  1. ^ That's a known rare complication of many vaccines. It says it clearly in the consent form when you get it.
  2. ^ Can you get the Baxter vaccine on the NHS?
  3. vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh SikhSeeker, I'd urge you not to listen to any replies you get on Sikhsangat. An internet forum is not the best place to go when your wife's health is at stake, and not many people here will have actually seen the evidence base for the vaccination. The majority of statements are based on rumour. Arrange an appointment with your nurse or GP and ask them any questions you have. That's what they're avaiable for! Also read this leaflet carefully and show it to your wife: http://www.nhs.uk/news/Documents/Swine-flu-and-pregnancy.pdf vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh
  4. This might help: http://www.vidhia.com/Bhai_Kulbir_Singh_Ji/Karma%20-%20Bhai%20Kulbir%20Singh%20Ji.pdf
  5. I was also sent this email. Thought I'd share some replies to it which I also received.
  6. vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh Do you know of any katha which is relatively easy for a fool like me to understand which discusses the meanings of Guru Sahib's Laavan? Thanks : ) vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh
  7. vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh It's not a crime to feel an emotion. However nobody can tell you if it's weird or why you feel the way you do. That's an internal discussion that needs to be had by yourself. I'm sure you already know this, so really the question is why did you make a thread about it. Gskapoor, do your own research about the methods used by the Sikhs before 84, there is plenty of information out there which is easily accessible. We should be careful about what we say when we bring Guru Ji into the discussion. We end up using our opinions on the actions of our Guru Sahibaan to defend our own Mat and lines of thought, which we then use to beat other people with. How do you know if our Gurus had Daya for Masands or not? Gurbani actually says very clearly that Guru Ji and true Sikhs have compassion for everyone, and see Guru Sahib in everyone. When justice needs to be served it is served, and Guru Gobind Singh Ji was a great example of this. However, as Japji Sahib says, there is no use in pretending to know the intention of Guru Ji because we would be doomed to failure even if we tried. There is a fine balance between universal compassion and the need for justice to be served. I'm not qualified to write on that topic but I'd emphasise that it's not as clearcut as we might think. vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh
  8. Jag Singh - I did provide an example but perhaps you missed it. Anyway it seems you are extremely unsatisfied with all my responses so I will instead direct you to Gurbani so you can figure anything out that way. Mehtab you never provided an option for those who are neutral?
  9. Jag_Singh, whether a person wants to stop in the middle of their actions, or before or after is up to them. I think any rational person would chose the latter two options so that they can adjust their actions in the future if necessary. With respect to other people's opinions, I am merely saying that if we have a question we shouldn't rely on other human's opinions alone to get the answer. Relying on Guru Ji is always best. I'd also quite like to know the answer to this.
  10. I was just asking you to clarify Jag_Singh as I wasn't sure what you meant. My general point was just as you said above, that we should be able to read and understand Gurbani in order to apply it to everyday situations. If we have a question (any question), looking at what Guru Ji Himself says is surely better than asking anybody else. However if we need help in understand Guru Ji's message then of course sangat is a great way to enhance your knowledge. For example with the subject of Bhangra. People play it/listen to it/dance to it for many different reasons. So if someone who dances to it wants to know whether it's right or wrong then they can ask themselves internally why they're doing it? Then figure out if the reasons are based on ego, or pleasing other people, or fitness, or something else. Then relating these reasons back to Gurbani one can assess whether it's a useful activity or if it's in line with Gurmat. However I don't want to tell anybody how to live their life.
  11. I think the point which has been missed alluded to the fact that many things we do in life are governed by our own egos, whether it involves dancing or singing or wearing fancy clothes or many other things. So we need to evaluate whether our intentions are gurmat-based or self-based. Then we can decide what's right or wrong for ourselves in the best way possible, rather than relying on other people's opinions.
  12. Unless you were one of the people who suffered on both occasions, no comparison can or should be made.
  13. The article you're looking for was contained in the Criminal Justice Act, you can try googling that. However I think the government may have updated the law or something so I'm not 100% sure which is the up to date version now, or where it can be found.
