Facebook: www.facebook.com/torontosinghs Twitter: www.twitter.com/SinghsCampTO Instagram: www.instagram.com/torontosinghscamp YouTube: www.youtube.com/user/SinghsCampTO ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Below is a great article written by a Singh from Toronto that we would like to share with everyone: -------------------------------- Siri Jap jee Sahib – Importance of Amritvela In the 4th pauri of Siri Jap jee Sahib, the following 4 pankitis are of great significance as far as Amritvela is concerned: From the first two pankitis (of this pauri) we find out that all that we have is from Vaheguru. Since, everything is from Vaheguru, then, what is it that we can present to Vaheguru so that we may be able to behold his Darbar (court)? Continuing on from the previous pankiti, Siri Guru jee asks second question, “what should be uttered from the mouth, hearing which, he may shower his love on us.” This pankiti proves that there is such a word, by the uttering of which, he showers us with love. We all know that this word is Naam-Gurmantra. The response to the questions in the 2 previous pankitis is most magnificent. Siri Guru jee says that in order to view his darbaar and to get his love, one must have Amritvela, Sacha Naam (true Naam) and contemplation of his qualities (through Gurbani). In other words, one must possess Amritvela i.e. get up early in the morning and do chanting of Sach Naam and do contemplation of his qualities through Gurbani When one does what is mentioned in the previous pankiti, then through his grace (karmi, kirpa naal) one receives the cloth or robe of honour (siropa) and by his kirpa (nadree) one receives Mokh-duaar (doorway of salvation). Some scholars have interpreted the word “ਕਪੜਾ” as the human form but the problem in doing these meanings is that the flow that is continuing from previous pankitis is lost. Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh jee, Giani Bachan Singh Faridkoti, Professor Sahib Singh and many other scholars have interpreted this word as robe of honour (siropa). From the above vichaar, it is clear that the way to achieve salvation and grace of Vaheguru is to have Amritvela Naam Abhyaas. What is Amritvela? Amritvela is the last pehar (3 hours or so) of the night, which is highly productive time for Naam Japna. The whole world is sleeping and Gursikhs find this time very peaceful to concentrate on Naam and contemplate on the qualities of Vaheguru listed in Gurbani. Gurmukhs who have reached high spiritual states say that at this time there is a shower or rainfall of Amrit. For this reason, one can effortlessly concentrate on Naam and achieve the spiritual aim much faster. The nights become long and short at different times of the year. For this reason many Gursikhs stick to one time to get up year around. If a Gursikh gets up around 2am, it is the most suitable time. Some Gursikhs get up even at 11:30 pm and get ready at 12 am to japp Naam. While one must commend this effort of these Gursikhs but reading history we find out that most Gursikhs used to get up around 2am or be ready for Simran at 2am. More References from Gurbani The effort of getting up at Amritvela has been ordained by Guru Sahib in Gurbani. Presented below are some pankitis that give us hukam to get up early morning: The alert ones who are seekers of Vaheguru, with great enthusiasm get up by the 4th part of the night. Their friendship is with rivers (where they take shower i.e. do ishnaan) and in their mouth and mind is the true Naam. Baba Farid jee in his baani stated above, is making it clear that ones who don’t get up at the last part of the night are spiritually dead people. Siri Guru Arjun Dev jee Maharaj in Maaroo Dakhne (above) state that O Gursikh, if you chant the Naam at early morning and this way contemplate on the Charan of Guru, and sing the praises of Vaheguru, your dirt of birth and death (many life forms) will be erased. ॥ Translation: There are fortunate ones, who at the time of early morning take shower (do Ishnaan) and then read, hear and sing Gurbani and Naam. After taking shower at early morning with pure heart they do worshipping of Vaheguru with full methodology. The body becomes gold like by touching the Paaras of Naam and by concentrating on Jyot Roopi (spirit form) Vaheguru. Babeeha is a bird that can drink water only from rainfall. Even if there is ocean full of water, this bird cannot use this water to quench its thirst. It has to rely on rain water. When this bird gets thirsty, it cries in such mercy-invoking way that it melts the heart of who ever hears it. Vaheguru too is prompted to send rainfall to quench the thirst of this bird. When the Gursikh roopi Babeeha cries out (chants Naam with love) at amritvela, only then his cries or requests are heard by Vaheguru. This pankiti makes it clear that unless we do Amritvela, our cries and requests are not heard by Vaheguru. Amritvela is important for a Gursikh because it is the hukam of Guru Sahib to get up early and engage in Naam Abhyaas. Gurbani goes as far as saying that those who don’t get up early morning are spiritually dead. Please refer to the aforementioned Gurbani Pankitis for detail on this. What to do at Amritvela? ਮ: 4 ॥ 