  1. i dont want to be a pessimistic (cnt spel lol) but they dont show u the prostitution, the womens market, were they are kept and sold as slaves, the young girls sold to the arabs, the drugs, the alcohol, all the paap , the amount of animls killed to feed the people...........................the video shows the materialistic world which should not be a reason for someone to go there.

  2. Do you think the great Gursikhs like Baba Deep Singh, Bhai Mani Singh, Bhai Taru Singh etc would have sold booze, ciggis and porno mags inorder to survive?

What happened to "sir jaavay ta jaavay, meri sikhi sidhak na jaavay"?

Wasnt Bhagat Tarlochan a butcher? surley if Guruji decided to include his Bani itno Guru Sahib, then we should learn from this. If the person has to make a living let it be as long as they themeselves do not drink or smoke it should be fine

but then when he got the Gurus Darshan/ amrit didnt he stop?

sajan thag was a cannibal ,but stopped after being enlightened

    and many many more

doesnt mean we can do the same, but it does mean we can be forgiven if we change our ways and realise,

also these things add to karam in whteva way we get involved, the law of karma is very fair, and we get what we deserve according to the actions we take.everyones on their own journey, we gotta make the right choices

  3. normally i dont like to tell people what to do, and let them make their choices etc, but i have quite a stern veiw on this one......

my family are in this trade and we are desperatley trying to get out of it, it is seriously not good for your gursikhi jeevan, i would never recommened selling of alcohol or tobaco to anyone, and my veiw used to be very different and i am glad i learnt about sikhi,

but if u want to make the right choice trust me , stay away from it,

the money u make will never bring sukh to your family, i know its easy for me to say if the family is desperate, but after you spends years n years regretting it, and you get trapped into it and its very hard to get out of.....................................

God will help you , ardas is important, there are many ways to work , there are other types of shops which bring in more profit than alcohol ones, but i have got to say, this is possible the worst things a gursikh can do, it wud be a step backwards away from the guru.

I know about this first hand, and also member of my family also, this is not the KIRTAT Guru Nanak Dev Ji talked about, many ppl say it is kirat, but the nature of the work means it is not kirat, and as a sikh we must serve the world, for its bhalla, and in no way contribute to ppls manmat ways

  4. EVERY SIKH HAS SINGH OR KAUR AS SECOND NAME. THAT MEANS ONLY YOUR FIRST NAME ON LEGAL DOCUMENTS CAN TELL YOU APART FROM OTHERS AND VERY PROBABLY MANY PEOPLE HAVE SAME FIRST NAME AS YOU AND SINGH/KAUR SO NAME CLASH AND HIGH CHANCE OF ID THEFT.

IF YOU HAVE THIRD NAME AFTER FIRST NAME & SINGH/KAUR LESS CHANCE OVERALL OF NAME CLASH ID THEFT.

IN CANADA AT IMMIGRATION YOU HAVE TO HAVE THIRD NAME OTHERWISE YOU DON'T GET ENTRY INTO CANADA SINGH AND KAUR BANNED BECAUSE TO COMMON YOU HAVE TO HAVE THIRD NAME AS WELL LEGALLY.

    http://www.cbc.ca/canada/calgary/story/200...mmigration.html

YOU HAVE TO BE STUPID NOT TO HAVE THIRD NAME/FAMILY NAME.

you not much of a sikh scholar, if ur calling all of the singhs n singhnia stupid for hving the guts to abandon, caste/ family / inherited names. with kirpa i will be takin amrit in feb, so first thing ill do is get rid of my third name.

ps there are many ways to protect urself against identity theft, i dont think anything should get in the way of choices about dharma, this world does not belong to the political people, nor does it belong to the canadian imigration system, we are not slaves, no one but our father can tell us what to do or what not too, we live in the Will of Akal Purakh....... so dont go on about getting into canada the world doesnt revolve around it u know........

  5. I will admit, and i find it quite shameful, although many people on here are quite relaxed about it, but i did used to listen to bhangra before i knew about sikhi, my parents and uncles n all that had it on all the time.

But when I found sikhi and realised that it was my path and I first consiously heard Kirtan and started listening to Kirtan, I threw out all the music and deleted all the mp3s of music and basically since then iv been listening to Kirtan, and amazing kirtan, there is so much available on the net too and I just dont want to listen to Bhangra, it just reminds me of the Manmat jeevan and also the only memory I have when i hear bhangra (or most music) is things like alcohol and meat and the half naked women they show in them dance videos these days.

I think its a stage which we all go through, we all do things and think 'a little bit of fun is ok' , or i know some ppl who say, ' i want to switch off from the sikhi side of thing' etc etc iv heard alot of things, some i used to think myself. But a time comes when your love is so much for sikhi and your guru that you make that transition to where you don't need anything else. ITs all about realisation, we are here to get mukti, culture, colour of the skin, race does not matter, we are also not here to tell others what to do...........................

If you cant listen to kirtan and read bani and do naam all the time then 'try' to, try harder and harder, look at the Chardikala Gursikhs and our Gurus, they didnt just become Chardikala over night, they had to do naam through many life times and throught their human life, they didnt listen to music , so we shouldnt either, we will live as our Father told us.

