  1. Personal story - my family made fun of me when I put on keski (6 months back). My brother still laughs at me. But Guru ji thinks i look beautiful :lol2: . Thats all! I am satisfied Just wear it!
  2. People of all races are welcomed in Gurdwara. You can go with you female friend and maybe she can explain things going on inside too It's beautiful, and don't forget to eat Langar there (Holy food offered) And feel free to post any questions or clarification you might have about Sikhism.
  3. First, I want to congratulate you on taking Amrit! I am glad you are about to become Guru Godind Singh ji's son! When you are sitting for Amrit Sanchaar, and they call you inside the room, you can Ask Panj peyare. When you are inside the room, you can just tell them too. Its a good idea if you want to change the name because it will be Guru ji who will give you the letter of your first name. Don't worry, they will understand if you ask for translation. Maybe memorize punjabi version of "I want to change my name" and say that when you are taking Amrit.
  4. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsaa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! I was wondering from where does the Hukamnama start and end? The Ang is 936 http://www.sikhitothemax.com/Page.asp?SourceID=G&PageNo=936
  5. If you would like to share your problem, you are welcome to do so. I ave gone through similar situations all the time. There are so many challenges in life isn't it. Personally, the inner light inside me would go dim, but that light is brought back by Guru Sahib. Gurbaani has so much power. It actually does! I really want you to feel better, why don't you try it yourself. The One you nurishes you everyday, gives you clothes to wear, shelter, fulfills desires... He will also protect you my dear. You are His child afterall. Try doing Waheguru Simran everyday. Start from 5 min per day. Just see how you feel. Feeling would be different. Read english translations of Gurbani. Try this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZ7A9rzsQXQ%C2'> Sukhmani Sahib is soo powerful too.
  6. I can be wrong, I also understand why people can be insecure. It is just how I see it. It is hard, but we can motivate a Singh/Singhni who is insecure in some ways. 1) Panj peyare are really no normal HUMANS giving Amrit. They do Ardaas before, carry strict protocol of rehet when conducting Amrit Sanchar, have a specific, serious and clear mindset when performing seva. They are people of lots of Kamaai. So, they won't judge you or call you names when you go get aata from their store. I think they will respect you by remembering you once took Amrit, hopefully not by your kurehet. 2) If paap is done, then really... you are a paapi right. You can't expect to do paap and nobody judges you or considers you did wrong which you in reality did. So it is really something which you have to deal with right. 3) Above all, I believe being kurehti for life has wayyyyy more weight then bearing consequences of insecurity. Insecurities should not be a reason for not getting pesh. It is a very SMALLL thing which will stop you from getting blessing of PRECIOUS Amrit. And for people who say women can't do seva at Amrit Sanchaars. Honestly, in the Sangat I attend, alot of girls are getting prepared to learn about this seva. Alot of them are learning it nowadays. Guru Sahib is having so much Kirpa!
  7. It might be hard. But in my opinion, when Singh/Singhnia become panj peyaare, they are not the same people with same minds anymore while they perform seva. It together is the roop of Guru Gobind Singh Sahib ji. Even thought some bibia may think it's hard to talk, but if they recognize they are talking to God not 5 men, it might be easier. Also, I am sure people if they did kurehet do ardaas for forgiveness too. If they can do Ardaas to Akaaal Purakh, why should there be uncomfort in talking to the same Akaal Purakh roop?
  8. I have had sangat with really high Gursikhs. They talk about Sachkhand and also say some of them can go to Sachkhand in Surti. They were talking about the kakaars and described how Guru Sahib first checks your kakaars when you go in. Also, Bhai Surjit Singh from Toronto, a highly respected sikh also talked about this. Guru Sahib knows more. Sorry I do not want to turn this post into a battleground. I respect everybody's opinions
  9. 1. Can somebody only shak Amrit, if they do nitnem,or get up at amritvela, or tie a dastaar? Can somebody be a good students if they don't do their homework, study for test? 2. i know some elders shak Amrit and not doin nitnem . Even I know elders who do that, but they will not go to God when they die. They have taken admission in the school, but stopped attending it. So they arent learning much. 3. because of reading problems, but what if somebody is physically unable to do. Unable to read? - listen to audio. Unable to hear? - read it. It dosnt apply to all, but I came across an aunty who calls herself amritdhari. After I asked why she dosnt wear kakaars. She said - no keski, kirpan cuz they are heavy and she has backbone problem; no kara cuz she is too week and old; no kanga cuz dosn't have a place to put it. In my mind I just said HA! WHAT A JOKER, get out of my way! But if there is a really good reason of not following rehet like... had an opperation, people still get pesh then! And, oh Dastaar is important for girls (Many opinions ), but u cant meet god without it
