  1. Keep doing simran. Weird symptoms are normal, just ignore it
  2. fix your health including exercise and eating. fix your sleep: http://khojee.wordpress.com/2012/01/29/shabad-to-cure-insomnia/
  3. the dark night of the soul is an important process for one's spiritual growth. you cant stop it by distracting yourself. it's impossible to run away from it for long b/c it's always there. but you can get through it. all you have to do is keep on keeping on. be patient. the magic formula here is seva simran satsangat ardass.
  4. your friendships are based on karmic relationships of give and take between each other. when the karma is finished than the natural attraction of the friendship also finishes. let them go if need be. also, worlldy people, and even religious people, frequently don't want you to change b/c they have some sort of benefit from you remaining the same. if you change they lose that benefit. listen to your soul and you can't go wrong. you will make new friend.s
  5. Sant ji was forced to tell Sikhs to defend themselves after police forces repeatedly tortured and even killed innocent nonviolently protesting sikhs. Before the level of violence against protesters was ratcheted up Sant ji would tell people to not resist arrest and to remain nonviolent. Afterwards he told them to get away and not get arrested by any means necessary. The government controlled newspapers spread propaganda against the movement and the actions of the government itself backed him into a corner. However, he very clearly, in front of the entire world, followed to the letter Guru ji's hukum to only raise the sword after all other means had failed. He exhausted all peaceful means. Even up until the final battle he was willing to negotiate. Longowal's betrayal is discussed here: http://www.bhindranwale.net/sikhismbooks/thegallantdefender-chapter11.html http://www.scribd.com/doc/45704391/Longowal-letter2
  6. if you do it consistently for 3 days you will find that it's much easier after that. just tough it out for 2 or 3 days.
  7. eventually a stage comes when you do need a guide, but i believe circumstances will be created to connect you with one when you need it. i wouldn't worry about it. shaking happens to me to, its normal.
  8. gupt singh, having a job gives a person great solace, b/c they know they can take care of themselves if they have to. it lets a person stand up for what is right b/c you no longer depend on the person who is promoting the wrong. i would get a job and do lots of simran and sangat. this you you become stronger externally and internally. then just do it. don't ask her. sometimes parents just bluff to try to control their kids. and if you do lose her, the truth is she was never yours to begin with!!
  9. go to satsangat everyday. there is salvation there and shelter. the energy of meditating in sangat is immensely powerful. over time this energy will build up the power inside of you, you will be empowered to change your bad habits and to stand tall again. when dealing with wrongs from the past i find that two things are very very important. one is to forgive others and ourselves too. the second is to learn what we can from it. sometimes people ask why did this happen? b/c we almost never receive confirmation of the reason why this question can destroy our peace of mind. don't bother asking it. it's bhana, leave it at that and ask what can i learn from this? how can i use this to make me a better person/sikh?
  10. if it doesn't cover the head it's not a topi. it's fine. but i do feel singhs should wear dastars and not duo rags as Guru ji's hukam is to wear dastar and not to copy rappers.
  11. If the love for Guru ji is inside your heart than your outer actions will reflect this love. If it doesn't matter how temples are decorated then why do devotees everywhere of all dharms keep their temples clean and decorate them with offerings? love. love shows in your actions. In one of the puratan granths it is written that Guru ji was asked why kesh must be kept. 'This is the modern day, so why keep it as it's not necessary?' asked the questioner. Guru ji said the sun, the moon, the air, the ground etc, all of these things are the same as in previous ages. But the difference is that in this age mens' hearts are weak and quick to make excuses.
  12. veer ji, Guru ji's Hukam is that an Amritdhari can only marry another Amritdhari. Not marry someone, and then have them take Amrit afterwards. so be careful before getting in too deep. also, sikhs are not allowed to mess about before marriage, not even a little. Not saying that you're doing that btw, but gorian usually have different mindsets. Race and caste shouldn't be issues for Sikhs, unless you're thinking about them in terms of cultural compatibility.

    Baldness

anyone can take Amrit, regardless of whether they are bald or not.
