  1. Why doesn't the state government just declare Sri Amristar Sahib a holy city and prohibit alcohol, tobacco, and meat from being sold in the city? Because there is too much money to be made from the sale of these things, on top of profits from restaurants, hotels and pub/clubs. What we need today is a way for Sikhs worldwide to have equal representation from each country in order to limit interference from the GOI and its cells. In India its all politics, the five Jathedars & SPGC make most of their decisions according to their political alignment or for self profit, not caring for what would be best for the entire panth. Like on the issue of a memorial for Operation Blue Star, I pretty sure that majority of Sikhs worldwide want this but the SPGC in India won't make one! We need to figure out a way to have better distribution of representation, so Sikhs outside of India can have their say on important decisions, maybe make an International SPGC, with representation from the UK, Canada, US, India, Pakistan ect. Any ideas?
  2. I don't know the Singh's name but I believe he was apart of the KCF.
  3. Wait a minute, the news article states the Sikh Community (above articles state around 35 families, other I have read say around 15-25 families) paid 20,000,000 rupees for jizia. That is a lot of money, especially since these Sikhs live in the tribal regions which I suspect is not very well off economically. So where did they get the money from? I mean, 20,000,000 rupees is equal to $301,712.40 dollars Canadian, I don't think 35 families in Canada would able to pay this off. 20,000,000.00 PKR = 301,712.40 CAD (Canadian Dollars) = 248,447.20 USD (United States Dollars) = 190,487.63 EUR (Euro) = 168,167.65 GBP (United Kingdom Pounds)
  4. Its the freakin Taliban, they are extorting money from anywhere possible, look at the news clip, people that work on the main highway of Karachi have to give 50% of their money to the Taliban, the Taliban own multi-million dollars worth of construction equipment that is used on the highway. It is clear that Pakistan cannot even secure its largest city, how are they supposed to secure a tribal region in which all of the control is given to the Pasthons and Tribal Elders? Sending more aid will not solve the situation due to the large level of corruption. Only way to solve this problem is for an international coalition to come in and work with Pakistan, otherwise it is clear that the Taliban will slowing gain more support and control. President Obama said that he will go after Taliban leaders in Pakistan, I think now is the time to go in, even without consent from the Pakistani Government. I live in Canada but I think you guys are referring to Dal Khalsa UK, what do you want them to do? Condemn the Pakistan Government for not providing security to minorities in a region they don't even control? Funny thing is that the RSS and Taliban have a lot in common, they both hate western culture, they both want to create one religion state/country, they both like picking on minorities, they both want to nuke other countries, they both have backwards ideology and are a bunch of crazy nuts.
  5. The Taliban are slowing taking over control in Pakistan, watch the following CBC News clip:
  6. More Jagowale for sure, also would like to hear a track from Moranwali Dhadi Jatha. Dhadi remixes are great!

  9. This is being made more complicated than it should be. A Sikh is someone who wants to help spread the message of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, it doesn't matter if your mona or keshdharee. A person is not a Sikh when he/she spreads or encourages things that would be considered against the teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. For example if you drink alcohol but keep it to yourself, I would considered you a Sikh because it’s your own personal problem and I have no right to judge you. You have to fight your own battles and ask Guru Ji for help. BUT if you encourage others to drink alcohol, then you are not a Sikh because you are speaking against the teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and propagating a message different from our Guru Sahibs.
  10. If a person believes in One God and has faith in the teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, that person should be considered a Sikh, doesn't matter if you're mona or keshdharee. But keep this in mind, a person should not be considered a Sikh if he/she encourages others to take part in things that are against the teachings of Sikhi. I don’t care if you have a hair cut or trim your beard or drink, that’s your own personal choice (I will still call you a Sikh) but if you go around encouraging these types of things and telling others to drink or smoke or cut their hair or discriminate, then you should not be considered a Sikh. Its the duty of a Sikh to spread the message of Guru Ji and anyone who spreads the opposite message, should be considered the exact opposite – not a Sikh. Just my thoughts.

