  1. Ardaas stage 3 (part 3) swrg mhlw 5 ] pRBu myro ieq auq sdw shweI ] mnmohnu myry jIA ko ipAwro kvn khw gun gweI ]1] rhwau ] Kyil iKlwie lwf lwfwvY sdw sdw AndweI ] pRiqpwlY bwirk kI inAweI jYsy mwq ipqweI ]1] iqsu ibnu inmK nhI rih skIAY ibsir n kbhU jweI ] khu nwnk imil sMqsMgiq qy mgn Bey ilv lweI ]2]25]48] Saarang, Fifth Mehla: Here and hereafter, God is forever my Help and Support. He is the Enticer of my mind, the Beloved of my soul. What Glorious Praises of His can I sing and chant? ||1||Pause|| He plays with me, He fondles and caresses me. Forever and ever, He blesses me with bliss. He cherishes me, like the father and the mother love their child. ||1|| I cannot survive without Him, even for an instant; I shall never forget Him. Says Nanak, joining the Society of the Saints, I am enraptured, lovingly attuned to my Lord. ||2||25||48|| At this stage one is blessed with Dhiyaan (focus) on Naam. One feels blissful and appreciated the life that has been given to them; everything around you feels Hariya (rejuvenated). This is because the passions and desires have been identified and through this realisation and with the Shastar (weapon) of the Guru's Shabad, ones Naam Khanda would have become very sharp, in order to fight ones passions and desires. hau gosweI dw pihlvwnVw ] mY gur imil auc dumwlVw ] sB hoeI iCMJ iekTIAw dXu bYTw vyKY Awip jIau ]17] vwq vjin tMmk ByrIAw ] ml lQy lYdy PyrIAw ] inhqy pMij juAwn mY gur QwpI idqI kMif jIau ]18] I am a wrestler; I belong to the Lord of the World. I met with the Guru, and I have tied a tall, plumed turban. All have gathered to watch the wrestling match, and the Merciful Lord Himself is seated to behold it. ||17|| The bugles play and the drums beat. The wrestlers enter the arena and circle around. I have thrown the five challengers to the ground, and the Guru has patted me on the back. ||18|| A fight with the lower self One feels that the temptations and passions of the mind have been paralysed and defeated through the Guru's-Shabad. This is where the seeker enjoys the higher planes of spirituality and feels the ecstasy of Naam. But even at this stage, one will not abandon bentiya (prayers) to Guru Sahib as the mind has not been fully conquered and often awakes to tempt the seeker of its previous bad habits. At times the seeker will accept defeat and give in to their mind, but only through Ardaas and sincere prayers can one overcome this and enjoy the higher states of Simran again. The temptations of the mind are weakened but not completely destroyed. At this stage one is blessed with more Dhiyaan (focus) on Naam and when one does Ardaas it is always Parvaan (accepted) because Ardaas is constantly done with Dhiyaan. Only with Dhiyaan on Naam can ego be eradicated which in return makes the seeker feel humble towards Guru Sahib. Guru Sahib only accepts those prayers which are done through Gareebee (humility). haumY nwvY nwil ivroDu hY duie n vsih iek Twie ] Ego is opposed to the Name of the Lord; the two do not dwell in the same place. When one feels that their mind is taking control and they are losing the battle within their mind, a heart felt ardaas with full devotion to Guru Sahib, will help the seeker to overcome their troublesome mind. Stage 4 of Ardaas As ones Dhiyaan increases on Naam their Rang (love) increases this is because the heart-lotus flower within, which was once locked-up in its self, now flourishes and when the arrows of Naam hit it, the love forever more continues to grow. pRBu hoie ik®pwlu kmlu prgwsy sdw sdw hir iDAweIAY ]1] rhwau ] As God shows His Mercy, the lotus of my heart blossoms, and forever and ever, I meditate on the Lord. ||1||Pause|| At this stage ones desires are destroyed and they have only one thing on their mind: mn isau jUiJ mrY pRBu pwey mnsw mnih smwey ] One who dies fighting against his own stubborn mind finds God, and the desires of the mind are quieted. At this stage one seeks only for Darshan (meeting) with Waheguru Jee and ones mind is transformed and shaped into a beautiful jewel. Just as a Potter makes beautiful pottery out of clay, so is the mind transformed into a jewel with the Guru's- Shabad. At this stage one is filled with Sehaj (peace) and longs to see the Darshan of Waheguru, even if it is just for a second. It is important to say here that all desires, hopes, passions of the mind are all abolished and ones mind is filled with Sehaj (peace). The seeker no longer asks for worldly things and instead prays that: ey mn myry bwvly hir rsu ciK swdu pwie ] O my insane mind, drink in the sublime essence of the Lord, and savour its taste. An ris lwgw qUM iPrih ibrQw jnmu gvwie ]1] rhwau ] Attached to other pleasures, you wander around, and your life wastes away uselessly. ||1||Pause|| It is important to realise that even at this stage ego isn't totally eradicated. Ego is only completely eradicated when the seeker becomes one with Waheguru.

  3. Ardaas part 2 As one advances spiritually ones Ardaas will change. From asking for worldly things, whilst seeking spiritual uplift arises a new wave of observing the world. One starts to see very little in worldly things, and starts to understand how the world is a drowning ocean, which they wish to be saved from. This then causes the soul to make the following prayer; mo kau qwir ly rwmw qwir ly ] Carry me across, O Lord, carry me across. mY Ajwnu jnu qirby n jwnau bwp bITulw bwh dy ]1] rhwau ] I am ignorant, and I do not know how to swim. O my Beloved Father, please give me Your arm. ||1||Pause|| Just as a child grows older and becomes bored of toys, sweets and other things that they were attached to. In the same way the seeker starts to loose their desires and pleasures which once held them back from meeting Waheguru Jee. This is when the struggle begins. The two sides When one starts doing Ardaas like the above they will have a struggle between the two sides of