2॥ As per the famous salok of Siri Guru Ramdaas jee Maharaj, listed above, the following should be done at Amritvela: 1) Recitation of Naam as soon as one gets up. 2) Gurmat Ishnaan of whole of the body including the hair. While doing Ishnaan one must do paath of Gurbani, Mool Mantra or Naam Abhyaas. 3) Nitnem of 5 Baanis should begin after Ishnaan is done and not while doing Ishnaan. 4) Nitnem of 5 baanis is of utmost importance and should be done at amritvela. 5) Naam Abhyaas can be done alone too but to have maximum benefit, it should be done along with Siri Sukhmani Sahib (reference from Bhai Sahib’s writing coming later in this article). 6) After concluding Naam Abhyaas, one should go to Gurdwara Sahib or where ever one can have darshan of Siri Guru Granth Sahib jee and do kirtan of Siri Asa kee Vaar. The amritvela should conclude with Siri Asa kee Vaar and if possible with Karah Parshad. 7) Then during the day, doing all tasks, one should continue doing Naam Abhyaas. 8) Such Gursikh who does Naam Abhyaas all the time through every breath is very dear to Guru Sahib. Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh jee's views on Amritvela With reference to the above Salok, Bhai Sahib has written the following: Loose Translation: The everyday activity of a true Bibeki Sikh of Satguru is get up in the morning and meditate on Naam according to the Gurmat methodology (Vidhi Poorbak). From the second verse of this Salok, the starting of the methodology of Naam Abhyaas is described. A Gursikh should get up very early in the morning and take shower and while taking shower, he should chant the Amrit Baani and this way do Ishnaan in the Sarovar (pond) of Amritsar. Then while doing the paath of Nitnem (prescribed 5 baanis), he should do Naam Abhyaas and as a result of this doing, all sins get washed away. Then at sunrise, as per the hukam “ਗੁਰੂ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੰਮਾਲੇਹੁ”, while doing darshan of Siri Guru Granth Sahib jee, he should recite or sing Gurbani with sweet voice. Then while doing all works during the day, he should continue to recite Naam with every breath. Bhai Sahib writes that there comes an avastha while reciting Naam, when one’s concentration just becomes dull and one cannot derive pleasure or rass from Naam Abhyaas. To avoid this Bhai Sahib has written that, it is a good idea to do Naam Abhyaas and Gurbani Paath together. Bhai Sahib has written the following with respect to this: Loose Translation: The best way to be saved from this (avoid dull concentration) is to do Naam Abhyaas and Gurbani Paath together. And especially to do Abhyaas (recitation with love) of Siri Sukhmani Sahib along with Naam Abhyaas is extremely beneficial. Using the whip or lash of love of the beloved one (whose Naam we chant), Gurbani keeps one alert towards Naam Abhyaas and by praising the greatness of Naam again and again, it increases the love of Naam in the mind of the seeker. This love is the way to get concentration. This love alone is the medicine that takes one’s concentration high. And this love alone is the medicine to kill thoughts or bad thoughts (that keep coming in mind when one tries to concentrate). What else to say, this love alone is the greatest way to do Naam Abhyaas. Some Inspirational Stories or Sayings by Mahapurakhs Baba Sham Singh jee at a very early age of 5 years started living with a Baba Raam Singh jee. His father had died and his mother could not feed him. For this reason she came to Baba Raam Singh jee and urged him to accept Baba Sham Singh jee. Baba Sham Singh had a remarkable inclination towards doing Bhagti, at such early age. He developed so much love for sangat that he refused to go back with his mother. Once when Baba Sham Singh was only 6 or 7 years old, he became a little relaxed in getting up at Amritvela and missed Amritvela for 2 days in a row. At this Baba Raam Singh told one of his sewadaar to take Baba Sham Singh and drop him off to his mother. When Baba Sham Singh heard this, he was horrified. He could not imagine going away from sangat and this way, lose spirituality. He started crying. The sewadar lovingly told him to seek forgiveness from Sant jee. Baba Sham Singh prostrated before Sant jee and earnestly sought