  1. But I wasn't talking about the US. I'm talking about Canada. The problems you listed aren't present in Canada. Job security, free healthcare, ample vacation time are things provided in Canada, heck, Canada is the flag bearer for free health care in North America.
  2. What other factors exactly? I tried going the other way, North America to UK, and noticed its harder to come by opportunities in the UK than it is possible in North America.
  3. Is it really that bad over there? Why is that? North America in general has far more opportunities than Britain. You have to fight harder in Britain for your fair share than in North America, from what I've experienced.
  4. You mean culturally Arab, even though the Arabs do not hold you equal. So why not just convert to be a Hindu or Sikh to be a part of that economic domination? Wasn't that one of the reasons people in the past converted to Islam during the Islamic heyday? So, according to you, all you guys are doing through Pakistan is propagating Arabic culture instead of your own for economic reasons? Kind of seems spineless and shallow to me.
  5. Sikh Dalits have been treated way better than Muslim low castes historically. Mazhabi Sikhs have been glorified in Sikh history. If you folk are so egalitarian, I'd like to see you all marry your daughters to Muslim low castes. But instead you all deride them as "chamars" or "churas" in Pakistan. Some Jatts in East Punjab have actually reformed their casteist beliefs and have given sections of their lands to Sikh Dalits to work on and make a living from. Unlike West Punjab, East Punjab has actually enabled quotas for Dalits to prosper given their disadvantaged social standing. And as for discrimination of Dalits in places of religious worship, well Islam is no better: http://islamicvoice.com/untouchability-among-muslims/
  6. Okay now this is completely wrong and false. Even your own sensible Pakistani scholars such as Ishtiaq Ahmed admit that it was Muslims that began the killings of Sikhs/Hindus in Rawalpindi/North Punjab. Large-scale mass killings also began in West Punjab with killings of Sikhs/Hindus. Any action taken in East Punjab by Sikhs/Hindus was in retaliation. If the Sikhs had decided to wipe out Muslims in East Punjab as the Muslims actually did for Sikhs/Hindus, there would be no Muslims left in East Punjab at all today. Look at the demographics in East Punjab and you will see that there are still more than 500,000 ethnic Punjabi Muslims living there. And mind you, they are treated without any hostility. The same can't be said for the meager 50,000 Sikhs in all of Pakistan that despite holding iftars for poor Muslims get murdered in daylight, like Charanjeet Singh. The truth is that Pakistani Muslims are hostile to anything non-Islamic from the very beginning, and the effect of it can still be felt today where Pakistani Sikhs, Christians and even Ahmadi Muslims are being killed.
  7. You just reaffirmed why British Sikhs should immigrate to Canada: you are collectively more educated. With the kind of education you guys have, you can better the Sikh influence in Canada. Also, there are way more opportunities to fill up in Canada than there are available in Britain. You don't all have to immigrate to Ontario or Vancouver (where there are problems with Sikhs that you have identified which will smooth over in a generation or two), you can go to other provinces and establish influence there. Now is the perfect time to do so. And it's not even about Muslims. I'm not saying you people should move away from the UK because of Muslims haha. I'm saying its better to pool our influence into one country than to be spread out sparsely. And Sikhs in Canada have the lead in terms of influence and leadership over their other Sikh counterparts, so it's better to migrate over there. I don't see what's wrong with this exactly, it's not like Britain is our ancestral jameen lol that we can't part from it.
  8. This hasn't been my experience. I have Jatt Muslim friends who claim Arab heritage, some even go as far to claim Syed, and Rajput Muslims claiming Afghan. Genetic tests show that Pakistani Muslims have pretty much no foreign ancestry or ancestry that is not found in their non-Muslim counterparts. I have seen and heard about the fabricated family trees that my Pakistani friends tell me are a source of pride for their families for generations. The truth is that they are fake and false. Even Bulleh Shah, an Arain, ridicules his family for believing that they are Syeds.
  9. I'm talking about the inter-religious faith ceremonies that we hold at our Gurudwaras. The standing up for other religions. We tend to try to appease other communities too much or attempt to come off as being helpgul. We put all our effort into that, and instead denigrate our own fellow Sikhs and our practices by incorporating and being flexible to the practices of others. Where's our "Ankh"?