their mind. One side will be luring you into these desires and pleasures whilst the other side would be in agony when under-going such actions. The "good" side will feel that most of the time it has lost when the "bad" side has won. Many have fallen in this struggle between doing good or bad actions. Daas gets a lot of e-mails from Gursikhs, asking questions about how to tackle Kaami (lustful) thoughts or dreams. Daas can see that they are at the stage where they feel defeated from the bad side. One must realise that they must keep doing Ardaas to Guru Sahib who will bless the seeker with guidance on how to avoid having such lustful thoughts or dreams. Realisation is the biggest key at this stage. Kwq pIq Kylq hsq Brmy jnm Anyk ] Eating, drinking, playing and laughing, I have wandered through countless incarnations. Bvjl qy kwFhu pRBU nwnk qyrI tyk ]1] Please, God, lift me up and out of the terrifying world-ocean. Nanak seeks Your Support. ||1|| At this stage one realises the above and seeks guidance from waheguru jee. Learning from mistakes At this stage one will continue to make mistakes. One will seek for forgiveness from waheguru jee, every time a mistake is committed and will learn from it. This trial and error practise enables the relationship between the Guru and his Sikh to become stronger. This is when the seed of your Sikhi begins to grow, when it is watered, fertilized, and nurtured properly then it will begin to flourish. One will learn from their mistakes, move on and make the effort not to make the same mistakes again. One important quality to have at this stage is control, not to let negative thoughts arise in your mind. When one commits a mistake one will repent, but what good is repenting if you are not going to make the effort to move on and not to commit the same mistake again. Keeping negative thoughts in your heart will hinder your progress on Naam Abhiyaas, as your focus is not on Naam, but the negative action you have performed. It is all to do with trial and error, experiencing, and exploring new ways to overcome the "bad" side which gives into temptation. Mental ailment Only through deep prayer can we free ourselves of mental illnesses which pollute our mind. Once we obtain the understanding that we are not in control of our mind, we realise that the only way to clean our mind is with naam simran. koit krn dIjih pRB pRIqm hir gux suxIAih AibnwsI rwm ] Please bless me, O Beloved God, with millions of ears, with which I may hear the Glorious Praises of the Imperishable Lord. suix suix iehu mnu inrmlu hovY ktIAY kwl kI PwsI rwm ] Listening, listening to these, this mind becomes spotless and pure, and the noose of Death is cut. When we suffer from a physical illness such as a fever or a headache, we immediately try to cure our illnesses with medicine. However, when it comes to curing the ailments of the mind then generally we do not care to put much effort into overcoming the problem. Only through ailments of the mind do we have ailments of the body. For example an alcoholic may have an addiction to alcohol but even though they might have the knowledge to know the negative effects of drinking alcohol, they continue to drink which causes ailments to the body. At this stage it is important to clean the mind through Gurmat Naam by taking Amrit and receiving Naam from the Panj Piyare. Only after receiving Naam can one start on this Gurmat Shabad – Surat da Marg (single-minded devotional repetition of Naam) to clean the ailments of the mind. The spiritual seeker should humbly pray: kwnVw mhlw 5 ] kuicl kTor kpt kwmI ] ijau jwnih iqau qwir suAwmI ]1] rhwau ] qU smrQu srin jogu qU rwKih ApnI kl Dwir ]1] jwp qwp nym suic sMjm nwhI ien ibDy Cutkwr ] grq Gor AMD qy kwFhu pRB nwnk ndir inhwir ]2]8]19] Kaanraa, Fifth Mehla: I am filthy, hard-hearted, deceitful and obsessed with sexual desire. Please carry me across, as You wish, O my Lord and Master. ||1||Pause|| You are All-powerful and Potent to grant Sanctuary. Exerting Your Power, You protect us. ||1|| Chanting and deep meditation, penance and austere self-discipline, fasting and purification - salvation does not come by any of these means. Please lift me up and out of this deep, dark ditch; O God, please bless Nanak with Your Glance of Grace. ||2||8||19|| Most of us are currently at this stage however we must stay focused on our goal, which is to become one with Waheguru Jee and to be saved from this terrifying world ocean. Next week Daas will be posting an article on how the Ardaas changes as one develops more spiritually. These will be stages 3 and 4 of Ardaas. 5. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ardaas part 1/5 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Waheguru ji ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh Ardaas is a prayer, a request which is made in front of Guru Granth Sahib jee, the Pooran Jot. This prayer can be so powerful, and if done with the correct intentions and right attributes then this prayer will reach Sach Khand (where Waheguru Jee resides) and prayers or requests will be answered by Waheguru Jee Himself. brQI kdy n hoveI jn kI Ardwis ] The prayer of the Lord's humble servant is never offered in vain. If the ardaas is to be fulfilled, it must be ensured that one is not requesting an order to Waheguru jee and one must perform the ardas with humility. Most people do Ardaas for wordly things and demand certain things from Waheguru Jee, their prayers remained unanswered. If only they realised that: nwnk hukmu n cleI nwil Ksm clY Ardwis ]22] O Nanak, no one can issue commands to the Lord Master; let us offer prayers instead. ||22|| This is a personal discussion, where the seeker has the opportunity to speak to Waheguru Jee with full faith. The seeker may choose to talk about the following: Progression in spiritual Jeevan. Material or physical needs. To seek help from Waheguru in