  12. Sikhs groups need to respond sharply to these types of attacks and misrepresentation of our faith. We need a watch dog group to review all serials and make public any offensive material, since Sikhs are not being allowed to sit on the Indian Censorship Board. Repeated requests by the SPGC in recent years for Sikh representation on the board have been denied or ignored. The SPGC had first requested for a seat back in 1998 but nothing has happened since. Here's a quote from G.S. Tohra, former President of SPGC: "Such misrepresentation of Sikhs had hurt the feelings of the whole Sikh Panth. The Sikhs believed that the phenomenon was either a planned conspiracy or a mischief on the part of some anti-Sikh elements" SGPC wants its man on film censor board 1998 Indian Express Newspapers http://www.indianexpress.com/res/web/pIe/i...0/32451504.html
  13. From the information that has come forth, it is very clear that the terrorists were well trained commando style fighters, who had a clear strategy and had pre-planned every step. They were probably trained by the ISI, with the help of militant groups inside of Pakistan or even Kashmir. Its highly unlikely that Hindutva groups are involved, these guys worship radioactive sand from nuclear testing sites (believe nuclear weapons are a gift from mother India) and are so right wing hardcore bharitees that they would never do anything like this, especially killing random people at a train station named "Shivaji Train Station" or trying to shut (through fear) the "Gateway to India" or attack hotels that are India's iconic jewels, a hotel that was made to snub British rule. In the larger view, conflict in disputed areas in both India and Pakistan will never end with military force, using force will only delay things temporarily but the fighting will never stop.
  14. CNN is reporting that all filming/video streaming by media has been suspended. Looks like the Indian Security Forces are going to storm the Taj. Just a cowardly attack by these terrorists on innocent people.
  15. Does anyone have any video clips that they would like to share?
  16. Hindu man pretended to be Sikh to seek refuge in Canada TORONTO: A Hindu man, who came to Canada in 1998 on fake papers and lied about his links to Babbar Khalsa to seek refuge on grounds of religious persecution in India, is in double trouble. Because of his lies, he now fears both the Indian government and Babbar Khalsa. Forty-two-year-old Baljit Ram told the Vancouver Sun Monday that he is a Hindu and lied about his religion to support his case against deportation to India. He said he was told by his advisers to pretend to be a Babbar Khalsa member to persuade the Canadian authorities to grant him refugee status. However, his case was rejected and he was ordered to be deported in 2000. But Ram went underground and was noticed only this September when he was found stabbed at a subway station in Surrey on the outskirts of Vancouver. On verification, police found that he had been ordered to be deported to India eight years ago, and that he also had an arrest warrant pending against him. "I am Hindu," Ram was quoted as saying by the Vancouver Sun. Like many Indians who land in Canada on fake papers and later seek refugee status citing persecution in India, Ram said he also lied to the Canadian authorities about his membership of Babbar Khalsa which is banned in India and Canada. "First time I come, I lie and say I was Babbar Khalsa member. I wanted to stay here so I lied. Everybody who comes here, first day, everybody lie (and) say Babbar Khalsa party member or other story like this. I don't know Babbar Khalsa. I know nothing," he told the newspaper. The newspaper wondered why the arrest warrant against Ram was issued only this January when he should have been deported in 2000. The warrant document also identified him as a Babbar Khalsa member. Pleading to be allowed to stay in Canada, he said, "If I go to India, I have problems. Police there (might) say, 'Hey you were lying there. Maybe you are a Babbar Khalsa member. Maybe (the) Babbar Khalsa party give me problem." However, the newspaper quoted his lawyer as saying that Ram had claimed links to Babbar Khalsa while seeking review of his deportation order. Ram said he has been living on allowances given by friends and a gurdwara for the past eight years. But the gurdwara has denied any links to him.

