  1. First and foremost, it's extremely important they pick up English. I will assume they know a little since they're here. English people MAY hire them if their English is decent. Second, ENCOURAGE them to look for better jobs as they do not wanna be banged up in a desi factory all their life. Pick up exp from desi then 6 - 12 months down they wanna go in for an English ran factory. SIA Course! Yes, it's a licence that needs paying for every two years. However, it's worth it!!! Whether Door Supervisor or CCTV monitor doesn't matter. Get them in such courses for security. From experience, Security roles are hard but if we talk about management, more pay and easy going role??? SIA is it. And apne have extreme patience and integrity for such roles (being their for the Business, understanding going above hours). Also if possible get them into construction (harder for female possibly)??? But if they can work in construction they then require CSCS License (literally like car theory, study book, apply for test then get CSCS license on pass). Construction is always contract due to nature of role but a lot of move around the country. I guess wha am saying is... THINK BIG!!! Factory (especially desi factory) is a mere starting point and only good for income. Encourage them to go and think huge!!! FINAL TIP: Tell them to think huge in about 8 months time from now. They only just got in the UK so their mind and heart will not be in ANYTHING, let alone someone telling them to think big. LOL not your fault at all but they will badly miss their family and absolutely hate UK mainly as it's a begana country to them. Once they're happy, having fun then move in with wha I just said. Fateh.
  2. Waheguru Ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji k Fateh, Another post stating my thoughts and beliefs. Working at a construction site my job is escorting workers / vehicles and looking after things, due to the nature of the institute this is required at the place. The Site manager and supervisor were concerned about me going in the actual construct site due to me unable to wear a hard hat because of the Turban. Not saying anything yet (Manager needed HIS Manager's views) even though I could have had stated "Sikhs are exempt due to Turban..." However, I had to mull it over before stating anything. I looked at the situation and needed a night to think it through. During the week I approached the manager and agreed on my own terms that I will wear a small turban (a.k.a Patka) so a hard hat can fit over. He thanked me for my Considerations. So now I wear a Patka to work. Before we look at the thankful law "Sikhs are exempt from wearing hard hats who wear Turbans" we need to take into consideration other factors. First and Foremost, the Dastaar MUST be a Fortified Dastaar to wear at such work places. When the Sikhs fought a war alongside the Guru Sahibs, their Dastaars were the fully Nihang type Dastaar; Shastar beneath, gol blade (can't remember technical term maybe kalgi)? around it. THEN Dastaar on top (even that had the gol shastar going around it). No matter which direction the Moghul attacked on the Sikh / Kaur's heads, the head would have been completely unaffected due to the Hard Turban tying soldiers. Imagine bricks falling onto somebody's head, from a height, who wore a normal Dastaar? Nokh and a normal gol? That can seriously injure or kill the person. All sorts of trouble will be gone through with the Management, laws, Gurudware committee getting involved all this and that. However, if it falls on someone who's wearing a Fortified dastaar, that person has most chances of surviving. And a Patka wearing with hard helmet? The chance of survival is great. In construction all sorts goes on; carrying ladders, trip hazard, falling materials, tight places, crawling... NOTE: Hard Hats are not a perfect thing in the world as on impact, they can easily break and still get through to the head. However, many accidents and mishaps have been prevented due to their usage. So on ANY construction sites two things are the only best safety. Hard Hats and Fortified Turbans. Anything else is asking for trouble.
  3. From my knowledge, protein for vegetarians and vegans would be chicpeas in warm water left overnight. Next day pop in mixed nuts and seeds (grounded from fresh) and eat away, a good portion.
  4. Shastar Vidiya is definitely worth learning.
  5. Well, yeah it's quite a conundrum with E Cigs I say we should not judge. Maybe E Cigs are 100% healthy? This post's quite old and as we grow, we age we become wise. I no longer look down on Amritdhari Sikhs committing Kureths, let alone smoke E Cigs. Not that I smoked but E cigs might be fine as long as it has no actual drugs in it. P.S. Old posts are popping up NOW (2022) under notifications.