  6. I could have told them that...................... a two year investigation and studies of the water table and they tell us its contaminated ................... the Gov needs to do something, i dont think the World Bank should, indian Gov needs to sort it self out....................we know the problems, people need the solutions !!

  7. i just wanted to know how many sikh families celebrate christmas?

do you guys celebrate it, for some reason i dont know why christmas always has a feeling to it. maybe the environment were in.

i never have the same feeling for vaisakhi nor for our guru's birthdays. maybe because there is no exact way of celebrating it.

i think my fam spends more time together at christmas than any other time, we dont spend that much time together at gurpurabs.

on xmas day we have a family dinner n go to the gurudwara together, or visit some family, mainly cos theres none of us workin so theres no excuse and secondly on occasions such as gurpurabs we are juggling between work n gurudwara n will probs get home late after seva etc.

so xmas day seems to be a special day for us in that sense, xmas is commercialised now , most goray dont do it for religious reasons, infact alot of ppl see it as a period of getting drunk and over eating for a week or two up until new year, same for us, its just commercialised, and a time when we can think of each other, and companies can mke money for the presents we buy, but obviously we just make the most of the time we have free.............. im not sure if i would say we 'celebrate' it,

  8. hi i just wanted to make something clear after reading another post on about a kakaar.

firstly what i believe is that removing kakaar is no paap at all, it is not part of a limb on your body which will be there forever.

a kakaar is there to make you aware, gives u second thaughts about an action you might go to commit.

if a kakaar is never suppose to be removed that is imposible. your keski and kanga are removed daily.

and why is keski removed while isnaan?

pls give your views about this and explain clearly for me to change my mind on kakaars.

we are not here to change minds, your are not here to make things clear...you must do what you can to attain salvation, you need not worry about whether the kanga can leave my kesh or not.. this sort of thing will only cause distress and arguements........... you didnt clear it up, you probably confused alot of young people lol

  10. its never random, but no way in hell can they say that, cos law ses its gotta be random.

they look for asians , anyone with a middle eastern appearance, turban and beards happen to fall into that category because 'some' muslims where turban too.

they may not even have a personal thing for u but they will pick the most likely suspect , so if ur one a plane with all goray then ull get picked lol, unless the ppl at the screening place know the difference and know you are a sikh ........... alot of ppl dont know this and probs wont in the near future, but eventually we will get noticed , theres alot of sikhs and non sikhs doin alot of hard work fighting for our rights.....

but i think u dont ned to reports it, if u hd to take ur dastar off then yea defo report it, or if they said anything out of line. otherwise be happy they didnt upset you any more, they can be so ignorant and nasty so u got off lightly.

  11. if you go onto youtube and search, tumbi lesson 1 ......then theres lesson 2 3 4 on there too, i found it useful to get the basics..........

question is that , iv the tumbi it used in a couple of shabads, i wanted to use it as a side instrument in a shabad, but its very rarely used, is it allowed to be used, i know there some controversy over it, but end of the day all we are doing is singing gurbani .............. what u think.........

  12. Iv been trying to get a hold of this for a few years, i knew that there was a book being put together and i think i was in touch with bhai manmohan singh or someone on his behalf by email, but he never got bk in touch with details to send it and payments, im glad this sites up an running ..........no matter what anyone says this is great seva.

I got a punjabi gutka before i could read punjabi, n everyone sed ill never learn without going to punjbi school n havin a teacher n that, but guru ji helped me and i can get by with wateva knowledge i have.

there are many situations ppl have in life, some more difficult than others, but they find sukh IN dukh, so to say someones lazy to learn kirtan from a teacher is a lil ignorant....

I know there is alot to learn when learning kirtan and obv a teacher is required (sometimes years of experience helps too), but if ppl can publish books on every topic in the world, then your surely doing sevaa by letting unexperienced and experienced ppl getting a hold of kirtan notation and a self help guide, even other teachers can use it as a sylabus to teacher their students etc, so we have layout etc

Well done is what ppl should be sayin!!!!!

  13. VJKK VJKF!

THis is a question for the londoners, my friend and I are doing a course in london, and so we have to stay two nights in london each month, e.g fri night and sat night and leave for home on the sunday.

Anyone know the cheapest place to stay, or any ideas ,

we will probs be getting of at Kings Cross station or St Pancreas station as we are coming from newcastle.

but we want to be near to Chalk Farm Road, London NW1 8AH or within walking distance e.g we can walk a few miles if need be.

    Any ideas ...............???

    Thanks for your help!!!

  14. the problem with going to deep or not is that, do you want to tell them the TRUTH or do you want to say it so they arent ofended, which will prob mean you aint gonna suceed in geting the message across and they aint gona get the full story. If you speak the truth and lay it out for them then its upto them and the kirpa of Guru that they will understand or not.

starting with basics might be a good option but you have to be firm on whats right n wrong......

  15. well 80,0000 saroops?? wonderful,

i guess we should all start learning on the rehit and procedures of keeping saroop of maharaj in our homes , gurudwaras, and how to do propa satkar, and if you already know, lets start having classes or people teaching those who dont know, so that sikhs can live in bliss and read more and more gurbani and have no excuses of reading bani.....................

the time has come to read . learn. and understand Gurbani, in this age sikhi will flourish and so we need these Saroops, many sikhs are to come , and those who are here need to learn the rehit .............. otherwise we will come and go complaining and burning in our own hell.
