  1. The user you guys are talking about .. "Kirtan 125" .. just posted twice above the last two posts and it dont seem she is like how all you are referring her as. I agree with SikhRoots, this issue should be resolved with admin, maybe it is a virus.
  2. Veerai, look harder, sadly this problem is everywhere in our community, some may not be as openly published as this one but there are THOUSANDS of these cases.
  3. Please get in touch with sikh elders in your area that can go to your school and talk to your teacher in a more professional manner.
  4. Blissful Singh, A simple question please do answer. You have mentioned you will be taking amrit soon, and your a true sikh of the guru. May I ask, at what level of respect do you keep Guru Granth Saahib jee? Many have gave direct lines from bani but you are brushing it away like it means nothing to you .. I really dont understand brother.
  5. You definetely DO need a reality check. Just to clarify, I am neither Dodra, akj, taksal or whatever else label you would like to put on me. I do associate with all of them, but I do NOT agree to ONEs rehat/beliefs/principles but rather have respect for all. Many sikhs from other jathai goto each others programs, so now will you classify them as part of that jatha? We ALL need to get away from this labelling each other from a certain jatha, we are ALL from the Khalsa Panth! YKDs are not dodra. Anyone will be able to tell you that keertanees/sevadaars come from wide range of backgrounds, and are not "MAINLY" dodra. Its people like you who do not understand the real essence of SIKHI but rather downgrade others sikhi.. Furthermore, personally I am against Namdharis doing kirtan seva in Gurudwaras. We have recently circulated the hukamnama and have asked sevadaars to please obey by this hukam. In the past we have let them as it was 'sangats' request at the time, and to me, sangat is guru roop sadh sangat. I do not hide behind user names, and you need to come face to face with me and we can do a proper SIKH vichaar. If your son of Guru Gobind Singh jee, and if you got something you would like to get off your mind still, you say it to me in person. I got nothing further to say to you online here, if you would like to proceed further, PM me and I would be more than happy to answer anymore of your complaints and misguided thoughts. If not, go do some naam, bani, SEVA ! Vaheguruu ji ka khalsa, Vaheguruu ji ki fatehh
  6. I 'heard' .. they 'heard'... this is what HURTS us... ASSUMPTIONS ! Then my next question for you singh is why dont YOU do something instead of sitting behind a computer under a gupt screen name? Why dont you come out and take the initiative to bring 'more' rehat into these programs. Sevadaars spend days trying to organize these programs to the best of their capability with a lot of sharda and pyaar, and then we get people like you who want to put all their efforts to waste. Think before you write this stuff... ..and thats jus my two cents
  7. Vaheguruu ji ka khalsa, Vaheguruu ji ki fateh You need to address your concerns with sevadaars of that specific youth kirtan. Every youth kirtan have their own sevadaars and their own way how they go about organizing their program (ie. toronto, waterloo, london etx..) As an elder youth, where I have attended majority of the youth kirtans, guru saahibs kirpa, I would be more than happy to address any concerns you may have. At this particular YKD, I was present and have saw nothing what you call "little to no rehat" present. Sevadaars, many of which are rehitvaan gursikhs, were there early, and with pyaar/satkaar did seva of guru saahib till the end of the program. And if you say you have been to 'some' of these 'youth kirtans', then you will know that seva for kirtan is equally divided amongst all youth, and not a specific jatha. Most of the youth that come do not associate themselves with any jatha, so please STOP this labelling. Again if you have any concerns, send me your concerns to singh.jaspaul@gmail.com Vaheguruu ji ka khalsa, Vaheguruu ji ki fateh !!
  8. We have weekly simran programs here in TO, some sangat dont know about it.. this week I had at least 4-5 that came upto me saying we found out about this because of facebook, we will come every week. Facebook has its advantages/disadvantages. The real question is not if its a waste of time, but can YOU manage your time? The same goes for forums, surfing the net, etx..
  9. If only everyone would singh like that when a not so famous keertani or youth keertani where to do the seva agreed. the real reason too why manchester is always rammed out is because well known keeranis are always doing the keertan. now if you where at manchester rainsbhai for when manpreet singh came, who saw how many people got up after he finished? like half of darbaar sahib lolll anyway, everyone try and come to smagam and get as much laha as you can True, but I guess thats a loss for them then .. I believe Bibi Harjeet Kaur did kirtan seva right after manpreet singh jee. Shes a great gursikh with a lot of gyaan, and been around in jatha for a looong time now. Listening to her do kirtan seva is a blessing !
