  2. As members of the community, students are affected by many of the decisions made by their local council and the European parliament. NUS will be working hard over the next few months encouraging as many students to get registered to vote, and make sure their voice is heard on 4 June. Fighting the BNP This year, the BNP will pose a significant threat in the European elections. In the North West, the BNP only need a 2-3 per cent swing to their 2004 vote to win a European parliamentary seat. In Yorkshire and Humber, the BNP only need an increase of 3 to 4 points. But these are not the only places that the BNP are campaigning. The threat affects all our members and the danger is nationwide. The BNP are a known racist and fascist party who seek to divide our diverse communities with their politics of hatred and fear. Over the coming months NUS will be campaigning tirelessly to do all we can to ensure our members are not waking up on 8 June to find they are being represented by a MEP from the BNP, but we need you to help to stop this. What you can do There are many ways you can help defeat the BNP: Register to vote. For the European elections students can vote either in their home town or university town. If your local council is holding elections you can vote both in your council elections at home and in your university town. Download your voter registration form now. The deadline for registration is 19 May so make sure you register today; campaign: Unite Against Fascism and Searchlight are experienced and well organised at fighting the BNP. NUS will be working with these campaigning organisations and we will be encouraging students to join them. By joining one of these organisations, you will be kept up-to-date with campaigning activities in your area; get Active: Anti-BNP activities and campaigns are being organised up and down the country. Check out local activities in your area. get in touch: If you want to be more involved in helping NUS fight the BNP please email susan.nash@nus.org.uk
  3. I dont think things will get that bad on this occasion but what is clear that some British Muslim male's have been going to Pakistan to get modern urban warefare training in Jihadi terror camps, while the British "indian" community has got nothing. Even some members of the British Jewish community go to Israel to get military training from Israeli organisations. We are like sitting ducks if any violence and hostlities were to break out, what use is gatka in modern urban warefare? Surely Sikhs should actively seek out training courses where you can be prepared for such events for self defence purposes. Surely there must be courses run by British army that Sikh organisations can participate in? I agree with your point about British Gursikhs, they will always stay in their comfort zones and rely on the mona/sahejdhari Sikhs to fight their battles for them. When in fact the very reason the Khalsa was created was the other way around, for GurSikhs to be the soliders in the front line in defence of the dharam and community. The question arises has the role of the Khalsa become obsolete? Are the Khalsa's in the west sheep in lions clothing that Guru ji warned about? It's important to note that those muslims who are trying to mock sikhi in the video are a specific sect called salafi they are like sunni's but believe in direct confrontation with non-muslims. They also mock and try to target shia muslims at their gatherings. a sikh regiment in the british army would be a start. and the only way that would happen is if some of us took the plunge and joined up... Even if loads of us did join up - it's been made pretty clear the Army dont intend on creating a Sikh regiment as it leads to segregation etc. and there is no need for on in the army...according to those in control. Anyways all I can say is the best thing for all of us to do is join up - the army gives you much more than you can possibly imagine. - i.e. not just military training

  6. Theres also some really peaceful places (believe it or not) in Kartarpur (Indian Punjab) like the gurudwara where Guru Tegh Bahadur got married to Mata Ji. Also, Tarn Taran - it's nearby to Harmandhir Sahib but it's not so commercialised...maaaaasssive sarovar over there, I loved it, - and also Gurudwara Baba Buddha Ji...loooovely onion parathas there
  7. 'Wahhabi and taliban Sikhs dominate debate on what is "Sikhism". Hence any attempt to look at the roots and sources of Sikh spirituality is denounced as Hindu garbage, Hinduisation, or a conspiracy by the RSS or Brahmans. So its ok to drink, smoke, do drugs, steal, be violent, wife beat, rape, murder etc, just dont do anything that smacks of the non-existent faith called "Hinduism". Thats the main reason why so many Sikh girls convert to Islam because either they have not been taught their own culture, or they ahve been brought up in a quasi-islamic environment making them easy pickings for Islamic missionaries. cant say theres much to disagree on there...except for the taliban environment part because the kids are too hindu influenced - dont know enough about sikhi