forgiveness for not getting up early morning. At this Sant jee forgave him and told him that if a person loses Amritvela, then there is nothing left in that person. He said if he (Baba Sham Singh) was not going to keep Amritvela in his sangat, he (Baba Raam Singh) too will have some burden of the sin incurred with this, since he is responsible for him. After this, Baba Sham Singh jee never lost Amritvela. He lived for 115 more years, after this incident. Another Singh while describing the importance of Amritvela used to say that Siri Guru Kalgidhar jee himself takes attendance of who get up at Amritvela. If a person misses Amritvela, he marks them absent but if a person regularly misses Amritvela, Guru Sahib just strikes off his name from the list. This is a very scary thought. If Guru Sahib was to strike off our name from his list of Gursikhs he monitors, what would happen of us? We would just die. Some Tips for getting up at Amritvela 1) Let’s face it. We are not Brahmgyanis. So we should not try to imitate them either. Brahmgyanis may sleep (in so called sleep too they japp Naam) at midnight and still get up an hour or two hours later. But we are mortal beings. We must sleep early if we want to get up early. 2) One may sleep late and still get up early for 1 day, 2 days, 3 days or even a week but eventually he will be fatigued and sooner or later will lose or miss Amritvela. 3) A normal person needs at least 5-6 hours of sleep. If one wants to get up at 2am, then one must strive to sleep at 8pm. 4) Another thing to note is that if we sleep well at night, there is much more energy to japp Naam at Amritvela and concentration is much deeper. 5) If one is to sleep at 8pm, one must eat dinner by 6pm and then walk a little after eating. If one takes dinner at 9pm and sleep at 10-11, it is much harder to get up at Amritvela. As per experience of many Gursikhs heavy dinner, late at night, is an impediment in getting up early. 6) Do Kirtan Sohila with full concentration and do ardaas before Guru Sahib for Amritvela. 7) Before sleeping, one should try to concentrate on Naam Abhyaas or repeatedly do short Gurbani paaths like Ramkali kee Vaar and Basant kee Vaar. 8) At Amritvela, one should strive to do Ishnaan with cold water. This helps in concentration. Despite all the efforts and tricks, we must realize that Amritvela after all is a gift of Vaheguru. For this reason, the foremost thing to do is to supplicate and beg before Guru Sahib for this gift. If Guru Sahib beholds us with the eye of grace, then Amritvela is done effortlessly. Heartbroken

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Daas is 23 years old and was with in a relationship with a girl from high school since I was 17. A year ago she broke up with me. When I was with my girlfriend mistakes were made. I wasn't much into sikhi at the time and I ended up sleeping with my girlfriend. To be honest I love her very much and have been there for her emotionally or in any other way possible. Last year she broke up with me saying she just doesn't love me anymore (even though we were together for 5 years) and now she has another boyfriend. Problem is I'm still madly in love with her and am very heartbroken. Because we've slept together I morally feel wrong being away from her and feel I'm doing her injustice by not marrying her - but there's nothing I can do because she has someone else now and I'm still stuck all alone and depressed. To get over my heartbreak I took the support of bani, I try and do my nitnem daily, I listen to Salok mahala 9 daily and I read two astpadees of sukhmani sahib ji daily. Even though I listen to bani daily I feel I still am heartbroken and depressed. It's gotten to the point where the doctor has put me on depression pills. Can Sangat ji please consider me as a younger brother and guide me? Can Sangat ji please suggest any specific banis I can read to get out of this situation? I feel very lost depressed and lonely ATM. It's been like this for well over a year now and no matter what I do nothing makes me feel better. I'm sorry if I have offended anyone but really need some guidance in getting over this rough time and getting back into sikhi. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
  8. Vjkk Vjkf Ji, I want to know if sangat know the bania stories ; why the banis were recited (I know but sakhian behind them) I.e. JapJiSahib- I think was a conversation with sidhs also sidh gosaT, so if pyaaree Saadh Sangat has any gyaan on this topic please don't hesitate to 'colour' us in with the gyaan
  9. Starting this thread for those interested in in depth study of Asa di Vaar and making it a part of our very being. If we get enough people interested I will post first Santheya tomorrow.