times of need, in sickness or pain. To thank him for anything He may have given. That we submit to his will, and accept any thing that may happen, whether it is happiness or pain. For the well being and comfort of others. Two types of prayer One form of Ardaas is in the form of Sangat where one Gursikh would do Ardaas for the whole of the sangat thanking Guru Sahib for giving them an opportunity to be in Sangat or for the well being of the Khalsa Panth. Daas has come across a few Gursikhs who prefer not to recite the full panthic Ardaas, they believe it is not heart-felt. Daas can say that the panthic Ardaas has a lot of benefits, because one remembers; All the 10 Gurus and Shabad-Guru The Gursikhs, Panj Piyare, all the past Gursikhs who have done Naam Kamai and have lived a Gursikhi Jeevan. All Shaheeds that have died for the Khalsa Panth, all the children, Bibiya(n), Bezurags, who gave their lives for us and most important of all remember that they kept their Kesh intact as long as they had breath in their astral body. We remember all Gurdwaras, Takhats and places of Gurus history in panthic Ardaas. We do ardaas that the whole Khalsa Panth can Jap Waheguru mantra. We do ardaas that Gursikhs be blessed with presents of Sikhi, Kesh, Rehit, Bibek budhi. We do Ardaas that we have our minds lowered whilst we have our intellect of Gurmat higher. We do Ardaas that we get to do Samaal of Gurdwaras. This type of Ardaas can be as long as one wishes but one should only talk about panthic things in this Ardaas and that the Sangat be blessed, forgetting ones own requirements. The other type of Ardaas is the personal Ardaas. In this Ardaas one is not required to add the Panthic Ardaas and can be done in terms of what ones soul desires. When we learn how to do Ardaas properly the response will be instantaneous. Daas has realised that when Daas does Ardaas, it sometimes takes a long time for it to be answered or at other times it may be answered straight away, but never has Daas felt that the Ardaas was un-answered. qIny qwp invwrxhwrw duK hMqw suK rwis ] The Lord is the One who removes the three fevers; He is the Destroyer of pain, the warehouse of peace. qw kau ibGnu n koaU lwgY jw kI pRB AwgY Ardwis ]1] No obstacles block the path of one who prays before God. ||1|| One must do ardaas with humility and full faith in Waheguru jee, if the ardaas is to be answered. The first stage of Ardaas Most of us are at this stage, where we ask for worldly things. Although it is not a sin to ask for worldly or materialistic objects we still need to realise that: ivxu quDu horu ij mMgxw isir duKw kY duK ] To ask for any other than You, Lord, is the most miserable of miseries. dyih nwmu sMqoKIAw auqrY mn kI BuK ] Please bless me with Your Name, and make me content; may the hunger of my mind be satisfied. If one was to stand up with folded hands and closed eyes but did not practise Naam, understand the glory of Naam, and did not implement naam into their jeevan. Then if they were to ask for Naam, whilst craving for worldly comforts and materialistic things, then their Ardaas would remain unfulfilled and un-answered. Doing such an act will just lead to hypocrisy. One needs to practise Naam, remove the filth of ego, and then do Ardaas. In this way one’s Ardaas will be parvaan (accepted) because Naam is the main focus. Then it is not a sin to ask for worldly comforts, health, and happiness. Bhagat Dana has asked for many things: DMnw ] Dhannaa: gopwl qyrw Awrqw ] O Lord of the world, this is Your lamp-lit worship service. jo jn qumrI Bgiq krMqy iqn ky kwj svwrqw ]1] rhwau ] You are the Arranger of the affairs of those humble beings who perform Your devotional worship service. ||1||Pause|| dwil sIDw mwgau GIau ] Lentils, flour and ghee - these things, I beg of You. hmrw KusI krY inq jIau ] My mind shall ever be pleased. pn@IAw Cwdnu nIkw ] Anwju mgau sq sI kw ]1] Shoes, fine clothes, and grain of seven kinds - I beg of You. ||1|| gaU BYs mgau lwvyrI ] A milk cow, and a water buffalo, I beg of You, iek qwjin qurI cMgyrI ] and a fine Turkestani horse. Gr kI gIhin cMgI ] A good wife to care for my home jnu DMnw lyvY mMgI ]2]4] - Your humble servant Dhanna begs for these things, Lord. ||2||4|| In the above Shabad Bhagat Dana first speaks about doing devotional worship then Bhagat Jee talks about the things he needs. This is an exellent example of a devotee who first makes Naam practise their core focus whilst asking for the basics of house-holder. One will see that when they learn how to do Ardaas in the correct manner and advance in their spirituality, then they will realise there is not much in these worldly-materialistic comforts. Daas will talk about this in next week’s article which will be “Ardaas part 2/5.” Waheguru ji ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh

  7. Good and Bad Spirits Waheguru ji ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh In this world many souls come and go. Some of these souls are good whilst most souls become filthy and polluted with the influence of Maya and by the mortal doing bad deeds. When these souls die they remain on this world and have to suffer for their misdeeds by becoming ghosts. There are even some spirits who get left on this world who did bad deeds but did some good deeds. These good souls are found in Gurdwaras, Sangat, with Abhiyaasi Gursikhs as they them selves want to do Naam Abhiyaas so they can be free from transmigration. There is a lot of suffering in this Joon (life form). Yes, even becoming a ghost is a life form in which mortals who have done bad deeds have to suffer in. Daas has had heard quite a few Gursikhs who have been troubled with Ghosts, Daas himself has had trouble with ghosts and only through Guru Sahib can one over come these distractions to our Naam Bhagtee. keI koit BUq pRyq sUkr imRgwc ] Many millions are the evil nature-spirits, ghosts, pigs