  1. waheguru jee ka khalsa! waheguru jee kee fateh! don't be dissappointed, i think it's a hard question to respond to. amrit? why did i personally take it. well for me it just happened...i was only 8 when i took amrit, i will be 24 this year. why i took it?? maybe just how it was meant to be, how guru sahib jee wanted it. for me, the more relevant question would be...why did i keep it? well, when you think of guru sahib jee, there is no other Guru out there like Him. the one who follows you around and asks you to remember parmathma. the one guru who loves you as his child and never judges you, even when the world seems to be against you. the guru...who so many admire...how could i ever let go...and the most amazing thing is that it's a deep down feeling that can't be described. ever moment you remember that you are wearing guru sahib jee's dastaar, his kirpan...ever second a stranger looks at you in aw, and tells you how beautiful you are...wonders who you are...makes you feel this contentment inside that no matter what happens in your life, it's going ot be okay because you belong to parmathma..and through the guru you understand that. what else do you need? who else do you need?....no one

  3. waheguru jee ka khalsa! waheguru jee kee fateh! There was a thread started a looooooong time ago about Bibi Sukhmani Kaur and the story that she wrote about her path to sikhi. Does anyone know this Bibi and if you do, could you please help me get in contact with her. We are trying to find inpirational Bibian for an upcoming project through the Guru Nanak Academy and if we could get Sukhmani Kaur to help us it would be such an advantage for us. Please message me privately if you can help. And of course ask Sukhmani Kaur for permission first. Thank You Bismaadh Kaur
  4. waheguru jee ka khalsa! waheguru jee kee fateh! innnnnnnteresting... i might have missed reading this is someone elses post but i thought that the meaning of the word "simran" should be clarified before any arguments are made. simran= remembrance of God naam=the name you can remember God in any way, you can think about God, you can repeat a gurmantar...whatever way you chose. now for naam simran when it comes to sikhs. The punjh piyaaray give you the gurumantar that bani mentions... 'Waheguru Gur Mantar Hai Jap Homay Khoyee" So the punjh piyaaray (THE GURU HIMSELF IN THEIR ROOP) give you the Gurumantar. does Guru Jee give you the gurumantar at that time because there are some ppl that might not know, or is it because it is meant to be something special for amrit dharees only. i think what some ppl dont' know and should know is that naam simran was never done in sangath before. it's just something that recently started. naam simran is meant to be an individual effort. naam simran and the gurumantar was only really known to non-amritdharees when they themself gave their head to the Guru. BEcause naam simran is done everywhere now...ppl are starting to forget the line "WAheguru Gur Mantar hai jup Homay Koyee" so for those who haven't yet taken amrit and do naam simran then you have to remember the one who gave you the gurumantar...and plan to...SOON...give your head to that Guru. We all love looking from the outside...but no one is ready to step in. I think it's GREAT that ppl are doing simran through the gurmantar that Guru Sahib Jee has given us. But we all have to try a nd make serious changes in our lives before it is fruitful (amrit dharee or not). We have to make choices in our life that will benefit the simran that we do. When it comes to kaam krodh lobh moh and hukaar...we have to stop the thought before it comes by making choices in our life that will keep those thoughts away from us. example, stop watching TV...# 1 source of kaam. dress simply...try to read bani and really understand why we are here and understand what this body really is...to get rid of attachment. Simran is for everyone, but it is only fruitful if we make everything around us simran. If we surround ourselves with those things that remind us of God. I think ppl need to start making their priority amrit. before worrying about simran being fruitful or not if your not amrit dharee...worry about dying before you get the chance to give your head to the Guru. okay i have gone way off topic...if i have offended anyone...bhul chuck maaf karna jee bismaadh kaur
  5. waheguru jee ka khalsa! waheguru jee kee fateh!! from what i've read and understand of gurbani when it comes to yoga is that when you are doing naam simran you are not meant to try and control your breathing. swaas swaas is meant to be done with your natural breathing pattern. while walking, eating (saas giraas), working...everything you do in your daily life you should be doing simran with your natural breathing. yoga is a great way to get into shape and keep flexible and fit enough to sit longer during keertans, while doing simran etc etc. and it's an excellent way to keep healthy. but i think in terms of yoga being used as a form of naam simran it doesnt' have anything to do with sikhi. bhul chuck maaf karna jee bismaadh kaur