  6. I suppose I just hate the radio because, once a year the presenters sat there asking for money. It went on daily for 5 - 6 weeks! LITERALLY the whole show was about funds to keep radio running (I believe 100k kept it running for a year back in 2015)? Okay, other times, presenters were just being pure Desi folks and throwing out sad news or see a good news in negative light. What do you expect to hear on Vaisakhi day? "HAPPY VAISAKHI! Let's play some Punjabi music in this joyous occasion..." But Panjab Radio? "Happy Vaisakhi Ji... Pr appa lokh k karde aa? Aj Panjab wich aa kaand hogia... Sadi quam suthi py aa!" I mean why not leave such news for next day? ਸੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਰੇਡੀਓ, ਸੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਗੱਲਾ. Anyone listen to Sabras or any other Desi radio? Young, enthusiastic presenters, care-free, sohnia galla all the time. There is a time and day for elder presenters to come along and talk about pressing issues and matters relating back to our Homeland, India... Joyous occasion IS NOT that day. With the Grace of Akaal Purakh, the Bibi who listened to Panjab radio at work (hence I was forced to listen to it) got some senses smacked into her and she would listen to MP3 Kirtan in morning, Hindi songs later on instead of Panjab radio, FINALLY realising the kartoots of Panjab Radio and stopped listening to it.
  7. For now, the list is most likely to be top 5. Although he never directly attack but his toxicity has caused damage nontheless. His indirect attacks have seemed to be efficient in our Quam.
  8. Shrines, no. We ONLY worship SGGS. No statues, shrines. Pilgrimage? Some Sikhs MAY go on a pilgrim but these days? Who gonna walk? It's all about car / taxi services. Many Brahmgianis have walked days, weeks and months to get from one Gurudwara to the next. However, it is about the Spiritual pilgrim according to SGGS THAT is more important. Amritsar CAN be considered Holy. In SGGS 3rd Guru Ji has mentioned "Whoever calls themselves a Sikh of the Guru must arise early to meditate. THEN go Amritsar to Bathe..." Hence when we go India we must take time to visit the Darbaar Sahib. The holiest shrine? Gurbani has mentioned the holiest shrine is within us. However, physical acts like Pilgrims, visiting places are important as we gain Sadh Sangat from it. We do sevas of maintaining these physical shrines. Our sins are washed and we start our within journey anew. IMO if one is spiritually high in their jeevan and they visit a Gurudwara, whereas another isn't and they visit Darbaar Sahib, the high in Jeevan will benefit the most. The one that isn't gets a fresh slate/ back on square one. Not to forget the miraculous stories visiting Darbaar Sahib. Someone gone blind got their sights back, leporesy got cured, langraa started walking again, cancer disappeared - once the people entered the Holy Sarovar and submerged.
  9. LOL no ਵ in Gurmukhi or no V in Gurmukh? V I can understand and some write "Vaheguru" which is frustrating! There is ZERO English letters in Gurmukhi. You think you will go Taksaal, hope to learn Sankhia / Santhia in English? SGGS is not in English (though Gutkha come in English) it's a good start point but has ZERO room in terms of Santhia. I remember once at a Sikh youth program, one week we got told "Learn Gurmukhi! It's the only way to learn Baani" (some write Vaani which is gay). AND "English cannot be mixed into Gurmukhi." I AGREE!!! If you want to learn START learning Gurmukhi!!! Following week? SAME PROGRAM SAME PEOPLE - "When we write we're meant to write Jee ਜੀ instead of Ji ਜੇ ? Of course, Gurmukhi keyboard wasn't a thing back then but talk about hypocrisy! If English cannot be thrown into the mix then you can write it however! As long as we understand... (But Vaani with V is still gay) and I'll tell u why! Look at the sound V makes and read Vaani / ਬਾਣੀ. How have u pronounced the both? And if there's no V in Gurmukhi what's "Vaheguru" (or Vaheguroo)??? I know the above I wrote is hypocritical BUT STILL! A. Gurmukhi and English DO NOT mix. B. Stop using V and use W if you must! C. English letters in Gurbani don't mix! How you suppose to write ਛਿੱਟੇ in English? Or pronounce ਸ਼? ਭੁੱਲ ਚੁੱਕ ਮੁਆਫ.