and tigers. When doing Naam Abhiyaas on our own or Sangat we only see the sangat around us or when on our own we think we are on our own. When we are blessed with Dib Drishtee (the power to see things beyond what normal mortals can see, also known as the third or inner-eye) we can see Ghosts, Shaheed Gursikhs, demons, Hells, future, past and know what others are thinking. Some Gursikhs also know what has happened in their past lives but all this is useless if Naam is forgotten. Going back to the main topic, when we’re blessed with this power we will realise that there are in fact many great souls with us when we do Simran Abhiyaas of Gur-Shabad. Never think you are alone when doing Abhiyaas because great souls visit you to watch you or join in Abhiyaas with you. Also one thing to note is that when there is Shabad-Suratee i.e. the concentration joins with Naam then many great Demi Gods or Goddesses along with great souls come to watch such an event as they eager them selves to receive Guru’s Shabad so they may become Mukat, and free from their duties given by Waheguru jee Himself. suir nr muin jn AMimRqu Kojdy su AMimRqu gur qy pwieAw ] The angelic beings and the silent sages search for the Ambrosial Nectar; this Amrit is obtained from the Guru. pwieAw AMimRqu guir ik®pw kInI scw min vswieAw ] This Amrit is obtained, when the Guru grants His Grace; He enshrines the True Lord within the mind. The good spirits who do Tapasiya (meditation) stay in Gurdwaras or places where they find peace and closeness to Waheguru Jee as they know this is where they will be blessed and may get free from transmigration. They stay in Gurdwaras for many years doing Bhagtee and finally get a chance when they are blessed with a Manukha Jeevan. Usually they become mothers of great Abhiyaasi souls. The only reason why Abhiyaasi Gursikhs are decreasing is because the mothers of those sons/daughters don’t inspire their off springs to Jap Naam. The mothers are corrupted with the pollution of Maya and want to see their sons/daughters who have a big name in the world and have many riches, houses and are happy in life. Rare are those mothers who them selves do Naam Bhagtee and inspire their off springs to do Naam Bhagtee. In this world such mothers have been mothers like the mothers of the Bhagats referred in Gurbani. ijn hir ihrdY nwmu n bisE iqn mwq kIjY hir bWJw ] The Lord's Name does not abide within their hearts - their mothers should have been sterile. iqn suM\I dyh iPrih ibnu nwvY Eie Kip Kip muey krWJw ]1] These bodies wander around, forlorn and abandoned, without the Name; their lives waste away, and they die, crying out in pain. ||1|| In SadhSangat when there is Katha, Keertan, Veechar of GurShabad going on there is a lot of good souls there also. Daas can say that as much sangat there is of normal mortals and Gursikhs there is probably the same amount of souls which come to listen to Gurbani Veechaar. This is where they find their Triptee (peace). Bad souls These souls find there triptee (fulfilment) in places they have spent when they were humans. Usually these are homes or Kaami places such as brothels. AMiq kwil jo mMdr ismrY AYsI icMqw mih jy mrY ] At the very last moment, one who thinks of mansions, and dies in such thoughts, pRyq join vil vil AauqrY ]4] shall be reincarnated over and over again as a goblin. ||4|| If all our lives we have been pondering on our homes and have forgotten the Name of the Lord, then we will have to suffer after this life because at the time of death the thoughts were not of Waheguru but instead they were of the home one stayed in. In this way one is punished for wasting the precious human life. These ghosts, goblins or spirits are suffering endlessly, they are cold, and have no where to turn to and regret wasting there human life. Why do Gursikhs see/experience ghosts? A number of Gursikhs have spoken to Daas about their experiences with ghosts. There are number of reasons why a Gursikh (who ghosts are scared of) may experience spirits haunting them, such as; The ghost may want muktee and might follow the Gursikh around until the Gursikh commits a Kurehit (cardinal sin), this is the only opportunity the ghost has to enter the Sukhman Sareer (body) of the Gursikh. But no way can the ghost get muktee like this. The ghost then controls the person’s body and the person may appear to be insane or can’t function adequately. Daas has heard of many times this has happened and Gursikhs have come to save that Kurehitee Bemukh. This is why saving your self from the 4 – Bujjer Kurehits is essential. Sometimes when we miss Keertan Sohila we are punished for being lax or showing apathy towards Guru Sahib. We have terrible dreams and ghosts can come to visit us and torment us. Daas has heard this happen to quite a few Gursikhs. At night it is very easy for these forces to get you because Surtee on Naam, for most of us, is very low and only when Keertan Sohila is read can keep these forces at bay. It is very important to this Paath every time one goes to sleep. In this time of Kaljug, Kaljug doesn’t want any Bhagtee being performed. Therefore because of this evil time ghosts come to haunt Gursikhs so they stop Gursikhs from doing Naam Bhagtee. Daas has had experience of this where a ghost tried to forcefully stop Daas’s Naam repetition whilst sleeping. Only with intense Naam Japna can one scare away these forces. There can be many other reasons why one is visited by these evil forces but if one stays loyal to Shabad-Guru then Guru Sahib will find a way out for the Gursikh. When we experience these evil forces against us we shouldn’t be scared. We should Jap Naam and make intense Naam Kamai so that: ijn inrBau ijn hir inrBau iDAwieAw jI iqn kw Bau sBu gvwsI ] Those who meditate on the Fearless One, on the Fearless Lord-all their fears are dispelled. In this way we will not be scared of anything. We will have the qualities of Waheguru Jee and be fearless. If such a situation arises one should seek guidance from Shabad- Guru, do ardaas, and receive Hukam off Guru Granth Sahib. One can also seek guidance from Gurmukhs but all they will tell you is that you must have faith with Guru Sahib. If anyone has any problems with evil spirits or anything related then please e-mail Daas. It would be good if Daas could share personal experiences and find ways to help you and Gursikhs on the mailing list would also benefit. Next week Daas will post part one out of 6 of Ardaas. 11. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Gift of Naam -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Daas will be talking about the gifts one receives when taking Amrit. In particular daas will talk about Naam Dee Daat (gift of naam) one receives when one has took Guru Dasmesh’s Khundeh kee paul. The seeker before receiving Naam Daas was asked if there was any use in Naam Japna before one Shaks Amrit. And also will it have any affect if one hasn’t even received Naam yet. It is very important for the seeker of Naam to lead a good life doing good deeds before taking Amrit and receiving Naam. In Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh’s era Gursikhs weren’t allowed into an Amrit Sinchaar to take Amrit if they hadn’t sat through a whole Akhand Paath from ‘aad’ to ‘ant’ (start to finish). It is very important for the seeker to start Naam Japna. Even though one hasn’t received Naam one will still get some benefit from Naam Japna. But the truth is only after receiving Naam does one realise what this Naam Abhiyaas Da Marg (path of Naam Abhiyaas) is all about, although some poor souls don’t even realise after this. One needs to clean their mind before taking Amrit if one wants to receive full blessings whilst taking Amrit. One thing that put sense to daas was something that Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh said in Gurmat Bibek towards the end of the book. Below is the translation of what Bhai Sahib: Translation------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Everything in the Amrit Sinchaar is a teaching, a lesson in which the candidate of Amrit receives in the Hirdaa (heart). At that time one should receive full blessings of these teachings, if one doesn’t realise these instructions, or the teachings don’t reach the heart then they are Abhagay (ones with very bad fates). They are deficient in there karama to receive full blessings. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The above translation is very roughly been translated with a lot of inspiration missing. The above tells us clearly to be candidates of Amrit we must do some Naam Bhagti before or else we will not receive full blessings from Guru Sahib. Please click here to read what one should do for preparation of taking Amrit. When does one receive Naam? The only time we can receive the blessing of Naam is through Guru Sahib. This is done through the Panj Piyare at Amrit Sinchaars. The Panj Piyare become the form of the Guru as Sargun Saroop and bless the Abhilakhee (candidate) with Amrit and Naam. Over the last century or so there has been a lot of deficiency in Amrit Sinchaars and therefore most candidates don’t receive this Naam properly or don’t receive it at all. The main point is some Amrit Sinchaars the Panj Piyare tell the seekers to do Mool Mantar da Paath and that’s it, they don’t tell them that the rest of their lives they must be doing Naam Bhagtee. Some Panj Piyare just say “Waheguru is the Gurmantar.” Bhai Gurdaas Jee has told us this in his Vara(n) this isn’t something new. All know what the Guru’s mantar is but for that mantar to be driR inside you is something different. DriR means implanted and to stay their permanently. But it is a shame that most (not all) Amrit Sinchaars have stopped following these Seenaa – Baseena Rehits passed down from Gursikh to Gursikh. guir pUrY hir nwmu idRVwieAw hir Bgqw Aqutu BMfwru ]1] The Perfect Guru has implanted the Name of the Lord into the Lord's devotees; it is an Inexhaustible Treasure. ||1|| Even the Bhats where blessed with Naam from Guru Sahib: sqguir dXwil hir nwmu idRV@wXw iqsu pRswid vis pMc kry ] The Merciful True Guru has implanted the Lord's Name within me, and by His Grace, I have overpowered the five thieves. Daas even believes Bhagat Kabeer Jee was blessed with Naam DriR: kbIr swcw siqguru mY imilAw sbdu ju bwihAw eyku ] Kabeer, the True Guru has met me; He aimed the Arrow of the Shabad at me. lwgq hI Buie imil gieAw pirAw klyjy Cyku ]157] As soon as it struck me, I fell to the ground with a hole in my heart. ||157|| From the above Shabad we can see that Sacha, SatGur can only be Dhan Guru Nanak Dev Jee. Bhagat jee has revealed to us that he had met such a Guru and received Naam off Him. In this way if we want our Jeevan Safal (fruitful) we must receive Naam from Satguru as this is above all gifts, this is the treasure which is inexhaustible, there is no ant (end) to it. Receiving Naam When one goes to an Amrit Sinchaar ones intention should not be to receive, they should be to give. To receive a jewel such as a Naam has no keemat (price) but all Guru Sahib asks you give your Dhan, Man, Than (mind, body and soul) to him and in exchange one is blessed with Amrit and Naam dee daat. mnu qnu Dnu AwgY rwiKAw isru vyicAw gur AwgY jwie ] They place mind, body and wealth in offering before the Guru, and sell their heads to Him. Daas will not go into too much detail on how one is blessed with Naam DriR in the Amrit Sinchaar as this something that should remain in the Amrit Sinchaar and for the seeker to experience. Daas can only give an example of it. When receiving Naam it is like planting a seed inside the body. Our body is the field in which the seed will grow. After the seed has been planted you need to consider whose going to look after the seed? If its