I'm looking into learning how to play raag and obviously I'll need an instrument to do so. What instruments would you recommend for a beginner at kirtan? I'm leaning towards the sitar but im not sure. I'd like to hear your input.]

Sitar is okay but first you will need to sing sa re ga ma pa da ni sa//Do Re Me Fa So La Ti Do before you progress any further. You must sing these in solfege number. Solfege provides solmization therefore very important to master it straightway. This will save a tremendous amount of heartache and disappointment later on. Tabla is fine too.

You need to be very careful about how you understand this notion Kaur Ji. Interpreting it as literally as you just did basically gives people a licence to do whatever the hell they like, claiming God's plan as their justification.