  6. waheguru jee ka khalsa! waheguru jee kee fateh!! interesting question. but a bit more complicated than it seems. One thing we have to understand is that taking amrit is the FIRST step, just by taking amrit..it doesn't mean that you automatically become a good person...sikhi path is as sharp as a slither and as narrow as a hair "khunayo thikhee valoh nikee (anandh sahib)" Taking amrit initiates you into the khalsa panth and give you the chance to make it to such khandh. without taking amrit there is a limit to how much spirituality you can achieve through simran. just because amrit doesnt' make you a good person it doesn't mean that it isn't important. let me give you a good reason why, and it may not be the explanation that ppl want to hear, but it's something that really gets you thinking. If someone as great as the guru..GURU GOBIND SINGH JEE took amrit, eventhough He was already such a great spiritual leader and a perfect gursikh...who are we to even question the importance of amrit?? If we can accept the fact that without taking amrit we are not sikhs, and we are following our own principles then it is fine...but if you want to believe that you are a sikh then amrit is something that shoulnd't even be questioned. you shouldn't have to think about taking it or not taking it. Guru Gobind Singh JEe says "rehit piyaaray mojh ko, sikh piyaara naya" With rehit one is not a Sikh. Giving your head to the Guru, is the first thing one needs to do inorder to become a sikh. Piyaari bhen jee, you will still be a good person even if you don't take amrit, but being a good person i sn't the only thing you need to make it to such khandh...or you can say God' court. Bhul Chuck Maad Kaarnaa Jee
  7. waheguru jee ka khalsa! waheguru jee kee fateh!! Thank you for clearing that up bha jee. Very much appreciated. I am going to talk to one of my punjh piyaaray about it today as well just to understand it fully. bismaadh kaur
  8. waheguru jee ka khalsa! waheguru jee kee fateh!
  9. waheguru jee ka khalsa! waheguru jee kee fateh!! whether or not this particular story is true or not or is distorted because it's been passed from person to person really doesn't matter. These stories are reality. they DO happen. Gupti, if bani says "GURU MERAY SUNGH SADHA HAI NALAY" then who are we to be skeptical that these types of stories are fake? It is our own insercurities, it's our own lack of faith in the Guru...which lead us to believe that Guru Sahib Jee does not have this type of power. There have been so many situations where you've almost got hit by a car, or you are driving and miss an accident my milli's of a second. There is a Gursikh bhen jee, who was hit by a car...and the whole car was gone the only part that wasn't smased into was where she was sitting. When she was telling me, she was like Sandeep Kaur if you saw the car, you would not beleive that I am living today. She was on her way to gathka practise. We all need tos tart having more faith in Guru Sahib Jee... Bhul Chuck Maaf Karnaa Jee Sandeep Kaur
  10. waheguru jee ka khalsa! waheguru jee kee fateh! sangath jee, I had a question that has been running through my head for a long time now and I am hoping that someone from the sangath can help me. What does it take to be in the punjh piyaaray? are there any type of qualifications sort of thing? Can someone who has asked to be in the punjh?? could anyone please answer ASAP... bhul chuck maaf karnaa jee Sandeep Kaur
  11. waheguru jee ka khalsa! waheguru jee kee fateh!! i would like to say something... that whole gene thing...maybe i'm just stupid. but these scientists i don't trust them... BUT, there was something interesting that someone once said. In this human life alone there are many joons...and some ppl believe that even homosexuality is a type of joon. I know it may seem degrading and all, but just an opinion that I wanted to bring forth. bhul chuck maaf sandeep kaur
  12. waheguru jee ka khalsa! waheguru jee kee fateh!! veer jee, I read the shabadh and I didn't see where you got the feeling that Guru Jee was saying that killing plants is the same as killing a being made of flesh. Could you please explain it to me...?? Guru Sahib Jee in that shabadh says that "Corn, sugar cane and cotton are produced from water. The three worlds came from water." water is something that keeps reclycling. Water never ends, so I do not see why it would be wrong to eat plants, and therefore make it okay to eat meat. I think we need to look deeper into that shabadh before making assumptions on the meaning. English translations dont' accurately describe what the Guru is saying because the vocabulary is limited. Bhul chuck maaf karnaa jee Sandeep Kaur
  13. waheguru jee ka khalsa! waheguru jee kee fateh!! what I mean is that yes we have God in us and all around us. But, really we came from God...right?? We aren't different from God, but through our lifetimes we have grown further and further from our source, God. In bani is says that we have to become One with God, merge into God...I've always read that and took it as we were once already there, and now our purpose to go back again and be One again. We are FAR from God. With simran we wil realise that nothing around us, WE ourselves can not exist without God. bhul chuck maaf karnaa jee Sandeep Kaur
