  1. vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaaheguroojeekeefathehh !!!!!!! don't worry about curls bhajee... i know it is annoying sometimes but if you use proper conditioner, oils, and if you comb your kes and wash your kes every day then you should get smoother, less tangled hair with less dandruff. of course there are dandruff treatments out there too. i used to have a serious afro, and my hair are still curly but they are down to the middle of my back. for people who are new to sikhi, keeping your hair is a good decision but when grows very slowly sometimes you get discouraged. sometimes you want to have a joora or long straight hair right away, but it is a time for patience, prayer and saying thanks to guru ji that you are keeping your kes. now that you have made your mind to keep them do not turn back on it, keep on praying to guru ji for strength. guru ji says "keetha lorreeai kamn so har pai aakheeai || kaaraj dayh savaar satgur sach saakheeai ||" if we desire to have our important affairs accomplished we must ask upon the Lord God, it is the true reality that the True Guru will always help us to accomplish our difficult tasks if we seek his support. so please pray to guru ji that you may become a supersingh and have healthy beautiful kes  and a healthy beautiful soul stay in chardee kalaa vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaaheguroojeekeefatheh !!!
  2. singhni84 bhainji please share more of your thoughts on this topic. what do you think the ideal result would be now, that this man with a mental illness / depression has done this ?
  3. Lion King is correct. Lohgarh Singh, that was a very inappropriate and stupid comment. Sri Akal Takhat Sahib is not corrupt. Some of the people who do seva there, they are corrupted by the five evils. but Sri Akal Takhat Sahib is not, was not, never will be corrupt.
  4. RSS means Really Simple Syndication It allows people to summarize the information published on their website in a file that has various categories, and that file can be published on anybody else's website to show that website's content. For example if you have a news website, and it has an RSS feed, I could use the RSS file to show the news from your website on my website. It allows websites to share information easily and efficiently.
  5. interesting posts everyone. anybody else want to share their thoughts on this? thank you jee

    Msn .. Grr

Hahahahahahaha.... the advice above was the ultimate best advice. and delivered in such a calm, nonchalant fashion. hehehehe. you could also just get a life.. i mean i don't have a life so that is why i am on the forums and on the computer. if i was part of a club, or went to the gym, or if i had some friends, maybe i could be out of the house more often and have less time for the internet !

  8. vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaaheguroojeekeefatheh !!!! i agree with the posts above - you should contact the organizations and set your limits, try to think about your own personal strengths and what you can offer in relation to what is needed. Don't do publicity for the organization if you don't want to. If you want to do hands on work - ask the organization for that type of seva. You will find politics in most organizations. Politics is the struggle for power. Where there is seva, money, people's lives, recognition, and a lot of work, there will be a struggle for power. It is not always bad. Sometimes it is a good thing. Please do not feel nervous. Instead just do your research, and invest your time and your money in a cause that you can support without any doubts. The best seva is seva without desire for anything back, and seva with love for God and all God's creation. You can also contact: All India Pingalwara Society Regd. 9. Just to add to the previous post, the blogger Singh|Kaur|Khalsa search might not be the best one You can improve it to remove posts by people with Singh who are not Sikhs if you are looking for specifically Sikhi-oriented posts for example you can try -binit -nalini -varun inpostauthor:singh|kaur|khalsa the link for that search's RSS feed is: http://search.blogger.com/blogsearch_feeds...=100&output=rss please let me know if you used this and how it's going - if you have any tips / tricks to improve it, thanks
