  1. you mean like become a likhari? handwritten pothi? i dont have any experience regarding binding gutka sahib
  2. pragmatically speaking, it would be easier for youth to control desire for opposite gender when they are tied to commitment, like at least a roka if not a marraige
  3. Anyone know how to obtain physical saroop of the pothi?
  4. and there was quite the amount of chaos in the mid 1780s that would have torn the country apart
  5. yeah and what was being reported was biased against sant ji sant ji had hundreds of thousands of supporters, hundreds of thousands attended sarbat khalsa 1986 and partook in dharm yudh morcha but millions of common folk arent involved in quami sangarsh and were neutral or more concerned with running a household, do you know about the average person in the late 80s/90s, not everything was revolved around kharku singhs and the lehar (outside majha) even though it had a large impact, there were other cultural phenomenon taking place in entertainment industry that eroded the chardikala spirit of the youth during the 90s majority of sikhs/punjabis were gumraah and asleep back then and its only gotten worse or better in some ways today
  6. has anyone here purchased/read bhai kamalpreet singh pardeshi's books on japji sahib? any thoughts? its an english commentary based off of sant giani gurbachan singh jee, taksal sampardai teeka, sant kirpal singh satogali wale, other katha sources
  7. giani thakur singh's katha of japji sahib is based off of and mostly parallel to the sampardai vidya/sant giani gurbachan singh jees katha so it works and he is easy to understand
  8. how would it different for them to take Amrit mixed with blood of boar/pig compared to consuming boar's blood in general
  9. wouldn't there be a difference in serving them boar's blood mixed in pahul as opposed to make them consume it outside amrit sanchar to test them was there a similar tactic to filter out possible Hindu infiltrators
  10. but in khande di pahul veerji? seems to be likely an altercation to the original pahul ceremony
  11. exactly, unless you were close to Taksal or an Amritdhari sikh, chances were you would be unaware not everyone could just tune in to sant jis speeches or katha on the doordarshan channel and find out what was going on so majority of even the sikhs blindly followed the "moderate" Akalis (it was only during peak of Kharku lehar in punjab that some rural areas like that of tarn taran became majority supporters of the kharkkus)
  12. the son of the <banned word filter activated> hardev was killed in a car accident in canada if I remember correctly
  13. I somewhat or strongly agree with all of those except the starting with pakistani panjab part
  14. what about baba nihal singh harianbela and the nanaksari sants, they were also present alongside baba santa singh when kar sewa was done following operation blue star
  15. bibi, if you look at our itihaas, that was never how we flourished nor how we prospered as long as we were under pressure, we were in chardikala and rising in numbers and dominance sikhi didnt grow by there being a couple hundreds or thousands sikhs of Guru Gobind Singh ji having children, we grew as people came into the fold of sikhi seeing what we are about its not like we havent produced offspring in last century or so but we havent had a bigger erosion in sikhi principles since the periods of the guru, and we havent had such a loss in our khajana (primarily due to sgpc management on top of the dwindling disinterest of our own people), the past century has been more brutal to us as a people than the mughals our echos and psyche has been damaged, far worse than any ghallughara from 18th century having more kids aloof to sikhi is pointless if we dont have the parchar and resources in place beforehand, unless we want them to inherit the disfragmented sikhi that is dominant right now and again, need not worry bout numbers as our numbers have been 96 crore from the beginning and will be for eternity, as it is right now as well, time will bring them out when we are in dire need
  16. yet the largest shifts in population and fastest growth we are seeing right now are to suburban areas, ive lived in both a major part of the urbanization was jobs and industries being based in urban areas which is why employees would move to those areas but nowadays there is a trend in more and more jobs being distant/from home (only accelerated by this pandemic) and even some companies making workplaces optional for you to come if you want to (sort of like libraries) so there is an gradual reduction in the practical need to live in urban areas apart from personal preference
  17. most of these things are stereotypes of course urban life is on the decline and most americans prefer suburbs
  18. most sikhs here in doaba are from lehnda punjab and many from the himachals (pahari raje and sipahis) , something to do with that perhaps?
  19. makes a ton of sense that seems prevalent amongst a lot of these clans nowadays considered jatt bhattis and dhamis would be examples too?
  20. so basically aroras are a type of khatri sorry but im getting curious bout my own lineage here, chohan/chauhans are rajputs or jatts? and is there a difference between sodh and sodhi, I heard katha of vadde mahapurkh on sri guru ram dass ji maharaj prakash utsav and they referred to their lineage as sodh vansh instead of sodhi