Ram said he has been living on allowances given by friends and a gurdwara for the past eight years. But the gurdwara has denied any links to him. Man admits he lied about link to Babbar Khalsa group Failed refugee also faked religious beliefs to sway immigration board Kim Bolan, Vancouver Sun Published: Tuesday, November 11, 2008 Failed refugee Baljit Ram says he lied about being a member of the Babbar Khalsa terrorist group to persuade Canadian authorities to let him stay in the country. In fact, Ram told The Vancouver Sun Monday that he is not even a Sikh, but claimed to be one in order to have a compelling yarn for the Immigration and Refugee Board when he arrived in Canada illegally in 1998. "I am Hindu," said Ram, who had been living underground for eight years until he was stabbed near the Surrey Central SkyTrain station Sept. 30. "First time I come, I lie and say I was Babbar Khalsa member." Ram said he was advised by friends to pretend to be with the Sikh militant group that had been fighting for Khalistan so he could prove persecution and be accepted as a refugee. "I wanted to stay here so I lied. Everybody who comes here, first day, everybody lie [and] say Babbar Khalsa party member or other story like this," Ram said in broken English. "I don't know Babbar Khalsa. I know nothing." After the 42-year-old surfaced because of the stabbing, police found an online warrant for his arrest. The warrant was issued by the Canada Border Services Agency just this past January, even though Ram had not reported for his deportation back in 2000. The warrant request document states that Ram was identified as Babbar Khalsa, a group banned in Canada in 2003. Ram was then interviewed at Royal Columbian hospital by a CBSA official, who did not say anything in his notes about Ram changing his story. Asked if he told the CBSA agent he was originally lying, Ram said the man never asked during the meeting. "There in the hospital, he never ask me there, 'Oh, are you terrorist?' Nothing," Ram said, adding that he believes he should now be allowed to stay in Canada. "If I go to India, I have problems. Police there [might] say, 'Hey you were lying there. Maybe you are a Babbar Khalsa member,'" Ram said. "Maybe [the] Babbar Khalsa party give me problem." Ram made the rounds of Punjabi language stations Monday, saying news reports in The Vancouver Sun quoting government documents linking him to the Babbar Khalsa are wrong. He told The Sun he has not worked in the decade he has been in Canada, but lives on handouts from friends. He told the CBSA agent Sept. 30 that he had been paid by Surrey's Guru Nanak Sikh temple, something temple president Balwant Singh Gill adamantly denied. Not only did Ram originally claim he was in the Babbar Khalsa, he reiterated that position when he sought a judicial review of the refugee board decision to the Federal Court of Canada in 2000, according to court files obtained from Ottawa Monday. "The panel also had clear evidence that the applicant was involved in Babbar Khalsa and was arrested twice," Ram's Calgary lawyer Dalwinder Singh Hayer argued. Hayer also said in court documents that Ram is definitely Sikh, despite the refugee board's ruling that Ram had Hindu tattoos. "The applicant explained very clearly that he belongs to a sub-caste and is poorly educated," Hayer wrote. "It is respectfully submitted that the panel had no evidence that these two tattoos are of the Hindu faith." The Federal Court ruled against Ram in October 2000. In an interview from Calgary Monday, Hayer said he could not remember the case, but would review his files. He said he was surprised to learn Ram was now refuting what he had originally claimed in his refugee case. The original IRB ruling on Ram was attached to the Federal Court file. IRB members Anna Terrana and Paulah Dauns said in the May 8, 2000, decision that Ram lacked credibility and they doubted he was a Sikh or in the Babbar Khalsa party. "The claimant's only notion of the Party is that they wanted to create a separate Khalistan and were prepared to kill in order to achieve their goal," the ruling said, pointing out that the Babbar Khalsa is "believed responsible for bombing Air-India flight from Montreal to India, killing 329. The claimant said he never heard about the bombing of the Air India airplane."
  18. Let get Gill out! He has been arrested before for drunk driving, all while he was the elected "leader" at the Gurdwara. He's a bad example for Sikh community and the Youth in particular. I wiil vote against him!
