  1. Fateh I will like to add here: That the Rehat maryada does dictate that the Deg should be distributed with hands but the hands should be free of any jewellery such as rings. Kara does not come tight around your wrist and is cleaned;however rings do not and are considered as unhygenic. What I do notice is that there are ppl who carry on distributing deg with their rings on. Perhaps the Committee should set up the rules for Deg to be distributed with hands free of any rings etc.
  2. Fateh . . . got this link sent across...... http://www.sikhoutreach.org
  3. Fateh . . . Dass came across this website as sent by an acquaintance (no I am not claiming) I thought that if these good folks are helping their own kaum / community then perhaps this can be translated to punjabi for our kaum too. Again dont flame me for this just an observation. Appreciate your comments on how our own community can be helped by such informative sites so that the people who come here dont suffer. http://www.benefity.org.uk/ Fateh . . . .
  4. Fateh Sharing link: in case unseen http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-24206688
  5. Fateh . . . There has been an influx of main stream panjabi movies in the recent months. Some major names being Jaat Airways, Jaat Boys, Jat and Juliet, etc. etc. etc. As much as I refrain from cinema but still being in media have been caught up by these. My concern by skimming through some of these movies. Families protraried in these are Sikh Families: However if you just notice being a SIkh there is hardly a single person who portrays as a Sikh. The scenes shown going to gurudwara shows the Guru Khar being deserted apart from the Gurudwara Staff (Giani, sewadars) being there. This is ridiculous. This is what is being shown. Has panjab really changed this much. Are we really becoming lost in this hype? Sensible comments pls... Fateh . . .
  6. Fateh . . . Interesting article in case unseen. 'We'd be better off if we'd been born in India' http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/economic-slump-leaves-households-in-%E2%80%98war-time%E2%80%99-era-171959991.html Fateh . . .
  7. Fateh I am looking for the following: Nanak Jor Gobind Ka Puran Guntas (Or on very similar lines) No results from Sikhitothemax and srigranth.org. Can you help identifying where this is quoted from? Fateh

  9. The discussion posted via you tube link is quite interesting and good. Q: Raised is that such movies can raise the movements again which were not good for the state of punjab. well on these similar basis then any movie relating to the independence of India should be banned as well as it can raise issues against the west by the patrotic indians. this argument does not stand at all . Just a point to be noticed.
  10. It is indeed. Although unsure if I can find the aboves as have already searched the relevant sites...

  14. Fateh . . . . To clarify: NOT SUPPORTIVE OF ANY COMMITTES So a picture gets removed and the sangat is upset. Lets explore - Who was the committe incharge when the picture was put up - The Baaz Group (Sohi Group). - Which committe gave the goahead of the picture to be placed where it was - The Baaz Group - Which committe continuted to ignore any H&S related issues whilst this was in place - The Baaz Group Now they thought lets remove this picture: (without consulation with the Sangat) Reasons given - Drugs being sold behind the picture. Well in that case you have a bigger problem in running the gurudwara - Health and Saftey When did they ever conduct a H&S review. You will find never unless some back dated documents are now produced. - We do not worship Idols Oh and you just remembered that. Have a look inside your home (which I have had visited) and there are pics glore. I fail to understand that all sangat, and all tv presenters do not click that they can quiz the ID 10 T's that they are interviewing to expose them. The muppets will remain muppets and are never going to have the decency or see beyond their nose. Hence the reason for us being in this mess. Enough said - Southall Committes (both of them) are worse than each other. What's the solution - RAB RAKHA! Fateh . . . .
  15. Fateh Without prejudice. We had Guru Nanak ji through to Guru Gobind Singh ji as our Guru's. The summary of the Guru's were saluted by Guru Gobind Singh ji in the Ardass. All the way through the Ardaas; The Guru's names are placed as per their names without additonal salutations i.e. of Dev or Deo or Sahib.... Care to explain why the additonal respectful salutations are not added in the Ardass. Fateh . . . .
  16. Fateh . . . Tony aka moi did say this as it was a question which I was seeking clarification on. In our Ardas the names of the Gurus are given as first names. All around SGGS the writers name is listed as the name not as full name. My question was merely seeking clarification: as the word DEV in Hinduism does mean devta. My concern here is that we need to educated; understand the concept behind; and it can be done by intellectual discussion. Yes I agree that we can use any word for respect be it SAHIB, or DEV, or Ji, or anything similar. I am not convinced by the above explanation as it seems somewhat hearsay, and it does seems to be the writers views for which he does choose somewhat madeup theories. Happy to discuss further and accept an intellectual convincing answer. Fateh . . .
  17. where did the word DEV in the name of the sikh gurus come from. From what I understand the names were Guru Nanak Guru Angand Guru Arjan Now where in Gurbani or history does the word DEV comes - so where has this word DEV been associated from. Thanks
  18. Fateh With all due respect..... I apprecaite the seva being done here. But surely you can see that this is somewhat preaching how to make mantras etc out of gurbani. Is this something which is in accordance with the Sikhi code of conduct? Appreciate comments (non foolish ones) pls. Fateh . . .
  19. Fateh.... Came across this video... in case unseen. Part II - Fateh. . . Apologies for multiple postings; but the system shows an error when you submit your post; however it does post it in the background. Mods - pls remove the other duplicate threads. Thanks

  21. Fateh Just wanted to check if anyone knows that the Baba ji from Baru Sahib will be visiting London this week? Understand that Sangat TV have published a generic account number which is for Sanagt Aid. Appreciate if anyone can share Baba ji's scheduled. Thanks Fateh .
  22. Simran 345 - I could not find this shabad even. But perhaps it has not been uploaded anywhere yet. Thanks for your help though.
  23. Fateh . . . I am looking for a shabad by Bhai Nanak SIngh Preet: Jis Ka Pita tu hai mere swami. Any direction .... appreciated. Fateh ...
  24. Fateh.... Once again this issue can be easily resolved by reading our (son much forgotten) rehat maryada. (see abtract taken from: http://www.sgpc.net/rehat_maryada/section_three_chap_five.html CHAPTER V Kirtan (Devotional Hymns Singing by a Group or an Indvidual) Article VI <a name="article6" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: arial; font-size: small; "> a) Only a Sikh may perform Kirtan in a congregation. b) Kirtan means singing the scriptural compositions in traditional musical measures. c) In the congragation, Kirtan only of Gurbani (Guru Granth's or Guru Gobind Singh's hymns) and, for its elaboration, of the compositions of Bhai Gurdas and Bhai Nand Lal, may be performed. d) It is improper, while singing hymns to rhythmic folk tunes or to traditional musical measures, or in team singing, to induct into them improvised and extraneous refrains. Only a line from the hymn should be made a refrain. Hope this clarifies. Fateh .. . .
  25. Fateh For an organisation who is doing such a brilliant work with little resources, it is the duty of the sikhs to support them in all aspects. Just looked up for their details: here is a useful link: http://www.sasorg.co.uk/donate.html Fateh.
