  1. We are all on a journey travelling through this life, trying to get closer to Him. We are stuck on the treadmill of the gym and we are trying to get off the treadmill. The irony of course is that whether you are on the treadmill or not you are still in the gym.
  2. Sikh: I focus on the forest Hindu: so do I Hindu then proceeds to focus on a tree.
  3. Muslims have this expression, particularly amongst their dawah propagandists. They say one is an 'enemy of Allah ' If we are all the creation of Allah who is the supreme above all else how can we be enemies. Complete anthethis to Sikhi which expresses 'Ek Onkar ' and being 'Ek ' means you have no enemies and therefore Ek has nothing to fear or hate. Maharaj cannot be his own enemy and hate himself. It does not make sense. All that can be concluded is that is that Allah is a deity amongst many other other deities. All Muslims have done is to pick one and to get rid of the rest. It's the equivalent of a Hindu picking the devta like Indra and getting rid of the other 30 million devtas and avtars like Shiva, Vishnu, Parvati, Kali Ma etc. It is just re-packaged paganism. If Hindus did what I explained above then they would be mono-theists.
  4. One of the things that fascinate me about how Banda Singh Bahadhur is how from being a reclusive ascetic and cutting himself from the rest of the world to joining Dashmesh Pita and engaging with the world. And by doing so, he erupted and made the Mughals shudder. I think that at some level I can understand the appeal of being a recluse where you just want to get away from the world and just engage in your own spiritual journey. But the world comes knocking at your door and you have no choice but to join the rest of the world. I think to a large degree many of us Sikhs want to be left alone and be like Madho Das but we have to live in this world and do what must be done so we must transform ourselves. Our history has shown us time and time again that we must tyar bar tyar but we prefer to be left in our slumber. We fall into our hibernation but after getting prodded we explode into action and leave devastation in our wake before going back to sleep again. We want to be the nice guys but the world will not allow that for us.
  5. People (able bodied) have rubbish mobility and they struggle to sit on the floor. Bad hips, bad knees, bad ankles. Was watching a YouTube channel about being able to stand up from sitting cross legged without using your hands. I can get up without my hands by scooping my legs to one side but I cannot stand up by standing up directly, I need to use my hand to lift myself. Quite embarrassing really.
  6. If you come to the gurdwara during the week and have Langar, then it is basic. The problem is the programmes people have over the weekend like Sukhmani Sahib path and Akhand Path for birthdays etc. It becomes a social event and people think it's a restaurant. Gurdwaras need to put their foot down and tell people straight simple Langar and none of these 5 extra desserts.
  7. The Christians remember the poor and homeless during Xmas and then forget for the rest of the year. The Muslims remember the poor and homeless during Ramadan and then forget for the rest of the year. We Sikhs remember the poor and homeless all year round. The Muslims helps a non Muslim so he can convert them. A Christian helps a non Christian so he can convert them. We Sikhs help non Sikhs with no strings attached. Big difference
  8. 1. We are a dharam not a religion. The term religion is a western definition. 2. Guru Nanak Dev Ji made a start on this dharam but he was in my opinion starting something which existed inside of us since forever. 3. Sikhi will have similarly with Hindu dharams as we have come from the same part of the world. Also because Hindus have got some things right in terms of reincarnation and karma so they have similar concepts but they have not grasped them fully like our Gurus showed us. 4. It is not one god but one-ness. The concept of one has always been there. The Islamic concept of one God is not the same as ours. Ours is much more in depth. The Islamic concept is one thing to the lay person and a completely different thing to their scholars and their higher ups. 5. Guru Nanak did not copy anything from anyone. Neither was he influenced. He used concepts and terminology that the people of the subcontinent would be able to comprehend to connect to the one. Here is an anology for you. If the truth was a cake, Sikhi would be the whole cake. If you cut the cake into several slices. You have difference slices. Hindu dharam is one slice and Islam is another slice. Even if you have these slices, Sikhi would be all the slices. You should read mool mantar and japji sahib. Don't be lazy.
  9. The Christian believes in the trinity. One God that splits into three. The Hindu say they believe in one god and then proceed to worship deities. The Jew and Muslim de-pantheinised their gods and picked one out of the multiple of deities that is one to he worshipped above all. The Buddhist does not really believe in God but have deities. The above may claim mono-theism but what is mono-theism. All the above are just deity worshippers in one way or another. We as Sikhs just have one-ness, it's Nirgun and Sargun, beyond time. The one-ness permeates everything and anything and is ever present. The Mool Mantar by itself dispells all the nonsense spouted by humans. Focus on the Ek and everything makes sense once you have experienced naam. Life is truly a one player game. We are part of the game, but there is only one player.