  10. A brother recently asked me to post this as he is having troubles posting for some reason. 30 years ago I lady who we know was very upset about her husband and his rum. She did beanti to sister of a very famous sant ( I don't remember his name)and she was told to do sukhimani sahib paath for one year and her husband will quite drinking. After about ten months he quit and wife stopped doing paath, shortly after husband started to drink again. Same Sant reminded her about one year of paath. She completed it and her husband took amrit. Recently one of my relatives from India got hooked on herione in punjab, he was checked into addiction centers two times and last March was on drugs for a third time. I mention to his wife to do one year of sukhimani sahib paath. Today we got a surprising phone call that he is now amritihardi sikh. I thought I should pass this on to everything here, this is only my thinking and i could be wrong but it is worth a try. "one year of sukhimani sabih paath will help a loved one beat addictions"
  11. To begin: Why do I post stuff like this: Most are scared not of 'death' but of a 'charge' for which they do 'time' knowing 'law I know with god's will I can always beat the charge; the only alternative is to kill me, which is w.e To start The facts: 1. System exists with our consent. 2. The system is based on a lie. 3. A lie always has some truth in it 4. A lie cannot ever win against the truth 5. A truth is a more efficient and stronger version of a lie (read on this is an edit in ref. to a point about system can't fight itself and a point later on at end of situation section). Preamble: The real rulers and elites are those with IMF, world bank, etc. the ones who control money. Countries using a fiat currency are by definition bankrupt, as their currency is not backed by anything. This is why they freely give away their wares, and have people signing up as wards of a corporation (non-living entity). A corporation does not have to be commercial in nature. Therefore, aiming at the government is not the long target but is the main one to do. With Raaj you can control your financial system. There is not a government conspiracy, any conspiracy is at a much-much higher level. (no conspiracy, bankers know how money works i.e just a signature but just keep it hidden from public, and restrict banks from exhanging promisorry notes for 'dollars' as an example) TL;DR Government doesn't rule, and while taking down alone is an effort; using even peaceful but offensive methods (prosecution, liens, etc.) numbers much higher than most terrorist cells are not required (3-4 per town/district targeting highest people). However, just like insurgencies mass support is required and the more the merrier. The knowledge must be spread, or you turn into high-value easy to take-down targets yourselves. Section 1: The Government: 1. If we analyze the government we see that the shield of ignorance cast over our eyes, is on their eyes as well. I would doubt if cm's knew about the real nature of law, or even the Indian constitution as India being a very connected, and young country has not had time to build a political class that is socially separated from the people the same way as Canada for example. The rural nature of the country could also account for this. (i.e governmental workers are much more known and connected to poplace than other places) (apne are with them). TL;DR they are not smarter than you. 2. The untouchability the higher-ups feel will put them in legal trouble, as they may they do not need to reply to legal notices. 3. They are incompetent. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Principle 4. While they are corrupt and incompetent, they are not knowingly working against themselves. I.e will not purposely promote duffars if they can help it. 5. They are already selfish people, with corrupt interests and 'There is no honor among thieves'. Easy to make them fight against each other. See 6 6. The system, (government) is designed like any corporation, with limited liability in mind. However, you are ALWAYS personally liable for any crimes you commit. See 7 for why this is important. 7. It is the default course of action, to discard a worker who is too expensive in up-keep (i.e scandals, too much cases against, liens, etc.) 8. Previous cases etc. have not worked because the system is designed to handle small amounts of dis-content. 9. Channels to vent dis-content and dis-arm it exist in all places no exceptions (all countries). (I.e regulatory bodies, de facto statutory courts, etc.) 10. These are only to mis-lead, and mis-direct people in order to dissuade them from acknowledging and realizing their own range (i.e can target top to bottom, anyone, anytime, everywhere). (Shastar Vidhiya: Understand Range) 11. System is designed to function regardless of leader-ship changes, and power is spread throughout to mitigate disaster’s such Indira/Rajiv killings. Strategy: An armed populace (both knowledge, and physical) who is able to overwhelm the walls of the system is the best course of action. This group must be ever open, and expanding in order to prevent a complete clamp/stamp down of it. A traditional structure of intelligent leaders, and dumbed down recruits will not work as each must be able to to conquer alone. (sava lakh seh ek). Cannot discount value of moral victories, and structures must be in place in order to train new people who join as it is much harder to teach a person gyan than it is to load rockets, and bullets. The system has worked by being rigid and un-moving, a principle that has earned it respect and fear in the eyes of people; it is not designed to be able to counter a threat which is directly a more refined version of itself i.e using focused over-whelming force, to destroy leaders while sparing followers who are