NaamTiharoJoJape replied to puzzled's topic in GURBANI | SAKHIAN | HISTORY
Ah thank you I like this one I there is hum hindu nahin in this format as well Imagine how busy these people were in the singh sabha movement, reminds me of bhai jagraj singh calling bhai veer singh "sixth daria of punjab" due to how much literature flowed from these people -

Okay I think I found it One of most unlikely places If you go down on sikhiwiki page on prof puran singh, the very last link is to his translation of japji and sohila-arti In the additional references section -

I read about it somewhere in his biographies I just remembered because I was looking for it some years ago, it's interesting because it is one of the first translations of sri japji Sahib, that too by a sikh instead of maclauffe or trumpp -

Waheguru jio can anyone find a japji Sahib steek by prof puraan singh ji? -
Yeah he was I dont see the need to study texts of these guys We got plenty of literature that we should focus in preserving Much itihas has been lost, hopefully we move in from these books on sikh history that exhibit a elementary understanding of sikhi

Wh mcleod, while much appreciated, should be taken with grain of salt as intrigued has said If we are being honest we got much better, authentic authors like bhai kahn singh nabha, bhai veer singh, dr. Trilochan singh, prof Sahib singh etc. I forget this one author that has a two volume series, I read his work when I was 13 and the books were pretty good when I get home ill check it out I remember the person graduated from khalsa college amritsar in 1944 or 45

That was ernest trumpp from the 19th century He didnt even complete the translation of sri guru granth Sahib ji maharaj and left it only a third complete He called gurbani repetitive; said it was same thing over and over again He didnt even work hard enough to decipher the beej mantra, and simply called it ik Omkar, with om being a reference to the vedic symbol

Babaneea Kahaneea 'The stories of our Ancestors'
NaamTiharoJoJape replied to puzzled's topic in WHAT'S HAPPENING?
I'd argue for it to be the brightest as well -
Lol try rewording the first sentence It is understandable that a king is not always a saint But ranjit singh himself assured or accelerated the destruction of raaj
-
Has anyone heard that maharaja ranjit singh might've killed his own mother at suspicion of illicit affair after death of maha singh? And rani Jindan weakening khalsa army in revenge of her brother nahar singhs death, thus assuring our loss in the sikh Anglo wars? Why couldnt ranjit singh just keep upto 3 or 4 wives like a normal king lol? Many of his presumed heirs have been rumored to be sited by someone else? And why the hell would he drink wine with crushed Pearl's? Was this the grandson of sardar charhat singh who chased abdali, or descendent of sardar Budh singh one of pyare who blessed sardar Kapur singh virk with nawabi? This man is so frustrating?
-
I hope he wasnt exactly like his grandfather lol His wedding was likely one of the most extravagant weddings in history And indirect cause of sardar hari singh Nalwa death as he had to send a large contingent for protocol at the princes wedding in 1837 which left them quite weak in the jamrud northwest front Do you know why chand kaur didnt like her son? And wasnt Kharak singh a opium addict etc so nihal singh should be appreciated by chand kaur
-
Yeah he was a capable military strategist But nau nihal singh looked like the future
-
Giani sher singh ambala wale says sher singh was educated in a english missionary college and thus was culturally familiar and took a liking to them Hence his tied up beard, and the infantry uniforms, and he apparently had shirt, tie, pants when he came back from college and was beat up by the nihangs angry at his firangi bana
-
Wasnt the same chuhr singh beloved of ranjit singh lol
-
Did singh sabha figures like bhai kahn singh nabha and bhai veer singh support the cut-vad of sri benti chaupai? I've heard the former jathedar vedantis lame excuse for cutting last two couplets saying it doesnt follow ardas theme but that is debunked by guru Sahibs last promise that "man baanchat phal paavai soee dookh na tisai biapat koee" Was this solely due to people getting offended by "jag mata"
-
I appreciate secularism But most of us should oppose the erosion of khalsa principles in a supposed khalsa raj Ranjit singh did not exhibit the qualities of his ancestors I dont want to get in habit of claiming sgpc or british influenced scholars But this obsession with Maharaj ranjit singh is very confusing Similar to how most of panth has forgotten baba binod singh akali in veneration of baba banda singh bahadur
-
Nau nihal singhs wife was pregnant at time too I think pregnant women or women still nursing children dont have to become sati either way Plus with sardar sham singh Atari alive, he wouldnt let that happen I hope from what I've heard of him
-
Waheguru jio I have heard in the treaty of ropar (I think 1831) that when Maharaja ranjit singh proclaimed to the chief british ambassador his son Kharak singh as his successor, sardar hari singh Nalwa came at odds with him over the issue saying that only panth as a collective under panj pyaare have the right to instate a succesor to the ruler of khalsa raj Any thoughts? Also has anyone heard of or read twarikh e punjab I think from 1846 by Mohammed Latif? I've heard it's not a good or reliable source of history
-
I've mostly read positive stuff on kanwar nau nihal singh other than this muslim who villainizes him for apparently forcing chand kaur to commit sati (the piece seems like a total fantasy lol) Raja sher singh was a capable military strategist
-
How can sandhawalias claim the throne It wasnt their ancestor sardar chand singh who became a prominent sikh in dal khalsa in times of great turbulence, nor was he at the forefront like charhat Singh when fighting abdali They werent the misldars of gujranwala and sialkot sukerchakya misl lol I wonder by what reasoning they had a claim to the throne Rani sada kaur or raja fateh singh ahluwalia would have had a bigger claim to the throne
-
First son from Mehtab kaur, ishar singh died who was born right around time Kharak singh was
-
so basically from the responses ive gotten from you and other veerji that these guys are ultra reformers abrahmic influenced folks who dont believe in a vast ammoount of gurmat that happens to tie in with vedic/indic beliefs hard to get these folks back at this point lol k singh khalsa has some good videos on countering these people though