going to be watered? The below Shabad is beautiful in describing this. mnu hwlI ikrswxI krxI srmu pwxI qnu Kyqu ] Make your mind the farmer, good deeds the farm, modesty the water, and your body the field. Good deeds will be the farm inside our bodies and we musn’t even let ourselves do one bad deed as it will be accounted for. The mind (farmer) will look after the seed by putting Dhiyaan (focus) on Naam as much as it can, and Gareebee (modesty) will be the water which nourishes the seed in order for it to grow. In this way the seed will be looked after properly. What about scavengers? In a farm there are scavengers such as crows or even people who come to steal or distort the crops and seeds. In the body these scavengers are none other than the five thieves (kaam, krod, lobh, moh, hankaar). How will we get rid of these pests who steal and distort our crops? nwmu bIju sMqoKu suhwgw rKu grIbI vysu ] Let the Lord's Name be the seed, contentment the plow, and your humble dress the fence. Gareebee (humility) is needed as a fence against these thieves. This is mainly rehit only if done properly. If we keep rehit which has brought us more ego then there is a hole in the fence, if we keep rehit with nimerta remembering that we keep this rehit for Guru Sahib because it is pleasing to Him then we will have a good fence to keep away the scavengers who take the crops. If all goes well then this is what happens: Bwau krm kir jMmsI sy Gr BwgT dyKu ]1] Doing deeds of love, the seed shall sprout, and you shall see your home flourish. ||1|| You shall see your own home (body) flourish! 13. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Listening to Naam - Final Stages ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This article continues from previous one and talks about the final stages of the Naam practiser. Stage 3 This stage is where one gets everything very quickly this is where one can do mental Simran without the lips moving. In this stage when one breathes in they might mentally be saying ‘Wahe’ in their minds and when breathing out they say ‘Guru.’ In the preliminary stage this would be a technique given by the Panj Piyare when taking Amrit but one wouldn’t have the mental ability to Jap Naam like this and one wouldn’t feel the joys and bliss as one does in this stage. This stage can be described as this example. If the Naam practiser who has reached this stage was standing in train station and a train was coming full speed, only Naam would be audible and not the train. This is how powerful the mind becomes and the ability to focus on Naam increases a large amount. A normal person or a Gursikh in the preliminary stages would hear nothing but the train. The focus would be diverted. In this stage one would feel very beiraagi (detached). All one would want is the blessing of the vision of His beloved and would cut off his head to such a Being that would let him meet his beloved. iqsu dis ipAwry isru DrI auqwry iek BorI drsnu dIjY ] Whoever leads me to my Beloved - I would cut off my head and offer it to him, even if I were granted the Blessed Vision of His Darshan for just an instant. The above tukh is what Daas is talking about. One gets to such a state of mind that one can’t live without Naam even for a second. Even if one forgets Naam for one second it feels like the mind has been blackened with filth and feels like years have gone by not seconds. One is very thirsty for vision of Waheguru here and would do anything to attain it. In this stage one starts to hear weird noises and vision many things. One will hear and experience many things before one opens their Dasam Duaar. From reading Jail Chitiyan (Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh) we can see Bhai Sahib got straight to his Dasam Duaar but before this he saw his own soul, Bhai Sahib just wanted Darshan of Akaal Purakh and obtained it quickly. Other Rangle Sajans (imbued friends) of this era started experiencing other things. One story daas remembers is when a Gursikh was doing Abhiyaas and started hearing dogs barking, he got very scared but Bhai Sahib told him to carry on Abhiyaas as this stage he could see the entire universe and could be in the minds of any creature or living being spontaneously. At this stage Guru Sahib has shown some Gursikhs some very scary scenes. Daas remembers ‘In Search of True Guru,’ Bhai Rama Singh states he saw hell and jamdoots. Many Gursikhs have narrated their experiences and have said that when one gets to this stage Guru Sahib shows the Gursikh hells, Jamdoots and many other frightful things. This is so the Gursikh doesn’t hold anything back now and just goes for Akaal Purakh’s Darshan so they don’t have to back and forth into transmigration again. The final stage This is when one completes the life journey. Here one meets His Beloved. The one who he was searching and yearning for so many years and lifetimes and in full glory meets Him and feels like this: hm sir dInu dieAwlu n qum sir Ab pqIAwru ikAw kIjY ] There is none as forlorn as I am, and none as Compassionate as You; what need is there to test us now? bcnI qor mor mnu mwnY jn kau pUrnu dIjY ]1] May my mind surrender to Your Word; please, bless Your humble servant with this perfection. ||1|| hau bil bil jwau rmeIAw kwrny ] I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to the Lord. kwrn kvn Abol ] rhwau ] O Lord, why are You silent? ||Pause|| bhuq jnm ibCury Qy mwDau iehu jnmu qum@wry lyKy ] For so many incarnations, I have been separated from You, Lord; I dedicate this life to You. kih rivdws Aws lig jIvau icr BieE drsnu dyKy ]2]1] Says Ravi Daas: placing my hopes in You, I live; it is so long since I have gazed upon the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. ||2||1|| One attains the highest Naam Avustha and drinks the Amrit necter from within. In the preliminary stages when one felt some Ras around the nabhi