  1. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. SANGAT TV YOU ARE SCUMBAGS. COME ON TO THIS FORUM AND EXPLAIN YOURSELF TO THE SANGAT !!!! According to the Sangat TV their moto is "Promote social and community cohesion through our shared values, morals and ethics." Cohesion my <banned word filter activated>. This is a "below the belt" move. Go see them, call them. Mr Jagmohan Singh expect a visit!!!! *Address removed*
  2. If anyone is there please do ask and update the forum on their response. Sangat TV people do regularly monitor these forums too so why not respond to the questions asked of them? Do they not have an answer?
  3. Sangat TV what is your problem. Before I start this post I just want to make it clear that I am not affiliated with any Sikh TV Channel. I am absolutley disgusted after listening to Sangat TV (yes a Sikh TV Channel) and specifically, Ranjit Singh (?) Rana over the last couple of days regarding their views on Dastar Awareness Day - the initiative by The Sikh Channel. 1. Rana and Co keep re-iterating that there is no issue and Sikh Channel are making a fuss over nothing. All dastar wearing Sikhs living in the UK and Europe know that raising awareness of our Dastar can only be good for all Sikhs. It has been proven that there is a an issue at many European Airports which is why Dastar Awareness Day (25th September) was originally planned. I do not know of such as issue in the UK, although do believe that it is only a matter of time until such an issue arises. On a personal level I have regularly travelled to Edinburgh on business and have had my dastar "patted down". From my experience it all depends on the security personnel on duty which is why not all people get this issue. It is only a matter of time until we in the UK will be asked to remove our dastar. How can raising awareness on Dastar Awareness Day be a bad thing? How may issues have we heard of in previous years in Schools, work places, airports etc." This is a good thing and the event needs to encouraged. 2. They also have an issue the Sikh Channel calling it "D-Day". This one's simple D is for Dastar and Day is for ... eh "day". What is wrong with calling it Dastar Day or D-Day? It's catchy and sticks in your mind. 3. Rana and Co believe that it is wrong to gather and peacefully protest on the 25th outside the Houses of Parliament. My personal view on this is that such a protest is long overdue. According to Rana there is no issue in the UK. A question to all Dastar wearing Sikh's out there. I am a professional and work with a lot people from around the UK. The first time colleagues (gore) see you question's such as "What's that on his head?", "Is he a terroist?" go through their minds. Raising awareness through events such as Dastar Awareness Day can only be a good thing. The reason for the protest outside the houses of parliment is simple. We are part of the European Union and in this country political leaders can influence leaders and decision makers in other countries. Simple. The peaceful protest will raise awareness and hopefully will lead to this becoming a regular event that will attract media attention. Let's face it, following 9/11 many view Sikhs and Muslims as one and the same. As Sikhs we live in a world where day on day our own brothers and sisters are going away from Sikhi and cutting their Kesh. Reasons for this include peer pressure from colleagues and friends. Raising awareness and educating people can only help in making others appreciate the significance of our dastar and religion to us. 4. They believe this is not the job for a TV Channel We are fortunate to be blessed with Sikh TV channels. Why can't they organise events to promote Sikhi? Let's face it, many organisations have failed in educating and raising awareness so why is this a bad thing? Only good can come of this. Many organisations have tried and failed to organise such events so let's give Sikh Channel a chance. Sikh Channel have managed to reach Sangat across the world and organise Dastar Awareness Day in many cities in Europe. No single organisation has the coverage or capability to do this. Again, nothing negative can come of this. My final question is to Sangat TV. Are the views of Rana consistent with your views? If not I think Rana should be removed from the Channel as at the moment he is a detriment to Sikh's across the world. If these views are coherent with your views then you seriously need to think about the message you are putting across. This is definately not "Sangat" TV. I do certainly hope that this is not a petty "Us Vs. Them" channel war because if it is, Sangat TV, you are pathetic.

  5. I'll keep it short. Parkash 2011 was an amazing large scale event which must have cost many thousands to organise. Sikh Channel and Sangat TV were given exclusive broadcasting rights and they invested money into the event. Therefore how can you possibly let other's broadcast this for free out to the world? You need to be professional about these things. I'm sure the organisers don't have anything personal against you.... as they don't know you! I hope you can understand why this wasn't allowed. p.s. It was an amazing event and well organised!!

