  4. PS. The facebook link is now "unavailable" so I don't know exactly what they wrote about Kam Singh, but I truly hope it wasn't a personal attack.
  5. Look guys, this is typical Davy Bal tactics. I have personally worked close with Davy Bal for a while and although he's a very "interesting" character, he wouldn't put Kam or anyone that helps him out in a line of fire. That I am pretty sure of. By "banning" Kam from the Sikh Channel, he will put his case forward to Ofcom that he has taken active steps to make sure it doesn't happen again. If he blames the presenter, there's not a lot Ofcom can do about it. I do wish Davy Bal would just communicate PROPERLY with his team but this has been a long time problem of his and he always fails to do that. I am sure if he explained to Kam Singh and others about his actions, they would support him. Instead, he just uses silly one liner tactics to communicate like "Kam Singh is banned from Sikh Channel. No more Kam Singh" etc etc and it's just stupid. He could save himself a lot of agro if he would just communicate properly. Davy Bal is just trying to stop himself getting fined by Ofcom.
  6. Well I think we need to stand with Sikh Channel when it comes to this because they didn't do anything wrong. Infact, they done what was being asked of them by so many people to talk about these issues. It would be an injustice in itself if they did get fined and they won't be fining the channel, they will be fining the viewers, the sangat who contribute their earnings towards the channel.
  7. He was a fantastic singer and musician and will be dearly missed. http://sikhroots.com/video/viewvideo/20/kirtan/dhur-ki-bani-jagjit-singh http://sikhroots.com/video/viewvideo/31/kirtan/tera-keeta-jagjit-singh http://sikhroots.com/video/viewvideo/29/kirtan/kuvan-gun-prapat-jagjit-singh
  8. My point was, you don't have to be a "raagi" to be able to sing mantras or keertan. But agreed, there's limits to that. If you talk about what those limits are, then we will go around in circles forever on this forum because everyone will have their own idea on where to draw the line. Big respect to those that do sing in pure raag compositions though and I personally think everyone should learn raags. I just don't feel it should excuse those that don't, from singing Gurbani.
  9. Just out of curiosity, do you think people like Bhagat Namdev and others who were poor and uneducated always repeated God's name and done simran, keertan in the raags? But I do have to add, it's a shame to see such tracks such as this out there on the net. Trance and dance do not go with Gurbani. The filmi music some of you guys refer to are from really old puraatan reetaan as well, just because Bollywood produces use these reetaan, does not necessarily mean they originated from the filmi world.

  13. Every weekend, Gurdwaras take saroops to someones house (or even business place) for akhand paaths, sehaj paaths, sukhmani sahib paaths etc. These residences or businesses aren't checked prior to Maharaj being brought there. Some Gurdwaras who have respect and sense, do advise the families that they need to remove all sign of alcohol and meat before Maharaj gets there, but they are very few. Sangat in UK won't react to someone having a wedding at their house for those reasons because... well, it happens every single week anyway. Not saying it's right, not at all. I think we have enough extravagant Gurdwaras in UK to be able to accommodate weddings and there shouldn't be a need to have it at someones home. Unless, of course they are illegal immigrants getting married and the Gurdwaras cannot legally do it in the Gurdwara, which happens. So really, my suggestion to you would be to strongly advise the family against it, but if they must make sure you enforce the fact they are not to have meat and alcohol on the premises during that time. We can't change it across the UK or the world, but we can individually make a difference in our own lives and the small world around us.

  19. http://www.hindustantimes.com/Indian-man-pleads-guilty-to-manslaughter-of-toddler/Article1-639023.aspx Indian national Gursewak Dhillon, accused in the death of three-year-old Gurshan Singh Channa, on Thursday pleaded guilty before an Australian court, which heard that the accused acted out of "fear" and "stupidity" after accidentally knocking down the toddler. 25-year-old Gursewak Dhillon, who was living with the toddler and his parents, broke down and told the truth as he appeared before the Victorian Supreme Court. The toddler went missing on March 4 this year when his mother was taking shower at their Lalor home. His body was found by a council worker near Melbourne Airport, six hours after he disappeared. Dhillon pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Channa, whose body was found dumped in long grass on a roadside on March 4 this year. The incident had sent shock waves across India. He confessed to knocking the three-year-old unconscious with the front door. During the pre-sentence hearing on Thursday, media reports qouted prosecutor Gavin Silbert as saying that Dhillon feared deportation following the incident. In an act of fear and panic, Dhillon placed Gurshan in the boot of his car and drove around for two hours without seeking medical attention, passing the Northern Hospital on his journey, the Supreme Court was told. After the hearing, Dhillon was remanded in custody until February 2, 2011 when he will be sentenced by Justice Lex Lasry. Defence barrister Chris Winneke told the court that Dhillon had acted out of "fear, panic, naivety and stupidity" which may well have caused Gurshan's death. "It's true that the death of Gurshan Channa is tragic. It was a death that need not have occurred and would not have occurred if not for the conduct of the prisoner," he said. Winneke said there was an element of self preservation about Dhillon's actions, adding there was no excuse for his "grossly stupid decision" to place the child in the boot where temperatures could have soared to 40 degrees. He said Dhillon did not know whether Gurshan was dead or alive when he dumped him. Medical evidence showed Dhillon's death could not have been caused by being hit by the front door. Dhillon later told police "I am a very bad human," the court was told. In their victim impact statement, Gurshan's parents, who have returned to live in India, described their constant pain and anguish from losing their child. They said they could not conceive another child due to the severe stress over his death. "I've lost a piece of myself," they wrote.