  19. What is this “Udasigadee” that was passed to Baba Sri Chand or the “Udasi panth”? 20. http://www.sikhnet.com/inspiration/yoga-an...eep-singh#_ftn1 Yoga & Sikh Dharma (By Amandeep Singh) When the British annexed Punjab in 1849, they would usually classify the Sikhs as a sect of Hinduism. During these times, a Sikh reform movement known as Tat Khalsa came into existence. In their efforts to present the Sikh faith as a distinct religion, they disassociated themselves with many of the practices that they viewed as having a Hindu influence on the Sikhs. It was during these times that Yoga, along many other practices, started to be discouraged in the Sikh community. What many Sikhs don’t know is that prior to this, the five older Sikh Traditions known as Puratan Sikh Sampardas had always considered Yogic Practices as part of Sikhi. Even today, most Udasi Sikhs and Nirmala Sikhs still practice Yoga. The Udasi tradition was founded by Baba Sri Chand, the elder son of Guru Nanak. He was a Baal Jogiswar, who lived to 151 be years old but always looked like he was 12 years old in his appearance. He was one of the world’s greatest acknowledged Yogis. He was always in his subtle body. Very few people met him in physical form, but everywhere he appeared in his radiant body, in perfect form and shape. When Guru Nanak Dev Ji returned from his 4th and last Udasi (journey), he presented his Udasi robe to Baba Sri Chand. Baba Sri Chand continued the tradition of Udasis (journeys) and went as far as Afghanistan, Tibet, Nepal, Assam, Bhutan and all over India to continue spreading the message of his father. On July 5th, 1982, Yogi Harbhajan Singh Ji said: “Guru Nanak was heard, followed and listened to by hundreds of thousands of people, and there was only one who could succeed him, Lehna. Guru Nanak’s own sons, Baba Sri Chand and Baba Lakshmi Chand, were perfect. Don’t think that there was anything less in them. But Guru Nanak wanted to give grace to the householder. One Gadee or throne of spirituality was given to Baba Sri Chand for the Udasi Panth, the unattached sect of that time. Therefore the other throne was to be given to a disciple, and that was Lehna who became Guru Angad.” Guru Nanak himself crowned Baba Sri Chand as a Yogi, to take care of the Yogis, who were bothering the householders with their occult powers. While Gurgadee was passed to Guru Angad Dev, Udasigadee was bestowed upon Baba Sri Chand. He accepted the responsibility given to him by his father and Guru to unite the various Yogic schools of India. He was revered by Muslims, Sufis, Lamas, Hindus, ascetics and householders alike. When it came to Guru Ram Das the 4th Guru, Baba Sri Chand came to visit Guru Ram Das. This meeting is beautifully recorded in the Gurpratap Suraj Granth as follows: Ek jaam den jabeh rahaeoo Aaee rababi kirtan gaeeoo Uch asthan Sri Chand bethaey Aph nimar kar tare takaey[76] When the first hour of the day passed The rebabis came to perform kirtan. The Guru gave Sri Chand the higher throne. In his humility he himself sat below.76 Sri chand boley tatkalu Karat parkh-na prem dialu Ithna Dara kaes bhadaayoo Sun kar satgur bhou Niranmayo[77] Sri Chand, the kind one, questioned the guru with the intention of testing him. “Why have you grown your beard so long?” Hearing this guru looked at the ground.77 Dohra Charan gahey kar prem se Paochay barangbar Eas-he heth vedhat bhe Suniya gur