to a one sided debate(????) last night.

Sangat TV keep going on about it is the media's job to report only. Is it the media's job to slate other channels to and cause rifts? All they've been showing is an interview with Dr Rai for the past few days. I was beginning to think my sky box was on the blink!

If they believe most of the Sangat are on their side then why don't they take calls from the public on the show? Instead they fix calls to their chelle who they know will give the answers they want to hear.

Their moto (from the website) is:

"Promote social and community cohesion through our shared values, morals and ethics."

I think we need to come up with a new moto for them. Here's a few I've made up.

"Promote social and community hatred if other people do things we want to do before we do it."

"Cry like babies if people don't ask us before they do stuff"

  12. It's actually a technical difficulty

Sorry to hear that. Hope you get better soon!

On a serious note I have studied technology, I have a Masters in it. The sound was "faded" out just before he began and the cameras turned the other way. The second he finished the sound was back on and the camera turned towards the speaker. Did the Tripod have a technical difficulty too? Or did the operator have a 10minute long cramp in his arm?

Babbarsher we are not Internet Warriors. This as a forum. The point of a forum is to discuss and that's what we are doing. I am not a representing the Sikh Channel. I am a viewer who saw something he didn't like which could have easily been avoided.

Sangat TV have been contacted. They admit it happened but keep blaming the person who isn't currently about.

  13. Just wondering why is it so hard for Sikhs to have Ekta?

For every Sikh doing something good there is always 10 standing by to knock him down? Given the beliefs of Sikhs and the number of Sikhs worldwide this should not be happening?

A recent example of this was during the Sikh Federation Conference and Guru Nanak Gurdwara Sedgley St Wolverhampton.

Dr Sadhu Singh, a Sikh Channel presenter was about to speak and before he started Sangat TV muted the sound from the LIVE stream and turned the cameras towards the sangat for duration of his speech (10mins). Take a look:

So for a whole 10mins of a LIVE stream the sangat at home had no sound and saw video of the sangat sitting.

This is just one example from yesterday but if you search this forum there are SO.... many example. Why do we, such a small faith in the world, have such big issues with our own people.