  10. Veerai, I am still backing what I said, and believe I have said nothing wrong. Read my post again with an open mind. You have said nothing wrong either, and I respect your thoughts on the issue. I respect the hukamnama and I do not associate with any of them. But I do have respect for all, as per Sikhi teachings
  11. Banged or beheaded, thats very harsh! I encourage/do benti to all sangat, please do your research before drawing conclusions about certain groups/sects. Yes, they are bringing our Sikhi down in India and other places, and something does need to be done. First and foremost, the initial post is written towards NAMDHARIS. I have done very extensive research on this group (not to mention most of my family belongs to this side). You can say Namdharis and even Nirankaris have a lot similar. Both were on the uprise in the 1800s as a prominent positive jatha/group that was all preaching pro-sikh values and practises. It is not until the 1900s from the departure of the british and the rise of other corrupted internal groups in India that these groups started to change. Source: http://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/Nirankari (this is not my only source, I have done some research in India as well, but thought I include this for those that want a quick read) Baba Ram singh jee of namdhari, and Baba Dayal singh jee of the "nirankaris" were great gursikhs of the panth, who only preached the teachings of our gurus. It is only after that people started showing them in a different light as a continuation guruship lineage in Sikhi. I quote, "The sect was founded by Baba Dayal Singh (1783-1855) a Sahajdhari Sikh whose main mission was to bring Sikhs back to the Adi Granth and nam-simaran." Doesnt this sound a little too familiar? Isnt this how most groups/jathas start? Than you have corrupted influence by other internal/external groups trying to take all this good away. (ie.RSS) Again, please do your research and dont draw conclusions based on what others are saying. These groups have just been corrupted in this past century. You can NOT blame the kids that are being born in these groups/sects. They have grown up into them and took it for granted that THIS is sikhi for them. How would you feel, as a Sikh raised with Sikhi/Khalsa principles of Guru Gobind Singh jee, that someone telling you that you are not Sikh? Just my two cents, bhul chuka maaphi
  12. Great post Alias, totally agree with you. Just one thing, the bani tuk at the end is actually... gun gaavath man hariaa hovai || But yes, great points you raised in your post !
  13. Veer Khalsaforce, Please give your translation for the following shabad (just curious). I dont think you touched on this tuk from gurbani in this thread... ਕਰਿ ਗਵਨੁ ਬਸੁਧਾ ਤੀਰਥਹ ਮਜਨੁ ਮਿਲਨ ਕਉ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਾ ॥ wandering all over the earth and bathing at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, people seek to meet the Pure Lord. ਮਾਨੁਖ ਬਨੁ ਤਿਨੁ ਪਸੂ ਪੰਖੀ ਸਗਲ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਅਰਾਧਤੇ ॥ Mortals, forests, blades of grass, animals and birds all meditate on You (Waheguru). ਦਇਆਲ ਲਾਲ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਗਤੇ ॥੧॥ The Merciful Beloved Lord, the Lord of the Universe is found; O Nanak, joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, salvation is attained. ||1||
  14. On the matter of last names. The problem is not having singh/kaur as your last name, its if you are all egoistic/proud of your caste. I think there is NO problem having your original family name as your last name and then adding Singh/Kaur as your middle name. Because think about it, if we were ALL to change our last names to singhs/kaurs, you will NOT be able to identify your own relatives. Think very hard now, how would you know if you are marrying your own cousin? If we all have same last names, our future generations will have big time problems. Think common sense, guru ji stopped us from bigging up our caste/being proud of it/putting others down... NOT from using it. I guess one can just simply use it on paper, but I know many who dont even do that...
  15. Yes you DO have a choice. I come from a relative POOR family. My grandfather passed away when my dad was 7. My dad had 3 older sisters. All the stress fell on my grandma as all our relatives just thought of plots on how to take their money and land away. They lived on incomes of under 10-20 rupees a day! She use to stitch for a profession. Little small things. Dad also use to make small toy cars out o wood to sell in the pind. Yes this was the past but my point which I am trying to make is, we DO have a choice. Today, dads sisters are married and happy, in wealthy families with businesses. Dad tried many professions, but knew with limited education he did not have the talent but he still committed in learning new things. This was 20 years ago. Today with the growing economy we are in, we have A LOT more choices. And trust me, im sure people have a better option then making just $10-12 an hour or owning a store and making not even 25-30K annually. Get out more, do your research, stay in school, you are not bound to one workstyle !
  16. Vaheguruu ji ka khalsa, Vaheguruu ji ki fatehh Thought I share a file with you all. Anand Karaj kirtan done in RAAG ! Please check it out, very rare we see recordings up online. http://www.sikhvibes.com/kirtan/index.php?...irtan+-+October Kirtan seva done by Bhai Rupinder Singh Jee (TO), very active in keeping puraatan raag maryada alive. Vaheguruu ji ka khalsa, Vaheguruu ji ki fatehh
  17. We must be very careful when we write stuff on forums... Yes raags are important but their are MANY countless gursikhs that havnt done raag in kirtan sevaa. To name a few Bhai Saahib Jeevan Singh jee, Sant Isher Singh Jee, and many more. We cant question them why they didnt take the time to singh in raag, maybe they did and just didnt do it in sangat. bhenjee be very careful in the way you address it, I know it was meant intentionally but there are others that would Back to the topic.. I personally think deliberately listening to a hindi song and converting it into a shabad tune is wrong. But a lot do it and some truly get closer to guru saahib, so whatever floats your boat. This one singh was telling me, who has SOO much love for sikhi. He loves doing kirtan, day and night. He knows raag but sings in akhand kirtan too. He tells me sometimes he would open up a amrit kirtan random page and just do a random shabad and whatever 'tune' comes to his mind. I dont think this is wrong, as it is coming from the heart, from within.
  18. He also called our father .. dhan guru gobind singh saahib jee ..... a "misguided patroit" <_<
  19. A store will only confiscate this money (which is not theirs either) and add it to their funds.. I agree with Pheena, save it up and use it towards a good cause.