sut diyaar[78] The Guru held the feet of Baba Sri Chand with topmost devotion And began to sweep it again and again with his long beard. “This is the reason for growing it so long Hear, oh great son of my Guru”.78 Dekh nimarta guru kee Sri chand bhaey parsan Angad lini sev kar Tumro prem anan[79] Seeing the humility of the guru, Baba Sri Chand was totally pleased And remarked, “Guru Angad earned the Gur-gaddhi through service, and you got it through devotion.”79 Tumri mahima adhak haiKaee-ay kaha bena-ey Tumreh sar meh jo maje Papi bhi gat paey[80] Your glory is higher then the high What more can I say Whoever shall came into your fold, Even the greatest sinners shall be saved.80 Baba Sri Chand in return bowed at the feet of Guru Ram Das. Under Baba Sri Chand’s guidance, the heads of all the schools of yoga (which he had united under the instructions of Guru Nanak) also came and bowed to Guru Ram Das. This sealed the future. From that moment forward, the lineage of the royal throne of Raj Yoga would come through the subtle and radiant bodies of Guru Ram Das. Thus Kundalini Yoga as Raj Yoga was brought through the House of Guru Ram Das, and got ‘coloured’ with the Sikh consciousness. Raaj Jog TakhatDee-an Gur Raamdaas. Guru Ram Das was blessed with the Throne of Raja Yoga. (Sri Guru Granth Sahib, pg 1399 ) The Nirmala Sikh tradition was founded by Guru Gobind Singh. He sent five Sikhs to Benaras, which was the centre of learning in those days, to learn all the ancient technologies of Yoga, Astrology, Ayurveda, Numerology, Vedanta, Viakaran, Khat Darshan etc. When these Sikhs returned, Guru Gobind Singh bestowed the title of Nirmalas upon them which means the pure ones. They began to impart the Yogic knowledge, along with the other technologies they had mastered, to the Sikhs by setting up different schools throughout India. It is recorded in Sikh history that great Sikhs like Baba Deep Singh and Bhai Mani Singh who were the jewels of the 10th Guru’s court were the Nirmala’s students. To date there still exist yogic writings written by these Nirmala Saints that are being preserved in their ashrams in the different states of India. Yoga traditionally was part and parcel of the Sikh Dharma until the coming of the British. In the Sri Guru Granth Sahib, the Gurus along with the Bhagats and Bhatts have made many references to Yogic technology. Sudarshan Chakra Kriya about which Yogi Ji says,“Of all the 20 types of Yoga, including Kundalini Yoga, this is the highest Kriya” is recorded on Page 1106 of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. rwgu mwrU bwxI jYdyau jIau kI raag maaroo banee jaiday-o jee-o kee Raag Maaroo, The Word Of Jai Dayv Jee: <> siqgur pRswid ] ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad. 21. We need to get our house in order and do some parchar. The Punjabi social structure (aka caste system) is pushing a lot 'Dalit' Sikhs away but those who still are committed to Guru Sahib have built Gurdwaras and shown us what true Sikhs are supposed to be, fighting through all of the discrimination put towards them by thier own Punjabi people. What the RSS, VHP, BJP & Shiv Sena are doing right now against Christians is no different that what the Mughals did to Hindus in the past, forceful conversion and the destruction of Mandirs. Now these right wing fanatics are burning down churches, raping nuns, and forcing coversions back to Hinduism.