area, one felt his Nabhi flourish when doing Abhiyaas but now when Akaal Purakh is met one drinks Amrit from the highest chakra the tenth hidden gate and every time one breaths and says Waheguru one drinks the Amrit from within. This is called Sehaj Avustha. The final stage one reaches. It is easy to spot Gursikhs who drink this Amrit. Two things that stand out about them is their Gareebi (humility) and the second is the lalee on their faces. Their faces are red and radiant. AMimRqu vrKY Anhd bwxI ] The Ambrosial Nectar, the Unstruck Melody of Gurbani rains down continually; It is very hard to forget Waheguru jee’s name in this state of mind. Ones mind is face to face with Waheguru and sees Waheguru in full glory. One is always in Sehaj Avustha and one has to keep reminding oneself to do daily chores, go to work, look after family because all that resides in ones mind now is Naam. For someone in the first stage it is hard to put Dhiyaan on Naam but for some one in this stage it is hard to take them off Dhiyaan! Daas hasn’t spoken much in this article because most of it is just knowledge that Naam Raseeiya Gurmukhs have passed on to Daas or what Daas has read in books. In reality this stage can’t be described in mere words it is like Gungeh Dee Mityayee (the sweets of a death person). If you asked a Gungah how the sweets tasted, he cannot reply, he can just smile. In this same way this stage cannot be described it must be experienced. The tenth gate In our body we have 9 openings. These are known as gates in Gurbani. These are: 1. left eye 2. right eye 3. left nostril 4. right nostril 5. left ear 6. right ear 7. mouth 8. opening at the lower end of the alimentary canal 9. opening at the front below the bladder These are all features or openings any human being has. But what remains a secret is the tenth gate. This tenth gate can only be opened through meditation. Yogis, Rishis, Munis have all opened this gate but all they have done is held their breaths there to increase their lives. For Gursikhs it is different. Once a Gursikh gets to Sehaj Avutha and open their Dasam Duaar they see Akaal Purakh their and drink Amrit their. This is something the Yogis etc couldn’t do because they didn’t practise Naam. dsvY duAwir kuMcI jb dIjY ] When the key is inserted in the Tenth Gate, qau dieAwl ko drsnu kIjY ]24][/size] then the Blessed Vision of the Merciful Lord's Darshan is seen. ||24|| Daas would like to end this article by saying opening of the Dasam Duaar can only be done through the grace of Satguru. We must have full faith in Guru Granth Sahib. There are a lot of people out there such as NaamDharis, RadhaSwaamis, Satnam Cult, Nirakhrees who do meditation as well. They all claim to have opened their Dasam Duaars and have seen Wahegurus Darshan. This is pure nonsense. These cults don’t have a true Guru and with out a true Guru Waheguru’s name isn’t found and one remains empty like an empty vessel. These cults only manipulate people for their wealth. 15. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Listening to Naam ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Waheguru ji ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh In this article Daas will talk about the 4 stages one attains as they are practising Naam. These stages come easily to those who practise Naam daily and live under the will of Guru Sahib. To start off Daas will talk about the first stage of Naam practising. Daas will post this article in 2 parts. This article will have the first 2 stages. The second article will talk about the final stages. Stage one In this stage one begins to understand that one is here to do Naam Japna. Although Maya and attachments are still part of ones life here they still become a regular practiser of Naam Japna. In these early stages when one practises Naam one can only concentrate their minds on Naam for the amount they practise it. In this early stage one is still learning how to practise Naam in different ways. This is usually someone who hasn’t taken Amrit. In this stage of Simran one uses different techniques to concentrate their minds on so it becomes more pure. Some concentrate on photos of Guru Sahib for a very long time, some concentrate their minds on pictures in their minds, but after one takes Amrit and Guru Sahib blesses that person with Amrit and Naam then they realise through Guru Sahib that only through concentrating on GurShabad can ones mind become pure. ieh cwl inrwlI gurmuKI gur dIiKAw suix mnu iBMny ]25] This is the unique and distinct life-style of the Gurmukhs: listening to the Guru's Teachings, their minds blossom forth. ||25|| During the Amrit Sinchaar one should feel bliss and the spirits should soar very highly into higher stages of Naam. Once the Panj Piyare infuse Naam inside you, you should be feeling Amrit Ras. BUT because most of us have very kuthil Karam (bad fates) and it takes along time for the fates to grow we only feel a bit of sublime taste of Naam, even this is the kamai of the Panj Piyare. In the first stage of Naam Japna concentration will be very weak. It will be frustrating and hard to concentrate on Naam. Some stay at this stage for a very long time because there frustration holds them back from getting anywhere spiritually and therefore Jap Naam not for the love of Waheguru but to get somewhere spiritually. Daas would get very frustrated sometimes. Daas use to e-mail a Gursikh and ask repeated questions on how long will it be till daas gets to the next stage, Veer Jee use to piyaar naal say “Veera, don’t worry about stages, live in the love of Waheguru and you will surely get somewhere. Naam Japna isn’t about getting a spiritual stage it is about attaining Waheguru jees love and Darshan.” Daas use to be arrogant and sometimes even jealous of other Abhiyaasi Gursikhs. Daas use to go up to a Gurmukh who has attained Sehaj (The highest and last avustha) and