  10. If you are in a toxic relationship, your health is the most important. If you are financially wealthy person and you are young enough, it maybe better to cut your losses and start over and rebuild your wealth. If you divorce and you have crazy wife, she may try to weaponise your son against you. The reason you married in India is because you thought you were going to get a traditional wife. But as a westerner, you have to be mindful because you are not aware of all the covert tactics employed . At least with the sadarnis in the west, you have a better idea where you stand because at least they are more overt in their intentions.
  11. Typically the hijra life was part of Punjab culture but it had it's place associated with mirasi culture with newly wed couples and new borns. But it was a not a mainstream thing. What is taking place in the west , there is an attempt to shift this into the mainstream.
  12. I think it is in the context of the 'trans' thing that seems to be normalised. In that if there is abnormal things that are pushed onto society like drag queen hour for children. The people who do these things would be have been ostracised, shamed and ridiculed in the past and now that these people are not as picked on, they are taking advantage and are now the aggressors.
  13. Bullies have been vilified for 30 years but it's become clear they played a vital role in society With no checks and balances the freaks and weirdos have been allowed to reshape society
  14. One thing about fighting white hegemony but what the Bakhtis and some of the Hindu populace are calling for is genocide of our people. Plus with the media lock down and the arrest of journalists and abduction of innocent women and children. India is an authoritarian state This is tyranny. Rahul Gandhi has been sentenced to years in prison for calling Modi a thief and we know what his lovely grandma and his wonderful father did. 2024 is election year in India as well.
  15. You are not wrong there. Never have I seen the level of hatred against our people.
  16. The Kohinoor is a bit like Golum's ring in Lord of the Rings. Getting it back to us going to create Gollum like behaviour, "My Precious!" Nothing good has ever come from that diamond.
  17. Ukraine has had a reduction of about 15 million in it's population. About 11 million have poured into Europe and 4 million into Russia. The Ukrainians have lost approximately 150 to 160k troops, Russia about 18-20k. The Ukrainians has a further approx 250k troops injured or incapacitated. So that means 400k soldiers are lost. The Russians are winning this war as it is a war of attrition. There was opportunity last year for a ceasefire but the US told Ukraine not to as this really a proxy war against Russia. One can feel sorry for the Ukrainians because there won't be much of a Ukraine left after this war. I think that Russia will move to occupy Ukraine as they have hundreds of thousands of troops amassed at different parts of the Ukrainian border. There will be no peace talks. The US bombed the Nord Stream pipelines. The US has deliberately f**ked over Germany a NATO ally. With friends like that who needs enemies. Now Russia is piping their gas to China and India. They are free of the financial systems of the west. They have largely de-coupled themselves from the western economies and are more self sufficient. Now the US is itching for a war against China, which they want in 2025. Just how many wars can the US want? They just don't know when to stop.
  18. The irony of course is that the Atheist is connected with one-ness. They never were separated really, it is just the perception that they are. This thread though it says "Decline of Religion", I think it means Rise of Atheism and not believing in God therefore is conflated with Decline in religion. Who says that you have a religion to believe in God. Even in Bani it says "Na koi Musalman, na koi Hindu". These are labels we give each other. We are so indoctrinated in the Abrahamic ways, it really limits our understanding. Our concept of what God is very different of what the Muslim/Christian concept is. The Decline of Religion is more an issue in the west as the Church is in Decline (though in my opinion it has been going on for centuries). After 2000 years of being under the church's yolk, Europe is going back to it's Dharmi
  19. I would not say necessarily that there is a decline of religion per se. I would say that it is the abrahamic political strangehold has been unahackled off the populace and it has been happened for a long time. There are new religions like environmentalism movement, trans etc seem to be in the fore now.
  20. It is an appropriated word. There are words in Bani that give a far more fuller meaning than the English word. The more Bani you learn and understand, the more you realise that the English words are not sufficient enough to explain the full meaning. For example, I got into a disagreement with a gora with the word "karma " as dharmic words have come into the English language and he mentoned karma but used it in the wrong way. I had to explain what karma is. Because this guy twisted the meaning to the point it did not mean what it should have anymore. Karma in the west has taken on a meaning as a consequence of what has been done but karma just means action. The eptymology of the word "kar" means to do or create. Kar is seen in "Kartar" Purakh and Ik-Ong-Kar. Ik Ong Kar has taken on the meaning ," There is one god" but that is not what it actually means when you break down the words. The more correct meaning would be Ik (One-ness) Ong (vibration ), Kar (create/do) The one-ness through vibration created the universe. Through three words you can see the wonder and splendour of Gurbani. This is above and beyond what any westerner or Abrahamic can do. The westerner/Abrahamic has to try and appropriate, verbal gymnastics and try to revise their texts to get this meaning which our gurus explain in 3 words. Your understanding of concepts begins to change I will look into the proper meaning of Paap and Sin but expect to see the same.
  21. I do not like this topic header because the way it is framed is very christian like. Our dharam has been abrahamised. I do not think the word "sin" is really appropriate to describe "paap " as our concepts go into far deeper level.