  22. Ludhiana, Friday 3 October 2008: Angered by the soaring list of film shootings at the Golden Temple, the most revered shrine of the Sikhs, priests have said the gurdwara could soon be put out of bounds for most of Bollywood. The development comes days after Shah Rukh Khan shot for his film Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi at Harmandir Sahib. Everybody wants to shoot at the Golden Temple, an angry Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar complained on Wednesday. They (the film crew) make it inconvenient for the devotees and just don’t care about maryada. We have decided to be more wary and circumspect in granting permission to film crews for shoots at the Golden Temple, said SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar. Only those films or programmes that help the Sikh cause will be allowed to be shot inside the Harmandir Sahib,”he added. The SGPC’s announcement on keeping the temple out of bounds for film crew has shocked Bollywood. Filmmaker and cinematographer Manmohan Singh said, how can they do that. There’s only one Golden Temple and one can only go there and shoot. The SGPC needs to rethink this. At the most, it can frame guidelines for people like us. Speaking to news agencies from London, Vipul Shah, the maker of ‘Namaste London’, said, it’s a pious place and we respect the teachings of Sikhism. But there has to be some way out of this so that directors are allowed to shoot. The SGPC, though, can set guidelines. A committee can perhaps be set up to devise a strategy. Our purpose is to showcase the opulence of the temple, so that non-Sikhs also get to know about Punjabi culture. Award-winning director Madhur Bhandarkar, too, is not amused. There has to be a solution to this. Maybe they can earmark some spaces for shoots along with specific days on which to do so, he said. On the complaint relating to maryada, he said, there can be no compromises on that. Only those who provide an assurance that the shoot will take place in accordance with norms should be allowed. Director Satish Kaushik, for whom Punjab is a favourite theme as well as a location ground, said banning shoots at the Golden Temple would not solve the problem. Shooting at the gurdwara is a different experience altogether, he said. While actor-turned-politician Dara Singh said the SGPC could perhaps have scripts read to them for approval, director Aaditya Bhatt said, I was also planning to shoot at the Golden Temple. Let’s see what happens now. The SGPC could make the process more stringent rather than imposing an outright ban.” The SGPC’s reservations, which could derail the plans of a host of Bollywood directors intending to shoot at the picturesque gurdwara, may have been triggered by Raj Kanwar’s Sadiyaan, starring Rekha and Rishi Kapoor, getting into the crosshairs of the priests. During the shooting of the film in March, the SGPC had taken exception to a scene in which the leading actress is shown feeding prasad to her co-star. Offended, the temple management had ordered the director to scrap the scene. ITS ABOUT TIME THE SGPC DID SOMETHING!
  23. Indian media targets Sikhs in aftermath of bombing Punjab Newsline Network Saturday, 04 October 2008 NEW DELHI: As India is in the process of recovering from the New Delhi bomb attacks, the face of the media is turning towards possible suspects to put the blame on. Although organizations claiming to represent the "Islamic Nation" have taken the responsibility for the attacks, reports published without proofs by different Indian media outlets suggest the involvement of Sikh organizations--the usual scapegoat. On September 28th, the Zee News corporation, which has created outrage in different communities over time for publishing baseless information, published a news story claiming that the Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) is planning to revive the militancy movement in the Eastern Punjab with the help of Babbar Khalsa International and the Khalistan Commando Force. According to the report, Zee News had in its possession a report by the Intelligence Bureau that exposed these facts. However, no mention of any actual facts whatsoever are made in the news article. The report by Zee News alleges that the ISI has received major support from the instability in Pakistan and from the increasing number of unemployed youth in Punjab. They further allege that the main motive of ISI remains to damage the Indian brotherhood, it is luring the youth in Punjab to help assist with criminal activities. Making a rather humorous statement, Zee News further puts the blame of the "Sikh-Dera" tension on the ISI. Interestingly, according to them, the protests that erupted after blasphemous incidents by Dera Sacha Sauda were in fact motivated by the ISI. The newspaper makes the statement, "For that ISI Brigadier has been in touch with Babbar Khalsa and Pakistan based KCF. Reportedly, heads of Babbar Khalsa and KCF held secret meetings recently to decide upon their operations." The identity of the ISI brigadier is however undisclosed. Zee News cautions that attacks similar to the recent ones in Delhi are being planned all across India for which a huge number of so-called terrorists of the "Khalistan Army" will be travelling to India through river routes. Their alleged places of hiding include Ayantpur, Kanganwadi and Karwal. The "Khalistan Army" has been reinitiated by the ISI and the operatives are living in bunkers situated close the Indo-Pak border. Interestingly, as claimed by Zee News, the "Khalistan Army" has the full support of the Pakistan Government. Sikh Organizations based in Punjab and different parts of the globe should pay proper attention to increasing anti-Sikh propaganda by the Zee News Network. Its motives of branding the Sikh Youth as Pakistan supported agents should not be tolerated and legal action should be taken to stop this type of blatantly false and racist portrayal of the Sikh Community in the world media.