  10. vaaheguroojeekaakhaaalsaaa vaaaheguroojeekeefathehhhhh !!!!!!!! khalsa jee you can improve your experience with firefox and google to make your web surfing on the internet for sikhi topics more useful. if you visit http://www.google.ca/ig?hl=en and make it your homepage, you can customize it in many ways. there is an "Add Content" button that allows you to customize the homepage. If you have Google Gmail Notifier, it can keep you logged into your Google account while you surf the net. Then, whenever you press the hompage, you can view - all on one page - your new e-mails, new posts on Sikh blogs, news about Sikhs, and new posts on forums. you can take the URL of any RSS feed from any forum or any website that publishes an RSS, and show the latest posts. for example you can display DiscoverSikhi's latest forum posts by adding the following link : http://forums.waheguroo.com/rss.php I don't think SikhSangat has an RSS feed but they should - it would be very good for this purpose ! Admins you can add an RSS feed in the Admin CPanel. You can also use the following link to show any new posts from any blog index by blogger.com (it will also show MSN and Wordpress blogs) that are written by an author with the word Singh, Kaur or Khalsa in their name: http://search.blogger.com/blogsearch_feeds...=100&output=rss You can also use Feedster, Google News, and many other services. This way, right when you open your Firefox, you can view your gmail, new posts on blogs, news about Sikhi, new posts on forums, and all of your favourite links - all on your homepage. and it will update every time you refresh, so you can always see the newest content. It makes things much easier, and you get information much faster. If you need any help please PM me. all the best  please forgive me for any mistakes vaaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaaa vaaaheguroojeekeefathehhhhhhhh !!!!!!!!!!
  11. The Tribune India - http://www.tribuneindia.com K.S. Bains on Gurdwara Rakab Ganj, which stands where Guru Teg Bahadur was cremated. This is the sixth of the nine-part series on important Sikh shrines in Delhi THE place where Gurdwara Rakab Ganj is located was initially a storehouse of rakabs (stirrups) for the Mughal cavalry. Around it was a small locality where a cotton trader named Lakhi Shah lived. Lakhi was present at the martyrdom of Guru Teg Bahadur with some carts loaded with cotton. It is said that immediately after the beheading of the Guru Tegh Bahadur, there was a violent storm. In the confusion that followed, Lakhi hid the body of the Guru in his cart. According to another version, the Guru’s body lay unguarded in a dungeon and Lakhi managed to get the body to his house. In order to save the Guru’s body from being dishonoured, he cremated the body by setting on fire his thatched house. The next morning, he collected the ashes in a copper urn, which he buried where the Guru’s body had laid. Another follower of the Guru, Bhai Jeta, had carried the head of the slain Guru to Anandpur Sahib. In course of time, a mosque came up at the spot where the Guru’s body was cremated. In the late 18th century when Baghel Singh, head of the Karorsinghia misl, learnt about the copper urn, he pleaded with Muslim leaders that the place be dug up. On digging, the sacred urn was found and Baghel Singh built a gurdwara there. He also attached a jagir to the gurdwara for its maintenance. After the First War of Independence in 1857, Gurdwara Rakab Ganj was replaced by a mosque. The matter was taken up by Sikhs in the High Court. Their case was rejected by the court and was taken to the Privy Council, which ruled in favour of the gurdwara. The gurdwara was again built along with a boundary wall. Since the gurdwara was in an impressive location, with striking buildings like those of Parliament, Central Secretariat and Rashtrapati Bhawan near it, it was decided to reconstruct the gurdwara in the 1960s. One Harnam Singh Suri, a dry fruit dealer from Iran, offered to mobilise Rs 30 lakh and build the gurdwara. His request was accepted, and thus came up the present Gurdwara Rakab Ganj. Built on a 10-foot-high pedestal, the gurdwara has a wide parikrama on all four sides. In the four corners of the parikrama, are four chabutras. The gurdwara has three receding storeys. The height of the first storey itself is more than three storeys of a normal building. The gurdwara, with a chajja around it, sports the same fa`E7ade on all four sides. Its high gate displays two parts: the lower part constitutes of the entrance darwaza and the upper part comprises a protruding balcony with a typical dome on a rectangular base. There are four domes in the four corners of the first floor. The second storey is about half the height of the first one. Again, there are four domes in the four corners. These domes are much smaller than those on the first floor. The central dome, in the middle of an arcaded square on the roof of the second floor, is surrounded by smaller domes. The various sizes of the domes at different levels present an