  14. Have you read it? The original post didn't mention anything about removing/changing/re-colouring white hair.
  15. vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh For a moment I was wondering did I post this thread and forget about it? This question has been on my mind for many years too. I think a lot of the answers you will get will be things like 'Where do you draw the line' or 'Don't go overboard' etc. I have a feeling most of these replies are written because people prefer to choose the easier option rather than the right one. The way I look at it every time we harm anyone or anything we will have to pay for it in some way, whether in this life or the next. Sakhis from Guru Har Rai Saheb Ji's life and also other Gursikh's experiences have indicated this. The only thing we can do is try not to intentionally harm animals and also pray to Guru Saheb so that he'll guide us. If you think about all the great Bhagats and Sants we've had, most of them lived very simple lives. Perhaps the issue is to cut out the attachment we have to Maya? And Guru Ji is very clear about how to deal with that. I don't think we should compare ourselves to Guru Saheb. Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj hunted but this doesn't mean we should also. Remember that Guru Saheb was the embodiment of Akaal Purakh himself. Whichever animal Guru Sahib's arrows touched was undoubtedly liberated immediately. But we aren't Guru Ji. In my opinion f you have the strength to stop doing/buying/eating/using all the things you mentioned then you should definitely go ahead and do it. But always supplement it with your internal rehit. Everything I've said is my own opinion based on what I've learned from Gurbani and others over the last few years so I don't think you should use it as fact. As I've already said, I've been thinking about this issue for a long time too. vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh p.s. Pheena if you read this please share your views.
  16. Britons creating 'more emissions' http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8283909.stm Greenhouse gas emissions created by Britons are probably twice as bad as figures suggest, says the government's new chief energy scientist. Professor David MacKay told the BBC that reductions in carbon dioxide emissions since 1990 are "an illusion". "Our energy footprint has decreased over the last few decades and that's largely because we've exported our industry," he said. Developing countries now made the goods that Britain buys, he added. He was speaking unofficially in a previously recorded interview, but his comments will increase pressure on the UK to improve its offer of emissions cuts at the upcoming climate change talks. "Other countries make stuff for us so we have naughty, naughty China and India out of control with rising emissions but it's because they are making our stuff for us now," he said. "It's been estimated by Dieter Helm from the University of Oxford that roughly half of our energy footprint actually lives overseas so our true footprint is twice as big as it looks on paper." Prof Helm's paper suggests if the UK counted "embedded" emissions, its total pollution would have gone up not down. --- What a great country
  17. vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh I'm not sure if one particular type of seva is better than another. I went to a camp once when I was more of a kid than I am now, and there was a one-hour session each day where seva was done in the Gurdwara Sahib. I remember one group had been assigned to clean the toilets and weren't overly enthusiastic about it. One of the Uncle-Sevadaars explained that seva is about humility and remembering Guru Ji and the more 'lowly' seva you do the more rewards you reap - (although obviously one shouldn't do seva in order to be rewarded for anything, that was just for the kiddies) - Anywhoo after that all the groups were fighting to clean the toilets : ) In my opinion, the most important thing about doing any seva is that it should be done with humility and whilst remembering Guru Ji. Maybe other people could make other suggestions about what you could do. vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh
  18. vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh Immortal Shaheed, nobody is saying that you should apply to University based on this guide alone. Obviously the academic factors should be taken into account. The thing is there are many resources and prospectuses out there which provide information on this. Also nobody is claiming that going to a Sikh Society or any other programme immediately makes someone the perfect Singh/Kaur. In fact it's well known that some Sikh Societies don't actually follow or implement the principles of Gurmat, so for that reason there is a question which asks you to outline the role such societies play. Lastly we all know that education is very important in this world and that we should all aim as high as possible in life. However having Guru Ji's Darshan on a regular basis is beneficial not only in this world but also in the next, and has the power to clean our souls of millions of sins. At least this is what Gurbani tells us. If you've ever been to University in an area where there are no Sikhs you will know how important and uplifting sangat can be. For this reason this guide is being put together. It is to be used in conjunction with, not in replace of, current ways of choosing a University. I hope this is clearer now. vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh
  19. vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh What's making you think you committed a sin? Is it because of what your friends are saying? Don't be too harsh on yourself. We all lose our self-control sometimes in different ways. The best thing to do would be to do Ardas to Guru Ji asking to keep you on His path and for forgiveness if you think you need it. vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh
  20. vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh To Harsimran Kaur and everybody else, the guide will most likely be available online but can only be made available if people fill in the questionairre : ) vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh
  21. vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh Some Sevadaars are putting together a University Guide for prospective Sikh students in the UK to provide information on various Universities across the country from a Sikhi perspective.