  10. This is not the case at all. Punjabis, according to David Reich's study are pretty much homogenized when it comes to genetics, and we are all composed of the following genetic components: Steppe nomads (Aryans) + Iranian Neolithic farmers + Indigenous hunterers and gatherers. We do not have any Mughal/Turkic blood. None at all. Also, there's no such thing as our mother's side being indigineous. According to mtDNA (haplogroup passed on maternally) frequencies in Punjabis, almost 2/3 of us have our maternal heritage coming from West Eurasia. The whole concept of the male invader raping the female local is absurd. It was a collective mix. Think of it like an ancient United States, where people slowly mixed among each other.
  11. This is a very vain discussion.
  12. Not only Jatts but Khatris, Rajputs and Tarkhans practice it as well.
  13. I think the Sikh pecking order is kind of parallel to the Muslim pecking order. The Khatris are like the Arabs from what I've seen with extended family. They are extremely hyprocitical in that they often participate in practices going against Sikhi kind of like how Gulf Arabs are big on affluent and degenerate lifestyles. The Jatts are probably akin to the Turks/Iranians and place their Jatt heritage above Sikhi, and so there's that. Same goes for Rajputs. The rest of the Sikhs tribes are fervently religious like South Asian Muslims. Mazhabi/Dalit Sikhs are often the most strict practicing Sikhs. They don't break rules. Their only source of pride is Sikhi, and I admire them for that.
  14. Absolutely not, although yes they do view being Muslim as being superior to others. But you have South Asian Muslims that love to claim being descended from Mughals and being the rulers of South Asia. Some will trace their lineage back to Arabs, Persians, Afghans and claim their historical achievements. In fact, I remember a friend telling me that he was descended from an Arabian tribe that would later go on to conquer Andalusia and therefore he prided himself on that. In reality, he was a Pakistani Punjabi Muslim who then got his DNA results back to be only proved wrong and his ancestor's lies to be caught.
  15. The way I see it is that the Muslims groups such as the Turks, Iranians, Lebanese who have a glorious, rich pre-Islamic heritage tend to disassociate themselves with their Islamic identity when they want to. The only notable exception to this would be the Egyptians, although the reason I think they are on board with the Islamic identity is because they play an integral role in it as well, considering Hagar, the mother of Ishmael and ancestor to Muhammad was an Egyptian and them being Semites as well. The Turks have Turkic history, the Iranians have a rich tradition going back to being a superpower in antiquity under the Achaemenid Empire and as you mentioned the Lebanese were the sea faring Phoenicians. Now coming to South Asian Muslims, they don't have any of that pre-Islamic glory. Their pride and identity stems from Islam and Islam only. Without it, they have no heritage to be proud of, and I think that is also another reason they double down on it.
  16. Tell your mom to choose a firm path. Educate her on the failings of Hinduism and her Hindu practices mingled with Sikhi. A good, respectful discussion with parents can go a long way. You have even more hope of directing her to pure Sikhi if you live in the West. I got my mother to stop doing Karva Chauth simply by having a discussion and backing it up with Gurbani.
  17. True. Also, Turks, Iranians and Lebanese in the West aren't even that religious based on my acquaintances. They never believed in the Ummah or propagating Islam - a prime example is Nader Shah's invasion of the Mughal Empire.
  18. Not really. In fact, the earliest Hinduism practiced as entailed in the Rig Veda is offering sacrifices to the Gods. So instead of pouring milk over an idol, you had people sacrificing things like animals and placing them on the alter for the Gods (such as Indra). Here is a quote where Indra is speaking to those offering him sacrifices (Rig Veda, Book 10, Hymn LXXXVI) - So, Hinduism has been flawed from the beginning. I suppose it actually improved overall as it developed given its original form.
  19. If we are thoughts, then God has some pretty mean, evil, disgusting thoughts. Wouldn't that go against the claim of God being perfect then?
  20. I understand that argument but why? Considering your parents gave birth to you, is a perfect creator needed to start creation? If you look at the Abrahamic God, it clearly turns out that He is jealous and incomplete, seeking obedience.
  21. I agree. But what I've always been wrestling with is why does God need to be perfect? Why can't God be flawed? Perhaps there is an answer in Sikhi that I am unaware of, and one of you would like to share.
  22. Yeah, Indra seduced Ahalya, the wife of Gautama Maharishi, into coitus.
