  1. Why was my reply deleted?

    Here is my original reply:

Yes, at the current moment the calendar issue should obviously take backstage as with any other issue. But this thread was started and the last reply was more than a year before the Kisaan Protest. More over, this issue was solved in 2003 when a concensus was made. This calendar thing only became an issue in 2010 when SGPC out of blue (due to Badal's orders) screwed and toyed with the calendar.

    1. What do you mean he has no common sense? Give an example?

    2. When has Purewal pushed the Panth around? He was comissioned to create a calendar and did his job. Now he has spent over 2 decades defending his work hearing the same dumb arguments over and over again by people who don't know the basics of astronomical mathematics or don't even know the true Bikrami dates of Gurpurabs.

If by common sense you mean that he is giving too many deep technical points that no average person won't understand, then ask the question why is this even needed? Why are the personal vendettas of 3 people (Col. Surjit Singh Nishan, Anurag Singh, and Harjinder Singh Dilgeer [who does nindia of Dasam Pita's bani]) putting the Panth in confusion.

Also, don't take this daas as a blind supporter of Purewal. I have disagreements with him as well. Purewal believes that 1 Phagan should be celebrated as Bandi Chhorr Divas as that was the day Guru Hargobind Patshah returned to Amritsar. I disagree and would like to keep the status quo of celebrating Guru Sahibs release from Gwalior on Diwali. However, we both do agree that Diwali wasn't the day Guru Sahib returned to Amritsar. Purewal also believes Holla Mohalla should be celebrated on 1 Chet, as Holi/Holla mark the start of the New Year. I understand his point, but I also see no problem with celebrating a day after Holi (the status quo).

This doesn't matter as in the 2003 version of the calendar, 3 dates: Guru Nanak Dev Ji Parkash, Holla Mohalla, and Bandi Chhorr were kept on Katak Sudi Pooranmashi, Chet Vadi 1, and Katak Vadi 14/Massia respectively. So Purewal's opinion doesn't matter here as the Panth decided to have these 3 dates used the old Bikrami system alongside the birthdates of the Bhagat Sahibaan (as other communities celebrate them as well). The point is that the 2003 Mool Nanakshahi calendar was made after many deep discussions and considerations of the dates in our historical granths.

Update since 2019: Since Sri Akal Takht Sahib is unable to bring a meeting, somebody on YouTube decided to a Zoom conference call with Pal Singh Purewal, Col. Surjit Singh Nishan, and other folks. In them, Nishan has admitted that 23 Poh (Jan 5) is correct as per the formula of the 2003 version of the Nanakshahi calendar.

  2. This could have been used to measure Pehar timings.

A common misconception is that a pehar is 3 hours long, this is far from the case. A pehar is dynamic depending on what part of the day one is in.

There are two parts in day: Daytime and Nighttime. This means there are two types of pehars.

    Daytime: Sunrise to Sunset
    Nighttime: Sunset to next Sunrise

Since Sun timings are always changing, pehar timings are always different.

1st Daytime Pehar - Starts at Sunrise
3rd Daytime Pehar - Starts at Solar Noon

1st Nighttime Pehar - Starts at Sunset
3rd Nighttime Pehar - Starts at Solar Midnight.

In total there are 8 Pehars, but one cannot assume the daytime and nighttime pehars are of the same length.

  3. Ignore this guy. There are already many institutions and YouTube channels supporting Gurmat Sangeet.

Guru Sahib never forbade non-Raag kirtan. Rather many Sikhs from this group you claim to be "anti-raag" have learned Raag from an Ustaad. There is no way you can do proper Kirtan without learning some type or form of Raag. There is no such thing as "anti-raag", it is a strawman argument.

Instead of complaining on an internet forum, what have you done? Have you gone out and learned Raag? Are you trying to learn the traditional instruments like the Dilruba, Saranda, Taus, Rabab, Jorri, etc.? There are many ustaads now teaching Gurmat Sangeet and much literature published on the topic that there is no excuse to say Raag is dying or is dead.

Please realize  that behangams (celibate, non-working such as Dera taksalis/nihangs and nanaksari babas)  sikhs have a different maryada than grihistis who have jobs and kids to take care of.

    Lol

Thankfully, Guru Sahib has given Maryada of only Grihast Gursikhs (married, never divorced/remarried) to do seva in Panj.

yes and in the end of the charitar, the author mentions that He needs green cup.

even at the start of fatehnama there is mention of shaheedi degh.

The author (Guru Sahib) is going katha of the Charitar. Guru Sahib isn't literally saying to get a green cup, neither is Guru Sahib talking to Saki.

I will look into the Fatehnama, but the example you have given seems to be from the mangal/sirlekh, not the actual text. Sirlekhs can be interpolated.

alcohol is mentioned twice in Krishna avatar Dasam Granth Ji.

Sanatanis and their wrong arths if Sri Dasam Granth. These people are doing beadbi of Guru Sahib with their wrong arths.

First of all, Krishnaavtaar is katha. It is not meant as a spiritual guide.

In that story, Bhrigu Rishi was against alcohol because of the 'Kach' incident. But in this case, after the Yudh, the wine given to Krishan was from Brahma.

This has nothing to do with it being allowed or not, but it is just a point Guru Gobind Singh Ji added to that story, as it is a Katha.

Frankly, I believe we should boycott these Sanatanis just like we boycott Missionaries. They do the same wrong arths, but arrive at different conclusions.

    RASAAVAL STANZA
I neither wear matted hair on the head nor bedeck myself with ear-rings.
I meditate on the Name of the Lord, which helps me in all my errands.51.

I do not wear matted hair on my head, nor do I put rings in my ears.
I do not pay attention to anyone else, all my actions are at the bidding of the Lord.36.

Then I created Gorakh, who made great kings his disciples.
His disciples wear rings in their ears and do not know the love of the lord.24.

We also need to take into consideration:

    ਪਰਥਾਇ ਸਾਖੀ ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਸਾਝੀ ਸਗਲ ਜਹਾਨੈ ॥
Great men speak the teachings by relating them to individual situations, but the whole world shares in them.

So even if Guru Sahib was speaking about the Yogis, it applies universally.

Yes, at the end of the amrit sanchar panj Singh will ask if their is anyone who hasn’t had a gurmukh naam karan or Anand karaj. Then those like you who haven’t had that sanscar will be blessed with a name from guru sahib. A couple from another religion  that hasn’t had laavan can even have them done there and then.

It’s cuz SGPC is there. SGPC literally destroys sikhi. If u look at the maryada of a sevadar at darbar sahib, it’s says the sevadar needs to have a patiala shahi pagg type turban or any pointed dastar. Sevadars cannot wear gol dastars or dumallas. Sevadars have to wear a pajami with their chola, they can’t just wear only a kashera with their chola. I’m sure these people do not also allow bibis to do kirtan. In sant jis time, bibis used to be allowed to do kirtan. SGPC probably has many corrupt people as leaders. We need Budha dal, damdami taksal, tarna dal and all other jathebandis to come together to confront sgpc and to unite under one Nishan sahib

Bro, you cannot be this ignorant.

Those groups you mentioned are the ones who keep stopping women from doing keertan. Dhumma Taksal threw a fit when Punjab Government recommended Bibyan be allowed to do seva.

SGPC had already made a decision to allow bibyan to do keertan seva in 1940, and Sri Akal Takht Sahib reaffirmed it in 1996.