artistic picture. All the domes are ribbed with inverted lotus leaves on the top. The gurdwara displays delicate jaliwork in marble, which is somewhat similar to the work done on the tomb of Salim Chisti in Fatehpur Sikri. The side pillars bear elements of Persian architecture. Inside the gurdwara is the spot where the actual cremation of Guru Teg Bahadur took place. The main entrance to the gurdwara is on the side facing the Parliament building, but the entrance that is commonly used is the one near the parking area. There is an impressive flight of steps with marble colonnade on both sides. Bhai Harbans Singh, who has devoted his entire life to the construction of gurdwaras in Delhi and Punjab, approached the organising committee of the IX Asian Games in 1981-82, of which Buta Singh was chairman, to help him design a big congregation hall in the gurdwara complex. The location of the hall suggested, however, did not fit with the overall design of the structure. Thus came up the Lakhi Shah hall in Rakab Ganj Gurdwara. Both architecturally as well as in terms of the material used, the hall doesn’t jell with the main Gurdwara building. The hall is mostly used for celebrating Gurpurb or conducting kirtan and marriage ceremonies. The office of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee on the gurdwara premises also does not conform to the architectural ambience of the rest of the building. It squarely faces the approach to the gurdwara and spoils the overall character of the place. For, as you enter the gurdwara, on your left side is a beautiful marble structure that holds great religious sanctity, while on the right side is the office with its regular stream of visitors. The contrast between the two sides is rather stark and avoidable. A langar building is also coming up. According to Sikh parampara, gurdwaras once constructed can be improved upon or re-constructed. All Sikh shrines, including the Golden Temple, have undergone restoration and even construction at some point or the other. There is still time to redesign some of the buildings and make them architectural wonders.
  12. Gurmukh Pyare Baba Ji, France turban ban has received international press coverage for more than two years. People from every corner of the world who know about Sikhs know about the France dastaar ban. please don't waste sangat's time.
  13. Do you guys think that this young man's mental state was poor enough to cause him to break and enter a gurdwara, pour gasoline all over the darbar sahib, light it on fire, then run upstairs? And does that excuse the fact that his actions caused extensive damage to the suroop of Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj ? This is an open question to all the sangat. If you're reading this, please post your opinion.
  14. dear bhainjee, vaaheguroo jee kaa khaalsaa vaaheguroo jee kee fatheh !!! i understand the experience you are going through. my mom has gone through the same experience. my mom and her brother grew up together. they moved from india to canada at a very young age. my mom was 9 years old and my mama ji was a few years older. they would deliver papers together, go to school together, play on the same hockey team. my mama ji always protected my mom as a child, and as they grew up they were very close. my mom had i think 7 brothers and 2 sisters. one sister and three brothers have passed away. but of those four the most traumatic was this mamaji that i've mentioned above. because they were so close in age, they had spent to much of their youth together, my mom couldn't understand how somebody could be there one day, and not be there the next day. the same thing happened to him. he was taking a left turn and the oncoming car hit his car, and he hit his head on the steering wheel. he told the ambulance that he was alright, and he took a tylenol and came home. later on he told his wife he was having a very bad headache. the next morning he woke up to go to washroom and he collapsed on the floor. he had a brain hemmorage and went into a coma. while in the coma he had a heart attack. nobody in the family could believe it. it was an absolute shock. and he was like the glue of our family. since he passed away many of my cousins don't communicate with each other because everybody used to gather at his house. he left behind a wife and two young kids. when their dad passed away they were i think 6 years old and 8 years old. we also were confused about why this happened. what was the reason. but actually through more births and more deaths in our family i came to understand that this is a fact of life. guru ji says that person who comes to this world, also must leave this