I'm not "basically" saying anything. Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji is not 'basic' anything. It is complete and supreme on every aspect of life. As I stated before, the names on the poll get driven around in monster jeeps that destroy the environment and live in monster homes built by cutting down trees and nature that feed the water table of Punjab that (or at least DID) keep the rural nature of Punjab intact. So basically on a very basic level my question is why are 99% of the names on the poll people that have so little gyan about the teachings of Gurbani and nature ?

Many, if not most of them, are not as true Gursikh as you might imagine. Just as an example, all of them have the most obscene petrol eating environment destroying monster jeeps that they swan around in. A true Gursikh however, would understand and follow the teachings of Sri Guru Har Rai ji. Guru ji taught us about the fact that Waheguru is the trees, the flowers, the soil, the water and the air. Guru ji taught us that to destroy them is the same as destroying Waheguru. Guru ji taught us the fact that destroying the environment...for example cutting down trees in order to build big mansions....will have a knock on effect on the water table. A negative effect on the water table means fertile lands turning into infertile lands. Infertile lands without water means problems for the farmer. Problems for the farmer in Punjab means social problems throughout Punjab. Do you see where I'm getting at here ? We need to ask ourselves just what kind of 'Gursikhs' are these that blatanly pick and choose which of their Guru ji's teachings they wish to follow and lecture on and which they choose to ignore ? What kind of great gyan do these gursikhs have if they don't even have enough gyan to understand guru ji's message about our own responsibility towards nature ? It's as easy as pie to become Amritdhari and learn shabads etc. Easy as pie. Easy as pie to have the appearance of a Gursikh. Having the appearance of a Gursikh and knowing shabads etc is however, not the same as being a Gursikh. A true Gursikh is very hard to find among Punjabis because Punjabis are tainted with Punjabi culture and Punjabi culture and true Sikhi is incompatable. What we find among 99.9% of Punjabi Amritdhari Gursikhs is merely the illusion of being a Gursikh. As I've stated 3 or 4 times already, this poll here on this thread is fundamentally flawed because it does not give the option of a non-Punjabi, perhaps western Gursikh as jathedar. We need that option because such a jathedar will have none of the tainted Punjabi traits but will have 100% of Sikhi.

I've said that same thing here so many times. Every single time I hear the words "the sentiments of the Sikhs has been hurt" I feel like crawling under a rock and hiding in embarrasment. Sikhs need to understand how that sentence sounds to the world. Every time the world hears it they think "but these Sikhs are grown men...not children. The poll is missing many key components / options. Most notably the fact that many of us feel it is high time that a non-Punjabi, perhaps western Sikh assumed the position, not least because such a person would be free from the inherent contamination that comes with being a Punjabi and thus would be 100% Sikhi without the Punjabi add-ons.

Why on earth would the Mods / Admin here change the name of this thread without taking the time to understand the deeper non-racist context of the thread title ? i.e the solidarity between 2 groups of people that the system is deliberately designed to keep down: Black people in America and Sikhs in India. Agreed. We need a balance between the two and I just can't think of anyone of not that has that position right now. So, given what we have, and the realisation that both of those sides (Gora vs Punjabi) come with baggage, I would argue that we Punjabis carry far more baggage that is actually incompatible with our Guru's teachings (Gurbani). But thats exactly why I think we need a gora amritdhari as jathedar, n30singh. We need someone that can and will tell the masses that they are confusing their 'culture' for their 'religion'. Right now, it is our culture that is killing our religion and we need someone that can articulate how in many ways our culture is rotten to the core.

This guy has alot to answer for. This guy has blood on his hands and Sikhs must never let him forget that. A young man (in his early 30's) from Surrey, Canada, has been missing for the last 3 weeks. People are beginning to become concerned as it's not like him at all. Normally, a day doesn't go by without his name or face appearing in the media. Family and friends are desperately concerned and fear his dissappearance may be connected to recent events in the Punjab region of India. Police issued a statement yesterday desperately asking him to make his whereabouts known.
