  1. If we are not allowed to alter even the meaning of the the Guru's Teachings, how is it that we are able to alter the text and put spaces in? Surely modifying the Guru's Teachings completely demeans the value. I fist art ed typ in gli ket his, yo uwo uld ntun der stand. Putting in spaces into the above sentence, all you can make sense of is "I" "fist" "art" "in" "his" "yo" "stand", which makes complete gibberish but someone will probably try to make something out of those words and interpret something else. I always used to have trouble with reading gurbani because I didn't know whether to pronounce the symbols like "bihari" and "sihari" when the letter had nothing after it. Maybe the point of the (murder) story was to show that Gurbani, in it's continuous and proper form is vastly more powerful than when broken up? PS anyone know where I can get a Gutka containing Nitnem Bani in "larivaar" or continuous form?
  2. VJKKVJKF I remember someone telling me (can't remember who, might have been my dad) that the Gurbani in Sri Guru Maharaj used to be joined up ie continuous between words with no spaces. Kindalikethis.Seenospaces. Anyhoo, the story I was told was some guy went around committing murders. After each murder, he would read Gurbani and it would remove the sin so he was "clean" again. And then he would commit another murder. To stop this kinda thing happening again, it was decided that Gurbani should no longer be 'continuous' so spaces were put in. I have no idea whether this story is true or whether Gurbani used to be joined up. Any one able to help clarify this issue? I don't mean to cause arguements etc but wish to know the truth. VJKKVJKF
  3. VJKKVJKF Forgive me for my ignorance. I don't know much about the Bible nor the details of its contents (just what we were taught in secondary school). Does Jesus being born into a Jewish family make him Jewish? Guru Nanak Dev Maharaj Ji was born into a Hindu family but that does not make Him Hindu. Does it? VJKKVJKF
  4. I don't know much about science, but there are other galaxies out there, other planets revolving around other suns. Science does not know whether there is [intelligent] life on these planets, but they DO exist. Also, science does not know whether this is the only universe, or whether there are alternate or even multiple universes, all present at the same time as our universe. This is what I believe Maharaj Ji alludes to when he speaks of such worlds. VJKKVJKF
  5. I've seen groupos being mentioned such as AKJ, BKI and ISYF and I get confused by all these different groups. Is it possible for someone to explain to me the differences between them (not just the ones above, but ALL known groups)? Thank you. VJKKVJKF
  6. I got 6 first time. And I'm no genius!
  7. Just because JapJi Sahib is not in Raag, doesn't mean you can't sing it. I've found to derive greater benefit from singing it than just reciting it.
  8. I'd ask: What is the True Maryada of the Sikh? So as to clarify any and all issues with regards to meat-eating etc. All the silly things that people argue over and fight over. OR I'd ask How can we bring Sikhi back to what it used to be in the past? Instead of people calling themselves Sikhs and acting egoistic, to inspire the true nature of the Sikh into each and everyone who calls themselves 'Sikh'.
  9. I used to learn Shin-Kin from the age of 10 - 15yrs. It was good - you do a lot of fitness as well as combat. Generally, in tournaments, students at the level of blue-belt (halfway to black belt) can and HAVE beaten other martial art black belts. I went up to the level of blue belt (though didn't actually go for test) coz doing GCSEs then A-levels so didn't have time. But it's damn tough at blue belt level tests - one hours' fitness BEFORE one hours' combat. Wolverhampton and Birmingham are the only two cities I know where they are based. As for the name, they guy derived it from SIKH --> SHin KIn
  10. VJKK VJKF I've thought about this too. I would not hesitate to give my head to the Guru if he demanded it right now. Yet I feel hesitant in deciding to take Amrit and become a Gursikh, mainly because of I-ness. What does this mean for me? Confused VJKK VJKF
  11. I too, for some reason, don't "care" about all the deaths and tragedies in the news. Perhaps I have been desensitized to it at an early age. Perhaps I've just never cared for others. Tragedies in this world are meant to be received like blessings. When good things happen to us, we are happy. Imagine that as the head of a coin. When bad things happen to us, we are sad. Imagine that as the tail of a coin. People become so caught up in whether they get "heads" or "tails", they forget that they have received a coin from the Lord. They forget to look at the coin and realise its True Value.
  12. I will not pretend that I have much knowledge of Sikhi. The Guru has taught me that everyone is equal. Everyone has the same blood running through their veins. Every one has the same spark of Lord within them. The only division in this world that I recognise is that between the Gurmukh and the Manmukh. The Gurmukh follows the Word of the Lord. He is free from the five demons, including lust. There is only one true form of Love, and that is Love for the Lord. All else is lust. Men may "love" women. Men may "love" men. Either way, it isn't real love, it is simply lust. Homosexuality used to be frowned upon, but is gradually becoming accepted. Leonardo da Vinci was said to be homosexual AND kept a 10 year old boy as his "sex slave". That is now called paedophilia. It wasn't frowned upon in the past, but it is now. In America, in some states, people commit Beastiality (and it's not always a man penetrating an animal; the reverse has happened, and women also commit such acts) AND it is accepted (ie it is not illegal). These laws/rules are made by society and not the Lord. Man makes his own laws and suits them to himself. It is man who calls himself homo or heterosexual. IMO, although homosexuality has been around from the beginning of time (including in animals), doesn't make it right. Evil has been around - people committed murders, rapes, and other crimes - since the beginning of time. Still doesn't make it right. I believe that if we follow the path of the Lord, we will find the True way to live. I believe that lusting after another (male or female) will lead us to the wrong path. I believe we should be "asexual" in our thoughts - ie not to lust after anyone, and that marriage and children are there for procreation - to produce physical bodies in which other souls can enter whilst in the cycle of birth and death.