  14. Exactly, the above passage also emphasizes the different FORMS of the Guru.
  15. your parents, like most parents, probably prioritize academic and career achievement along with rishtay over all else. if you can show them examples of singhs who have excelled and show them that sikhi will not harm your education they may calm down a bit. also, if you make a lot of changes all at once that may be too much for them. maybe introduce only one or two changes at a time after Amrit to ease them into it. people have something invested in you remaining how you always were. when you change it upsets the status quo and the fight to keep their investment safe. maybe they want to remain asleep in maya and seeing a gursikh bothers them. maybe its something else. but i've noticed people try to hold others back from changing almost always for petty reasons. ask yourself what worldly benefit will they get if i don't change? then you can show them, in a really clear way, that they can still get SOME of these benefits from you. and just brush under the rug the fact that some of those ''benefits'' they will never get from you again.
  16. The Khalsa Panth is Guru ROOP, not the Guru itself, similar to how the punj pyare are Guru roop. This makes sense b/c the Guru is one, and does not hold opinions or beliefs that contradict himself. But the panth has different groups in it with different beliefs. A self-contradicting Guru makes no sense. Additionally, there is a sakhi from the time of the jungs with the hill rajas. The Khalsa was crushing their armies when the Guru sent his messenger with the message to the Sikhs to turn back and cease the battle. The Khalsa ignored him thinking that they were so powerful and amazing and none could stand before them. Guru ji withdrew his kirpa and the Singhs were soundly defeated. Humbled they apologized, realising that all kirpa comes from the Guru. This sakhi shows that the panth, in and of itself, is not Guru, but rather a roop of the Guru through which the Guru can spread his kirpa and achieve his aims in the world.

    I Had A Dream.

Thank you for sharing that beautiful dream. sometimes we have darshan of the Guru in our dream too. this is real. Later on we get darshan in real life. I would guess that, yes, it was real. Listen to your intuition, what does it say?
  18. take a look at what skills you are good at look at what skills you like using the intersection of the two provides a whole range of career opportunities to explore, the idea being that you will enjoy your job more and do better at it if you are using your strengths. also, look back in life at when you are at your most content/ happiest. the skills used in those moments could give hints into what type of career might be best for you. once you come up with some ideas it owould be helpful to schedule informational interviews with people in those fields, maybe even job shadow them for a day or two when you start getting serious about it.
  19. you're trying too hard to focus. just do it in a relaxed way and there won't be pain.
  20. You should ask Tirath Singh. He is a poster on Sikh awareness who actually did study Sikhi at a higher level. He also has experience with both the traditional and western styles of teaching Sikh studies. He's probably your best bet in starting your search. N3O should have his contact info.
  21. http://www.alessiorastani.net/ten-words-that-changed-my-life/ I am sure you’ve heard plenty of “This changed my life” stories. But today as I turn 36, I thought I would share with you something that not only completely changed my life for the better but it could well change yours as well. When I look back at the past 13 years, I can remember two events that were huge turning points in my life. The first was when I read a superb book given to me by my friend Samuel who was an ex-Goldman Sachs trader (I’ll tell you about this book in the next few weeks). The second was when I attended a speech in 2002 given by a man who later became my business mentor and also a close personal friend. At the speech he uttered 10 words that I consider to have an extraordinary impact on my life. It changed everything that I do… and I owe my life to him. But before I tell you what these 10 words were, allow me to give you some background: Even though today I lead a happy, successful and confident life with my work, friends and family… it wasn’t like that eleven years ago. I was a different person back then. In fact, I don’t even recognise myself anymore. All through school and college I avoided conflict and tried to get out of fights with fellow classmates. At University, I was afraid to ask girls out on a date. I don’t have to tell you how many potential relationships I missed out on. Yes, I was a coward. This same fear translated itself into my choice of career. I used to work for a law firm – what I considered to be a “safe” job, hoping for a pay rise and promotion. I have found that most people are not that different either. Most people will stick at doing jobs they either hate or find boring and unsatisfying. A recent survey found that while 89% of people dislike their jobs, their biggest fear is getting fired from their jobs. I ask you – what kind of a life is that? Most people will stick through an unfulfilling relationship that is going nowhere. Others will delay seeing a doctor when they know their health is getting worse. It is the fear of the unknown that paralyses people. It holds them from seeking something better from their life and achieving their goals and dreams. The biggest threat to your success is NOT some “thing” or person out there. The real danger is you listening to that nagging voice inside your head that says: “What if it doesn’t work?