world. everybody gets their turn to leave this world. however we cannot command God about when that turn will come. we are humans so we fail to understand that this is just one level of our existence. it is as if we move from one level of a building to the other level. we are still in the building, but we have just moved. in the same way our soul doesn't die, we just move to a different place in the universe. depending on our actions we can be sent to other lands, other earths, other realms of creation. we can undergo intense punishment or blissful peace. we can be seperated from our family or reunited with them. we can be seperated from God or reunited with God. guru ji says that we cannot command the creator but we can do ardas to the creator, and the creator can bless us. you all did ardas, three times a day, at the gurdwara, do you remember for what purpose? it must have been a good purpose and not a selfish purpose. you must have asked, please bless our brother with your protection, save him from suffering, make his soul be in peace, save him from death. ijsu rwKY iqsu koie n mwrY ] jis raakhai this koe n maarai || No one can kill those who are protected by Him. so mUAw ijsu mnhu ibswrY ] so mooaa jis manahu bisaarai || One who is forgotten by God, is already dead. how do we save ourself or anybody else from death? the only real death is if we forget waheguru. i know you must feel confused about why Waheguru did not save your brother from leaving from his earth, but that was not death. that was part of his karma, and part of the karma of all those people who felt a seperation from him. Waheguru does not take any type of revenge with any of his children. He loves us, and he becomes our slave when we remember Him. However Waheguru's hukam cannot be reversed. The actions that we commit become our karma, and according to our karma we experience events in our life - such as sickness, sad times, and death of the body. Death of the body is not death of the soul. Your brother is still alive, but not in the way that you know him. His light, his soul, has moved to another place and now it may be in another body, or he may be with Guru ji. However you should never feel like you "lost him." If something is our own, we can lose it, but if something is not ours, we can't lose it. I understand the pain. After my mama ji passed away, the next year my nani ji passed away, and two years later three close role models, friends, and chardee kalaa gursikhs in my sangat passed away. their picture is in my signature. i felt like i lost those gursikhs too, but then i realized they weren't mine to lose. guru ji says, jis kee vasth soee lai jaaegaa ros kisai sio keejai - whomever owns the item, that person will take it back someday, so why should we be angry with the owner? we cannot be angry with Waheguru for taking back what was already his. mÚ 3 ] ma 3 || Third Mehl: nWgy Awvxw nWgy jwxw hir hukmu pwieAw ikAw kIjY ] naa(n)gae aavanaa naa(n)gae jaanaa har hukam paaeiaa kiaa keejai || Naked we come, and naked we go. 19. AKHAND JAAP IN BC  June 17 Saturday
  20. yes i agree with heera singh it is no coincidence that canada has so many gurmat schools, gurmat stores, and gurdwaras with guru ji's kirpa many many great gursikhs have come to this land over the last 110 years... so many sants, bhagats, keertanis, kathavachaks, gyanis, jathedars, and gatka masters canada's sikh community was built from shaheedi of the komagata maru sikhs and shaheed bhai mewa singh ji and many manmukhs have become gursikhs with the blessings of guru ji in this land there have been so many amrit sanchaars here and so many kharkoos and defenders of the faith live here in canada it is unfortunate what has happened with so many of the youth. it is really horrible that more than 100 youth from punjabi families with sikh roots have died in gang violence in just bc alone. that is not something to ignore. that is a very significant statistic. i do think it is because many of those youth were not exposed to any of these sangats, smagams, gurmat schools, etc. i do think it is because many of these gurdwara leaders have not reached out to youth who don't go to the gurdwara, or don't know about sikhi. and it's been 8 years since the tables/chairs thing and many "moderate" kids just stopped going to the gurdwara altogether , and eventually got into wrong things. i do think it's important for the sikh youth who are blessed with sangat to reach out to other kids and help them. the helpline idea that heera singh had is a wicked idea. the q&a forum on bc sikh youth will be a good thin hopepfully. the VIRSA sikh alliance anti-drug programs are hopefully working. its a start ...