  7. This is ridiculous. Obviously someone has a lot of time to pause and count images :-> Do you really Sikh Channel are secret agents working with the Indian Government to "plant" microsecond images into adverts? Putting into context the whole advert (which I thought was pretty good) I don't think this was meant as you have taken it. The order of the images in the advert are irrelevant for this purpose. It is simply trying to put across a message which I think it did pretty well. The pictures are all about "dastar" not order. Rather than put this on a forum I think maybe you should ask them to remove the microsecond image and I;'m sure they'll be happy to do so. Overall I think the advert puts across the message quite well. Actually I have a better option - why don't you go down to Sikh Channel and help vet their adverts - now there's a bit of sewa for you.
  8. After an extraordinary turnout today at Hyde Park I was truly priviledged to be at Hyde Park Today. The atmosphere was absolutely amazing. This could not at all happened if it wasn't for the Sikh Media Channels - and especially The Sikh Channel who have been doing the parchar for this event over the past 5-6 weeks. I just want to say that to all those out there who make a big thing when Sikh Channel makes a mistake - where are you today? Are you still asking people to cancel their direct debits? Like it or not The Sikh Channel has made a massive difference to many people and Sikhism in the UK and Europe. The only way to continue this is to support such media channels. We don't want to close any of them - we need more!! Thank You Sikh Channel!!!
  9. I've just been watching the Sikh Mayor's inauguration on both Sikh Channel and Sangat TV and have a question. For those of you who have been watching you would have seen that this "event" was attended by our Jathdars's from India, or High Priests as the presenter announced. The jathedar's sat in the audience with everyone else and stood when the British anthem "God Save the Queen..." was played at the beginning. My question is, as they are our so called high priests and Jathedar's should the have been there? Would you ever see the Pope at such an event being the Christians high priest? The Akal Takht Jathedar is meant to be the spokesman for the Sikh Panth and Spritual Leader. It just seems a shame that people who at the head of our religion are happy to mix in with the other people at such events. You would not see leaders of other religions doing the same. Don't get me wrong, I being a Sikh am very proud of the new Sikh Mayor of Gravesham, I just don't think it was a place for our Jathedar's to be. It would have made more sense to maybe have an Akhand Path at a Gurdwara and allow the Jathedar's to honour the new mayor at such a programme with an saropa.
  10. Is this event organised by Kirtan Sewa UK? The last Atam Ras organised by them was aaaaaaaaaamazing! First the Chardi Kala Jatha and now this... Brilliant Sewa!

  12. http://thelangarhall.com/archives/161 Post some comments...
  13. Trust some people to be so pessimistic about this. EVERY gurdwara should be celebrating Guru Granth Sahib Ji's Gurgaddi Divas and I'm sure you'll agree we have enough Sangat in the midlands to pack out more than 2 Gurdwaras (even though only 1 of these programmes are actually in a Gurdwara).
  14. can someone tell me the raag and all the taals used in this partaal shabad? Bhai Amarjit Singh Ji
  15. If you get allocated free shares from your company and then wait for the share price to rise until you sell is this gambling? Should we not accept such benefits from our employers?
  16. Also at Gurdwara Gur Har Rai Sahib, High Street, West Bromich on 27th Dec 6:30-7:30pm
  17. OMG! Bhai Sahib was so talented and will be missed deeply. May Waheguru bless his soul.
  18. Does anyone know where I can purchase the Harmandir Sahib Jigsaw puzzle (1000 piece)?
  19. Anyone from this forum in Singapore? Travelling there soon and wanted some info on Gurdwaras and where to go etc
  20. what's the ideal size for the videos?
  21. some people can never see a good thing even if it hits them in the face. This is a Sikh School producing results better than most English Private Schools yet its still not good enough for us.
  22. The Sikhi element is very important and takes a high priority within the school. The whole day for each student starts with hukumnana and ardas before Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Sikhi in itself is taught as a separate subject along with punjabi and kirtan. So the kids get the best of everything. I cannot give you facts as I do not know them... but I have asked someone from the school to post these onto this thread. The School creates an atmosphere in which Sikh Kids interact with each other and I'm sure this helps in terms of these students staying in Sikhi and not cutting their Kesh etc. The school is open to all children not just Sikhs and these non sikh students also learn about Sikhi. All over London we see kirtan events by the kids from this School. The school is VERY successful with many numbers on waiting lists each year and has thus also increased Sikhi awareness around the UK with it being mentioned on BBC news and various newspapers such as the Times. Take a look.. go to bbc.co.uk -> news and so a search for the school. As Sikhs we should be proud of such schools and our aim should be to create more of these institutions around the world let alone the UK. With money coming into Gurdwaras nowadays you wouldn't think this would be a problem.... but then we have politics and committees........