“. Once you listen to that voice, its over and you become its slave. The truth is… and I want you to remember this: Most of the things you worry about will NEVER come true. They will never happen. As Will Smith’s character says in the movie After Earth: “Fear is a choice. It is a product of your imagination.” But danger IS real. I am not saying do not assess the risks. But once you have learnt how to control the risks, fear should NOT hold you back. My life changed when my mentor said these 10 words: “Your success… depends on how much uncertainty YOU can handle“. He continued: “The more uncertainty you can handle in your life, the more successful you will be – in anything you do. Not just in wealth, but also in your health and relationships.” Now I understood. The problem is that we humans hate uncertainty. Wars and battles have been fought, millions killed, for what? In order to impose control and certainty on people. Look at the markets for example. Stocks crash and volatility increases when investors become worried and uncertain. Most people fear uncertainty. Guess why 89% of people feel unsatisfied with their life! A job is never “safe”. That B.S. about “job safety” has brainwashed people to make disastrous choices. Unsurprisingly, people have still not learnt the lessons of the 2008 recession when millions of workers were made redundant. But if you embrace uncertainty, you will see wealth and success beyond your imagination. Don’t believe me? Four years ago a very brave friend of mine who was a soldier in the US Army was badly wounded in Afghanistan. We all thought that was the end of his career. Wrong. He got the medal of honour for bravery. He now works in undercover operations in the middle east and makes more money in a single day than any man could possibly dream of. People who choose to let go of fear and face risks, like soldiers in battle, will be rewarded for their bravery. It is the same reason why we trade. You and I know the risks we face every single day as traders. The uncertainties and challenges we face in the markets. People who want certainty should NOT invest. Investing will always carry a degree of risk and uncertainty. And that uncertainty will reward you in the long term. So let me ask you to do one thing today: Embrace uncertainty! Let uncertainty be your friend. Uncertainty is the price we pay for our freedom and the wealth we make. People who choose the illusion of “safety” over uncertainty are destined for a life of mediocrity, frustration and unrealised dreams. So here’s to YOUR success, and the next 12 months… Alessio
  22. it's not ocd. if you think about something a lot, it creates a habit. so now, even without trying, this habit creates more and more of these kinds of thoughts. now that the thoughts are there and you want to get rid of them, you focus on them even more. the more you focus on them, the more energy they are given. and so the cycle of thoughts happens even more. anytime you watch, read, think about, hang around with any person or thing that is somewhat sex promoting then that will reinforce the thoughts. the best way to deal with it is to focus on other things. like naam/bani, seva, school/work, reading, working out, socialising. the thoughts will still come, and sometimes will even increase in frequency and make life difficult. the key is to keep your attention on other things as much as possible. know that it is normal for these thoughts to come. know that as you shift the focus of your life to other things you are no longer reinforcing the energy of these thoughts and that over time their frequency will decrease. but you still may get tested some days. eating healthier food, less junk and spicy food or food made by manmukhs will help. most of all you need to be patient. ask god for bhukh (hunger) for naam and this hunger will eat up the dhukh (pain) caused to you by your thoughts
  23. the third eye is one of the energy centres in the body. as one progresses along the spiritual path these centres begin to open up. you don't even have to think about it or focus on them for this to happen. however, it does take time and for someone to have an open third eye is quite rare. once open, it allows you to see into the spiritual world. however, in the grand scheme of things, it is not considered to be an advanced stage.
  24. Awesome article .Would love to see it printed on leaflets and distributed at nagar kirtans or something. it does, however, require one more proofread for grammer. Great work.