ask why Daas feels no Ras. He told Daas that Naam won’t dwell in the heart if the heart is Katoor (hard like a rock). He told Daas to Jap Naam in sehaj and not worry whether Ras will come or not, or whether the next stage will come. So in this early stage concentration will be weak, and progress will be painfully slow but it is nothing to stress over, rather it is a motivation that: mweI mnu myro bis nwih ] O mother, my mind is out of control. One must be vary wary of where the mind wanders. During the day one should be concentrating on Naam and watching out when the surti (focus) goes off Naam. Stage 2 At this stage one begins to feel sublime taste of Naam. One starts to chant Naam every breath and feels joy and pleasure in Naam Japna. This is when the practiser of Naam starts to enter different chakras in the body (daas will write an article in this after the next article.) To begin with the practiser will begin to enjoy sublime taste in the navel area. Ones who do Saas Griasee Simran will know what daas means here. But this is nothing to be exited about as it is still part of the preliminary stage and much progress is to be made before one can do Naam Japna every breath. At this stage of Naam Japna one will have new inspiration to Jap Naam all the time. Although there are different levels to this stage and the more we practise Naam the more we will remember Waheguru’s name. Even in this stage one tends to forget Waheguru when the influence of Maya is at its greatest. For example when the television is on one may forget Naam whilst watching it. When one gets further into this stage and the concentration increases to the heart or neck level then Naam becomes more of a mental recitation. Even if ones lips are closed Naam is still audible. At this stage one can Jap Naam every breath and is very close to meeting Waheguru. Daas hasn’t experienced this stage yet so daas wants to be careful when writing because anything passed this point will be knowledge and not experience. Daas hopes Guru Sahib does kirpa. To start off with progress on Naam would have been painfully slow, frustrating, and hard to concentrate and one will not (according to past deeds) get much spiritual experiences. But in the closing stages one will get everything very quickly. This is what daas has learned from Gursikhs. When one gets to the final levels of stage 2 then everything one desires will come true. What else could a Gursikh want at this level? ivxu quDu horu ij mMgxw isir duKw kY duK ] To ask for any other than You, Lord, is the most miserable of miseries. dyih nwmu sMqoKIAw auqrY mn kI BuK ] Please bless me with Your Name, and make me content; may the hunger of my mind be satisfied When one gets to the level where all one wants is Naam then everything will come quickly. Spirtual powers, bliss, joy, experiences everything which one couldn’t get before gets it easily in these stages. But daas must say that even in preliminary stages you may get some spiritual powers, a little bit of bliss and Guru Sahib will bless you with experiences. But all a Gursikh wants is Naam and rang (love) for waheguroo these gifts from Guru Sahib will come easily to those who practise Naam with every breath. Even now you must ask your self if you are doing Naam japna. Whilst reading this article, is Naam in your mind. If not then it shows we have a long way to go. A long wait One should not get disheartened when realising that there is a long wait for most of us to meet Waheguru or to get anywhere spiritually. We have to realise we have very good karam even knowing about Naam and the one who actually wakes up Amritvela and does Naam japna or does sangat anywhere to Jap Naam then this shows immense Kirpa and very good fates. We have to realise that we must build a good fate, most things in our life are already pre-destined but we have access to change it. The more we do good deeds, sangat, Naam Japna the better our fates will get, but best of all as soon as we meet the true Guru by taking Amrit this happens: pUrY Bwig sqguru imlY jw BwgY kw audau hoie ] By perfect good fortune, one meets the True Guru, when one's destiny is awakened. As soon as one takes Amrit they want something spiritual straight away. Daas has heard of some who have cut their and become sakats (faithless people) because they attained nothing after they took Amrit. This was their loss because Simran Abhiyaas is not about spiritual experiences, these come easily to those who are in rang (love) with waheguru and care not for little experiences. There are also some poor souls who have completely gone off the path because they have been doing Abhiyaas for such a long time and haven’t attained anything. They now have joined this Satnaam cult in which some fake Guru baba has showed them something spiritual and they join his cult. This baba tells them it is ok to cut hair and enjoy life as a manmukh and still get somewhere spiritually very fast. Daas can say this is not true at all. This cult baba is no where himself and is just manipulating people to use their money and wealth. Our Satguru is only Sri Guru Granth Sahib and only through Guru Sahib can we get anywhere in our spiritual life. ibnu Bwgw AYsw siqguru n pweIAY jy locY sBu koie ] Without good fortune, such a True Guru cannot be found, no matter how much all may yearn for Him. One should be grateful they are on this path and do ardaas that Guru Sahib keeps them on this path. To start off everything will be hard and painfully slow but as soon as ones karam are made then everything will come very fast; bliss, concentration, pooran gursikhi jeevan all this will come in time and then finally one will get ik-mik (one) with waheguru. If waheguru can have patience to meet us then why can’t we. Waheguru ji ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh ~ - ~ - ~ Next weeks article Listening to Naam - Stage 3 and 4 ~ - ~ - ~