not immediate threat. They themselves after slowly having their turtle break away, will submit and come to you giving you rule. At thatpoint, it is up to the Sikh to make correct decision based on gurmat. An example of this is, Baba Baghel Singh and Delhi. Situation: The MO of government has changed from being overwhelmingly based on violence, as it runs contrary to the myths and assumptions this society is based on. Also, a west vs. easy dichotomy is there with India acting alone but wanting/needing to stay on west's side and vice-versa. They play off each other, India acting a bit nicer, west a bit meaner to give a world-wide view of 'democracy'. I hope my points have come across, I'm tired and I understand what my next correct actions have to be (hopefully). Past that, I hope you understand you have to start in your own neighborhood, in order to gain skills, experience, and people. Realize everything is connected, and that an ounce of freedom in Canada is worth a pound elsewhere. --- The system is the same everywhere, same structure same EVERYTHING. Everything, is connected so breaking it here, breaks it elsewhere. However, we don't have to free the world to free the Khalsa (or The Punjab) as we are people of unlimited liability free in their actions and therefore able to have focus, and vision. The system, is more like a hammer able only to strike out at random, and the actions people within that structure are able to take are limited by: 1. their own morals vs. situation 2. their posts 3. public support, etc. We don't need the support of the public, or any of that as Truth always wins vs. lies. -- When I said before that system is not designed to win against a better version of itself, I meant that a lie always has some truth in it, but can never stand up to the whole thing. VJKVJF Can't find original white paper anymore read it a few months ago: http://apdforum.com/en_GB/article/rmiap/articles/online/features/2012/04/05/india-terror-strategy edit - this may be http://journals.hil.unb.ca/index.php/jcs/article/view/4293/4888 what I read not sure now, but yea just google counter-insurgency doctrine to see how they will deal with this stuff. Paper details here: kept at bottom to improve readability of my own points: which uses a four point strategy for counter-insurgency: 1. Suspend demo gov. start president rule Reason: Respect/Fear from stable centre rule, as well as the obvious things (deploy force, etc.) because of internal processes see 11. 2. Flood area with security forces Reason: Forces severely under-budgeted, under-equipped, and under-trained. Do nothing more than resort to thuggery, and eventually something happens. Also, fun-times for commanders and show of force to rest of public for respect/fear in order to win support for continued budget increases. Third point, to limit AO of insurgents see point 3 3. Target Militant Leaders but spare followers Reason: Causes dis-array, and lowers morale as often the most knowledgeable ones are the leaders, and due to point 2 as well as infrastructure of country avg. people are not at full potential. (true with any army, including lok sabha) 4. Force elections, return to 'normalcy' Reason: Show of power, that I can do this and that. To exhaust people mentally, not full analysis. It's their own bs pretty much, can look at it in many ways: army, and police want new kind of females to do mass rapes of, they want 'democracy', keep out of eye of western public, w.e w.e They act without reason, they are still human, and due to being sheltered and focused on tyranny the saying that criminals have low iq applies. What is definition of insurgency: Let us define it as actions taken to change and/or topple the current infrastructure and government. Therefore, a peaceful action such as prosecuting police officers with a certain mind-state is in fact insurgency. edit- Spelling edit2- Dam, word messed up my formatting fixed now hopefully but not orig way I meant it to read. :C
  12. Umm can anyone explain what is going on in this video. Regarding jhatka and Hindu style aarti.
  13. Many Hindus argue that because Guru Gobind Singh Ji wrote choubis avtar he must have worshipped Hindu gods such as Ram etc. How do we disapprove this claim? Especially with proof from Choubis avtar? I did an article on Guru Sahib and Ram Chandar but a brother on this forum pointed out I have inferiro sources. *inferior.
  14. As sad and tragic as the Wisconsin shooting was , we should not let this opportunity go without ushering a grassroot change in the community at large and the youth in particular. This is a wake up call - todays sikhs are neither saints nor soldiers. We have zero interest in studying SGGS or shastar (contemporary like guns as well as traditional like kirpans and siri sahib). My suggestions are (feel free to critique / add/modify) - To revive our martial spirit - We should strive to join army reserves / fulltime service or law enforcement for a couple of years - to become very good with contemporary weapons as well as other aspects of urban combat such as strategy. Join a martial arts school to become proficient with unarmed combat , afterall our body is also a weapon. Get a firearms license and practise in a shooting range to improve marksmanship To educate people about sikhi - Invite gora , kalas, china, hispanic colleagues / friends to gurughar - arrange a service in english and then serve them with langar - the point to get across is we would have served Michael Page with same love without evangelizing. Arrange a lecture about "what is sikhi" at your school / workplace. To better understand our faith ourselves - Start studying SGGS from page 1 to understand gurus' true philosophy Listen to gurbani keertan as much as possible This is by no means a comprehensive list - other members please chip in with your suggestions.