  10. Is he highly spiritual? If so he may have cursed you... Get ready for a bodi my friend..
  11. What we need to remember, Aasa d vaar - "Din chadia agla nith aap duwaaia." God gives food everyday (have I got the shabd right)??? Akaal Purakh looks after it's ants, 4.2 million species beneath the Ocean and provides for them (SGGS). "Oode ood aave s kausa, tis pache bachre chdiaa." Akaal Purakh's treasures are inexhaustible. One day it will be end of humankind, buy certainly not end of treasures; Food, fruits, water - human ALWAYS find ways to modify nature, even talks of CLONING food in labs (absolutely disgusting) but prefer this over humans ANY DAY. Yes, sadly, nature and natural food may not be the norm in the far, far future but they will carry to be present and modified. Akaal Purakh has given us the inexhaustible treasure but what we do with it? Thas up to us. Akaal Purakh will not dessert us of treasures.
  12. Good point! As I said literally in a last post, this is Kaljug and nature is given a place at the bottom. Businesses, workers, paisa - all comes first. If we whole heartedly cared for the environment? We would banish cars, tractor aeroplane and replace these with horses, cycles and ships. Of course we all know thas not gonna happen! Instead we will just get big talks and excuses "No! Electric vehicle" or "NO! Who gonna keep horses? Who gonna clean up their mess on roads." And every household has electronic items, printer, laptop, phones. Can u imagine getting rid of these items and reverting back to post, going to banks, letters, family time involving NON tv? Or growing our own harvest 80% of the time? Obviously we have become SO toxic we talk HUUUUUUGGGGEEE about the environment but no one is willing to go full length to actually do the right thing. My friends, the damage is done. NOTHING we can do about it now.
  13. This is Kaljug where nature is given last place, right at the bottom.
  14. Sikhs in Ukraine might as well take part and help out. Being sitting ducks will get them nowhere fast.
  15. No. Social media was intended for a good purpose but look wha happened? Kids will rather spend more time on social media than family / guests. Parents are equally guilty for taking out the "easy" route, giveakid d phone! No running around after them, don't have t deal with their cries. Parents then not looking after their kids properly. Hey! Am guilty too atm... Am on this forum when I should be talking to my wife, spend time with her... But she's next t me on her phone. Wha she's doing? I no idea.
  16. I believe Khalsa Aid have gone out to help. So it's something. As for Sikh Soldiers join in the fight? Very difficult to say that. Anything political will ALWAYS have consequences. Are there Sikh Soldiers over the Russia side? Is Putin the real baddy? AM NOT ASKING THIS!!! But political actions ask this.
  17. Remembering my youth days having taken Amrit at 17, I was extremely uptight and thought "The world is wrong..." At 25 I eased up a little. Not a lot but a little. So, things that matter to Amritdhari... Amrit must be taken by Panj Pyaare, 5 k's MUST be kept on at all times Doing seven Baania is a MUST (Japji and Jaap before consuming ANYTHING) but we as Sikhs do Panj baania before breakfast. Sangat, Simran and Seva is a huge must. Simran / paat everyday. Only bow down before SGGS. Giving up five vices. Keep away from the 4 major sins. Now to focus on IT'S OKAY It's okay to have dhoof or jot in the house. It's okay to enjoy life. Have a good laugh. Know others views are different. For the purpose of studying, Reading and studying SGGS online, despite Angs are over / below 1429 Walk in Mosque / Mandhir for wedding venue/ funeral. Seeing a Sikh walking in / out McDonald's. Listening to music. I guess what am saying is... EASE UP a little bit. Learn to be a Sikh and ask yourself... The world is wrong, it has problems, but what have I done myself? I had 4 hours did I spend 1.5 hours doing Simran? I walked by Gurudwara but did I stop by to matha teek? So taking it easy and self reflection will get u far. But not reflecting and crying over others, will get u nowhere. If you read the Jeevan of ANY saints in Sikhi, none of them ever got irritated or upset. They knew the world is wrong but first they sorted themselves out, then they dealt / gave Giaan to others. Minimum 6 months practice you too can be on that pathway. Have u kept the 5 vices at bay? Have you been observing Amritvela? Had you FOCUSED on Seven Baanias? With help of YouTube / Google are we reading the Translation of the Gurbania? So our mann can follow whas being said?
