  1. It is a simple fact that dodra programs are not allowed to be done in Gurdwaras unless the committee is dodra friendly. GurFateh
  2. is it wrong to have kaam for your spouse? Gurfateh Ji
  3. Everyone please try to make it if you can! Gurfateh Ji
  4. nice posts everyone. becoming a Sikh is not an overnight thing its all about learning new things. and taking amrit does not make one a Sikh, its maintaining the rehit and continue learning. if we make a small mistake then we do ardaas and we are forgiven. Sikhism is not like the Taliban. you are not penalized for making an small honest mistake. if you do something major, like commiting one of the 4 khuriets then that is different. even the panj pyarays told us that we would have to come before them if we commited one of the 4 khuriets. so thats what I go with. and if you do something because you didn't know any better then that is also ok as long as you learn from your mistake. this is what i got out of the amrit sanchar. we are not born Sikhs, you have to learn from your mistakes to be one. thats what Sikh means. just my two cents. bul chuk maaf Gurfateh Ji
  5. What do to when washing your hair? Gurfateh Ji
  6. Nice posts everyone, I will try to wear the kachara while bathing but how do you keep a kirpan on your head without it falling off? As for pesh, this not something you would go for peshi. The only thing that you go for peshi is if you commit one of the four kurheits not something like this. Chamkila ji that is taksal maryada not Sikh marayda which is not aligned with any jatha. Gurfateh Ji
  7. i recently took amrit and was told that i have to wear a kachara while bathing and then only taking it off with one leg in and the other in the new kachara. and i have to tie a kirpan around my head when taking a shower. i tried to these things but i just found myself wasting time and getting frustrated on these practices. i feel that they are bhraman type rituals which hold no spirtual meaning whatsoever. these practices did have their place in Guru Ji's time. wearing kachara while bathing made sense because everyone would bath in rivers out in the open so for privacy sake it made sense to wear it and then change it while the other was on. aswell as wearing a kirpan at all times even while bathing made sense at that time because Singhs could be attacked at any time so they have to have their shastars closeby. but in today's world they make no sense. if you are alone in a locked bathroom there is no need to for these things. also, if you don't wear a kirpan while bathing or a kachara does that mean that amrit is broken? i think not, amrit is very powerful only doing a major kurheit can it be broken not by not wearing a kirpan or kachara while bathing, we are not bhramans, Guru Sahib took us out of rituals. these are just my thoughts please post yours. Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!
  8. I wasn't try to start anything. But dodra programs are different than AKJ ones. What makes an AKJ kirtan an AKJ kirtan? It is the fact that jatha does kirtan. Just as dodra programs have their own way of doing things. I have been to both AKJ and dodra and can there is a definate difference. Also I was confused because there are no AKJ kirtans in Edmonton because the sangat there follows dodra. Gurfateh
  9. I think that the heading is misleading, this is a dodra program, it should be labeled so that people know this is not an AKJ kirtan. Just like AKJ programs are labeled so should this be so that people know the difference. Gurfateh
  10. Is this program held in a Gurudwara or a Hall?
  11. can someone post any links where kirpan cases are discussed, i believe it is illegal for Sikhs to wear kirpans anywhere in US Gurfateh Ji
  12. i don't think that we should listen to any kirtan from any group where patits do kirtan be it monas or any others who are not proper Sikhs. any sangat which commits the bujjer kurheit of letting non Sikhs do kirtan should not be listened to or followed. even if you don't listen to their parchaar, the fact that they are listened to gives other patits encouragement to do kirtan. my 2 cents. GurFateh
  13. but the reality is Jathas are a part of Sikhi, the good and bad ones. even with jathas we can unite under the banner of khalsa. so we gotta acknowledge them. also about Sikhs not getting along. i heard once that the British once said that Sikhs can conquer the world in 7 days but can not rule for a single day. food for thought. Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!
  14. We are all Sikhs, no doubts. But to claim to belong to a jatha is not a crime, nor is it against Sikhi. It is wrong to say I am a "-------" Singh/Singhnee. But it is ok to say that I am Guru ka Sikh, and the sangat that I follow is "--------" . The reason there is a need for GurSikh Jathas such as akj or taksaal is that main stream Sikhi is on the decline. For example, I live in the states and if you were to go Gurdwara on sunday, there are no amritdhari singhs or for that matter many with Kesh. That is mainstream Sikhi, there no jathabandees have any effect and you can see the result. If your jatha is all amritdhari and that is a requirement, then the chance of any dilution does not exist. And if it weren't for certain jathas, who would have protected Sikhi in 84? Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!
  15. No disrespect to you mani, but your posts are getting redundant and annoying. Everything that you listed above is common sense, we aren't idiots. Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!
