  1. vaaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaaheguroojeekeefathehhh !!!! if you know, in your heart, that Guru Gobind Singh Ji is your father, and Mata Sahib Kaur ji is your mother, if you know, in your heart, that Guru Granth Sahib ji is your Guru, and taking khande-ke-pahul is in your destiny, if you know, that the Khalsa is your family, and Guru Nanak Dev ji's path is the path you want to follow, then what can anybody do to you? what can anybody say to you? They can not even bend a hair on your body. They can not even make you feel uncomfortable so long as the Naam of Vaaheguroo is your support. Don't give up so easily. Your family says that everybody looks down on them --- Guru Gobind Singh jee broke all castes. There are no castes in Sikhi. Even we don't recognize Hindu castes or any other castes. For Sikhs, all human beings are equal by nature. In fact, anybody who mistreats a human being because of caste will get punished in the court of Dharam Raaj. When you grow up, you will get married and have kids. Will you give in to family pressures, or will be happy and proud of your heritage? Will you teach your kids that same hodge-podge that your parents are teaching you, or will you give them a strong foundation in faith and truth? If somebody in your family truly feels like a Hindu or a Pandit, please encourage them to follow their religion fully. And if you truly feel like a Gursikh of Guru Granth Sahib Ji, then please follow your religion fully, and do not bow to any pressure. These are all tests for you, to make you solid in your faith. When gold is purified it must go through intense heat. Nobody won an olympic championship without hard work and determination. But if you keep faith in Gurbani and make Naam your support, you will have so much internal peace, contentment, and bliss. It will not even affect you when your parents or family make silly comments. You might be living in muddy waters but you can be a lotus and rise above it. please forgive my mistakes vaaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaheguroojeekeefathehhhhh !!!!!!!!!

  3. oh my god while reading your post i looked at your display picture of bhai sahib bhai jeevan singh jee and he is holding a phone i wish he could be the sevadaar for the helpline hehe
  4. vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaaheguroojeekeefathehhhh !!!!!! of course everything is in guru ji's hands and guru ji gets done whatever is in hukam. with guru ji's kirpa i would be happy to do any seva as long as the whole thing was going to be done according to gurmat... like all of the counselors would have to be amritdhari gursikhs and have some counselor certificate or degree or something.. and i think like you would have to be very careful with who you choose as a counselor because sometimes ONE conversation with ONE person can change a person's whole life because they make decisions based on that conversation and it all goes forward from those decisions. for example with situations of spousal abuse, or child abuse, or abuse by a community person or "religious" person, or in cases of gangs and drugs, or relationships - almost anything there is a risk of one person going and hurting another person either physically or emotionally... so whatever the counselor says should be in line with gurmat and have good counseling ideas behind it... you could not just get any random "uncle ji" or even any random sikh youth to be a counselor. it would have to be qualified people. and that's just the sevadaars on that side, there's also the 24/7 aspect, and the 1-800 number, and the advertisement, etc. website is not a problem - there are so many web-savvy singhs/kaurs in bc sikh youth, ontario sikh youth, etc. but my real concern is preventing it from going off the handle and being commercialized like the centennial foundation. it is better to be smaller but be more useful rather than be big but useless. what do you guys think? please saadhsangat and guru ji forgive my mistakes vaaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaaheguroojeekeefathehhhhh !!!!!!!!
  5. yes i think it could happen in bc like we could get all of the gurdwaras to sponsor us and get us one full hour of time on local radio stations like shere punjab or radio india and we could take calls from sikh youth during that time. however i think most sikh youth will be more open to a phone line that they can anonymously call, and to a internet advice board. bc sikh youth is apparently starting a q& a forum on their website but nothing is there yet.. lots of people want an alternative to SikhNet's q&a forum but a helpline is something more useful perhaps.. because if it's 24/7 there can be an immediate response from a counselor to help you deal with your problem, whether it's drugs, abuse, relationships, etc.
  6. vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaaheguroojeekeefathehhhh !!!!!! gurmukh pyare jee i humbly request you to avoid explaining guru sahib ji's reasons from a worldly, materialistic, insecure, "science-is-God" perspective. please explain from a gurmat perspective and historical perspective. like please do not try to say it was because his sons died (his sons never die, and the whole khalsa panth are his children) please try to explain from the gurmat perspective with regards to bani guru guru hai bani, and the historical perspective with respect to the development of sikh religion (which you have mentioned) please forgive my mistakes vaaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaaheguroojeekeefatheh !!!!

Document: Letter from Magazine Filetype: JPG (scanned) Source: The Western Sikh Samachar Edition Number 73 Date: September, 1978 Title: LETTER TO THE LEADERS OF THE KHALSA PANTH Author: Niranjan Kaur Khalsa Excerpt: "As a friendly advice and not as an animosity, we must tell you that the Sikhs of India will revolt against the SGPC and Akalis in due course of time if the blood ofthe Martyrs of Amritsar is allowed to go to waste. Things are not happening right, and this blood will wipe you out politically and spiritually if you do not do anything."
  11. Document: Article Media type: full text and JPG (scan) Source: The Spokesman Weekly Newspaper Volume: 41 Number: 22 Date: April 13, 1992 Title: WATERY GRAVES Numerous bodies of murdered youngmen, all of them Sikhs and between ages of 15 and 25, have been fished out of various canals in Punjab, especially in the districts of Ludhiana, Sangrur and Ropar, which are nowadays hotbeds of militant activities and, thus, the centres of state repression also. The million-dollar question is: Who dumped them into these watery graves? The theory of suicides, through drowning, gets punctured at the very outset, as almost all these men had their legs tied and their hands fastened behind their back with a belt either of leather or of steel; not only this, their bodies were also loaded with some weights so that they would sink to the bottom of the canal immediately and would reappear on the surface of the water after they get bloated with water. No person, however desparate to end his life, could do all the above things himself. This can be the handiwork of other persons. Many options must be examined. Normal murders, either out of family feuds or personal vengeance, are ruled out because all the victims were more or less of the same age group and were definitely Sikhs with long hair and beards. Another argument can be that these could be abducted persons or rival gang members killed by the militants. Anyone, with the slightest knowledge of guerilla warfare, would not subscribe to this theory, for it suggests that first the militants committed the crime at some place and then carried the bodies all the way to a canal. In all the killings which have taken place in Punjab, the militants have vanished from the scene after the crime. The needle of suspicion, therefore, points ominuously to the security forces whose involvement in extra-judicial killings is well known. Dumping of the bodies into the canal is the safest way of preventing identification. If the body is dumped somewhere else, it would be discovered sooner or later, torture marks would be visible, and, above all, besides ascertaining the cause of death, the person would be identified. Once the person is identified, there may be many among his relatives or friends who were, eye-witnesses to the arrest of the dead man by the security forces. Throwing bodies into the canals after stripping off the clothes ensures that there will be no identification. The security forces have abundant manpower and vehicles at their disposal and can easily move a body from anywhere without being spotted or checked. Even otherwise, canal bridges have become notorious for what are dubbed as "encounters" between the security forces and the militants and for accomplices of suspected militants being taken for recovery of arms. Invariably, after these "encounters", the police proclaim that the detained person had "escaped," though in actuality he was done to death. It is now a firmly established fact that fake encounters and custodial deaths are endemic to the Punjab police and are the sole means of dealing with those. who fall foil of the force. The rot of the polIce Punjab is symptomic of the collapse of the state administration in the face of the militant threat.
  12. vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaaheguroojeekeefatheh !!!!!!! we all know that a culture and heritage is enriched by history and historical artifacts. if we have more historical evidence of our heritage we can learn from it, avoid future mistakes, and be inspired to be stronger and more determined to keep our faith. there is not always a guarantee in our homes that what we have will last. papers can get thrown away or burnt. uploading them here or on another website like gurmat studies foundation, sikh coalition, or united sikhs is a good idea just in case something happens to our original document. i'd like to encourage anybody who is interested in sharing something from their personal archives to post it here. post any old pictures, newspaper articles, artifacts from sikh history, etc. you can either scan them or take a digital camera photo of them or use a text-scan software to take the text out of a newspaper article and format it as a text document so you can paste it in your post on the forum. either way, please post! please provide details behind your posting and any sources if necessary. Post here or post at http://forums.waheguroo.com/index.php?showtopic=13950 thanks please forgive me for any mistakes stay in chardee kalaa vaaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaaheguroojeekeefatheh !!!!!!

  17. ARSON FIRE DESTROYS TEMPLE http://www.wltribune.com/portals-code/list...id=616615&more= By KAREN LONGWELL Tribune Staff Writer Mar 28 2006 Arson is being blamed for a fire that completely destroyed the interior of the Gurdwara Western Singh Sabha Sikh Temple on Sunday afternoon. Sean Alan Downey, 18, of Williams Lake was charged on Monday with arson and damage to property, says Cpl. Marc Menard in a press release. Williams Lake Crown Counsel will be seeking to have him remanded in custody for a 30-day psychiatric evaluation, adds Menard. Williams Lake RCMP wish to inform the public that this is not a racially motivated incident, says Menard. Damage to the inside of the temple is quite extensive and a lot of work will be needed to restore the temple to its original state, says Menard. RCMP investigators have roughly estimated the damage to be somewhere around $500,000, he says. Further investigation by insurance agents will be more accurate, he adds. No injuries were reported, says Cpl. Rocky Calhoun in a press release. The fire also destroyed the main altar in the temple and a holy [enlightener], the Guru Granth Sahib, which is very emotional and painful for the members, says spokesperson for the temple Gian Singh Sandhu. "The holy [enlightner] is living proof of the guru and we treat the [guru] no differently than a human being," says Sandhu. The temple priest Davinder Singh lives in a suite in the temple and was inside when the incident occurred, says Sandhu. The temple holds classes for children every Sunday afternoon and the class finished at about 3:15 p.m. this Sunday. Shortly after the class, at about 3:30 p.m., the priest saw a young man break a window and enter the temple. The priest saw the incident on a security system monitor in his room, says Sandhu. The priest called 911 and at the same time heard the man running upstairs, he says. With the language barrier the priest had some difficulty communicating with emergency services so he called a member of the temple executive right after calling 911, says Sandhu. As the priest was leaving the building, he saw smoke, says Sandhu, and he rushed out of the building. Sandhu is impressed with the quick action of emergency services. "Credit goes to the RCMP for quickly responding to the call and apprehending the fellow," says Sandhu. "We are very appreciative." RCMP believe the fire at the temple is related to a structure fire at a mobile home in the 1100 block of Third Avenue, says Calhoun. Williams Lake Fire Department and the RCMP responded to a report of a mobile home fire shortly after 3 p.m., says Calhoun. The fire department was able to confine the fire to the bedroom of the mobile home, says Calhoun. Fire Chief Dale Moon says the mobile home fire was not major. While the fire department was dealing with the mobile home fire they were called to the structure fire at the temple on Pine Street, says Calhoun. Both fires are believed to be related and the police have reason to believe that they were deliberately set, says Calhoun. Moon says about 30 members attended along with crew from 150 Mile House. The fire was under control after about one hour, says Moon. He adds that they were fortunate to stop it when we did. "The shear hard work of the members stopped the fire before it went any further," says Moon. Sandhu says the temple will go ahead with services next Sunday in a yet to be determined location. He adds that the temple was insured.
  18. Same news from Globe and Mail today It is good they are doing coverage, but not very much coverage at all only new info they gave in the article compared to other articles : RCMP Corporal Mark Menard said police are confident the temple fire was not racially motivated. so the man who did this is not racist, just ABSOLUTELY CRAZY. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...PStory/National

  20. does anybody have more details on this ? http://www.justiceforimmigrants.org/HR4437.html http://www.immigrantsolidarity.org/ http://www.nohr4437.org/ Major Provisions of HR 4437 The following is a summary of the major provisions of H.R. 4437, the Border Protection, Anti-Terrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act of 2005. The legislation passed the House of Representatives 239-182 on Friday, December 16, 2005. * “Unlawful presence” would now be considered a crime and a felony, meaning that undocumented immigrants may have to serve jail time and would be barred from future legal status and from re-entry into the country. * Immigrants, including asylum-seekers, victims of human trafficking, victims of domestic abuse, and children who are apprehended along an international border or at a port-of-entry would be detained until such time as they are removed from the nation or otherwise provided immigration relief. * Anyone or any organization who “assists” an individual without documentation “to reside in or remain” in the United States knowingly or with “reckless disregard” as to the individual’s legal status would be liable for criminal penalties and five years in prison. This could include church personnel who provide shelter or other basic needs assistance to an undocumented individual. Property used in this act would be subject to seizure and forfeiture. * The use of expedited removal, which would permit DHS enforcement personnel to remove a potential asylum-seeker without providing an opportunity to appear before an immigration judge or qualified adjudicator, would be mandated within 100 miles of the border and within 14 days of a person’s entry into the country. * The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) would be required to erect up to 700 miles of fencing along the Southwest border at points with the highest number of immigrant deaths. * State and local law enforcement are authorized to enforce federal immigration laws. State and local governments which refuse to participate would be subject to the loss of federal funding. * Asylum seekers and refugees who are convicted of a minor offense, such as petty theft, would be barred from permanent legal residence and eventual citizenship. * Document fraud would be considered an aggravated felony and would subject an asylum-seeker to deportation and bars to re-entry. * Nationals from countries who do not accept the return of aliens who commit crimes in this country would not be admitted to the United States. This would include countries such as China, Vietnam, and Cuba. * DHS would be given the authority to continue to detain individuals who have served their sentences based upon a determination that they are a “dangerous alien,” contrary to Supreme Court rulings barring indefinite detention. * The diversity visa lottery program, which allows 50,000 immigrants each year from countries around the world to permanently reside in the United States, is eliminated. These represent a few of the most egregious provisions of H.R. 4437. We urge you to contact your representatives to express deep concern with the passage of this legislation.