  10. Ummm 99% Amrithdhari Women Kurehti? Waheguru. I do not think so. I know teyaar bar teyaar chardikalaa Singhnia!!!!
  11. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsaa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Please try looking at the pangtiya closely. In all of them, Guru ji just addresses cow just as he addresses birds, bhrahmin, spring, garden. It dosnt mean it is important! Guru Sahib is just trying to teach us about something which you can see if you read the whole shabad of the pangtiya.
  12. I would say you did right veerji. And I realized that a singhni can give a better answer then saying she wants someone who is fun. Not judging but, personally I think it gets clear what is most important thing you are looking in him. Just wait sometime, you will get your true singhni I totally understand how important rehet is. You should seek for person who is kinda equal or perhaps a little higher then you so they can make you higher aswell! Its this the whole reason of Anand Karaj!
  13. I meant 9. Sorry about that. I got the answer from the 2nd post. Thanks anyways.
  14. Oh I am sorry to hear that. Sangat is important. Do Ardaas to Guru Sahib ji. He makes Gursikhs meet
  15. The whole time I was reading your post, one thing was coming to my mind again and again. Have you experienced Naam Ras? If Gurbani was reallyyyy nothing then Naam Ras or Veraag is soo unexplainable. Naam Ras is a very different satisfaction + true love + truthfulness + real + (SO MUCH MORE) you feel after doing Naam Simran. Veraag is when you unknowingly start crying while reciting Gurbani or Naam Simran. When a person starts doing Naam Simran and path alot, with Guru ji's Kirpa you get to experience these. Try to make sence of what this is? This cannot be conditioning of mind or a learned behaviour because I have seen people hearing Mool Mantar, or Waheguru for the very first time in their lives and they experience this! Then...it certainly means perhaps there is something more powerful in Gurbani then? When somebody experiences these, then they never want to leave Guru ji. They just try to be good Sikhs more and more. I cannot explain HOW the feeling of it is because.... there is no such thing in the world which I can compare it too! All I would say is, I cannot tell you the taste of strawberry if you havent ever tasted. I can say its sweet... but that is pretty much it. I would suggest you to try this. Veerji, you want the true answer right? Why don't you try to do Naam Simran and paath everyday. (Please don't get me wrong. I have no intention to make you a sikh or anything, just trying to suggest )
  16. I am happy for you my soul sister! Always stay happy. The useless burden of maya is too heavy right... let it go . There is no need for this burden anyways. Just rise in Guru ji's love
  17. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Well the best thing you can is Ardaas to Guru Sahib! Our lives are really not as complicated as we think, we as human get stuck in situation but forget that really, its Guru Sahib who is controlling EACH and EVERY thing! Everything will be fine as Guru ji listens to their children. Another thing, alot of people are saying in this post that dont have high expectations. I don't know, but in my opinion I do not think it is "expectation" or anything. A loving child of Guru Sahib will only want to be with another loving child of Guru ji. It is just simple. And It makes sense when you say you would better not marry anyone unless it is not true Gursikh. I think this is better and more according to Gurmat than lowering your"expectations" and being with someone who dosn't love Guru ji as much. The best is when two souls are on almost equal level of spirituality. I would suggest when you meet people, have alot of meetings and talk about Sikhi and share eachothers views. This way you will get a better idea. And veerji, you really don't need to "settle" for less! :nono: Wait for the right person and Guru ji will take care of when she will meet you.
  18. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Alot of time in Gurbani there come 9 nidhs, and 4 qualities. What are these?
  19. Waheguru ji, I tried to finding the article. Could you give me if you know where it is ?
  20. Waheguru ji ka khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh!! I just came across this vedio where a Nihung Singh ji is saying how the 5 kakaars are related to Hindu god. I was just not sure if this is right as Sikhi dosn't praise them. . Can this be the truth?
